Possibly the best sound addons I've seen so far, Rocket please add something similar!
DKR replied to GrandadAssasin's topic in Suggestions
oh wow, that was great! the rain sounded more like urban rainfall, but everything was awesome -
There are water purification tablets either already in-game or going to be implemented. I've seen them. I would, however, like a Soda Stream in dayz!!!!!

I appreciate your perspective. I actually think you just may be right. But let me just pick something out of my OP that...I dunnno, maybe you missed. Maybe not. I'll pluck it out and put it down here in bold for you. "I'm not saying the SoS mentality has disappeared...I'm just saying that I think Dean Rocket Hall has done some great things to blur the lines between a Hero and a Bandit. I also believe that future updates will bridge the two polarized play styles." I was quite clear with my opinion, or at least I thought. I think they'll be a range of playstyles, rather than 95% SoS bandits and the rest heroes. Key words there are: blur and bridge. SoS, or KoS as you put it, is absolutely fun! But I'm confident that in time...there will not only be new motives and reasons to NOT SoS, but also new playstyles entirely that we haven't even discussed or thought of yet! Again, SoS won't disappear. Never said that, in fact, never implied it. Its just my opinion that there will be an influx of more friendly players, considering both the new features of the game and the new players to the game will add depth to playstyles...rather than just absolutely everyone SoS...there will be some in-betweeners, if you will, and more friendlies. I think.

No worries my friend! Remember...they plan on adding mod support. ....and I plan on making some item variety mods of my own...but I'll keep the ideas secret for now. (never doubt the ambition and creativity of modders) >> hence, DayZ exists. More variety of higher end gear.....will come my friend EDIT: but i DO see your point.

I see what you're saying. I would say "holding someone up" takes skill and practice. If you can get the jump on someone, you can usually hold them up. > I usually peek around corners in 3rd person, tell'em to drop their weapon, and then move in once they've dropped it. Sometimes a bit more complex than that. It takes practice, but I do it so I can get good "quality" gear instead of ruined gear. > Combat logging will be dealt with in the coming weeks/months, so we won't have to worry about that forever. > You're right, gear=character lvl basically. In a hold up, USUALLY, not always, but usually, you probably won't lose ALL your gear. Unless they're being dicks. > I think the item damage from bullets is designed to promote "hold ups" against well-armed, well-geared players. Anyone can find a pair of pants or shirt, but I don't want to shoot the guy with the camo, ghillie, or whatever, because I want it. I'll try to hold him up. Just thoughts.......

I've never had a forum post dedicated to just me before. Interesting. "I got a little disappointed, thus i came here to vent it. I now realise that was a mistake. The fanboy's have set upon me." > No. You did not get "a little disappointed". You attacked Dean, the game, the developers, and have now grouped everyone in a group called "fanboys" because they had the sensible, and predictable response of explaining the general concept of an Alpha game. The descriptors you're using to describe my response aren't even applicable. There's no way you can spin this in your favor. You bashed the creators and specifically the head honcho, the public figure of the project, Dean Hall, for his "failure" on this game, as if you were an authority on this subject. Your first post, as a new member, was that angry post about the developers and the game. If you aren't new to the forums, then you either have another account or you were banned. I'm not sure. Doesn't matter I suppose. I just assume most folks would like to see some prosocial contributions to the forums before an angry rant. Still, you cannot point out your own awareness of the game's Alpha state and then proceed to bash it's shortcomings with security. I've read several constructive criticisms on here about the issues with the game. Yours was not constructive, but rather toxic to this community. Calling an individual out in the title of a post certainly doesn't look calm, professional, or mature either. Never seen a member do that before.

Just started yesterday... When I load in, the reload sound plays, I'm able to move around, access my inventory. I cannot pull out my gun, move things around in inventory, or open doors. My ping says 0, desync says 0, and bandwidth says 0. I've restarted, relogged, unplugged router for a night....I was able to play for about 20 hours without a hitch, surprisingly well actually. Now...just nothing. Thank you for your time! Dustin

"Fixed with either tons more desirable options for gear" Its coming. Patience.
-
Jesus...I will not insult you I promise. But jesus....I would like to assume that its obvious that the details of the item damage system will get fixed and worked out as they progress. When it's working, it should give people hesitation to SoS. Why are you complaining about it not working at the moment exactly? Sarcasm and bratty attitude towards their game isn't very productive or meaningful.

