  1. Excerpt from Rocket's Q&A interview: ...the subterranean world. Not like, dig your own 3sq feet base with a spade. More like Clearing out the subterranean world. Well yes, as you may have deduced I'm bringing this to the table to be discussed by the community. As you ponder your reaction, note that 1st: Whilst many of us may agree in that Red Faction physics are kind of cool when it comes to buildings, Rocket's words sound rather like well, read the italics; 2nd: From his very words one catches up it's no little basement what this guy is talking about. All of my what. [All of the quotes' italics and boldings added by me] This thread is aimed towards providing input on this issue to the dev. team

Dayz koS would be rife irl if there was an apocalypse

Do I really have to point out that survivors went on rioting. I mean, do I really. Guy asked for a historic example on how people behave when there's no law. ''People'' as an sufficiently representative amount of people, like, evidently. There would be no civilization whatsoever if this reaction was absolute. All of this is obvious enough, but yeah thanks for pointing that out  None of you have heard about the Rape of Nanking right. http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/nanking.htm

Dayz koS would be rife irl if there was an apocalypse

Oh well, I'd sure come back touched in the head if I'd been sent over to a country and carnaged on its population on the pretext of putting down a bunch of shepherds. Thing is, there're more than a hundred thousand Iraqi civilians who're not getting any symptoms of PTSD, depression, or about anything at all any more. What the US does through its foreign military actions is probably the most accurate antithesis you could give to DayZ. When you KoS in DayZ, you can still you do it for a reason, that'd be environmental scarcity. Far cry, I know, but still a better excuse to put down a PJ. http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/international/countriesandterritories/haiti/index.html This a couple months ago. You really thought these kinds of situation were rare? You clearly don't live in Central/South America, or Africa do you. I mean, not by ten thousand miles.
  4. You know you wouldn't right. Well maybe you would, but try not to speak of everyone else.

Dayz koS would be rife irl if there was an apocalypse

I entirely agree with you. I've stated in some of my previous posts that PvP can't turn into a f$ckfest just because, so no argument over that. We all want to roleplay. However, this is a post-apocalyptic simulating zombie sandbox. We can't have people dropping BS all over these forums because they're getting killed and you know, that doesn't coincide with their concept of morals. You see what I just got in other thread. For F#cks sake. EDIT And this is what I'm talking about: Now what the heck does this person know about killing other people. Are we just assuming everybody would go nuts / hallucinate over a kill? What has modern society done to us? It's wrong to kill, we all know that, but that one about hallucinating? It's almost as good as Santa Claus, for god's sake.
  6. What? Was it Disney I just heard? 'Cause it sounded an awful lot like Disney. Either that or The mainstream entertainment business, but that'd be way too long. Are you sure it ain't the marvel/pokémon forums you want to be in right now? EDIT Why is this idea so hard to get?

I second you there, let me add a tl;dr for those who can't read through the whole thing: tl;dr: You guys basically have never experience what it is to live in a social pact lacking environment. Not even in some regular 3rd world country where they'll just stone you to death for trying to read a book. I'm trying to make you understand guys, your 1st world bubble morals do not apply, for flint's sake.

Dayz koS would be rife irl if there was an apocalypse

Your inability to relate subjects ain't something I care about, really. I was talking about the way some DayZ players seem to despise KoS actions from their fallacious generalisation of morals. Was it so hard? Please allow me to suggest you to at least try and think before deciding someone's post is off-topic. Saves calories. As further explanation, I'll say I have nothing against those who see KoS as an irritating, bitchy move from the CoD kids. I do respect and share the opinion that its excess affects playability and immersion. I'd be for its punishment, actually, as long as that (stopping the CoD kids) was the premise, but by no means shall I accept a game that punishes every time anyone who KoS, when in the setting of a Zombie apocalypse and civilization breakdown.

Dayz koS would be rife irl if there was an apocalypse

Holy copulation guys. How hard can it get for people to just accept the raw, real life as it comes. It's appalling. You wanna spend your life thinking there's this cosmic justice that's brought upon jerks, and that will reward your good deeds, that's OK for me. I mean it, whatever floats your goat. But pretending that applies, universally no less, in an apocalyptic setting, one that's pretty much about human interaction in its very raw... I don't know, do you really think that's ok, 'cause I'm getting worried.
  10. Yeah, 'cause a zombie apocalypse PvP rewarding you for being a good person fits so well in the genre.

    An ode to an idiot....

