Just did the cleanest takedown I've ever been a part of! Tugodoomer, Primary, and Svetlov! That was the most satisfying DayZ moment ever! Thanks guys. I wouldn't have attacked, but you snuck up on us.

After about 4 hours on the sever, my initial impressions are good. I've never relied so heavily on a hatchet, ever. Though I DO wish that Enfields were slightly more common. I've found a single mag (doesn't the Enfield take 5 round stripper clips?) and no weapon. I've seen a couple double barrels and have a 570mcs but have not seen a single other weapon. I love the rarity of loot though. It's hit a great balance. AND DAT MAP!

What is your sidearm of choice?
Merrick362 (DayZ) replied to meat pie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
G17. Extremely good sights, great accuracy, flashlight, large capacity, versatile ammo (takes M9 and G17 mags) able to fire suppressed ammo (I know it's a glitch, but I take full advantage), and when paired with an MP5, it provides ammo commonality. It's a good hero gun. Edit: Or the Makarov. God I love that thing. -

Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
Merrick362 (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I'm sure this has already been said somewhere in the 35 pages of this thread, but how about something a little different: Modular load bearing vests! The way I see it is this: Your character spawns with his basic gear, and through your experience in game you obviously come across different types of clothes which include different types of vests. One of the types of vest you can find in the game will be a MOLLE style vest/plate carrier (if you look at the PMC models in game you can see this is what they are wearing). When you initially find this vest it will come with one or two magazine pouches that you can carry primary ammunition in for quick access. All other ammo will be stored in other areas, and will take longer to get to (digging through a bag takes time). But here's the clincher: you will also be able to find other pouches that you can attach to the vest as you see fit. This will increase your carrying capacity as well as visually alter your appearance in game. Want to carry 10 mags? Find enough pouches and you can! Want two frags easily accessible? No problem, find the pouches and toss 'em on the vest! Most militaries use some sort of modular equipment, so this makes sense in this game. This would enhance gameplay in a number of meaningful ways: 1) Having a modular vest/carrier would allow for deeper role-play experiences. If you only carry a weapon to defend yourself against small threats, you only need to have a couple mag pouches, and can instead attach a utility pouch for misc. storage of medical supplies, or just save weight and not attach anything at all. If you are more of a gunfighter-type player, dispose of the utility pouch and add more ammo storage. This will of course increase your load, but it enables you to carry a fight through to completion. 2) Having a visual indicator of what another player is carrying will dictate better player interaction. If you encounter a player that has for example, one mag pouch and multiple utility pouches, you can safely assume that he is less likely to initiate a fight than the player with 10 mags and 2 frags. One of these people is ready for war, one is just trying to survive. -

Hahaha, did I accidentally hijack this back on topic? I went back a page and they were talking about lathering up in baby oil. You're welcome. Also, the bolt carrier on the M4 is visibly moving with each round...is that new? I'm totally digging the interchangable handguards as well! Dat grass! Nerdgasm -

Bayonet. Bayonet bayonet bayonet. BAYONET! YES! -
Meta-gaming is not cheating. It's creating a tactical advantage. It is a tool that is available to every single player should they choose to use it. Your personal decision to not use it doesn't make it "cheating".

Anyone else bothered by the lack of zeroing?
Merrick362 (DayZ) replied to mushroom911's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fair enough, I was thinking more "western" (NATO) armies, not eastern block style militaries. In my personal experience, modern sights are very easy to adjust, provided they arent , for lack of a better term, Fixed" sights, such as an ACOG where the ranging is built in. My own service rifle has a C79 Optical sight that has a very intuitive dial marked from 200-800 meters. Just judge, spin and correct if needed. Again, not trying tostart a flame war here, im just trapped on base and bored to tears. EXIT: psychiatrist, that is my usual strategy in this game as well. Inside 300m, any first round accuracy lost is more than made up for by volume of fire. -
Anyone else bothered by the lack of zeroing?
Merrick362 (DayZ) replied to mushroom911's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Dont allow soldiers to set their own sights? I've never heard of this in my life. Maybe if you mean ACTUAL zeroing, as in adjusting the sight to the inividual shooter, but so far as adjusting the ranges, literally every military I have ever worked with teaches troops to do this. America, Britain, Germany, Canada (my military), everyone. You simply are inneffective if you are unable to adjust the range of your weapon. As a side note, engagement vary from 2 feet to 600 or more meters in my experience. Just sayin. EdIT: this wasn't meant to flame, just to make a point. -
Why DayZ sucks, is unrealistic and needs to get fixed!
Merrick362 (DayZ) replied to banditkilla92's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That wasn't directed at you ManInTheWall, it was directed at the OP, with regards to his comment about 9/11 seeming like civilization was ending. I'm flaming him because he thinks he remembers what it was like, when really, he didn't have the faculties to understand (not his fault, he WAS 9 after all). Lost story short, internet fighting. EVERYBODY WINS! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YOU SET UP A DUMMY ACCOUNT TO TRY AND AVOID THE SHITSTORM YOU KNEW WAS COMING? AWESOME! -

How do you fight players in CQC?
Merrick362 (DayZ) replied to applejaxc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Think "double-tap, dash, down, roll, engage". The initial double-tap (or triple or whatever) disorients and scares the player. Most players immediately seek cover when fired upon and this give you the advantage. At the same time, take 3-4 steps and dive prone and roll to one side. Especially at close range, this moves you off the "X", and buys you a second to aim. By this point you should have the player dead to rights and can engage with rapid, semi-auto fire. I recently won a 4 way firefight doing this. Sure, I lost the use of my legs and kept passing out, but I won and got the loot. -
