I believe you are correct, especially if 3P was removed altogether, however, if the OP's suggestion was implemented then I'm pretty sure things would settle down once everyone got used to it, in fact I think the only people who'd be really distressed would be those who rely on it and exploit it to the disadvantage of other players. In my opinion anyone with that kind of attitude and approach to gameplay is welcome to shed as many tears as they like, I for one shall bathe in them.

people go on about 3p being there because of Armas limited FOV but 99% of other FPS seem to manage perfectly fine, plus Arma has the awesome free look feature which 99% of FPS don't have. Free look effectively extends FOV in all directions. OP's original idea is magnificent because it allows those who want to 'look at their character' to do so without rewarding this bizarre desire with ESP exploits. My friends and I agree this is by far the best suggestion we have seen that deals with this contentious issue and if I could afford it I would buy the Heinz company and send every single can of baked beans they have to this mans door, each can of beans lovingly carried by a beautiful, sexually frustrated 21 year old blonde princess wearing lingerie made from fifty pound notes.

unfortunately far too many have come to rely on this crutch =( It would take some courage to go full hardcore, but there is a market out there for it I'm sure. A niche market admittedly, but you would get 100% of those who want the full experience as described by the OP. There must be a few hundred of us out there.

The holy grail as far as i'm concerned. A vanilla server with 3rd person/crosshairs/side chat disabled and the other features you mentioned. I too would love to know if such a server exists and would be interested in funding one if it doesn't.

when I found my first baseball bat I was soooo excited, I went immediately in search of zeds to try her out, I even named it Betty. I didn't count but I was distraught to discover just how ineffective it was, at least 10 hits, most of em headshots, before the zed went down. Needless to say Betty was binned and i'll never pick one up again, useless.

this gun, The Walther WA2000 isn't in Arma2 as far as i'm aware but I think it looks beautiful and would love to see it make an appearance.

everything that lies within your characters FOV would be visible, anything that lies outside your characters FOV, ie from the viewpoint of some supernatural, out of body being that floats about 10 feet behind and 6 feet above your character would remain hidden, for me it is this strange 3rd person mechanic that doesn't sit well. But, some peeps can't seem to be able to live without it, so let's make it fair for all.

there is a mod for Arma 2 that allows shooting assault rifles from little birds as seen in this vid @ 0:25, no doubt it could be added to land vehicles.
