  1. I think we all need to start trying to call the SA "DayZ" not "SA" and instead refer to the mod as "DayZ mod" or "The mod". As long as people specify that they are talking about the mod there is no need to use "SA" anymore. This will obviously take some time to filter through to everyone that talks about DayZ but hey, you gotta start somewhere.
  2. Couldn't be said any better than this really. DayZ mod has in fact become just this. There is also a big difference between pvp and player killing. People dont simply hate pvp, cod has taught us that. Its the killing for no other reason but to get kills and/or troll/grief other players that really stopped DayZ from being great. Going back to the OP, in a real life zombie apocalypse yes you would have people murdering others for survival, but its unlikely to resemble what happens in DayZ. In real life, people would be alot more useful alive as they would count for more firepower and could carry more supplies. Its also never a bad thing to have another pair of eyes around to keep a lookout. With regards to whether or not in real life zombies are less dangerous than humans, it completely depends on how deadly the zombies are. If there were zombies in real life like the mod has then as long as you hav ammo you're probably ok. However when you do run out of ammo what happens? You run indefinitely until you lose them. There are obvious problems when comparing a simulated game world to reality. Most notably the ability to respawn and run back to where you were, effectively granting you immortality with a slight penalty of a 10 or 20 min run. In real life you would never be so careless, running around town gunning down everyone you see. Until they put more value into keeping your character alive into the game, not much will change. Hopefully the DayZ SA will provide some of this.

    DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

That is quite possibly the worst philosophy for this game. If there was one thing I hoped that the DayZ devs would do, its to not cater for the majority or implement things because thats what the people are doing or wanted. Pvp is a part of DayZ, but it definitely should not be the definition. Personally, anyone who still thinks DayZ is purely a pvp game will be disappointed. Your point about the most popular servers being pvp servers may be true, but they have all been playing a mod, not the finished game. It did became pvp, but only because there is nothing else in the game. With the zombie improvements and all the survival elements, I honestly cannot see DayZ remaining so heavily pvp orientated. Saying it is a bad move to remove some pvp makes the assumption that the devs are only interested in the game being popular, which I don't think is true. They hope it will be, but Rocket has said that he wants to make it his way but if no one likes it then "Oh well".

    DayZ Devblog 22nd February 2013

Totally agree. If the response to the latest zombie improvements in the mod is anything to go by, there will also be a significant number of people who stop playing DayZ altogether. It seems that many have forgotten how to not shoot other players, and the result will be that they die very quickly to zombies. I doubt they will work out that they are better off if they don't look to solely pvp.
  5. Have just tried updating to the new 1.5.7.1 Also updated dayz commander. Managed to play on an official server, after a load of dickhead hackers started teleporting and controlling me I quit to find my AVG was warning me that battleye needed sending to the vault. I clicked ok and then re installed dayz commander only to be stopped by AVG again, this time saying dayzcommander.exe needs to go the vault. I haven't clicked yes or no yet. But I guess I could do a fresh install. If anyone else has had this or knows whether this is just an AVG mistake. Never really know with these things.

I found a can of mountain dew ...

I came across an invisible can of Dew in Elektro school. I was walking down the stairs from the second floor and it flashed up as an item to pick up, but I couldn't actually see it. I didn't pick it up. I had an overwhelming feeling of something bad happening if I did.

    1st v 3dp - zones

Well its a new idea which is good. Not sure how well it would actually work. What about sniper hill? What do you call ground level? The most obvious problem would be unexpected changing from 3rd to 1st. Bah! Just get rid of 3rd.
  8. Shadow Man

What is the problem of Dayz?

Hmmm.. I guess for me zombie behaviour is a big problem, also the inventory as it is in the mod. With regards to pvp ans kos, the only way players will favour a friendlier approach is if its the only way left to survive. Which won't happen I don't think. Unless the world is so punishing that the first thing you have to do is team up then you will always have lone wolf players killing others for sport.

    DayZ SA NEEDS basements (seriously)

That would only really work if a character was locked to one server. Otherwise you would just hop to another server and get someone to untie you or whatever. However... If you could trap people in your basement, that would indeed open up a genuine situation that you would need help to get out of. I guess just go on the forum and tell people where you're held. People would would swarm there to crash in and blow the guy away.
  10. It should really be an obvious consequence that getting drenched makes you cold. I'm thinking that once your clothes are wet then your temp will quickly start to drop, but crucially, you will need to either change your clothes and/or dry them to avoid cold related problems. Rain could you make your clothes wet if you stay out in it for too long without some type of waterproof jacket. Obviously swimming, but also laying down in shallow water like the swamp. You could dry your clothes by being near a fire of some sort, or you could even place them near a fire and leave them there to dry. The time taken to dry clothes is significantly less if you take them off. Lets hope you don't get attacked while half naked and end up running out into the woods with nothing but your undies! The effects of being wet and cold should be different to just being cold. For example heat packs should raise your temp less when wet compared to when dry and should dry your clothes say, 10%, meaning that once the heat pack is used up you will start to get cold again quickly. Times for drying clothes is debatable. Too quick and its going to be a tedious repetetive formality, too long and you'll be freezing cold all of the time. This idea would be best complemented if you could find a secure place to hole up in for a while. Like barricading yourself in a cottage. Used as a temporary base you could scavenge food etc then shut yourself in and dry clothes and craft some stuff before venturing back out.

