Re-thinking melee weapons for the standalone.

I want to be able to do powerful attack with melee weapon straight from spriting. Something like holding an axe over your head and sprintin towards that other player, who is desperately trying to shoot you with his makarov, while shouting BANZAAAAII! Over Direct chat. -
NVG wouldn't be that much of a propblem if it wasn't so easy to come by because of all the duppers. I've never found a legit NVG in barracks or any place else. I've come a cross dozens of NVGs but all of those have been on guys with GPS and Rangefinders, obvious dupped gear.

pfffff everyone knows the book and the movie came before chernobyl. The game that loans from those is set to chernobyl though, and yes, when I first thought of post apocalyptic game set in Ukraine, Stalker!

ARMA3 will allow you to do this so it might just get into standalone DayZ.

Give Me a Reason To Kill Zeds

I mainly just avoid zeds like the next guy but sometimes, something just cracks inside my head and I go in full rampage mode. Had this happen recently, put 8 AKM clips in my inventory and proceeded to move down every zed that came for me in Zelenogorsk. When there was no more coming I just started shooting in the air until I ran out of bullets. It's good to let of some steam once in a while. -
Of course I expect things like zed's walking insides and D/Cing to be fixed in stand alone. I just remember the times me and my buddy used to crawl everywhere and avoid the zed's all together. Novadays it's just running through a town with train behind you looting everything as fast as possible and finally running through some house, out smarting zed's... Houses shouldn't be safe havens, they should be death traps.

I'm with OP on this one. Zed's speed is still ridiculous and the only way to lose them is to run through a building, up ther hill, down a slope or just shoot them. Reducing zed's speed makes the animations less buggy and actually hitting them a bit less pain in the ass. Of course you can't just reduce zed's speed and just call it a day. You'll have to tweak the whole system to get it work right. First of make zed's punching animation reach a lot further and not to make them stop in their tracks (I know they sometimesdo this run by hit but you can still safely run away from them). Second thing is to make zed's more slow, maybe just a little bit faster than player running with W pressed, but still lower than player using double tapped W to sprint. Thridly introduce exhaustion when sprinting (note this would only affect double tapping sprint so you could still travel by foot). Also make sprinting bit faster and normal running just a little bit slower to create more difference between them. So in conclusion we would have a system where the sprinting (double tapping W) would be only used in life threatening situations like zed chasing you. You could out run it for a while, maybe even get enough distance to hide, but you could only keep on sprinting for a minute or so and your aim would shake extemely for next 20 seconds making aiming really hard. Also zeds would gain you slowly if you would only run (one press of W) but a less slower rate than currently. Running would still be unlimited to allow people lacking vehicles to travel across Chernarus.

The point was about hospitals. Easy explanation is you've been in coma for couple of weeks like 28 days later or Wlking dead. And of course the gear you had would be determined by your spawn point. You spawn in hospital, only having some thin sheet covering your body with no gear (there is plenty of things to loot near those hospitals). If you spawn in the coast you could have a bit gear on you but not too much.

I'd like to see Saiga-12 rather than AA-12, would fit the setting much better. Saiga is even in the base game, so it would be just adding it to loot sheet. Hell, it would be even plausible find in civil areas since they actually use Saigas for hunting in Eastern Europe. Just make it rare civilian loot and we're good to go.

lol, thats actually the face paint scottish freedom fighter William Wallace wore in the late 13th century. Fun fact: He was executed in one of the most brytal methods ever practised by being hanged, drawn and quartered. Even famous plotter, Guy Fawkes preferred to just kill himself in the first part, rather than go through the whole process -
Camo Clothing or Ghillie Suit?

I'd say Ghillie, but only when away from big cities. When looting civilian clothes. If wearing special clothes around other players, you'll propably get shot (same with civilian, but special clothing seems to attract PKers little more) edit. Of course if you have bandit towel, wear any other clothing over it. -
Kind of same for me. First when I updated, I had humanity at 0 always starting out with that towel on my head, but it would change after playing a while. So I log in this one server and now my humanity is -945000, no idea why, haven't got any murder nor bandit kills, only +100 zed kills. Maybe it wasn't synched and it takes in account your previous lives? Maybe it is bugged?

After getting some fps drops in areas like Cherno, I put my shadows to normal, instead of high. FPS raised significantly but I saw no difference in shadows between high and normal. Is this the thing Rocket was talking about, that setting some settings to lower, actually just puts them on CPU instead of GPU? Does anyone know, if any other setting handles the same way? I have a i5-2500k @4,4GHz so it's pretty capable in handling some of the work of my GPU.

