Nice pics, dawg. I saw you that one time at the airfield with a survivor buddy. I wanted your NVGs but somehow my bullet hit your buddy who had a m4SD. Then you disconnected, bastage. GIMME UR NVGs. Also, whoever the guy with the m24 is in your crew, he gets +1 coolness. :)

lol dude - you need to not make threads about this hahaha. I'm pretty sure they're not reading the forums anyways if they're IN the server lol. Sorry but prepare for the wrath of the community on this thread.

Every game has this topic: Females?
acebane replied to codeine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think what Paris is trying to say is: the fact that most female characters in game, if added to the mod, would probably be male players. So it would make no difference of how we approach the female skin player. Not to mention, IDK about you but it'd be pretty hard to identify the womanly face from 25 meters away if not more. The only way you'd know the skin was a female is if the actual model had a different shape. But that's opening a WHOLE can of worms of animations/models/blahbalbha. So yeah, as many have said, might be a nice option down the line but for now, there's more zombie-pressing matters. -
We need a solution to server restarts!
acebane replied to james2464's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
idk if it's been said only 100000 times but it's an Alpha Mod. Sit back, relax, enjoy Day Z experiences. There WILL be bugs/Exploits/Problems. Most of the time, game/mod developers do CLOSED alpha/betas for BUG TESTING. By opening up the Alpha to the entire community, you must understand that even if everyone can play it, our primary role atm in playing it is for bug exploration. If you don't have the mental/emotional capacity to deal with bugs an alpha, I recommend you wait until the mod is finished completely before playing. There's only one way to find out your huey/tents/cars don't get saved and that's by getting them and losing them. Thanks for your contribution despite your sour tone. I've personally had this happen today myself. Restarted the server, all my tents/cars gone. Restart the server a 2nd time and suddenly they're all back. I'm sure the Day Z mod team is hard at work to fix problems/bugs. Now while they're busting asses after work with their FREE TIME on this mod, the least you can do is be patient and not make threads like this. You have a bug? Report it via the bug report. Complaining about lost items in an alpha is pointless (I'd imagine when the mod moves to beta/is finished, they'd do a character restart or something). I admit, without the ability to save tents/cars/hueys, the mod may seem a bit "pointless"(as you say). But just enjoy playing it with your friends while Day Z mod team gets this baby fixed and ready to go. Enjoy your FREE ability to test/play the alpha of this mod. It's a high honor to test such a quality mod. See you in the beta. Edit: Oh also, if you die with the character you put the tent down with - I think you have 1-2 days before it despawns. Meaning you cannot pack it back up on a new character, so keep that in mind when using tents. -
Too bad, was looking forward to scrapping them. I get tired of having to shoot everyone on sight because they'll do the same to a person using a bandit skin. Not to mention, with the self-defense occurrences happening, it seems strange to me to continue punishing players by making them bandit skins. If players could defend themselves without a hit to humanity, might not be so bad. But in the current state, defending yourself makes you a bandit, which makes you into an even bigger bandit (because you have to defend yourself from survivors shooting you on sight now) and it's just a nasty cycle. Either kill more or keep dieing until you're a survivor again.

You're an admirable server host, Lofty.

I OFFICIALLY love you. Thank you so much Rocket!

Oilman while you mention it... WHAT THE HELL CAN I HAVE SOME HISPANIC MODELS? I don't wanna use middle eastern face skins! I want my Hispanic faces! ...just saying. I think it's more geared toward arma 2 devs though, not so much Day Z.... -

