I actually like this idea. I think it was in one of the sub-mods that there was a notebook with a kill count? You could flip through different pages and tally up your kills, either zombies, players, etc. As well as your time being alive. -
Have nothing better to do? Take the western highway.

Quiet you! that's the best-kept secret in the game! It's also the least populated with food and water. I died of starvation as I was searching the only berry bush in 5km. That was awkward. -
I'm just going to point out here that people are arguing about two different things. 1) Booby trapping.laying a defensive 'minefield' of sorts around your camp. 2) Placing an armed bomb inside your own backpack so that it blows up when opened. There has to be some sort of mine, a la the beartrap from DayZmod. I would do it in real life. There does NOT need to be a mechanic for rigging your own clothes THAT YOU ARE WEARING with explosives. The boobytraps used in Vietnam were placed on routes/objects that an enemy was likely to touch. The modern term for this is IED. The VC/NVA didn't run around rigged to blow.

Yes and yes. The loot is still a little borked, but zombies are significantly better.

No vehicles yet. Hunting and fishing are in, as with cooking. Tents are in, some basic crafting is in.

I can top that. I died of dehydration today within sight of a helo crash on the experimental build. Somehow I was unable to find a creek, pond, can of soda, tinned fruit, water bottle, canteen, apple tree or berry bush. How the hell is that even possible?? The loot system is goddamn borked at the moment it isn't funny.

When was this announced? EDIT: Ninja'd. I'm both nervous and excited by this. Sony backing means more resources, but a 14 button controller would severely limit the functionality of the game. Just so long as there is no cross-breeding in the same hives.

I for one like this. Right now I'm carrying a .22, Makarov, and sawn off shotgun. The shotgun is for close encounters where I need more punch then the .22 will offer. If I can replace that with a rifle, why not? The damn thing in my jacket. This is why that's important. I'm getting held up. The bandit tells me to drop my .22 and axe on my shoulder. I go into my inventory, do as he says, but slip the sawn off from my bag to my jacket. He tells me to take off my bag. I do so, he thinks I'm unarmed. The next thing he knows, I've got him dead to rights with a full sized rifle round instead of some pea shooter pistol. -
These are very limited options. The best camouflage is a mixture of everything, going a bit on the light side. Tan tactical shirt, gorka fall pants, beige field hat, khaki vest with green rifle. Either beige gloves or damaged yellow gloves. No glasses, and a camo bandana covering your face. You want to break up your outline as much as possible up close, and keep in mind that at range you appear darker. So that's why you want lighter shades. Also keeping in mind what colour terrain you are on, what is behind you (you want to blend with the background, not the foreground), and your stance. Going prone 'sinks' you into the ground, hiding you. Ditto removing your bag.

Definitely the sporter .22 (even with no mag. Makes you aim more), sawed off shotgun with 30 rounds, and maybe an SKS in my hands if I feel threatened. The shotgun is a fucking monster in close quarters. Oh, and a Makarov. My ultimate favourite DayZ weapon, straight from the mod!
