How to get better at gun fights.
Nicklovn replied to WhileOnTarget's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Remember that at a distance you're not hidden in bushes. You need to find a tree that has a lot of cover as well as trees around you and behind you. Always be next to the trunk, not in front. The best cover, though, is a rock that can defend you from where you suspect the hostiles are (rocks saved my life many times in ArmA 2 regular coop). As for finding targets, work with a squad. Get your binocs and scan. If you find a target report it to your team before you shoot unless the guy sees you. BTW, does your rifle have zeroing? If it does you can adjust it. If you have range finders or a rifle with mil dots you can judge the distance. And definitely practice in single player. Even go into editor and spawn some zombies and practice at 200-1000 meters. Good luck :) -
There are 5 of us and 3 of them. The 3 are admins, though, and can spawn in weapons so they're very kitted. If they haven't spawned in weapons, then they have more time in this game. We have numbers, they have weapon quality. The scenario was the land bridge. My squad and I had blockaded the whole passage (the only other way is by a very long rail bridge). Now the admins were coming when a squad was complaining about the blockade. The drove up to it with an SUV but we had sent out a side-chat warning not to approach. When they drove up to it we opened fire. From their perspective based on their stories (My squad and I have been in Skype calls with them): The guy in the passenger seat is severely injured with about 1000 blood left from my MK-48. The drive and other passenger get out and take cover behind the SUV. The injured person manages to get into cover and starts to heal himself (or is healed by his squad-mate). After a couple of minutes of waiting one of them fires a shot from behind their vehicle and I open up again. In the back we had a guy with a DMR who opened fire. No kill. I decided to pull back a bit when the possibility of a flanking maneuver was discussed in our call (I'm at risk because there is a LOT of tracer fire from the MK-48). Suddenly, one of them pops up over his vehicle and takes a perfect shot and takes out our sniper. I continue to wait. One of the guys writes in side chat that he calls for a truce but my squad refused. I decided I can't abandon them. Then some fire started to my right. I lost two squad mates from that. The last squad mate pulled back and I said I would stay in that region. Now I crawled forward again to get an eye of the bridge. The squad mate that fell back went to get our last DMR (again we'd been playing for a while). My friend spawned behind the mods and found a car. He wanted to run them over in a last desperate act. He was killed and they confiscated the vehicle. This almost turned out beneficial to me. In about 20 minutes one of the mods got into the vehicle and started driving. I opened fire, and the vehicle exploded. The guy in the vehicle survived and crawled away. The reason I didn't finish him off was that the last mod with the sniper reappeared. The guy that took our last DMR said he had eyes on, and took the shot. We had killed one of the moderators. We only had two survivors but it was a hell of a fight :)

Do you ever feel bad, or regret a kill?
Nicklovn replied to tals975's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Always. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I remember after my group and I ran into a bunch of glitches my friend died to one of the said glitches (he fell through solid ground). He was so pissed that a few minutes later you start seeing **** Was Killed. ******** Was Killed. **** Was Killed. After every kill he said "that was me." So, in a group of 7, 3 of us died to glitches, we flipped an SUV to a glitch etc. He was pissed. Needless to say, those guys were pretty mad but there was nothing I could do. -
Sam Fisher. But on the other hand, if it was really him you wouldn't see him. And if you did, you wouldn't be posting on this forum!

Alright, let's begin. You guys are gonna love this! My friends and I had been playing on a Namalsk server for many days without dying. We were getting very confident (so much so that we drove an SUV around while blasting music in the direct chat). Eventually, after doing some banditesque things (we killed a new spawn after he and his group killed two of us. Still, a new spawn. But with a winchester) we decided to do something nice for someone. The guy was a very polite individual who regularly apologized for keeping us waiting and eventually he approached us via the land bridge (if you don't have Namalsk it's a long and very dangerous passage of land where you can easily be sniped). This was all for a blood transfusion which I would administer to him. We also had an extra backpack (I think it was the British Assault) and a gun and we were feeling very generous. Now for where it gets really dirty. We're set up on the Old Hospital side of the Land Bridge. The guy we're meeting is running from the opposite side. All of the sudden someone opens fire with an MK-48 on his side (missing every shot which totals, probably, about 50 rounds). We get this guy to our side of the land bridge (which we blockaded the whole thing with tank traps and wire fencing that we had collected). Then another guy by the name of Lemonheads says he wants a blood transfusion. He drives up to the blockade on the bridge and I give him a blood transfusion. Our sniper, unfortunately, decided he wanted to come down (again, we were overly confident) and after a minute or two the machine gun opened fire...from our side. I immediately got into cover only to discover that I was taking fire from behind. Lemonheads (the guy I gave the blood transfusion to) was working with Keyski (the machine gunner) in order to kill us all. I'm not going to complain about these people but by the end of the day our loot/losses was: +One Taxi +One UAZ +One new team member (total size is 7 now) -One M4A1 gl (not the cco scope but the 8x scope) <-- I'll miss this baby I lost the 3 HE gl rounds. -One MK48 -One Coyote Backpack -Our excessive confidence All in all I'm happy we met our new team mate as well as the new UAZ for storage. By the way, these guys hid our bodies and logged about 5 minutes after taking us out. I'm not really mad at them since it's DayZ, but I would rather be shot on sight than betrayed when I'm trying to help someone. Oh well, hopefully you guys will be more cautious when trying to help people :) Happy surviving! That's my group and I's story.

Age: 18 Nikola (call me Nick. I am Bulgarian) Skype: Nicklovn Country: United States Timezone: Central Steam Name]: Nicklovn Experience: 8-9 (I'm modest. How can I say 10?) Game Style: Rifleman, pilot, driver, even sniper but a weapon would have to be provided Extra Info: Simply put, I have a ton of experience in both DayZ and regular ArmA. I've sniped in both Vanilla and ACE and have no problem shooting anyone who threatens my friends. I can range targets using only the mil-dots and some basic math, I have good gear but I still keep my AKM (I've dropped an M4, an M14, and an AKS-74 Also, my flight experience started in FSX in which I flew mostly fighter jets but got experience with the pre-scripted heavy transport helo missions. Then in ArmA 2 I flew as a pilot and am proud to say that I've saved at least 5-10 men (my most memorable being when I extracted one guy, who couldn't make it into the helo, just before some heavy artillery leveled the town he was in) -
I am 18. I think we know who is the new leader here >:)
