I hope they have. I'm not fond of tents and don't need a lot of guns, just a place to store extra ammo, clothing, food stuffs. I was using improvised packs (which made great hobo caches).
-
Farewell, improvised backpack-base. Ah, well. I suppose improvised caches weren't long for the world. Maybe something like them will make an appearance at some point. Now, I'm going to have to spend more time hunting a barrel.
-
Yes, but the point is, this isn't the place to report bugs. :)

This is so true!!Whenever I need something in Dayz, that is the time I can't find it anywhere. I spent days looking for a glow plug. Finally gave up and someone else got the truck (I'd previously been sabotaging their efforts while I looked by stealing the tires). Next day, found a glow plug.

You should report it in the feedback tracker - where you report bugs. Reporting bugs here may be good for discussion, but the devs won't see it.

To be clear, you said "camps," you didn't specify barrels and tents. Many people's camps seem to include piles of guns on the ground - this is impacting spawn rates for these items. If there are a ton of M4's and Aug's on the ground in someone's camp, they will not respawn at crash sites, etc...Weapons on the ground should really be cleaned up every 4 hours, at least.
-
In the sense that "stuff on the ground" impacts spawn rate, camps are, indeed affecting spawn rates. There have been tales already about camps with tons of guns lying on the ground and not despawning for days. This means those weapons count against the respawn.
-
There is a cleanup if nothing gets picked up... it doesn't stay forever. It will eventually swap it out for something else. I've seen that happen. It does take days, though - and that's fine.

Newp. It's actually based on a 1938 novella by John W. Campbell, Jr. called, Who Goes There? There were actually a few film adaptations of the novella, including The Thing from Another World in the 50's - Carpenter's is the best, in my opinion.
-
It's John Carpenter's The Thing!

Right outside the Cherno supermarket. ;)On a different note: I think weapons placed or dropped on the ground should persist like dynamic events - four hours and then they are gone.
-
I also don't think going entirely PvE is the way to go, but the E should be a factor in PvP. I found it hilarious during the mod days when PvP'ers would complain about how annoying the Zeds were. They should play a role, be a serious obstacle, in PvP. Their response to gunfire should be dynamic - to make it interesting, but they should be a real danger in PvP... not merely an annoyance. That is another way to curb some elements of KoS... "I could take this shot, but I may get my face chewed off as a result." That should be a serious consideration.
-
The assumption here is that it is black or white - KoS or no kills. There are ways to get into a gunfight that don't require that you KoS. KoS is the easiest interaction in the game because there is no real interaction. I think making ammo rare is a good idea and will likely cut down on KoS. KoS could also be cut down by the experience gains Hicks described in one of his presentations. If dying means you lose - not just gear, but, say, stamina, gun sway recovery, bandaging efficiency, etc... this will make the character more dear. This is what the devs are trying to get to: a point at which the player cares more about keeping his character alive.
-
Status report said 3 days for backpacks and it will remain 3 days. And, currently, you have to actually pick them up to reset the timer - simply interacting isn't enough. The only thing that will shift to 7 days from 45 days is tents, barrels, ammo boxes, and protector cases. At that point, interaction will be enough to reset the timer.

They reduced the AI spawns all around - including animals. There are only a few zeds and animals on the map.

Now, this is an old video and may not be entirely accurate - it's a best guess, but it seems pretty close and gives a general idea of how loot spawning for the CLE works: https://youtu.be/R8X-mCBCusM

According to what I read on the DayZ Dev Team Twitter: "Also, hoarded items will not affect the CLE and will thus give us better data on the state of it."https://mobile.twitter.com/dayzdevteam/status/635838077563457536 The problem many new spawns will have is that the best place to find loot is where nobody has looked for it. As I understand it, when a particular item is picked up, there is no guarantee that an item will respawn in its place at that location immediately. Respawn aren't "pile" based as they were in the old system. If an item is picked up, the CLE is checked and that item will respawn at any open spawn location where that item can spawn on the map. You pick up a tire in Cherno, another tire will spawn in a shed in Lopatino - that kind of thing. It reduces farming and gets people roaming the map. You pick up an AK at the NWAF and another one may spawn in Zelenegorsk. The game no longer cares if every building in Cherno is empty... it only cares that there are X number of items on the entire map. Makes the game more dynamic and unpredictable. It also explains why I haven't seen a tent in Dubky. ;) This will evolve as they get regions included in the calculation.

I don't know what to tell you. I've spent all day in Cherno and am full and stocked with all the basic gear I need to survive. Even found a combat knife back not long after I spawned in Komorovo. (hadn't seen one for a very long time.) So, luck always comes into play. But it's false to say there's no loot on the map. It's there. Just have to be thorough and lucky. I just passed a new spawn in Cherno and he's gonna have a tough time because I've checked pretty much every building and ate everything there. But, it was definitely there... I just happened to eat it all. So, that guy got dealt a bad hand. Nature of DayZ.But, even I have had a hard time finding some things - took me all day to find a battery, and a pen, the one piece of paper I found was bugged. Now, I'm on the hunt for a hacksaw - of which there are none in Cherno on this server at the moment - I know because I looked... either none were here or someone got it before me. Such is life.
-
Doesn't sound like you spent much time in any place considering the time it takes to bee line it to NWAF. Things are there if you look for them. Or, if you happen to have taken a popular route to NWAF, it was probably looted by the several other people making the same trip. I spawned in Balota and have spent most of my day there and in Cherno - this is on a pretty full server. It took a long time, but I'm energized and hydrated, got myself situated with an improvised satchel, a shotgun, a flashlight, a couple of batteries, plenty of food and water, cooking gear, raincoat, skater helmet, cargo pants, workboots and an axe. Came across and avoided two squads running through Cherno. This game is going to prove difficult for those who choose to run to the NWAF right away - I mean, it's an approach to the game, I'm not knocking it... but it's just going to be harder with the loot system now. This game now requires you to pretty much check every building you can. CLE is a game changer.

1. As far as I'm aware, persistence is no longer optional. 2. Items left on the ground despawn after a time (30-45 minutes, I think.) 3. All trucks spawn without a truck battery and glow (spark) plug - you need both. They spawn with fuel, enough to last a bit. 4. Many things are a luxury item now with the CLE in place. As with most things DayZ, it depends on luck. Some find items right away, others don't. I want a pen, for instance and in 10 hours of playing, haven't seen a single one... nor a single 9v battery. Others have found these easily. Nature of the beast. They will be tweaking things, but don't expect it to be easy... if it is, you got lucky.
-
Yeah, had a barrel, logged back in and it didn't stick. Thankfully, nothing in it.
-
Tire repair kit.Oh, and has anyone seen pens? In several hours of playing, I haven't seen a single pen. And, I actually want one. Also, haven't seen any 9v batteries, for that matter.
-
Yeah, not in your backpack. I'm only talking about in the truck. It may change at some point. Are you able to carry it with stuff in it?
-
Raincoat keeps things on your body dry. Things in your pack will get wet if you don't have a waterproof pack (Dry Bag, SN Tortilla). A few hard crashes for me - this last one I had to hard reboot my computer. Usually when driving. First time, spawned in again about 1km from where I crashed (where my truck was). A couple of thoughts on Trucks, tires and fuel cans. The size of either truck inventory or these other two things should be adjusted at some point. You should at least be able to carry a tire and a fuel can in the inventory. Also, I suppose it makes sense that you can't lift a filled barrel, but wow... makes transporting things a nightmare.

Yup. Just saw that option. Boy... the stupid stick hit me hard on that one... LOL. Thanks!
