1.7.7 Lack Of Antibiotics
entspeak replied to matthewlamonica's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't limit yourself to looking in the hospital. -
If that's the test server, I spawned in debug today on that server. On logging back in just now, I spawned in Electro.

You can totally still lose zombies in 1.7.7; it's just a bit trickier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggLXg96K9b4

Nope... not true.It should also be noted that line of sight is not completely removed... if you weave through enough trees close together or swing around a tree fast enough, you can still lose them. It takes more work, but it's not impossible. Nope... not true. They can now hit you instantly and aggro'ed zeds jump around you when they get close. You need to get really skilled with the hatchet to handle aggro'ed zeds in the open. I've been using a hatchet to kill zeds since the hatchet became a weapon and know my way around the zeds with a hatchet... these are harder to kill with a hatchet if you're in the open and they're aggro'ed. They aggro to the left or right of you when coming at you... and then you're hit before they even turn.Use the hatchet in "iron sights" when killing zeds, if you can, or zoom in... this will give you greater range with the hatchet. And kill crawling zeds before they make the animation to stand up. In this build, they start to stand and then are instantly up and you're hit. So, kill them before they get a chance to get up.

There are not only 6 locations to get antibiotics. I found 2 in a loot pile in a house in Stary, so... they spawn in residential areas all over the map. I have my opinions on the cooked meat mechanic... it's going more and more toward favoring teaming up. Even if you remove the diminishing returns, it's hard to get your blood up as a lone wolf because of the slow blood regen of food, the varying blood values of meat and, if you want to be prepared for a significant blood regen, you have to carry a lot of meat (which requires hunting... gutting... gathering wood... cooking) which takes significant inventory space and time. Being blood-bagged by a squad-mate takes 12 seconds and one inventory slot. So, I don't understand the whole diminishing blood regen thing... it seems a bit much to me. I'm all for slow regen of blood (I think it should also happen with blood bags... 12 seconds to administer and food blood regen pace to completely restore it.) But, that's just me.As for the zeds... they are in fact harder and a bit glitchy close-up, in my opinion. There are ways to deal with them... for instance, if you want to kill a crawling one, you have to do it before they make the animation to get up, or you will be hit. Best to deal with zeds before they aggro. If one is aggro'ing toward you, you might try charging it... I haven't tried this yet, but it's worked for me in the past... just better get that one hack in good. And, if you come across the dirtier, bloodier zeds, those are the ones with the higher infection rate, so deal with them carefully. After some initial trepidations, I'm learning to adapt. Hopefully, the nighttime behavior (they could see better than I could) will be addressed soon, if it hasn't been already.

DayZ 3d models and where to find them?
entspeak replied to Sgt Murica's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wow. Did not know that. I guess I was lucky to get them before they took down the links. I wonder why they did that and make no mention on their website of it. Weird. -
DayZ 3d models and where to find them?
entspeak replied to Sgt Murica's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Having worked with Modeling for Arma, I can tell you that even if you locate the file, it won't open in a 3D program because it's encrypted. There are Arma 2 models that BI released for free that you can use to create animations. You can find them at armaholic.com. -
Yes... also wondering if you're still looking for testers. I sent a PM and added R4Z0R on Skype... been about a week now, I think. Wireworld is fun and all, but they've also got other stuff of their own in there and would love a pure DayZ environment to test. Hate to be calling out bugs that may be related to changes they've made to their server.

I use a PS3 controller AND keyboard/mouse. For driving, I use a combination of controller and mouse... controller to move and mouse to look around. For flying, I use just the controller. It took a bit of tweaking to get the sensitivity right, but it works really well. For example, when driving, I have the Fast Forward set to up on the left analog stick, so I can creep along slowly (slower than Q speed) or jet down the street and any speed between depending on how much I push the stick forward - can't do that with the keyboard. I can make really minor adjustments and riding the moto is a blast. For flying, I have the rudders set to the analog buttons so I can make minor adjustments in the heli. And I look around using the right analog stick... Not as smooth as a mouse, but good enough. I don't use it for infantry/survivor movement. The transitions are jerky (especially when zigging and zagging) and there are too many options to make it practical. So, I use mouse and keyboard for that. Each has it's place in the game. I wish I could afford track IR - tried a free alternative and was disappointed... that would be a dream setup. But, I don't need it, really.

