it renders stealth and cunning obsolete as dslyecxi says, if I can see you you can see me, without that simple truth combat in dayz becomes a comedy -

serious shooter with 3rd person? name one and I know dayz is a zombie survival sim mmo thingymajig but who here will say that gunplay is without a doubt a key feature, maybe THE key aspect that makes the experience so special. and 3rd person literally dumps on serious gunplay edit -It seems some guys are posting here without watching the video. if they did watch it and they still believe 3rd person is a good idea then they must be insane -

the elephant in the room is every right thinking gamer knows 3rd person is just plain wrong. Youtubers love it and so do some, maybe most of their fans. It seems rocket/devs want to keep it and for good reason, videos sell games. all right thinking gamers, even those who love and use 3rd person must surely see this is a ridiculous feature that was inherited by the mod from a parent game concerned with humans v AI it was an accident that we ever got this mod with 3rd person. now is the time to correct that. -
I took off in a heli once, with two guys already in it they just landed and tried to kill me so I flew over the ocean and went AFK for the afternoon

how about this if you select third person every other player is rendered invisible for as long as you use it, switch back to 1st and you can see players again, this way you can still use it to position your character, check your bearings and admire your characters lovely new t-shirt. -

no in FPS you can 'free look' to see over your shoulder, like in real life free look btw effectively extends FOV in all directions completely removing any relevance for 3rd person doing the same thing. get rid -

you repeat the same nonsense again and again, you ignore points that successfully dismantle your defence of this legal but game breaking, magically inspired, supernatural 'see everything but stay hidden' invisible man feature. it sucks, guys use it cos it makes the game easy and extends a players life allowing him to see without being seen. its got no basis in the real world unless you believe in out of body experiences or the insane world of uri Gellar and the drug fuelled FBI 'remote viewing' program of the 1960's. I think the idea of removing it terrifies a lot of players because it is a crutch, and you will need to relearn how to walk without it. tell me how you like them apples pal? they're golden delicious -
of course, the way things stand now. rocket didn't discuss sovereignty with ccp for a giggle. attempting to control territory and resources is something real humans do in real life and EvE has proved can work in games. there needs to be major changes and of course it can never work in exactly the same way because EvE has a single server, but who knows what tricks rocket and co have up their sleeves. why not invest time and energy into trying to hold a piece of valuable territory, or indeed try and take it from a rival group? sounds like fun to me

the dream game, world would need to be 1000's of sq km's and would take years to build, but omg it would be the greatest game ever conceived by a human mind

all this and more =)

although this is a nice idea it requires support from the devs to work, they need to create an environment where resources and access to them is fairly limited, or at least can be limited by players, and also they need to strike the right balance with the loot tables. then leave it in the hands of the players to see where things go from there. for example make fuel stations have a limited supply of fuel, give players the possibility of poisoning a rival clans water supply therefore pushing up the value of their hold on the network of dams, this monopoly will encourage other groups to try and contaminate these dams and so on, it will encourage cooperation, hostility and add some realistic elements to survival aspects. of course servers will refresh and everything will begin again but with increased optimization there is no reason why a server can't generate it's own trade networks, territories and other great aspects of how life might be in a post apocalyptic world which continue for a few days, maybe even indefinitely if base building works the way it should.

quite, I don't see cash machines springing up in cherno =p but if a clan managed say to take control of a key water/fuel source it is not beyond the realms of possibility to imagine players turning up with empty bottles to be filled and loot to exchange. this is a pretty poor example but i'm sure you see what I mean.

EvE Online has the most realistic in game economy, so realistic in fact that several international think tanks study it for clues about the nature of commerce. I know Rocket has been in contact with these guys to pick their brains on several issues including larger player numbers on servers and territorial sovereignty, it would be mad if he didn't investigate just how they managed to develop this economic model with a view to introducing something similar in the SA. Post apocalyptic societies would eventually develop a simple trade based economy, based on resources and access to them, not unlike simple bronze age economies. The key is making sure things have real value and genuine scarcity and eliminate things like duping and other forms of cheating.

it's still a mechanic that mocks careful, thoughtful, stealthy and tactical gameplay, only it mocks slightly less. -

what concerns me is the comments about BiS consulting Youtubers on this issue. What kind of game designer places 'how it looks in videos' over 'how it feels to play'? -

Feral (DayZ) replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
not when it comes to mechanics, all games fall short of reality but some strive for realism and aim to get as close as possible using current technology. Floating 9 feet in the air to spot a player who is on the other side of a tree, a building and 2 walls while remaining invisible is so stupidly game breakingly unrealistic i cant believe we are having this debate at all. Get rid -

i agree, but 3rd person is so unrealistic it belongs in a game based on magic spells and supernatural powers -

master of the devastating metaphor =) its a tough fight ahead, so many guys in denial. i just scanned CoD forums, BF4 forums and CSGO forums and nobody is clamouring for 3rd person, i might register and make the suggestion, i'm sure even those communities will tear me apart, as this one quite rightly would for suggesting such a game breaking feature. -

Feral (DayZ) replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
best suggestion I've seen is this you only ever see players, zeds, loot, vehicles etc that are within your characters First person FOV, whether in 3rd or first person. This way it enables Third person guys to check their surroundings, see how well hidden their character is and how pretty he looks when he runs through a forest. But he has no advantage at all over other players. -

Feral (DayZ) replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
the trouble is 3rd person has swamped the mod, as it will (if allowed) swamp the SA this shall mean that all those guys who really want to play a First person shooter either choose from a handful of servers or join the masses and play in a way that is just plain ridiculous lest they succumb to the extreme disadvantage. 3rd person is fine in single player games but as said before in a pvp situation it just rips up all true strategy and tactical play. Dayz is either a hardcore survival experience that aims like no other for realism or it's not. Watch any youtuber who plays 3rd person, it is like watching someone cheat. -

because if both exist 'First person only' will become marginalised, just as it is in the mod. why on earth do you guys want a feature that would be called a wall hack in any other game?