The way you just replaced ''Allah'' by ''The Terrorist God'' is indeed very appeasing EDIT: As of the thread itself... sounds as if it would've been much more intense if there'd been a reason for you to do that. Still Lol'd though.

Dayz koS would be rife irl if there was an apocalypse

Pretty much. I mean, absolutely. call /discussion until anyone can bring a counter argumentation to this. EDIT: All have cars = A lot of oil consumed -> no more oil, cars no more. Therefore, we ban cars. BS, you see. It's called balance through diversity, you know, is what makes many things possible with limited resources ;)

'Sup pal, lawyer speaking here ;). Any law that goes against the Human Rights is generally regarded as juridically invalid. True. Now this may sound to you as what you were saying, word by word. Well, there's a big gap: Law is not to be bent by what you, or your group, may understand by morality. It's important, you see, because differences between cultural morals can be wild, all sides having perfectly sane, kind and literate people amongst its ranks. Which is pretty much why I brought in the Human Rights, as that's the only juridical compilation of Right in which most of us coincide. And what am I trying to call with this whole thing? Bullshit, that's what! surprise surprise! So yeah, essentially, what you call morals are just an intellectual, self constructed amalgam of rules you resort to whenever you feel threatened by the environment, all this in order to trigger your ideal of self-righteousness. Come on pal, do you know who put your sneakers and iPhones together? Not to mention your whole, you know, economic system? There's a million iraqi corpses out in the blue, who would like to have a word with all of us in regards of our morals. And that's going back 10 years. Human history, specially the most recent, is by itself a paradigm of the so called spread of high morals, through actions that hide all sorts of abject interests. Do you think the present is anywhere less wild than a Zombie apocalypse? Well, maybe in your neighbourhood isn't! Now go take a walk around the place you get your oil from ;) EDIT: Forgot to add the actual point of the whole thing, lol. You can't justify people KoS in this game. Having tried, you know, I do admit some people are actual jerks. However, the whole field of morals is not just, you know, morals as everyone has these morals. Really, if you were aware of the amount of discussion that has been put into trying to define, to enumerate what human morals are, you'd think twice before bringing that in. As a mere example I'll say the actual Law, international and internal juridical doctrine of Law has long abandoned the idea of trying to link its very existence to anything that even sounds like ''morals.'' Peace.

Why the skin system is fine...for now

Pal do you know why it says ''Quote'', in the quote button? Exactly. For Quotation. Well now that's settled, I'm going to need you getting a bit more in depth on all that ''asking mods to delete a post''...? And putting everything aside, denying others their entertainment. Well I'm not quite sure of how much of an MMO player you're, but the thing is... you don't exactly play a PvP/E MMO without denying other people's entertainment, eventually. It happens when you, you know win over them. Like 50% of the times in a global average. You see, PvP cannot work only in the rewarding way, when you're all geared up with 5 friends and give poo if you get to meet a player and accidentally shoot him. Sometimes you just are the one who gets shot. Those who complain about the curve are usually those who can't get past it ;)
  15. That joke linking your kamikaze action with being under the orders of Allah... hope there aren't many muslims around here. Forecasting shitstorm, just youkno

Considering what's not working on DayZ

More often than not, I see people complaining about endgame, game's objectives, and in general, about the very motivation of the game itself. Leaving aside the common answer, that's, you know, ''surviving bruh'',thing is they have a point. You see, players who're in the luckier/more skilled side of things frequently see themselves in the following situation: All geared up, enough food to serve everyone around and his dog, and can't be bothered to waste ammo in zeds. So now what? I call fair question. I mean, at times this game seems to be all about collecting beans and hiding in a forest like, for the years to come. The thing is, why does this get to happen? 'Cause you know, The PvE and the environment as a whole are nowhere as challenging or thrilling as a zombie apocalypse should be. Think about it: environmentally, there are no really scary encounters, but rather people just running around zeds ignoring them, everywhere, the only thrill being those situations when you're bleeding and have nothing around to patch you up. Zombies just spawn, stand there or patrol around like idiots. Pew pew, dead. C'mon. Now Left 4 Dead has music, weather and light effects, not to mention in-game elements, such as waves, making zombie encounters thrilling even after, you know 10+ hours of gameplay, and a general know-how of the game mechanics. This being a multiplayer shoot'em up. You get inside a house with your pals, suddenly you just know you're gonna be trapped there for the next 15 minutes, fighting the hell for it as a horde of zeds shows up from nowhere and starts surrounding the building and stomping against doors and windows. And I think this is the kind of thing we could bring to Day Z. The thrill. And don't even bring up the fact it's a progressive adventure game, I got it already. Still think many elements could be extrapolated. So, what do you think about this game as a zombie -and therefore somewhat close to a horror- game? tl;dr last 6 lines.

