  1. The very first day I played, it was pitch black (and I mean pitch fucking black) and I was scared and alone. I saw a lighthouse and I side chatted "anyone at the lighthouse?" Someone replied "don't go the lighthouse it's haunted!" So I ran away.

Do you kill players hiding in a church?

Of course. I throw a fucking grenade in that bitch.

The one thing i hate about Dayz

You people need to get creative!

    FPS Guru interview

But the main theme of this game, as far as I can tell, is a highly realistic zombie apocalypse survival simulation. How many of us here, if the zombie apocalypse struck tomorrow, would actually posses the skills to survive? Could you run long distances? I'd wager that the majority of people on this forum would struggle with 1 or 2 miles of running, to say nothing of killing and cleaning an animal, firing a weapon, applying first aid, etc. Character progression would create a lasting bond between a player and his avatar that would transcend the current kill count/gear/days alive connection. Also, I believe it would drive teamwork, lower the rampant PvP, and give players a long-term goal to achieve. I don't mean for skill points to become overpowered, but it would add needed diversity.

    FPS Guru interview

That's disappointing. I'm hoping a reasoned argument can bring him around to the other side of this issue.
  6. Around 4 guys packed into a GAZ last night, driving through the middle of Stary, I put a burst of AKM into the back window, they all jumped out and DC'd. They could have easily fought me if they wanted to, but they DC'd instead and now I have a sweet new car. Next time you guys should stick around.

Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'

Well I can handle military hardware and I can fly a plane. I can skin and gut an animal an know which pieces to eat, so I've got a few of those skills. My wife can do all manner of medical miracles, so together we would make a great team. Which is exactly where DayZ falls on its face. Everyone in DayZ is a hardcore operator. We can all fly, drive, shoot, swim, administer first aid, run for miles, shoot automatic weapons, reload quickly on the run, etc etc etc. DayZ needs player backgrounds, stat increases, lasting permanent damage, and so on. Have you ever seen someone who has never handled a weapon before try and use it? They can't even load the damn thing, much less engage anything accurately. Character progression is the #1 feature I will be looking for in the standalone.

Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'

That would be "dog eat dog." Not to be pedantic.
  9. From outside the city, observe for at least 5 minutes from high ground. Get a feel for the city. Do you hear gun fire? Is it a shooting gallery down there, or is it quiet? Is it TOO quiet? Any zeds in sight? If so, are they milling around or running? Check all the obvious sniper towers and hills. Avoid zeds. If you have to shoot one, leave the immediate area. Anyone with murderous intent who heard you is now headed in your direction. Be safe.

    I'm turning into a bandit.. :(

Turning into a bandit is just DayZ puberty.
  11. If you're looking for some solid PvP, go to the woods just north of Cherno, there are always guys there looking for a fight.

    Funniest Moments On DayZ, GO!

Group of 4 guys in a car drove into Stary. They stopped and I fired my AKM into their back window. They all got out of the car and disconnected as I sprayed them with bullets. I hopped in their car and drove away uphill over the grass. It was a 4-door sedan with terrible offroad performance. I was only going about 22kph so it was like the world's slowest and most pathetic getaway.

    PvP doesn't seem that bad...

There is a similar phenomenon in the Civilization V world where people think they're just going to be left alone to build their city all day and not get attacked. Then when someone with sense builds an army and crushes the peaceniks, they yell and scream about how bullshit it was. People in DayZ seem to think they can collect beans all day and then get shocked when they are shot by someone with some sense. DayZ isn't about peaceful coexistence, it's about you and your small group of friends vs. anything that moves.
  14. Because Enfield is a PvP beast. Long range, high accuracy, great open sights, huge power, it's an ass kicker.

    Bleeding out

Shoot him in the back. Loot him for everything you need. Eat all his food. Run to the woods for safety.

    Sniping for Fun Isn't Banditry

Yeah that is awesome. The problem with that just loops back to the DC issue. You have to actually find someone willing to play along.

    Sniping for Fun Isn't Banditry

So if you don't murder, what separates you from a common survivor?

    longest shot

756m with an M16 ACOG. He was on top of Cherno tower, I was in the woods to the north. Took 13 shots, only 1 landed, but it was right in the head. Beautiful kill, looted the shit out him (DMR, NVG, mags for my M9SD) then when he came back to recover his stuff I shot him 15 times in the top of the head with my M9 while he was on the ladder. Laughed myself silly for a couple minutes, good times.

    Sniping for Fun Isn't Banditry

"Your bandity isn't REAL banditry waa waa waaaaaa..." There's at least a thread every day from some hipster bandit who says you have to either take prisoners, or only kill when you really have to, or whatever before you can be a real bandit, like it's a 4-year degree program from Oxford or some shit. If you kill people, you're a bandit. If you cry about it, you're a pussy.
  20. Mooseocalypse

    What did you feel?

My first couple kills were back in the bandit skin days. I killed a pair of bandits and thought I was some kind of fucking super hero for doing it. Then I wised up. I don't remember my first murder, they've all kind of blurred together.
  21. Rocket has already said the "rested" logout is not possible because of ARMA's netcode.
  22. DC'ers are a gigantic pain in the ass and ruin the game. Right now, logging out in shock just means you'll spawn in unconscious and be inconvenienced. If someone logs out in shock, they ought to be killed outright. Shock itself ought to be tweaked to last for a shorter amount of time, maybe 2 minutes instead of 5, so people in shock for legitimate reasons can still log out when they have to go to work or their wives are nagging or whatever. I know logging is supposed the be fixed next ARMA beta, but in the mean time just a hotfix maybe?
  23. Mooseocalypse

Logging out in shock should kill you

Please elaborate. If you think there are better way to resolve this issue, by all means let us know. Shower us with your towering intellect.
  24. Character progression. At the moment, our players are all hardcore operators. We run for miles, shoot like champs, reload on the run, no medical problem is too daunting, etc. It would be nice if we spawned in with a limited but chooseable skill set that would progress with us over time.

    Finally, mountain dew!

It's the opposite of a good luck charm for me. Every time I've carried a Mountain Dew I've ended up did within a few hours.
