What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
$able replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
I'm wondering, has the amount of perceived teleporting, instant-killing and aimbotting (or cheating in general) decreased with the latest stable update? I ask because this thread seems to be kinda silent for the past few days. If that's the case it's logical to assume that many hack-like situations were indeed caused by desync (which is now improved with the new network code). -

That's what I meant, the game's (not BE's) signature check isn't tricked by this. Players doing this should still be kicked ("Session lost") after a few minutes, but the problem is that often they aren't. But again, this has nothing to do with the trick you mentioned. What you describe merely bypasses BE's detection, but BE is limited in what it can do here anyway. -

This is known for a long time and should actually be covered by the game's signature check. However, it seems certain players are never kicked or only after a long time (e.g. 20 minutes), so this definitely should be fixed. -
The problem has been analyzed and will be fixed shortly.

Just to clarify, no one will get banned for this if no actual hacks are used. Calibre, please check my PM.

Btw, here is a quote from a hacking forum: That shows how one cheater can make it look like everyone is cheating when that's clearly not the case. So "duping" is another big problem that needs to be addressed. -

Yes, I admit, BE is useless and you apparently seem to know everything about it, so I can't really contradict you... Oh well, ignorance is bliss I guess. ;) VAC doesn't actually detect most "private" hacks (not even the more public ones), so you must have made a bad mistake indeed (e.g. obvious DLL hiding?). As you implied yourself, it's not really possible to detect each and every unknown private hack. There aren't really a lot of 100% detections when it comes to this and hence bans are rarely possible. See above. :) -

Don't you know that BE always adds such hacks to any game it supports? :P It's quite funny no one ever complains about VAC... Seriously, of course this sucks, but BE cannot magically fix the engine's weaknesses/exploits. So let's hope the DayZ developers can fix such blatant hacks as soon as possible. But again, not everything you see is a hack. As confirmed by others (see http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/168635-whats-the-current-hacking-status-like-in-dayzsa/page-31#entry1924101), desync seems to cause a lot of weird hack-like situations as well. Other than that, let me state again that BE is quite effective against most private hacks. In fact, some major providers don't even have a working hack online at this very moment. And yet here we are with "everyone" complaining. Believe me, this is as frustrating for me as it is for you. -

We do. Don't believe me, ask some cheaters how often they have been banned already. BE generally bans cheaters quite quickly, it surely doesn't take weeks. Other than that, let me remind you again that BE cannot actually "fix" game exploits (including teleport and ammo hacks). We can try to protect against it, but we cannot fix the underlying problem. -

Interesting, thanks for confirming my theory. -

Maybe you should ask some private hack users about their experiences with BE. I doubt they share your opinion. Besides, the almighty VAC that many players love so much is active as well... -

Yes, that's what I meant. Infinite ammo is indeed possible, but those magazines could have been modified a while ago. They don't necessarily indicate that the player using them is actually a cheater (although likely). -

I would think there are still a lot of inexperienced players who are like "Wow, cool, I'll take that!", but who knows. -

I suppose those magazines/items could have been "spawned" (rather modified) by cheaters weeks ago and now be in use by regular players? I don't really actively play this game myself (no time ;)), so I'm not sure if this assumption could be correct. Unless there are a bunch of new popular hacks that I'm not aware of, no. Maybe certain hacks didn't have those features a few months ago. I suppose you only play on BE-enabled servers? -

That number is related to OA, not DayZ Standalone though. ;) -

This is how long it usually takes in VAC's case (if those private hacks are even detected, which is not the case most of the time), which has nothing to do with BE. Bans usually follow within days (sometimes even just one day), not weeks. Old public hacks are banned almost instantly. Not possible in Steamworks games. I agree that the "stealthiness" argument is used too often as an excuse (especially in VAC's case). The goal should always be to maximize the overall impact on hacking. -

It's quite the opposite. If BE completely eliminated hacking it would be the best argument to use it everywhere and thereby make my company even more profitable. In fact that will always be BE's ultimate goal. As an experienced gamer you should know that there is no such thing as an unhackable online game (poker excluded :P). The existence of hacks is like a natural law, it will always exist as long as there is code running on a client. It's pretty much impossible to take literally all power away from the client. Maybe this analogy helps: Think of DayZ (or any game) as a living organism, a big organism since it's quite popular. There will always be parasites, viruses, etc. attacking it, whether you like it or not. It's just how nature works. Yes, the organism itself can and should be strengthened (better internal architecture), but that doesn't mean there won't be anyone/anything attacking it. And that's where BE comes in. ;) -

This is no excuse or anything, but I noticed a massive increase in complaints right after the last major updates (mid-March) while the amount of hack users didn't really increase (rather the opposite actually, January was much worse compared to now). My theory is that there is some new desync issue that could possibly be the cause for many hack-like situations (teleporting, instant kills, etc.). Again, this is no excuse, I'm just trying to find an explanation for this change in perception since the last stable updates were released. It's a fact that these days BE is more effective than ever (anyone with access to private hacks can verify that), so this whole situation is quite weird. -

Since I read complaints about cheating on experimental servers all the time: I advise everyone to only play on BE-enabled experimental servers. It's a fact that most private hacks aren't detected by VAC very often, so if you want best protection you should make sure you only play on BE-enabled servers. -
Normally that's not necessary as the game automatically updates the BEClient.dll in that folder if it has an older version number.
-
I understand, I'm quite annoyed by this issue as well. ;) At least we know the cause (for many players) now.
-
Actually it wasn't BE's fault if the file was in use by Steam. Thanks a lot for posting those details though, I really wasn't aware of this. It would be great if others having this problem could check if their BEClient.dll (in the AppData BE folder mentioned in the first post) is in use by Steam.exe as well. If that's the case we will reach out to Valve to get this fixed ASAP.

I'll just reiterate this here as well: If you come across any "undetected" hacks please send any information about them (links, etc.) to me. -
What sort of router are you using?