Your first post as a member here is a complaint about an unfinished product. I'll throw out a big L O L at that.... The white textureless face is a glitch. It happens on menu screen to me sometimes. "I bought Standalone with the hope that hacking would be a thing of the past; we where told all loot would be spawned and controlled differently to previous mod incarnation's, that it would be server side, not client side." > No, you bought Standalone knowing it was only an Alpha and unfinished. Unfinished means they haven't finished everything. Its literally that simple. They haven't finished the server security functionalities. What's so difficult to understand about that? "What is not acceptable is what seems like Mr Halls failure to support a legitimate loot spawning system the covers the entire map and all players within it. not only that, but to add salt to the wound, we have no way to report or even identify any said hackers. You would think after the chaos of the mod, and the shear annoyance and time consumption it must have taken on the poor support team at battleye; you guys would have made this an evolving priority, and not released even an alpha; where surely you must have known scripting could be at least still possible." > Mr. Hall does support a legitimate loot spawning system that covers the entire maps and all players within it. Its not finished. Again...whats so difficult to understand about the "unfinished" part of its alpha state? Also...this IS an evolving priority. Have you read their recent "priority list" for upcoming features? Not release Alpha? because....its an alpha? I miss your logic. Because you're obviously new to the game, you may be unaware of a 'duping' ability some players are using to copy their body and double their inventory. If they don't hide the body other people will find it. It's not a script. It's not hacking. Its an exploit. A natural exploit that will be fixed. You ran into 3 quesitonable incidents in 1 hour and found it completely reasonable to join this site, complain about the game and its developers...all over 3 "questionable" encounters....in an Alpha game. *facepalm

I'm confident they govern the "decay" and "damage" factors by some global values. Perhaps they have it set too high. When you get shot, they could turn down the damage to items. It IS annoying, but realistic. I agree, however, that it is a little much currently. damn alpha!

I can appreciate the good intentions of your idea. Promoting team play is certainly a good thing, but it has to be done tastefully and carefully. Implementing a feature that requires players to perform actions "outside" the gameworld makes the gameplay drift towards the "arcade" category. Not much, but slightly. Point is > we, as a community of gamers, already have supremely overpowered communication functionality. It's called TeamSpeak, SteamChat, or Ventrilo. In the spirit of sticking to its "simulator" roots, it would be counterproductive to its very existence to implement "arcade"'-like features. Virtual nametags in a realistic suvival simulator pretty much breaks the rules of...well...being a simulator. We're already given the benefits of communication via external programs, which is, to be fair, completely overpowered from a gameplay perspective. That being said...since we have the luxury of external communication programs then the identification of your teammates out in Chernaurus shouldn't be something you struggle with. "Hey, I'm wearing a green hat and a blue shirt, ok man?" "Okay dude" /end discussion

Well said, great points. I, too, enjoy Dean's paradigm of "not forcing players to adopt a specific playstyle". Lone wolves, bandits, heroes...etc all have a place in the zombie apocalypse.
-
Very good point man. I thought about that. From my understanding...correct me if I'm wrong...3rd person is available solely to make up for our "limited" FOV in-game. IRL, we have like 180 degree FOV, in-game is much lower. That being said, I would suggest it only apply to 1st person view. It would affect your visual capacity to look down sights, binoculars, ACOG scopes, etc.
-
On the Thermal issue....you have a valid point. However....I would come back at you by pointing out that thermal binoculars would, as you say, require a spotter if you plan on shooting someone. This is the direct opposite of the previous incarnation of thermal capabilites in the mod, which allowed you to use your thermal scope and shoot at the same time. NOW...you can only use them to survey, standing still, weapon down...even if you had a spotter...hey, thermal binoculars would be a team-building exercise! I think the balance is NV binoculars and Thermal binoculars...not something you can use as you move around and shoot..which is OP.

True 7.1 with DayZ - Arma2
DKR replied to christian-oo@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
It helps to have 5 speakers in each ear, like mine. :P Some are better than others. Hard to find good ones. edit: I'm not familiar with that model, or brand really. Without trying to insult your intelligence...you have them hooked up correctly I assume? lol I can only suggest my Tritton headphones, as they're the only ones I have had any experience with. I can vouch that 5.1 is supported, so if 7.1 isnt support for whatever reason, you'll at least have 5.1 Nice choice in headphones, btw OP -

Does this zombie fella bear resemblance to someone many of us know?
DKR replied to a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You are not hallucinating, but you are suffering from impaired judement. You're playing WarZ. -
What clothing will YOU wear???
DKR replied to m.w. vindicator's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Considering how authentic skirmishes can be, you won't find me wearing a yellow hard hat, or a nifty cowboy hat, or brightly colored running shoes, or a jean jacket, or even a pretty red dress. Personally, I won't "accessorize" my character. Good luck staying out of sight with a big cowboy hat, or a big black trench coat. It's a mlitary simulator with a zombie twist to it. You'll be spotted rather quickly in that apparel. Cowboy hat and black trenchcoat = fashionable and fun...........but dead. Camo outfit and boots = utilitarian, sensible, advantageous......and alive. -
Has the DayZ Mod come to a stall?
DKR replied to FinalNinja447's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Stalled mod? perhaps. Are you not having fun with it anymore? Or tired of the content? Then you're just ready to move on to another game. No prob. Join a private server with custom content. It'll put some jive back into your step. -

Humongous map. Realistically designed road system and authentic cities. If there aren't a plethora of vehicles, then this map is unbearable.
