Incentives to Cooperative Play
ZedsDeadBaby replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Okay' date=' well, then I don't know what to say or what you expect. People don't tend to cooperate with strangers in REAL LIFE I don't know why you would ever think they would do so in DayZ when the world has gone to complete and utter shit. The entire reason the word "stranger" exists is to set them apart from people with whom you have established a trust. It's up to you to figure out how to bridge that gap and establish that initial trust so that you can access all the benefits I listed above. If you're not willing to take that step and figure out that problem, then I do politely suggest you play a game which has built-in forced mechanics to tell you who to trust like "Oh, people with red names are nasty and people with green names are friendly" but that game is not DayZ nor should it ever be. Read what rocket has said - it's these social problems and dilemmas, and watching people try to solve them, that lie at the heart of the DayZ experience. It perfectly mirrors the zed fiction upon which the game draws influence - just look at [i']The Walking Dead. People who knew each other prior to the zeds, even partners, friends and family find their trust in each other put to the test when the world falls apart. Personally, I think it's incredibly accurate. If anything like DayZ ever happened, how many people would YOU trust "on sight?" I can list maybe 8 - son, daughter, wife, father, mother, 2 brothers and 1 true friend. The rest of them, even most members of my non-immediate family? Stay away from my beans or else. -
Has there been any word on there being more to do?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're a lazy jackass and have no business playing this game. I have literally stumbled RANDOMLY on no less than 6 vehicles since the reintroduction. Let me guess, you Googled "DayZ vehicle locations" and when that didn't work you gave up? Go play Left 4 Dead you will be happier. You can't even get lost. They tell you where to go and everything. -
Basically done with this game for now. Sadly, it's just a slow paced deathmatch.

Says the server admin who defends his use of the word "faggot" as no big deal and totally funny. Ooo, I have an idea. Go fuck yourself. -

What. Ev. Er. This is such ridiculous hokey nonsense. When bandit skins were still enabled, I died 10x as often to survivors in basic gear with a makarov than I ever did to anyone wearing the skin - and some of the nicest people I met up with and ran with for days on end who helped me learn the game and the map and geared me up were all bandits to a man. I had the bandit skin myself 3 times - twice because people shot at me and missed, and once because I caught someone trying to steal my car. The bandit skin was a forced, lazy, broken-ass mechanic that never accomplished anything and you are delusional if you think its removal somehow changed the game overnight. Straight delusional. -

Everyone says this as if a bullet in your head due to necessity somehow kills you in a different way than a bullet in your head due to boredom. You're dead either way, why in the name of all that is good do you care one iota why the person shot you? It makes not one lick of difference. Dead is dead, now get up and try again. The incredible irony of this is that rocket has suggested that if you are not happy with PvP that there are already zombie themed mods available for ARMA that do not emphasize PvP. So YOU are the one for whom "other game is suggested" I'm afraid. -

Okay. Exactly what do you think a "forced system" is? How does forcing insanity upon me for choosing particular actions not qualify as such? -
AKM obviously? Longer range, higher power and zeroing. Only benefit to the Kobra is the sight and noise level, neither of which make much difference in PvP.

Holy shit, seriously? Someone should tell the FBI. That could be, like, really useful. I mean, seriously, dude? Are you really serious with this? -
I read it, I understood it and then I replied intelligently to it. I get that I was subtle, so I'll be a bit more blunt: the story you linked is about how authors treat their readers. It's a false analogy. rocket is not penning a story, he is giving us blank paper and pencils with which to write our own. If the stories YOU create end up "shooting the shaggy dog," that's your own fault and nobody else's. You are the one writing the story - if it ends up being boring, you can't blame rocket. Your entire argument boils down to "I choose to do boring things, so the game is boring for me." Well, congratulations. You proved grass is green. Score one for you. I've never had a boring survivor. Every one has been unique and done unique things. I don't go to "one of maybe 3 places" because I don't make the game about getting more loot so those 3 places - I assume you're referring to the airfields and military camps - are no more important to me than any other place my survivor might end up. More mechanics are coming, and they HAVE been discussed despite your claim to the contrary, but if you truly believe there is "nothing to do" in the game as it stands, then no amount of additional mechanics will make this game interesting to you. It is ALWAYS going to rely on your personal ability to take those mechanics and craft them into an interesting narrative for your character and you just seem incapable of doing that on ANY level, mechanics or no. If you want spoon-fed objectives like quests in WoW, then just go play one of the countless games that already have them.