Minimum GFX settings PLEASE! - FAO Rocket
entspeak replied to irzero's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If the game allows people with crap systems to play, then that's the deal. It's not a matter of entitlement. If my computer couldn't play the game, I wouldn't. So, the issue is with the developer and not the gamer. I also think certain things should be locked: view distance, terrain at low, gamma and brightness. So long as a game gives a tactical advantage to turning things off, people will do it... it's lame, but that will only change if the developer changes it. -
I hope you don't think I was referring to you... I was responding to the original poster.

Facts are facts... it's an easy kill weapon, it's a one-shot disable/destroy for vehicles... while it may be realistic to have a 50 cal sniper rifle in, it's over-powered. It's out... time to get over it. I mean, you do realize you're the one whining here at this point, right? Some people have tried to engage you reasonably and you're just insulting. You can't call me a crybaby, I've never been guilty of the things of which you speak - I don't go strolling through Elektro without a care in the world and I've never been taken out by a 50 cal. I've simply stated the weapon is over-powered and has no place in the game... for the reasons I stated... reasons you've not refuted. You've stopped responding to reason and have simply fallen back on the same screed. You're trolling your own thread at this point... so... have fun with that. Wow... are you actually looking in a mirror as you write this stuff? Perhaps you should... go to the mirror and repeat the above sentence to yourself... and then, perhaps, you will be able to deal with this situation. And if all sniper rifles were being removed, you might have a point... but they aren't... so, you don't.

It's tough. I play on a Dell N4110 laptop - Core i3 2.1Ghz, Intel HD3000 and I get playable framerates at 720p... but nothing even close to great. I also get drops in cities sometimes... also sometimes in forests. One thing I did was to turn down the sound quality to 24... that seemed to help me in the forests... that and turning shadows off. On a low pop server, at night, I can sometimes play with shadows on... but I get artifacting and occasional FPS drops. But, I think your CPU may be the guilty party here.
-
And, 50 cals have been in the game since the start... you can find mention of them in the forums dating back to April of last year - so, there was no assumption made there. I love the AIM, too.
-
I don't know when what was added... what am I assuming? And, I've never been shot by an AS-50 or an M107. EDIT: after I posted this, onemean edited his post informing me that this wasn't directed at me. I'll assume this means he's got no response to my counter about his helicopter comparison.

I fail to see your point. In the normal version of DayZ - not the modified private hives, there are exactly two... two armed helis. The gunners can be killed with a winchester if in range of one and a good shot... not to mention, helis can be heard well before they have a target for the gunners to aim at. Apples and oranges, "buddy." Yeah, it's over-powered, an easy weapon to kill with and serves no purpose... so, why not remove it?
-
Your CPU is no better than an i3 and is most likely the cause of the low FPS. I don't know what your video settings are in game or what resolution you are playing at, but you might try playing at 1280x720. Considering the age of your graphics card, you might also try disabling shadows - if your card doesn't support Shader Model 4.0, shadows may be a problem and, as I understand it, the GTX 285 doesn't. Disable post-processing and turn off AA.
-
And... why do we need the .50 cal? To destroy heli's? Why? Certainly not to steal them, because most shots that damage a heli such that it comes down usually result in the destruction of the heli. The .50 cal allows you to kill someone by shooting them in the foot... not much skill required there. It's over-powered for DayZ and serves no real purpose. Can't say I'm a cry-baby about it - I've never been shot by one. Yes, you can reduce the ridiculous fire rate, the accuracy of hip-firing and firing in positions other than prone... but it still serves no real purpose in the game apart from the one-shot kill and the easy destruction of vehicles from more than a KM away... and it zeros out to crazy... again... it requires virtually no skill to kill with it and with hackers being so prevalent, making it rare is meaningless. So, to me, it is those whining about its removal that are the cry babies... let it go.