Considering what's not working on DayZ

What I'm trying to figure in here is a way of giving coherence to both systems as a unity (PvP and PvE). You see, as of today, the meanest trouble you can get into while trying to get food is other players. Still, I'm yet to see two guys fighting over the same beans. Leave alone seeing them stopping that fight out of horror as they hear what sounds like a mourn in the next room, all this in a dark, rusty building, along with some fog and an optional, creepy music in the background. I do believe all of these game's incoherences have the same origin, that's the generalised neglecting of the environment as an active element of gameplay. In a world where twenty zombies could pop out from the next door, there would be no single player murder.

Why the skin system is fine...for now

You sir, seem to be the person I've been looking for. To be entirely honest with you, I really don't know what you're talking about for like, 85% of your post, but this quote makes me think you can give me an answer: So how exactly does one justify that measures are god-pooped upon the players? I mean, you're in a zombie apocalypse when BENG survivor appears. You pew pew him for whatever reasons, be them legit or not. And then what? Whatever measures the game takes by itself, out of the blue or by the force of the holy spirit amen entertainment upon players are justified by either 1. Delusion -> Stop fooling yourselves already, like now. You could not spot a murderer in a 5 people group. The fact you live in a 1st world country, never seen a murder only speaks of the bubble you live in. /discussion 2. Moral Boolsheet -> So the guy's a bandit, kills players. So f#@%ing what. What do you expect from PvP? You bump into someone, call friendlyOHOHOHYOUCAN'TKILLMENOW,CALLEDFRIENDLYLOL. What's your ideal situation? Having people taking their hats off at you as you pass by? ''Good morning, fine sir.'' My question, again, is: How do you justify that measures are taken upon murder? EDIT: Reading your post again, I think what you're pointing out there is the question of why would anyone just shoot you on sight. Well dude the answer is very simple. BTW I'm saying this having killed as many as zero players ever, and having been shot on sight a couple times: a ) I want to live, and regardless of what you say, you're a potential threat. b ) Your company / cooperation /gibberish interests me ZEROES! That simple. You're out there, I perfectly ignore your intentions, but know what: it's 50/50, and I'm not gonna run with the risks on a freaking 50% chance of eventually getting blown. And that's pretty much it. Not as if you were a real person, rather than a lot of 0 and 1 with a backpack.

What would you like to see in the stand alone?

I'd like to see special perks depending on your play style. So if you're a bandit, you've this option to apply vaseline on butthurt after every kill. If you're a moral consequentialist though, you could instead activate the St. Michael's grace debuff on those who've heal you, and grant them levitation

Considering what's not working on DayZ

...do we actually compete for the resources? It's quite the thing what you brought in, IMO. Because, being quite the pacifist , I'd totally see myself doing what's necessary to survive... if it was necessary, what's not the case today. Featuring actual scarcity in DayZ would see its intensity scaling big time.

Considering what's not working on DayZ

... And that's exactly what this topic is about. 'Cause, you know, the point should be not to ever think that you're safe, or that you have nothing to do. For me it's a bit like, saving the distances, I am Legend. You see in that movie (Will Smith, you recall?) the main guy is all geared up, has his own base and a life stock of beans, yet every time he has to go outside it's like trauma for him. He sets his alarm clock, maintains his weapons, make sure everything's in order before going out. And still he'll freak out if he hears something out there when he's outdoors. That's the way I'd like to live it. Well Rocket seems to be all in for that, don't ask me why. Which is a bit disturbing, you know, I don't really see how that would fit the game at all. I mean, yeah, ''zeds all over the surface, let's go underground.'' OK but from there to building an actual town or something underground, that'd be pfffffff for me. By allowing clans/people to be perma-safe, having them thriving underground, you'd be taking the game somewhere else. I don't think they'd count me in for anything besides little, fully destructible/collapsible bases. I agree entirely what with you're putting down there. Make the game darker, foggier, inhospitable; the zeds scarier, more realistic; force fear into the players, and you'll witness how they stop bitching around and start actually trying to survive.

Considering what's not working on DayZ

I do agree with you in that the whole idea of rotten, organically malfunctioning meatballs running actually faster than you makes little, tiny sense if any. From that perspective, I'd be ten times more happy with Shaun of the Dead or you know, classic mobs of slow zombies whose main thrilling point was their number and persistence.
