Who is loving the new update for Namalsk?
Shadow Man replied to Sgt. Vanluven's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is what I was afraid of. People have become so used to DayZ the way it was, that changes are being complained about. Many people seem to give the impression that the bloodsuckers and EVR are an inconvenience and that that its getting in the way of playing the game. Dealing with those things is exactly what playing DayZ is meant to be. You have woken up on a freezing island and you have to survive. There are zombies, blood suckers and occasional EVR whatevers that could kill you, now go and suvive it. Maybe they could do with some refinement but not removal. Its time to stop thinking about looking for players to kill and start finding a way to survive. If thats not what you want and you just like pvp, then go play wasteland. DayZ is about survival. -
Standalone Humanity Suggestions...
Shadow Man replied to hellsadvocate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No I'm not. Because I never play as a bandit I don't want them to have the advantage. The game needs to be made so that banditry is not the easiest way to play. But the skins are not the solution. Bandits should have no direct advantage, but the fact that all it takes to end another players game is one bullet with little consequence, compared to a friendly survivor who has to avoid all the bandits, means they naturally will have an advantage. So far the most obvious solution is better zombies. If there were zombies dotted about everywhere then snipers would have to think harder about alerting a horde before firing. -
I like the bean bag ammo idea. Could cause you too be winded/concussed resulting in being unable to stand and allowing very slow movement. Would be nice to see the effects of being knocked down/winded depicted as if in real life. You would be able to use a pistol although your aim would be terrible. Also makes me thing of internal injuries as an idea.

Standalone Humanity Suggestions...
Shadow Man replied to hellsadvocate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No it means that perks make you artificially better. The more you shoot people in game the better you will get at it and the better bandit you will be. If you spend more time as a bandit you will learn how to make it work for you, but you will not be as good at being a friendly suvivor as someone who always plays as one. -
An interesing video showing what admins can do. This is not intended to make people suspicious of admins. But as you will see, in the wrong hands... (Not my video)

I like to use Shadow because I'm a bit of a loner and like to use stealth and keep out of sight. Most of the time "Shadow" is taken so I add stuff to it. The forum picture is a silhouette (a bit like a shadow) of a man. Hey presto. Oh, and I am a man too.

how do i tell where i am on the map?
Shadow Man replied to deuce123's topic in New Player Discussion
I'd like to see that removed personally. @around100 How would you know where you are on a real map? -
Play wasteland or use the arma 2 boot camp thing. There are cars everywhere in wasteland and you dont need a mod or anything.

Human nature I guess. People simply cannot resist being able to be better than others. Especially if those others don't know its being done by cheating. Since there have been computer games there have been cheats. Games magazines used to have whole sections devoted to cheats. Combinations of keys, secret words you type at a certain point. I remember playing Civilization 3 and using the cheat that gives you every tech just I could nuke everyone. It was fun, for two minutes until I realised that I wasn't actually playing the game. I may as well have had a cheat that displayed the "You've Won!" screen. And I've never used a cheat or exploit in any game since. People cheat in all aspects of life, like sport. Its about finding a way to a particular thing better than someone else. If that means doing something thats against the "Rules" then people will do it. The solution is to devise a way that means anyone playing (admin or not) cannot use these tools, because someone will ALWAYS abuse them. The tools need to be there to combat the problem, but not add to it. Don't ask how you do that though. On a private hive the admin could be some 13 year old who just got his own server so he can use the tools to cheat and make epic youtube vids. I now feel silly watching some vids on youtube where people are constantly finding multiple vehicles and always have as50's or thermal L85's with NVG's etc thinking it was all genuine and how amazing they were at spotting other players. In all honesty I have NEVER found an as50 in over 6 months of play. Maybe I was unlucky. Maybe not.

Making the game both scarier and more difficult.