That dilutes the population. The "big cities" are supposed to be more important. They are supposed to attract more players and be the sight of more encounters and more action. This creates a balanced dynanic between low risk/low reward towns and high risk/high reward large cities. -

I provided exactly as much support for my claim as you did for yours, Francis. One good turn deserves another, no? If this game has devolved into CoD, why was my last survivor alive for 12 straight days and 50+ hours in game? When was the last time that happened in CoD, I ask? If the game has devolved for you, it's only because you let it. If you want something else out of the game, go get it or quit bitching. -
If you want to use your imagination, be creative and craft your own narrative in a brutally harsh, cruel and bleak world then play DayZ. If you want mommy to read you a bedtime story because you can't think of your own, there are plenty of games out there just for you.

Character Identification
ZedsDeadBaby replied to chaostactical's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"Cosmetic shit"? What kind of retarded... Seriously, being able to identify targets by sight is "cosmetic shit" now? Not, you know, the entire reason things like flags and uniforms ever came into existence in the first place? Differentiating friend from foe is key to strategic success on the battlefield. Armbands, facepaint, uniforms, particular hair styles, tattoos... whatever it takes. Knowing who to shoot and who not to shoot goes a little deeper than cosmetics I should think. -
Could this be a sign that rocket is on to something with this "experiment?" I played WoW for years and never had a dream about it. DayZ... I think I've had 3 separate nightmares including one last night in which I had to protect my son from walkers in our front yard... crouch-walking with an AK and one arm on his shoulder to keep him behind me. Intense stuff.

No' date=' you clearly don't. You don't even [i']understand the concept, so how can you claim to like it? How often do you die, and why? My last survivor was alive 12 days, probably 50+ hours in game. Why is this the first thing out of everyone's mouth when they are obviously not fine with it? And it is the very presence of that "horrible" experience that makes everything else in the game seem so much more intense, more real, more gratifying. If it weren't for the psychopathic killers waiting around every dark corner in this game, what would your accomplishments be? Picking up beans and ammo and shooting cows? Okay... Last night I lost my 12-day-old survivor. Ghillie suit, M16A2+203 w/ mags, 5 fully loaded tents, a completely repaired vehicle full of spare parts and ammunition, etc. I was stunned. My heart was beating, my brow was sweating. I stared at the "You Are Dead" screen for 10 minutes. Then, I sucked it up and got right back to it knowing that the next survivor could live twice that long and achieve twice as much if I am careful and don't make the same mistake I did last night. Okay, it's Alpha. We all know that. So basically you were trying to avoid PvP by playing on an underpopulated server and got shot anyway? That's pretty awesome in my opinion. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Just like it should be. Whose fault is that? I've repaired vehicles single handled without a single person helping by venturing out, finding the parts necessary, and running all the way back to the broken vehicle because my inventory only had space for one item at a time. It literally took me 12 hours to repair a single vehicle in game on my own. Then I lost it 30 minutes later. And I didn't care. Vehicles are everywhere now. If you have never seen one, then you are simply not looking very carefully - or you never survive long enough to find one. Either way you are at fault, not the game. What makes a place "worth going to"? Maybe this retarded mentality is the reason you've never found a vehicle, hmm? Try exploring some of those places you think are not "worth it" and you might find out that, in fact, they are. "Sweeping changes" is kind of the definition of the Alpha-Beta transition period. Why is it everyone who claims to know what an Alpha is, doesn't have a clue? Go play Left 4 Dead then. Most of us are here precisely because it's "just too harsh." I have a fully time job and a family and I have had more fun with this game than any other in the past 2 decades. Fuck no. Except it's not. No, it hasn't. Not the people in my group. Great. DayZ is not for "most people." Most people like Farmville and pro wrestling. Most people can go fuck themselves for all I care. -

I've had two tents up for 7+ days with a vehicle that I park next to them' date=' and none have been touched on a populated server. Two things to consider: [list'] [*] How obvious is this hiding spot? If you think "Oh, that's a great spot!" then, it isn't... [*] Lanes of traffic. Just because something is in the wilderness doesn't make it safe. If it's on a north/south or east/west line between two towns, it's going to be found by someone traveling between them. The corridor between Cherno and the NW airfield might as well be an interstate highway.

I also lack a quote, but I'm 100% sure he has said he is fine with inverse time or off-time servers; the only thing he will NOT tolerate is "always day" or "always night" servers. NYC 8 is inverse time, but they are having a shit ton of problems with the server - hopefully they clear it up as otherwise it seems like a good place to play.

False. Incentives to Cooperative Play He also immediately pointed out that you should not mistake the word "consequence" for "punishment" and that those desiring the life of the bandit would find those consequences to be good things, not bad. So, yes, please tell us more about what rocket said. -
Umm, yeah. That's totally not how it works. I've seen the same vehicles in the exact same spots on multiple servers. They definitely have set spawn locations. Hell, the yellow hatchback by Lopatino has been on pretty much every server I've played on in the last week - I just don't have the engine to fix it.