So you're basically asking if I want DayZ to be more like STALKER? Answer is simple, no I don't. DayZ and STALKER are actually already pretty similar in terms of gameplay and atmosphere, if I would have been to explain what DayZ is couple months ago, I would have said "kind of like multiplayer STALKER". So now that DayZ has grown more of it's own game I'd like to see it grow even further. If I want to play STALKER, I play STALKER.

Just talk about it, spent about 2 hours chasing an imaginary helicopter from Kamyshovo to Gvozdno. Endet up founding a pickup with L85 and M14 in it instead, fine by me.

Dogs as Detectors of Humanity

Well, I was mainly expanding on the idea of dogs being used as a detector of humanity as growling to those low humanity players. So dogs wouldn't feel comfortable around bandits. But more I think of it, I can really see people preferring animal companion instead of human one, since dog would never stab you in the back. I see a new breed of bandits, who do not trust other survivors, but still value an animal companion. I mean even Hitler had Blondie (german shephard, naturally) so I therefore change my opinion on the subject. -
Loving 1.7.2.5, awesome additions/fixes, I am most impressed.

I found a heli crash and since now I can actually hit those zeds, I just went full rambo and shot about 30 of themfrom 100 meters. Well then I found out the hard way that ammo refilling has been fixed and had to survive with 5 mags with 2-6 ammo in each. This ought to reduce the amount of snipers in Elektro, I think. -

I'm seeing it as a punishment for those playing as bandit, merely just reward for those who decide to help others and not to kill everyone they have on their sights. This would also go well with dogs growling on low humanity players, that was the original idea of this thread, since dogs can sense if you're a bad guy, they won't team up with you. And dogs would also fit in more with the play style of 'good' players, who refuse to shoot on sight, since it would give them some leverage in CQC situations. They wouldn't shoot because they don't act like that and the opponent wouldn't shoot because of the big ass dog they would get attacking them if they would. -

One thing I'd like to see in addition of this would be the dog attacking said player if he were to shoot you. Like you're running around forest with your dog, hunting, when suddenly you are face to face with another survivor. You both aim your weapons at each other, holding your breath, with only the low growling of your dog breaking the silence. Then suddenly the other guy takes shot at you, breaking your leg. Your dog immediately attacks the hostile player, giving you enough time to recover and finish that bandit of for good. Another idea I had was that dogs would only team up with highl humanity players. This would give another reason to not shoot everyone straight in the face and the dog would make it easy to spot friendly players and it would make you think twice about attacking them at close range, because then the dog might just kill you. -
L85 AWS ain't really an issue, atleast when duping gets fixed. I have 200+ hours in DayZ and just yesterday I found my first L85 from heli crash and believe me, I've seen those in my time. Infact L85 is propably the only good way to counter those camping snipers novadays (been that sniper, got shot by someone with L85 AWS). When duping gets fixed, snipers get more rare and when there is less snipers there will be less people hunting them so if you manage to become one of those rare snipers, you will have less opponents.

AS50 TWS (hacker found dead)

I was one of those assholes sniping in Elektro, spawned on server and the textures weren't properly loadet at first (white gun ie.) and I spottet someone sniping in front of me because of this. Shot him in the back whit my AS50 and he dropped dead, went to loot his body and what should I find: AS50 AWS, NVG, Coyote bag, GPS, Rangefinder etc. Was definetely a hacker, some russian maybe, name was cyrillic and server had side chat enabled so I just quickly looted the body and D/C because the said hacker ranted something to his friends in side chat (was getting worried since they were obviously hackers, well atleast the one I killed). So I logged to another server t find that AS50 AWS and NVG were missing since I left the server too quickly. After that karma was a bitch and I got myself killed after going up north to find some action, killed by sniper in the bushes of course. So I respwned and made my way up north eventually finding L85 AWS, never had had the weapon before so decided to give it a go. Couple days later I'm again fully geared, but now instead of sniping fresh players, I use my time to locate those said snipers, much more intence. -
Ammo spawns and there rarity.

Maybe make military weapons' ammo spawning less frequent but make ammo boxes to spawn more frequently but only to locations like barracs and military camps (maybe heli-crashes). That way you know where you could get ammo but the number of locations ammo boxes spawn would make them higly dangerous to go and if you were to go alone, you would have to hoard as many clips as you can. This would also make snipers to have to do frequent trips to the north in order to get some ammo, making them vulnerable during the trip (AS50 ain't too good in close quarters in barracs). -

I'd say no to FAMAS, even though I like the weapon, I can't see it fit in DayZ's setting. As stated many times before DayZ needs more eastern weaponary, less western. And taking in account DayZ's back story, french didn't participate in containing the virus in Chernarus. If we were to see someone besides brits, yanks, russians and locals in DayZ, I'd prefere it to be germans (just to get the old bandit skin back :( )
