I'm guessing saline is not currently working as it will eventually. If I had to guess, I think it's just the "blood bag" item from the mod with new name and graphic. Right now it does definitely restore blood to full.

Sick and tired of joining a server and losing my character
ZedsDeadBaby replied to apme123's topic in General Discussion
Why is it whenever anyone says this, they then immediately say something that directly contradicts it? -
What are your thoughts on people against KO punching?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Good idea; also (maybe this has already been mentioned) but helmets should provide enormous protection against knock-out punches. It's would be really damn hard to knock someone out with punches if they're wearing a motorcycle helmet. Now, a shovel would still be pretty effective but that's a different topic. -
Is the amount of PvP due to the difficulty of PvE
ZedsDeadBaby replied to adwilk1231's topic in General Discussion
Psst, that's the idea. They're supposed to be. Dean has said from the early days of the mod that he wants players to be the biggest threat in the game. The current sheer volume of PvP probably has a lot to do with the lack of other interesting activities to engage in at the moment, but don't expect any of the game's mechanics to become larger threats than other players. Humans will always be your prime enemy in DayZ. -
I very genuinely doubt that's the issue. I'm not a big fan of comparing digital dicksize, but if you want to call me out on "life experience" I can share that I've been a software developer, designer and project manager for 15 years and have been a litigant in more than one digital rights lawsuits in that time. I'm going to go out on a very short limb and say that my experience in this regard outstrips yours by a smidgen or two, but feel free to correct me here. Also, perhaps instead of immediately retreating into ad hominem bullshit and personal attacks, you want to take a stab at actually addressing any of the points I made in my post? Start, maybe, by addressing my questions regarding your claim that there is "nothing inherently wrong with copying." Just want to be clear that you completely condone plagiarism, see no moral wrong in taking someone's software and pretending it as your own, or in downloading a digital painting someone did and claiming that it is your work? Completely okay for someone to take a draft of a novel from someone's hard drive and submit it to a publishing company under their own name? All of these things are "letter of the law" issues in your mind, and not really "morally" wrong? Is that your claim? Or is it perhaps that you've basically argued yourself into a corner with a bunch of verbal flailing and meaningless semantic asshattery, and now that I called you out on it you're falling back on a bunch of weak-ass "I'm smarter than you, sonny" bullshit?

Putting a hit on bandits / kill on sighters
ZedsDeadBaby replied to gunslinger_ka's topic in Suggestions
How about no. -
I know what it's supposed to mean, but it makes absolutely no sense in this context. I am not arguing the letter of the law. I am arguing that someone's creation being their own is a moral issue. If I write a poem, paint a picture or create some other work of art (like, say, a video game), it is absolutely my moral right to own that work, choose how it is displayed or distributed, and protect it against theft or corruption. If you say so. "People own the things they create" has pretty much been the law of the land since the 1600's, and it hasn't really been a matter for much debate. It's mostly taken as an irrefutable truth, because it makes sense and protects the rights of people who create things as part of their livelihood. I think you'll find you're full of shit. End user's don't own the contents of books they purchase, digital or not. You can't just buy a book, change a few words around, slap a new cover on it and claim it as your own. You own your personal copy of the book, just like you own your personal copy of the DayZ software, but you do not own the contents therein and you have no right to modify and redistribute that content. Seriously what the ever living fuck are you talking about? There's nothing wrong with copying in any form? So plagiarism is totally okay? Someone just randomly decided that was a bad thing one day? There would be no wrongdoing involved if a publisher declined to accept someone's novel and instead turned around and copied it and claimed it as their own? That would be fine? Any employee gets fired form a software company and takes a thumb drive full of that company's software with him when he leaves, only to turn around and release it as his own? That's okay, too? Each subsequent paragraph makes less sense than the one before it. Seriously, are you a fucking mental patient? What the hell is that even supposed to mean?

With respect, that really doesn't make any sense. Loot already exists all over the map. By making it spawn less frequently, these suggestions would actually reduce the point-in-time load on the server and decrease, rather than increase lag. Lag is primarily caused by two things: a. the server being really busy with heavy processing (everyone lags) or b. your personal network bandwidth being over-taxed, making it difficult to stay in synch with the server (just you lag). Once loot is spawned, the server doesn't have a lot of processing to do. Most of the work would come from checking each spawn location to see if loot needs to appear. The network bubble implementation also ensures that loot which is far away from you doesn't have any direct impact on your personal network bandwidth. If you're in Chernogorsk, your client doens't know anything about the loot in Berezino. Further, if you truly believe the game is incapable of supporting things like this without becoming "extremely laggy" then what do you expect will happen once other features are added like vehicles, player-built structures, animals, traps, etc. not to mention hundreds of additional zombies? I get the sense that you're basically just trying to be contrary because we had it out in that other thread about PvP but, trust me, you're barking up the wrong tree here.