[Standalone]Wet clothes should need drying out

Well if they are rain-wet, yes. Unless you are in a warm evironment, wet jeans would take literally hours to dry. Try getting in a bath of cold water wearing jeans and then stand in an cold unheated building. You're telling me you're not instantly freezing your ass off? Not to mention your top half getting similarly soaked. You'd be shaking like crazy. There should be a value attached to how wet things are. 0=dry 10=dripping wet like like you just got out the sea. Rain could be an accumulated effect with the wet value increasing by 1 for every 2 min exposed to rain up to a maximum of 8. Natural drying could be determined by ambient temperature, an average of -1 every 15 min. You could dry out naturally, but being cold would have affected you in the meantime.

    Blind firing

Well your problem is 3rd person, not blind firing.

Waypoints only allowed with a GPS

Definitely. The map could have just a little more detail. The ordance survey maps have alot more detail than the Chernarus map, and they are common enough I remember when I didn't know you could place waypoints and had to keep looking at the map and trying to figure out where I was, let me tell you its not easy. I think I had died and wanted to get back to my body. I respawned on the east coast above Elektro somewhere and all I knew was the name of the place where I had died. That exercise took me most of the afternoon. Every time I came across a road or village I'd be looking at the map thinking "Where the hell am I??" I still never found my body.
  14. Shadow Man

[Standalone]Wet clothes should need drying out

Yes good idea. There should be a means to keep clothes dry. You would take clothes off to swim anyway. How many people would just run into the sea fully clothed? To keep things simple you could make an assumption that backpacks are waterproof so puuting clothes in you pack keeps them dry. Or if you want hardcore you'd need to bag them up. I like this too. Things like ammo could be given a failure rate maybe. I dont think guns are very suited to being submerged in sea water. Gps certainly wouldn't like water. Unless military grade gps units are waterproof?

Third person vs First person view

I searched dayz commander the other day for 1st person servers. Know what I found? ONE. A single server. So no one can say "Just find 1st person servers", because on a good day there won't be many. I dont want to hear any crap about it being what the majority wants either. The majority would also like to spawn with a car, an as50, nvg's and a guardian angel. But that is not DayZ. That is an ArmA based open world fps with some zombies getting in the way.

Bear Traps : Do they exist?

:o Could this be whats really happening with all the broken legs in doorways etc?? Its the phantom bear trap.... man.
  17. Oh, and before the patch we weren't "pushed" into pvp? You couldn't play on a high pop server and think you're going to do much else without hiding in the woods. I would like to know, in detail, what you think the finished game should be like. Because this is what it comes down to. We've all been playing a mod in development. What we all think it IS, might be nothing like what its going to be when its actually finished. I have come to the conclusion that it is a bit of a mountain man sim with zombies being the reason for it. Give the players no rules and there you go.
  18. [Fixed]-Zombies now run straight at you and don't look like they're artificially fast. -Zombies attack animation isn't like a spasm -Zombies cant move/hit through walls -Zombies have new different states "full aggro", "searching", "beserk" Or something like this anyway...
  19. Shadow Man

You know you've played too much DayZ when...

...You're walking the dog in a field and feel like you're too exposed. ...You're walking the dog and you cant help checking treelines and horizons.
  20. Shadow Man

Just in case you missed it...

Well in the SA there will be more to do at each location with all the enterable buildings. You'll probably not feel like you're doing half as much running as in the mod. Generally most players will spawn and head straight for their favorite loot spot. You won't need to head straight for Cherno anymore! Now I think about it, its gonna be fucking awsome. There will be players all over the place because you don't have to do the circuit round the big towns to get lots of loot.
  21. Shadow Man

    What is a unique player?

I don't know if this is correct, but I look at it as if it were each person that connects. A person could have different in game names, but they're not unique players. So its each real person to me. I'd be interested to see a definite answer.
  22. Shadow Man

Do you have what it takes......

    1. Fatal. 2. A brutal apocalyptic survival test. What do I feel? I like to put myself in situations that test my nerves. Like trying to remain in Cherno for extended periods of time with only some basic gear, maybe an AK of some sort but not much ammo. Try to keep moving and visit all the different loot buildings numerous times and help players if possible. So I guess I'm usually stressed while playing because most of the time some one is hunting me. I don't like pure pvp, mainly because it just feels too much like cod. I like the fear of not knowing who else is around and if I had my way, servers would not display names or even how many players were in a server.
  23. Its not meant to be fun, its meant to be hard. "Anti-game" remember.
  24. Shadow Man

    So Would you Kill me?

Probably not. Mainly because I usually die in a gunfight (I blame my crap pc, crap mouse, crap keyboard and crap internet). I would run up and type FRIENDLY (cos I don't have a mic) and hope you don't shoot me.