Granted, I don't mind the idea of having female faces included in Day Z - but it'll just end up with a bunch of dudes becoming "Superhotbabexoxobandito". Original Poster, I highly doubt there's a way to make it so you can only play a female if you're a female IRL (agh, I can already see the knight in shining armor act arising from this in sidechat. "u need help, girl? I help u cuz u girl."). So the purpose of female models, in the context of the OP's wishes, would never be fulfilled unless there was some ridiculous system in place to gather ur personal info/sex. In which I think would be a bit much. I think female gamers oughta be just fine with male models in a mil-simulator. Props to them for picking up such a game to begin with. TL: DR - no way to force males to NOT play female characters. Concept is doomed from the start. Not a bad idea to have the option for female models though (even though 95% of them are dudes) as it'll add some diversity between the PMC male face models. PS. Please Codeine, I know keeping the human race going is important and all but there's no reason to mention it here in Day Z's context lol. You're NOT going to be cybering with a chick to keep the race going, it's just not happening. So let's stick to the general purpose for female models in arma2 and not their reproductive abilities :p. -
US9 locked for personal farming and PvE
acebane replied to Boss (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well in a sandbox environment, each server is it's OWN environment. Granted yes, you can switch servers and have your character intact but all the vehicles/tents on the server stay there. So for admins to lock servers and go around collecting loot/vehicles while the server is locked means that no one can rival them for the supplies, thus rendering this survival and scavenging for loot aspect of the mod completely useless. This means they can temporarily disable players for their own gain. When the players are allowed back on, the admin now has 50% of the cars on their server/environment while the other players are in essence, ass-out. I started playing on Gabriel's (AKA Dorak) Server, EU 7 and I got a car and tent there (He's raging in his post because I made a thread about this before and GABRIEL NOT HAPPY. GABRIEL RAGE). As you can see, he thinks just because he bought a server that he has the rights to lock the server at any time. YES HE DOES HAVE THE RIGHT. But the point of DayZ is this persistent world where danger is never very far away. The second he locked his server, all that danger went out the window (minus zombies lolz). Now little Gabriel can scavenge without any worry in the world. I made up my mind to switch my "base" to another server considering this is ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR for admins now. Sadly I couldn't take the car with me. Today as I was going to get a car working, I was shot and killed. Boo hoo, so sad. But apparently if I want to get a car working without any danger, all I gotta do is buy a server and lock it up at any time I want because I bought it. Invite a couple of my friends, sit on the airfield farming it with some buddies on my personal server. Woot woot. Then when I got a chopper/couple of cars and good guns, sure let's open up the server so we have people to wreak havoc on. Feels good to be an admin. Dayz Dev Team, I've sent you a PERSONAL 3 page report about this abuse to your email yesterday. I hope you read this thread and consider my words again. Server admins needs a checks and balances system. They shouldn't be able to lock a server at any time, unless you want your mod to be played in a way it wasn't meant to be played. This mod attracted many people because of survival of a zombie apocalypse with the fear of other players. You allow the admins to take out the other players whenever they want, you in essence ruin the mod's original feel. I hope you read Gabriel's post and take into consideration your player base. Do you really want that power-hungry admin to rule his server/environment in such a way because he paid money? -

acebane replied to Boss (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Apparently it's PERFECTLY FINE for admins/server hosts to do this. Take a look at this thread: dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1364 Griff just closed the thread and said "Curious admins, mystery solved." So yeah, it's cool dawg. Admins can do what they want. Even if they're pretending to be "TESTING THE MOD". This is only the like 6th thread of this kind of thing happening. There's not much the common player can do about it. Suppose just wait for a thread lock and be on your way, gents. P.S. Testing the mod entails repairing a chopper/car to see if it works without bugs. Coincidentally you get to keep the asset you were testing out after your done doing your "testing". Funny how that works. P.S.S. Testing should ONLY be done by Day Z Dev Team, not random server admins/hosts/friends. DayZ Team already does their own testing so there's no reason for people do their own "personal testing". -

EU-7 Got kicked and now Locked with 6 people
acebane replied to Grey2ham's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hey, I was on that server too! Dorak isn't necessarily the nicest guy as I can remember (had a disagreement earlier with him), although locking the server when I have my tent/valuables there is not acceptable. Especially if it's not for testing purposes. I can understand if Rocket was in there too, but it looks to be just Dorak and his buddies. It's been locked for approximately 15 minutes or so now and the same individuals that he didn't kick are still in there with him probably scavenging airfield. I'm pretty sure he forced the restart on his own and then started kicking people when they tried to enter, me included. Above is a screenshot of the server being locked as proof of the event and if you click on it and zoom in, you can see the names clearly there: Dorak, Eystein, Khalimerot, Konoro, Tiri, Toto0o0o0o. -
I wonder what secrets were hidden from us in the changelog of this magical patch..... tricky rocket is tricky.

Yes Scrap them. Bandits wouldn't dress up like a bandit or else they'd be out of business. I'd imagine they would try to blend in with the "norms" that way they can easily deceive/steal.

Awesome. Thanks!