Disagreement between a friend
entspeak replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I showed a gamer friend of mine some 720p Youtube videos and his jaw dropped in awe. It is really a good looking game. A lot of games have that glossy, high HDR look... it doesn't look good to me. I wish I could play at higher settings, but I have a crappy computer and the only way I can get playable fps is by turning off the shadows, post-processing, and AA. My settings are a mixture of low, normal and high and I play at 720p. Still looks pretty good. -
No, I don't agree. Yes, getting more screenshots and videos would be fantastic, but no... I don't think they need to be doing more in terms of releasing screenshots and videos. We already have more access to screenshots and videos for a standalone video game that isn't even released as an alpha than most - if not all - other games currently in development. I don't think that completing a trip that was likely planned well before the idea for a standalone even existed is "not taking your job seriously." Rocket has admitted that it was a mistake to unrealistically build up expectations with regard to release and threads like this are the reason why that's true... people get spoiled.

6 New decayed Zeds ? that's against what rocket said
entspeak replied to ponc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In my opinion, this doesn't fit in with the DayZ mythos of the infected. Lose an arm or leg, you bleed out and die - infected or no... unless you have someone to stop the bleeding and sew you up... and, somehow, I don't think the zeds have a health plan. ;) -
Input : 1x Wood Pile, 1x Scrap Metal, 1x Box of Nails Output : crossbow pin sight Tools : Toolbox, Hunting Knife, DIY Pin Sight Blueprint. FailChance : 0.20 Enhancements : Adds a pin sight to the crossbow for better accuracy. ActionType : attachment.

6 New decayed Zeds ? that's against what rocket said
entspeak replied to ponc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A zed that's lasted longer will have more of the bacteria in their system, they will be MORE under the control of the parasite/virus. They would likely be MORE vicious, more aggressive, less affected by pain. The aim of an infection like toxoplasmosis is to alter the behavior of the host in order to facilitate the spread of the infection and the survival of the parasite/virus - in this case making the host aggressive and driven to eat human flesh, thereby allowing the infection to spread. It isn't really a degerative disease in the sense that we view other degenerative diseases. It's like it re-tasks the host. In other words, zed behavior is a survival mechanism of the infection. Perhaps, "decayed" is the wrong word, but it is just a description, after all. Maybe "Stage 2 Infected" would be a better descriptor. Ultimately, what they're called makes little difference. I agree that I wouldn't enjoy Romero/Walking Dead style zombies. They may be good for single player/small online team play... but they'd be way too easy in a MMO style game because you couldn't have the numbers to make them a real threat. -
This post used to contain a bad idea... I deleted it... :)

This is a complex recipe for a Pistol Crossbow... (requires crafting pieces before final product can be built) Input (1x wood pile) Output (1x pistol crossbow stock) Tools (Toolbox, Hunting Knife, Pistol Crossbow Blueprint - see image, above) FailChance 0.05 Enhancements = none ActionType = weapon crafting. Input (2x Scrap Metal) Output (Pistol Crossbow Trigger Mechanism) Tools (Toolbox, Pistol Crossbow Blueprint) FailChance 0.50 Enhancements = none ActionType = weapon crafting. Input (1x Wood Pile, 1x Scrap Metal) Output (1x Pistol Crossbow Cocking Mechanism) Tools (Toolbox, Hunting Knife, Pistol Crossbow Blueprint) FailChance 0.10 Enhancements = none ActionType = weapon crafting. Input (2x Scrap Metal, 1x Wire Fencing) Output (1x Crossbow Limb) Tools (Toolbox, Pistol Crossbow Blueprint) FailChance 0.30 Enhancements = none ActionType = weapon crafting. Input (1x Wirefencing) Output (1x Pistol Crossbow String) Tools (Toolbox, Pistol Crossbow Blueprint) FailChance 0.05 Enhancements = none ActionType = weapon crafting. Input (1x stock, 1x trigger mechanism, 1x cocking mechanism, 1x limb, 1x string, 1x scrap metal) Output (Pistol Crossbow) Tools (Toolbox, Pistol Crossbow Blueprint) FailChance 0.10 - However, failure should only result in the breaking of one the pre-requisite crafted items (selected at random). A person shouldn't have to start completely from scratch. The idea is that a piece wasn't made big enough, or made too big, or broke during assembly. Enhancements = none ActionType = weapon crafting. Still working on the final touches on the model for this (been incredibly busy with work and life). I also am working on models for the individual pieces (like the trigger mechanism). Was working on this originally for DayZ 2017, but always thought it would be cool if it could be a crafted weapon... and they don't have crafting implemented yet and stated they weren't looking to add new features to the mod.
