I'm thinking like two clans of 23 people each, plus 4 'unafilliated' players battle it out for supremacy of one server over the course of one weekend. Everyone starts with a fresh spawn by suicide at the start of the match, and from then on, everything is fair game (with the exception of gamey cheats like DC'ing, etc.). All in real-time of course, including night, and no player may disconnect for any reason. Feeling sleepy? Go lay your charcter down in bush while you nap on the couch. Gotta piss? Hide in a bush while you run the bathroom. I really think it could be cool. Opinions?

Seriously, this is the bandit campfire. Shouldn't we be boasting about the groups we've ambushed and the armor plating we've made from a paste of their ground-up bones and the tears of carebears? Personally, I was moving through the North-South line of woods above Novy Sabor, raiding deer stands, and charged right over the top of a prone survivor. I hadn't seen him until I was standing almost on top of him. I made a quick u-turn, and ran off through the woods in the direction from which I had come. I had surprised him as much as he had surprised me, and as I bunkered down behind a nice thick tree I saw "Friendly?!?!" come through the side chat. No, I'm definitely not friendly. Decidedly unfriendly, to be honest, but I wasn't about to take my hand off the mouse to tell him that. If he went the other direction, he could go. If he came in my direction, he would go down. Surely enough, a handful of seconds later he comes bumbling through the woods, bright blue beaner sleeves giving him away, Remington 870 tucked in his shoulder. By now my heart is beating out of my chest, an my first excited burst with my AK is ineffectual, with the exception of scaring the guy half to death. He ducks behind a tree, and we start playing the I-lean-out-you-lean-out dance of death. We exchanged hurried snap shots at each other from 30 or 40 meters, neither scoring hits, until we both leaned out at the same time. He hit me with a single 12g slug, I stitched a burst up his chest and into his head. My murder count goes +1, and after a quick bandage and a few steaks I'm back up to 9,000 bleed and feeling quite pleased. Knowing I've attracted the interest of anyone within ear shot, I loot quickly - asside from the usual bean rations and 12g slugs, there was more steak (yes please), G17 (no thanks), binoculars (which I needed), and an AK mag (just object if you don't want me to take it. What's that you say? Speak up. Can't talk with a hole in your chest? Oh well, you can't say I didn't try). As I high-tail it out of the trees and onto an open field, I happen to look back over my shoulder, and there crouching at the edge of the tree line is another survivor, and lo and behold, he starts taking potshots at me with a pistol. I turn to run back to the trees and take cover. Just as his dead friend did, he started coming at me through the trees. He took cover behind a large one, I took a few shots at him. He was hit, and bolted from cover, running straight from me. I put my Kobra sight square in his back and shot him down with a burst trough his Coyote patrol pack. Looting him lets me replenish my 1911 mags and a bit more health. More importantly, the nearby deer stand affords me an M4 CCO. Nearby is a tractor. I find an empty whiskey bottle and break it on my new agricultural stallion, christening him "Rampage Wagon" (I was too excited to be cleverly creative). It only had an eighth of a tank of gas, but it would get me most of the way down to Elektro, where I would clear the town in intense house to house fighting, bringing my murder total to 9 before a mutual death in glorious single combat bar-brawl with a Bandit brethren in Cherno. So, bandits, what memories of murderous misadventure do you all hold dear in post-soviet Chernorus? And keep the guilt to yourselves this time.

Because killing a real person is a lot different from "killing" someone in a game you obstinate fucking child. Are you really such a retard that you can't differentiate between reality and fantasy? Let me break it down for your tiny mind: many people enjoy competition, and enjoy winning at those contests. Murder is a way for players to pit themselves against other players, and enjoy the feeling of besting someone else at the game. Grow up.

For me, looting isn't always worth the risk. It's a risk/reward situation every time I murder. If I have an M4 in the pack, and the guy I killed in a high traffic zone had an AKM and a Czech backpack, I will have serious reservations about moving in to loot. I'm not going to lose my CZ/M4/ALICE combo over some incompatible mags and whatever other junk the guy had. However, if I'm in a low traffic zone and I just happened to get the drop on someone then sure I'll check it out. You never know why might be holding an M4A3 SD or M24 in their pack. At this point, the only loot I'm taking a chance over is going to be the large coyote.

My favorite part is how in one line he says "go kill people is Stary Sabor, it's really easy to shoot people there!" and then farther down it says "go loot in Stary Sabor, there's good stuff there!" I said it before, I'll say it again: a dumbass with good gear is still just a dumbass.

Best reliable source for good guns is in the hands of other players. Gun them down and enjoy your well deserved spoils.

Sometimes I shoot and don't loot. I don't do it for dick waving, I don't do it to ruin someone's day. I do it because hunting people is fun as hell. I work 7 days a week, I don't get a whole lot of time for fun in my life. But hunting people in DayZ, man, is really something else. It gives me a pure, visceral rush of adrenaline and excitement. I know there's someone real on the other end of that player model, and it's me against him in high-stakes gaming. What other game has such repercussions from dying? None that I play. Get killed in BF3? Big fucking deal, you're back in action 5 seconds later with all the same gear. Get killed in DayZ, though, that can be a few days or even weeks of work wiped out in a few exhilirating seconds. To paraphrase an Internet legend, "my heart's beating, my hands are shaking! But I'm still shooting! And I'm still getting headshots!"

Don't listen to people just telling you to get a good gun. That's not a tip, that's common knowledge. Like I'm going to play every life with a Makarov. Your best weapon is your brain and ingenuity is your ammunition. That being said: -Mobility! I once saw a sniper in Cherno from 200 meters out. I only had 3 rounds left for my AK-74. I scored one hit, but then I was dry and with only my 1911 to finish this guy. Using concealment, rapid flanking, and ladders, I closed the distance to 65 meters and fired two magazines of .45 at him before tagging him with a lucky headshot. I looted him for his CZ550 and ALICE. He was just a dumbass with a good gun who had wedged himself into a shit position which afforded him no escape. Move fast, control the engagement. -Instinct! If your gut tells you that mayhe something is fishy about your situation, then something is definitely fishy. You see 15 zeds walking around that deer stand 200 meters away? $100 says there's a group of survivors looting it right now. -Wear headphones! Sound so clear you can hear the insects fucking. I'm the only member of my small band to wear headphones and I'm always the first one to hear shots fired from a long way off. Headphones also allow for a very distinct left/right sensation for audio. If a shot is fired within earshot if me, I will hunt that guy down. -Shoot first, don't hang around to ask questions! See someone? Shoot them dead at the earliest quality opportunity. Maybe they were a really nice person. Oh well. Loot them fast and then run. Every pair of hostile ears that heard your murder is going to be descending on your area to investigate. You can either get as far from the crime scene as possible, or get a few hundred yards away and knock down the buzzards as they appear. -Know how to get in AND out! Going into Cherno to kill some survivors in glorious house to house combat? Great, have fun and be safe. But first, take one mealsy minute to plan one ingress route and at least two egress routes. If you only plan one escape route and suddenly a band of survivors starts coming at you from that direction, you're going to be ass out when the bullets start flying with nowhere to run, and you can't stick your head up to look because then you get your skull ventilated. Always always always plan your moves. It takes 30 seconds to come up with the most basic plan, and that can save you hours of working to get your loot back.

Honest question, just wondering about what it is exactly that survivor groups get up to. I get that you guys are "surviving" but what differentiates you from bandits? Do you not murder (if you can help it)? I don't imagine there being too much to do if you aren't roaming around killing. Just curious.
