It really doesn't, though. In reality, you can recognize other humans when you look at them. No amount of increased character creation options will ever compensate for this. It would require a facial customization system the likes of which the game industry has never seen before to achieve the kind of facial feature variety that would be necessary to achieve anything even remotely akin to actual human facial recognition. Lack of HUD is nice, I agree, but it has to be balanced. Games are limited to two senses and HUDs can make up for the lack of the others by providing quick information that would come from our emotions or bodily sense organs. The silly "I'm kinda hungry" messages are what you get when you try to stick a "no HUD" policy even when a HUD is the best available solution to a problem. I think rocket realized this, which is why we now have a HUD back for hunger and thirst (even though it's on your inventory screen). To OP:Please take the time to read and carefully consider my suggestion for a player identification and classification system. It is a proposal to allow you to "Remember" faces you have seen, and to do so in a way that's authentic and "realistic."

Player Identification and Classification System
ZedsDeadBaby replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in Suggestions
Weekly bump. -
I do like the idea of being able to build a "list" of players, bandits or otherwise. However (and these are big howevers): You must survive in order to keep your list going. If you die, you "forget" your list. This gives an incentive to survive as long as possible. You absolutely, positive should not be able to see who kills you.You should never be able to see any information about players on a server before you join it. This is tantamount to giving you godlike powers, observing the world before you exist. Very inauthentic. Please take the time to read and carefully consider my suggestion for a player identification and classification system. What this system would allow you to do is "Remember" other players once you visually identify them by getting close enough, or viewing them through an optic like binoculars or a scope. You could categorize players into categories like "hostile," or "friendly," and even give them colors.
-
This is not now, nor has it ever been the case. Everyone always made this claim during the mod days, and then finally one day rocket came in and set the record straight by crunching the numbers and showing that bandits die way more often than the average player, have shorter life spans, etc. It makes sense, when you're constantly putting yourself in harm's way, eventually you're going to take a bullet. Sneaking around quietly collecting food and water is a far safer and more reliable way to stay alive than constantly shooting at people. I'm sorry you're annoyed at getting killed and that it "totally sucks," and stuff. Best advice if you don't want to be killed is to not be seen.

Because when you're running with six friends and you turn around and see seven people, it can be a matter of life and death to quickly identify the odd man out. And, by "quickly," I mean in less than a second you better know who's who. Playing dress-up is nice, but everyone looking different is a tactical headache in the heat of battle. Yes, voice communications help, but they're not always effective. There's a reason real military units wear uniforms, have patches and use equipment like IR Strobes to identify friendly units. Avoiding friendly fire is pretty much the most important task in a combat scenario.
-
I think patches would be a great addition - for backpacks, helmets, pant legs, even the sides of vehicles. Not only would this allow for quick identification of squad mates, but it would allow other squads to quickly identify their rivals or enemies. Some of the best times I had during the mod days was when my squad set up on another clan's server, and kicked off a months-long rivalry. Our clans vied for control of the map, stole each other's vehicles, found each other's tents, engaged in firefights, etc. We even had various truces and ceasefires, which almost always ended when someone got a little trigger happy after a beer or three. People have mentioned squad.xml which let people do this in ARMA. I think it's a good idea to use this functionality to allow people to design their own patches, but I do think that some kind of effort should have to be done in game in order to secure them. You shouldn't just get them for "free," right? Also a really big fan of the "Tank Destroyer" patch. My grandfather was in the 773rd Tank Destroyer Battalion during WWII, and this was his patch. He had it hanging on the wall in his basement, and it makes me proud to see it. I would love to have it on the side of my jeep in DayZ:

Like a giant load of bullshit. -
It's funny, isn't it? I must read 500 threads a week about people who "refuse to KoS" but insist that "that's all anyone else does." You would think, eventually, these guys would start bumping into each other in the game.
-
I'll tell you what. Post a Youtube video of you eating an entire can of beans without a spoon and without puking. Then we can compare to the time in game and see how realistic it is. Deal?
-
Check out this thread and feel free to add comments: Squad Identification. I'll link to your thread from mine.

