Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
frankforsyth replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I loved Dallas idea of Chernarus Plus in winter (and that would be really great survival), i would like to see spring version of Chernarus (since it practically exist in edited form as Bystrica). And maybe, some time later complete year-cycle! Fall and spring textures are done, winter ones are not so hard to make, even falling snow is present in original Arma. It needs only a good mixture of all of these. -
Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

Addon 'dayz_code' requires Addon 'dayz_equip' Error at start up
frankforsyth replied to sammybusby's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Make sure that you have all files neccesary to run DayZ and they are not in @dayz folder, but in addons folder which is within @dayz folder. Beta patch is also required for most servers, you can get it here: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php Also, you have to launch arma with mod (you will be able to see it in game main menu->extensions) -
I understand decision about waiting for release 1.7.3, but I still don't like that radio silence. DayZ community is like restaurant of hungry people that alredy ate their soup and now they are waiting for main meal. I think they don't want to get it right away, they rather great meal than fast food. But on other side, they would like to know if chef didn't kill himself in process of skinning deer and if cannberries finnaly arrived into kitchen, so he can make sauce from it. And they want to know how long will it take to get away all those ants and bugs from tables and from salad. We need some waiter to ensure us that even if things are not ideal, staff is doing everything they can to satify customers, and that would show us which steps are made to ensure it.

For me don't getting attached to gear means that when you get good gear, you start to play safe and start avoiding, because you don't want to lose it. Then you get rid of all those great experiences.

One character name ~ DayZ standalone
frankforsyth replied to CerebralZombie (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes. I like that idea. It can be handy in lot of situations. -
Maybe this will make you happy: http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/08/30/lets-play-dayz-day-6-with-dean-hall-dogs-and-the-next-big-update Rocket directly mentioned that there will be reworked crossbow and he would like to add bow.

Why Bandit skins are a terrible idea.
frankforsyth replied to RaxUK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Easy. People in real zombie apocalypse wouldn't soot each other. It's not crysis of type - there is only XY cans of food and you need to survive as long as you can. It's just game. It's shooter, so people would not KoS each other. This game mechanics could solve issue about new spawners in Cherno and Electro KoS each other because they are paranoid. In military areas as Stary Sobor, rules will be always KoS and nothing will change it. And I have no problem about it. Thirdly, why not KoS when It's easiest way to survive? Because this game is not just about surviving. It's about all kinds of untexpected encounters and experiences, made by interacting with other people. Removing bandit skin made the game experience poorer. Return of skins has potential to enrich dayz experience again. It's a big tool. It's not perfect in all its aspect but it seems to be working in its general purpouse. I don't want to convince you not to KoS, you can do everything you want, I don't care. Unless you are shooting survivors in Cherno and I meet you. -
Why Bandit skins are a terrible idea.
frankforsyth replied to RaxUK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you played dayz before removal of original bandit skins, game was really different back in those days. It's only about people's behaviour. Back then they were not all friendly (and most people i was killed by were survivors, not bandits), but you could enter Elektro and find group of friendlies in office building, help you with some basic equip and talk before you went inland. As a bandit, you were outcast (and I was for a little while), thrown out from society, unable to make friendly contact - if you hadn't any group, game was really lonely. After removing bandit skin and global chat, all social part was gone. Everyone started acting as bandit in order to survive. That means no contact with strangers and shoot on site or avoiding (which was still the more dangerous option). Game completely changed and I think most people will agree with me - to worse. Still if you don't like the change, you can have camo/ghilie on you, so bandit skin is no inevitable. Bandit skins are not realistic, but KoS isn't realistic either and I think it make good balance in the moment. -
When Rocket said we could modify our guns in the standalone...
frankforsyth replied to DannyFilming's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think weapon adaptations will go accordingly to Arma 3 inventory. So, you can attach different sights and accessories. That will be pretty much it. But i like this pony stuff. -
It depends on server, because now is losing sfuff in swiming disabled by default. But some servers re-enabled it. You just need to test it on each server you play.
-
Not bad ideas, but I disagree with three of them: Camo clothing: What percentage of soldiers in post-soviet countries have kevlar vest packed up on top of clothing? I say minimum. Camo is good as it is. Jumpsuit: How much faster do you work in your work clothing? For me its about the same. Same applies for hunter dress. Clothing simply can't affect your skills. Keep it realistic, that's what is dayz about.

Try the launcher or google some other solution (there is something about setting parameters of launch in shortcut or .exe file), but I don't know almost anything about it. And same thing can be applied in steam (so, if you don't have it from there, you can add it as non-steam game).

Potential Graphical Artifacting Fixes
frankforsyth replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I must sadly say that same thing happened for me. Glitches are back, they are a little different (mostly they are semi-transparent) and not so obtrusive, but solution is not permanent (ATI 4850) -
I have no idea how you start arma with dayz in default, there are lots of ways to do it. The slower one is to get in game, click expansions, disable dayz and game will restart without using dayz mod. I personally use Alpinestars Arma 2 launcher, but I'm arma veteran using lots of modes, so I need to enable or disable them often. But there are more ways to do it

Average Life Expectancy up to 65 minutes

Counter wasn't prepared for this crazy option! -
You need to disable dayz to play OA

Looting tents is even good for the game. Many people (yeah, including me) just stack all those items in tents, so they have best equip even after they die. The game is so boring for them then, so safe. So, if you loot tents, think of it as a kindness for their owners. (Also, when I found some newbies tent with winchester and cans, when i have some looted weapon I don't like to use but it's rare, like SAW, i place it to tent sometimes.)

Potential Graphical Artifacting Fixes
frankforsyth replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just try to change the value to 6 cores, see what will happen. -
I guess that problem can be in applying lastest patches. It seems that you don't have pmc lite installed. After you install OA, you must install 1.60 patch and then 1.62. Then everything should be fine. Because 1.06 is not 1.60.
-
Ok, keep calm and explain in which particular point that pmc thing happen and then write what is it saying about pmc. Then we can move from there.
-
No worry. You need only CO, then patch 1.62, after it you can install beta, than Dayz and you are free to go.
-
There could be no armours in castle ruins, they were looted at least 400 years ago and no armour spawns from then. They can be in some Chernarussian museum... but there is not any.

Yeah, that's one of reasons I'm looking forward to standalone DayZ, because it will be forced to on in some way. I consider turning shadows off as the same meta-gaming as turning your gamma and brightness up. Shadow is pretty natural cover and it has it's use and me plus lot of people I know use them when moving from point to point and it piss me off that anyone can just turn them off, so your effort is completely useless. Actually, shadows have minimal impact on fps. You can turn them on normal (processed via CPU) or High (processed via GPU), depending which of these are less stressed in game. For my old ATI 4850 is the difference 3-5 fps. If you want to turn something off, it is anti-aliasing (disabling from low raised my fps by 12), but without shadows, game is much poorer. Don't spoil your experience :)