dayz surpassed in population
ZedsDeadBaby replied to jjkjwo6@yahoo.com's topic in General Discussion
I know we're, like, not supposed to flame and stuff. But in this case I think even the mods have to agree you're a fucking idiot. -
Actually really, really great until the hackers showed up. Some of the most fun I've ever had gaming. Many of my friends feel the same way. For how few features the mod had, it was incredible. Largely because of the intensity of emotion and uncertainty created by the ever-presence of murderers looking to kill me. I never felt safe. It was absolutely amazing. If it had just been fighting those stupid, buggy, zig-zagging, wall-hacking zombies all day? I would have probably quit a couple days after I started playing with a great big "meh." Why do you ask?
-
The reason you will be attacked is because, once again, that is a completely disingenuous comparison. People who want to PvP, even "KoS," have never once, ever asked for servers which prevent others from doing what they want to do. It has never happened. The only people asking for the ability to restrict other players' freedom and actions are those who want PvE servers. PvPers want what DayZ was designed to be - a game that combines PvE and PvP aspects into a single game.
-
Haha, slaughter. I love it. They're all so desperate for the free loot.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/158966-dayz-standalone-server-hosting-rules-server-reporting/ Your server must NOT have a NO KILL policy
-
Do I have to find a quote? You've spent the entire thread supporting the existence of PvE servers which, by definition, would prevent harm to other players.
-
It was absolutely Dean's intention to create a game in which doing exactly that is one possible way of playing, and then see if that's what people wanted to do. Clearly, some people do want to do it occasionally. Also, so what if it's for "shits and giggles?" Isn't that why anyone does anything in a video game? Why do you do what you do? To advance the search for a cancer cure? To feed hungry children in third world countries? It's ALL for shits and giggles, mate. You just get yours a different way. That doesn't make you a better person.
-
That's beautiful, dude. You are truly doing Dean's work.
-
If that's what you want to believe, okay. I think we will have to agree to disagree and see how the game matures.

What do you think of fresh spawns being able to punch?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Chungmugong's topic in General Discussion
Boxing matches use gloves that absorb a huge amount of the energy of a punch. Back before gloves, they often did end in round one and occasionally with the convulsing death of the loser. As for MMA, there are an awful lot of first round knock-outs. Most blows are avoided or blocked partially, but if people do connect fully with a swing it pretty much does bring it to an end. -
What do you think of fresh spawns being able to punch?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Chungmugong's topic in General Discussion
The answer is not to remove punching, but to enhance the feature and melee in general. Helmets should provide extreme protection against fists. Blocking, tackling and grappling should be possible. You should be able to quickly pull a knife to stab/slash at someone who is punching you. etc., etc. But taking away their ability to punch? Sorry, that's a non-starter. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, and it's removing a feature that the developers worked hard to implement just because you don't like gettin' punched. -
Thanks mate. But that doesn't really say anything about what kind of mods they intend to support. Again, the fact that they expressly forbid PvE servers in the hosting rules kind of implies that PvE servers are not part of their plan for supported mods.

If you would like to see the developers make it so server restarts do not give free loot, please go beans & comment on my Suggestion thread: Loot: Mysterious and Unpredictable. I would appreciate the feedback. Top suggestion is to make loot spawn well after a server restart. Servers should restart empty so admins cannot abuse restarts to farm loot.

No, they didn't; that is absolutely not how software works and I'm sure you know that full well. They exchanged money for the right to use the software according to terms and conditions. They have no right to the source used to create the software, nor do they attain the right to modify the software as they see fit. Yes, it's totally a joke man. There's absolutely no moral component at all in the concept of someone owning the things they create or having the ability to decide how they're viewed, used or distributed. It's all about "EGO." What? But... that wasn't their vision of the game. Obviously. What kind of analogy is that? All of those developers specifically supported modding of the software, so it obviously wasn't against their vision. What are you trying to argue here? Uhh, how exactly do you NOT follow a director's vision for a movie? Close your eyes and plug your ears during the movie? Seriously, what are you even talking about? You watch the movie they made. That's it. You don't get to run up into the projection booth and go "No! I hated that last scene. Let me make some edits and re-run it; I think everyone will agree my version is better!"

I genuinely hope not.

It's a common issue apparently to do with a server's ability to remain connected to the hive. Also, some servers have not yet been "white-listed" and so they will not have permission to access the hive yet and will not store your progress (or be able to retrieve your data from the hive, so logging in to these servers will effectively "wipe" your character). rocket discusses the issue here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/155698-serious-database-issue-bug/ Here's the tracker issue: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=78 You should go there, vote it up and add comments about your own experiences to increase visibility on this relatively critical issue. In the meantime, I suggest you use the "Favorites" function to flag servers which reliably store your progress, then only play there. Also, DON'T POST THREAD TITLES IN ALL CAPITALS WITH MULTIPLE EXCLAMATION POINTS IT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A PETULANT DOUCHENOZZLE.

Where PvE is also allowed, so that's a ridiculously specious analogy. There are no "PvP only" servers, which is what PvE servers really are. Get it straight. There are no PvE servers. There are no PvP servers. There are just servers. Oh, so now you get to tell me what to do on the forums too? Is this a "PvE forum" now? Get bent dude.