I'm liking this alot. Randomly coming across a starving bear in the woods, or a pack of wolves. Night time would be very tricky. -

If it doesn't stop you playing how you want then whats it for? What I mean is, its just there to tell OTHER players something, which I find wrong. I think, at least for the stand alone, that skins like the bandit/hero skin should be got rid of. It should just be a case of you spawning on the beach half frozen thinking "I really need some warm clothes or I'm gonna freeze to death" or maybe "I need some decent boots cos these crappy trainers are going to give me trench foot". In the end we should be wearing the clothes we have found for ourselves. No artificial skins. No need for humanity. The jacket that guy is wearing will still be warmer than my thin shirt, even if it does have a bullet hole in it. BANG

Are you colour blind? I'm not, but from the little I know I thought it was differentiating certain colours from each other. Not how much colour. Yes, the colour loss is slight at first, but that makes sense. Its not critical yet. You know when you getting bad...

(Original)Standalone close quarters struggle...
Shadow Man replied to finkone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Button mashing of any sort is a big no from me. Its also unfair due to different ping times, not to mention potential lag issues. I think melee will most likely be used for stealth killing, or rush killing silently. Run as fast as possible zig zagging straight up to a player and slash their throat. -
To be honest I wouldn't mind if there was no indicator at all. @Challe How well can you see the colour drain from the screen as you lose blood? If you're able to see the difference between normal colourful vision fading into black and white then I'd say thats adequate.
-
@challe So in real life, if you have a deep wound in your leg, how do you know how much blood you have?

A simple set of zombie changes to make DayZ what we've all wanted it to be
Shadow Man replied to Blay Wayne's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have to admit that Dreygar has a point. The thing is, there are people playing who don't care about trying to survive. They are playing because they like to pvp with other players, whether those other players like it or not. I read somewhere on this forum that in the beginning the zombies were much harder, but because everyone complained the devs toned them down. Although I agree with the OP, its not going to completely solve the problem. The other reason this may not stop player killing is that if you look at all the youtube footage of group play, nearly all organised groups kill other players on sight. Maybe because they are a threat, maybe they'll give away their position. The only thing I can imagine that would reduce sniping and camping and killing on sight would be to make the simple act of a firing a gun suicide. For this to work there would need to be huge numbers of lethal zombies bearing down on you. There is a part of me that would love to try this out, but if I'm honest I think it may alter the game in unforseeable ways. The game has to be played for some time to really see the consequences of big changes. -
Simple as that really. You don't get a little message pop up in real life telling you if you hit someone, you have to go and check. Personally I hate the way every game becomes a bunch of statistics that if you don't know you at a disadvantage. This gun takes 2 body shots, that gun is one shot etc etc. If you fire at a player and he goes down. You wouldn't know if he is dead or playing dead or unconcious. So to drill a few more bullets in him makes others more aware of you location and also uses more valuable ammo. Or you could try and get close up for a silent knife finish(when implemented). Another reason to get rid of death messages is to take away the kill streak effect. The satisfaction of getting the little "naked gizmo was killed" message fuels player-killing in the wrong direction. If your gonna kill someone thats fine, just not if only to see another name pop up. People may argue that they don't kill to see that message. Yes, obviously its not that direct, but it is the first thing you look for when firing at a player isn't? And we all give ourselves a little cheer when we see it. I don't see why we should know who we've killed anyway. Especially if we've never met them.

stat tracking, statistics and more!
Shadow Man replied to Pixelwarrior's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The less stats the better when it comes to combat. If there are going to be stats it should be survival stats. To encourage players to stay alive and put more value into a characters existence. Characters are too disposable as they are now. -
Its an apocalypse, people get desperate and a little insane. Roll up, roll up, here we have a perfect condition as50. Two people. One revolver. One bullet. Who going first?
-
I never shoot on sight. I usually keep out of others players way because I usually die. Saying that, I'm struggling to see what there is to do in a "no pvp" server. Seriously, how long can you play just killing zombies and collecting loot?

promote walking (will be unpopular of a suggestion)
Shadow Man replied to SoWeMeetAgain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm all for a dynamic stamina system as long as it remains authentic. I'm not keen on artificially obscuring small objects because you're running though(if thats what you meant).