You are absolutely not required to KoS, ever. No, it's not. It is not a simulator. Where did everyone get this idea? Nobody on the team has ever called the game a "post-apocalyptic survival simulator." I guess that's just what everyone wants the game to be, so they go around saying it all the time hoping that it will eventually just come true? Dean has said he does not see the game as a simulation. He has also said that the presence of sadistic killers is a key aspect of the game, and improves the experience. Yes, you're right. It's not CoD, but it's also not the game you seem to think it is. The game as described by Dean is a social experiment - put players into a world with some zombies, some harsh survival mechanics, a giant open world and no rules and see what they do without a bunch of rules, regulations and punishments for "bad behavior." For you, what you do is try to play the game like a survival simulator and survive a really long time, great! For others, what they do is try to put bullets into other players as often as possible. Also great! Your way is not better, or "more realistic," or "true to the vision of the game," or all of these other things people keep saying. It's just how you choose to play. Guess what? If everyone played it like that, especially now when there are almost zero features implemented, the game would be a fucking boring-ass snooze. Seriously, what would you do? There are barely any zombies to survive yet. So even if you think that one day KoS will be a problem, acting like it needs to be addressed now, when there's basically nothing else to do, is doubly silly. There are already enormous benefits to cooperative play, and more to come. Just having a second pair of eyes to watch your back is more than worth the effort to find friends to play with.
-
Realistically, this isn't a real zombie apocalypse, nor is the goal of the game to accurately recreate one. It's not a simulation game. KoS is balanced, by all the people just like you who don't do it. Look around on the forums, reddit and Youtube. There are many, many playesr who do many, many things besides KoS. It's already fairly well balanced, and it will get even moreso as additional features are added to the game. This "doomsday" prophecy "KoS is everywhere" bullshit is the same bunk we heard in the mod days, and any time anyone tried to say that's all anyone ever did, the team would politely come in and point out that, statistically speaking, something like 15-18% of deaths were due to PvP murder (not all of even those being KoS, doubtless). It was fucking awful, and stupid. And it didn't fix the problem at all. Murder rate actually rose like 2% after skins were added. "You were naughty, wear 'dis hat bad man!" No. If you want to tell people how to play the game, maybe DayZ isn't your game. Which is exactly what is happening in the game right now. I have found it an almost universal truth that anyone who claims they know what the "point of the game as it was originally envisioned" is actually mean "the point of the game as I personally believe it should be." Chernarus doesn't revolve around you, mate. Sorry for the news.
-
We'll give you a call when anyone gives a flying dead rat about your opinion. Right. Except this conversation has been going on since the week the mod launched. So it has nothing to do with the game's popularity. So two things that haven't happened and one thing that has always been in the game are signs of the game taking the wrong direction? That's what you're going with?

The reason why i kill on sight now !!
ZedsDeadBaby replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
Killed twice? Like, two times? Two more than one? Four more than one half? My dear, sweet ever-loving God in heaven how are you even still here? I would be in the shower scalding my skin with super hot water, crying and rocking gently back and forth while singing Amazing Grace. You are a truly brave soul to even still be here talking with us after what you've been through. Truly, no man in history has suffered as you have. I think we can all agree you did everything you could to be a "good guy" by literally trying two times to do something. You know the old saying; "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. But if you fail a second time, give up like a pissy little bitch and start shooting strangers in the face." -
If i buy the alpha for standalone will i have to pay again for PS4?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to dreaderus's topic in General Discussion
Sure. In the same sense, I would CONSIDER having sex with Scarlett Johansson if she would agree. I don't want to crush any dreams, but I think there's about a 0.01% chance we will ever see DayZ on another platform. -
16 posts and this is where you're at? Welcome to the forums; I'm sure you're going to be a top notch contributor. I look forward to sharing your wisdom.
-
And what's stopping you from doing that right now? If your claim is that murder stands in the way of your ability to enjoy the game to it's fullest extent, and you want ideas from the "community," to deal with that, then I think yes you're basically trying to dictate how people play. If getting murdered interferes with your ability to enjoy the game, then I suggest you RP someone who avoids being murdered. It's not that hard, really. Just pretend you're human and you don't want to die.
-
You could start by realizing that the two are not mutually exclusive. I can RP and still shoot people (yes, even on sight). You could also realize that your idea of the game's "full potential" might not match up with everyone else's, and that's okay. Lastly, try not to pretend that your section of the "community" is better than someone else's because of the way you choose to play the game.

Dude he was literally just asking a fucking question. He wasn't rude at all. What the fuck is this shit? Jesus Christ.

The future of DayZ, it's a simple question after all...
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Hikurac's topic in General Discussion
I'm really getting sick and fucking tired of these ridiculous "polls" where the answers are so obviously weighted in favor of the results that the OP wants to hear. Like, hey, here's a poll guys, what do you think? Let me know! a. I agree with you because I'm an awesome, brilliant and sexy human being who has a huge brain, an above-average dong and strikingly handsome facial features. b. I disagree with you because I'm a pathetic loser with a penis shaped like a badminton shuttlecock that's been through too many high school gym classes and my breath smells like I just ate dogshit. Go ahead and answer impartially! I'm REALLY interested in your opinions on this terribly pressing matter. -
Abusing M4 and Mosin bullet duplication glitch?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
If you find a bug, report it and move on. Worrying about who is exploiting what at this point, or trying to pressure the developers on their priorities, is just silly. I think it's really safe to assume they're not going to allow item duplication bugs to persist through Beta into release, so just put in your bug reports and keep playing. -
If that's really how survivors played, they would never have any reason whatsoever to complain about "PvP'ers" and, well, look around.

Is the amount of PvP due to the difficulty of PvE
ZedsDeadBaby replied to adwilk1231's topic in General Discussion
Zombies accounted for something like 75% of player deaths in the mod, even factoring out suicides shortly after spawning. So, I disagree. Make ammo a little less common, get 1,000+ zombies on the server, improve their ability to navigate a little and you've got a bit of a headache on your hands for sure. -
I have an idea for helping with the KOS problem. Rocket should read.

What in the living holy Hell does the country they're from have to do with it? What an odd thing to say. People just have different tastes and spend their time in different ways. I don't see how their country of origin is at all relevant. It's not racist, exactly, but certainly does come across as a bit xenophobic. What the what? Why would anyone do that? I'm so confused.