Date/Time: 4-30-2012/1:30 AM Central What happened: I was running and found a military soldier. I killed him and picked some m24 rounds. Then my humanity went from 1980 to 2040 and this caused the screen to go back to "retrieving character data".(I was a bandit at the time, but turned into a survivor) I couldn't do anything, although I could hear my gun reloading with the screen up. I aborted, then rejoin and I had the survivor skin now but I lost EVERYTHING in my pack and my primary weapon/ammo (CZ Hunting Rifle). I'm not 100% sure but talking to an admin of the server, he told me that whenever you turn into a bandit or you change back into a survivor, this occurs. You lose your primary and everything in ur backpack. Where you were: On a hill south of NW Airfield What you were doing: Running *Current installed version: 1.5.2 *Server(s) you were on: EU 4 *Your system specs: Intel Quad Core CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 6 Gigs of RAM AMD ATI HD 5770

I wanna be violent towards the original poster...... I'm SO SORRY Developers that there's even threads like this. It's insulting to devs who let the MASSES play their ALPHA for free and then receiving complaint after complaint. It's an ALPHA people.. Jesus, most of the time developers don't let people even TRY IT in sizable numbers until they get to the beta. Doing a good job Devs, we support what you're doing and thank you for letting us play the alpha of this awesome mod. -
Just saying, this mod would suck without PVP. If you ask me, there SHOULDN'T be a bandit skin. Because IDK about you bandits, but if I were a bandit, I'd deceive people by dressing/looking as friendly as possible. No one is really gonna wear torn clothes, a spiked helmet and throw on a dynamite belt. But the developer hooked people up, the people who don't like PVP, with players now getting the bandit skin. So Congrats on that. Although to say "YOU ARE A PKER!!!" Uhm, yeah. Everyone IS and WILL be. If they won't, they'll die and be on these forums again. You need to kill to defend yourself from other bandits, believe it or not, bandits CAN BE normal players just like you. Only difference is they had to defend themselves and they won. Please, for the love of god, stop complaining about PVP. Granted, yes it sucks getting killed when all you have is a stupid makarov - but it's the way it is in the apocalypse. How do you think people will be IRL if an apocalypse DID happen? You bet your ass it'd take the same evolutionary steps this mod has. Start off friendly and nice, everyone helps. OH NO, SOMEONE KILLED SOMEONE.. Then eventually everyone is wary of everyone. Granted, it wouldn't be so common to see "Bandits" or people who kill others for their loot IRL but we're dealing with a sandbox environment on one region. It's the way it is. To give repercussions for PVPing (or as the title says, "random murder"), not only is it unsound, I don't think there is a way to do that. As it's been said before, the bandit skin and the fact that ppl pretty much shoot you on site is a pretty big repercussion already. In a zombie apocalypse, I'll use The Walking Dead series as my basis for this, people WILL kill people for what they have. There's nothing that "penalizes" those people in the walking dead for killing people, why should it here? This mod/game is not for the faint of heart. It's UNFORGIVING, it's BRUTAL and you will learn to be careful or else you'll die every time. Ps. Zombies are hard solo, specially if you get caught crawling in a big village. You're practically dead. IDK about you but I've had MANY close calls with zombies. All I'd say is add some spawn points in the forests and we'll be good.\ Edit: Very well said, B00ce

Why did you nerfed the loot percentage ?
acebane replied to drakenof's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Might I remind you - LOOT gets taken by PLAYERS. So when you complain about "OMG I SPENT 10 RL DAYS WALKING TO THE AIRFIELD AND I FOUND NUFFIN DER!!" Think about it, if this apocalypse DID happen, OBVIOUSLY the airfield would be looted by the first there. I wouldn't mind a little love in those other villages with a rare weapon here and there. But it's all about getting there first, grabbing what you want, and leaving before someone can take it from you. If loot constantly spawned for every sorry slow sap that walked up to the airfield, shit we'd all be geared out. "OH HEY, U NEW GUYS? GO TO THE AIRFIELD FOR AKS/M60s/M107s. HAVE FUN!" It's part of the mod and fun to actually SCAVENGE for gear. It makes you appreciate the rare weapons you get much more. Whenever I Find a map or an AK/mp5, I feel accomplished and ready for war. If I could find one of those in cherno or every time I went to the airfield 100% guaranteed, it wouldn't mean as much. TL DR Man up, get there first, take what you want. If you're too slow or someone beat you to the punch, feel free to kill them. Ladies and Gents, you're living in an apocalypse. Get over things being looted before you get there. Start scavenging in game and stop complaining on forums. Sidenote: First post and I gotta say, I LOVE THIS MOD! Developers, if you could ever use another brain on this mod or could use a hand. I'd be more than willing to help in any way I can. You guys are brave allowing an open Alpha and you're working SUPER hard with daily updates. This community appreciates it, even if they're whiny and complain sometimes.
