DayZ Developer Blog 3rd August 2013

Oh I absolutely know, and generally I agree. But in all honesty I don't play the mod any more and one of the reasons is the total abscence of players respect for their own life. Getting a gun out and shooting at someone should have serious consequences. Losing some gear isn't enough. If there is another way to give value to players characters then I'm all ears. An extreme example (one that I know would never be done) would be to block a player entirely from any server for say, a week after being killed. I think I would be much more cautious than I am currently, and not sprint through Cherno like an idiot hoping to get lucky.

I hate to admit it, but a skill system of some sort is more appealing in view of what the mod has become. Adding a skill system would at least give your character value, which is the whole point of perma death. As it is the mod is not really any different to any other respawn and repeat shooter, you just have a little run each time. I want it to be a crushing loss to be killed.

    Where are all the devblogs?

Amazing how the conversation always reverts to the same old argument. ***NEWSFLASH*** I can now confirm that there is a date for SA. It will DEFINITELY be released JULY 2014. There. You can all relax now you have a definite date. If for some reason it releases earlier than this, then send yor complaints along with a kiss, to my arse.
  4. After reading some of these posts, I really do not envy Rocket. He tries to give us some info on how things are going but people aren't satisfied. He says nothing and they complain there's no progress report. He seems damned whatever he says.

    Cant understand KOS moaners :s

If you don't kos then you do it for a reason other than to make your life easier, which is playing a role. Most people kos because its well proven to be the safest and quickest way to deal with players who are all potentially a threat. I'm not a fucking psychiatrist, I just tried to explain it in more words than "I don't like to". What I was saying was that after a while people have had enough of running to get gear and getting killed without any other interaction. If you don't kill other players you meet, its pretty rare now that you find a genuine "friendly", so usually one of you dies. I'm not saying friendlies don't exist, you just hardly ever find them. If someone held me at gunpoint and said "Give me your gear or you're dead" I may as well take the risk of running or killing him because cooperating has the same end result as being killed. You're stood there with no gear. Until your life has value other than what gear you have DayZ will remain a DM, which after a time gets dull. Did you really not get what I meant about the z's? Its one game changing mechanic, yes. Obviously changing that one part of the game won't make it a finished product, but do you really not see where I'm coming from? I'm sorry but they're laughable with their random hitting radius nonsense. Also, no not a quick one-two. If they actually attacked you in a way that you could use some skill to fight them rather than bobbing back and forth swinging your hatchet at thin air.

    Cant understand KOS moaners :s

THIS. You want to know why? Because people want that interaction. They are creating their own scenarios where something interesting happens. Because your own life has no value unless you feel like RPing it a bit there is never a reason to give a robber what he wants in the hope he spares your life. You may as well start again if your going to give up your stuff. The thing about KOS is not about being butthurt, I'm so fucking sick of hearing people say that. We all play games and get killed, who cares. I don't know about anyone else, but DayZ mod as it stands is not a zombie apocalypse survival game, which is what I thought it was meant to be. Its just open world deathmatch which after a while is tedious. People want more, they want something to do. I'm trying very hard to reserve judgement about the SA until its here, but from what I can see its going to be the same because of the way the engine works. The one major thing that would transform the game would be zombie interaction. If you could actually fight zombies, with your bare hands if necessary, then it would be totally different.
  7. Multiple bean notification (prior to the ones you just gave(thanks btw)) but when opening it says "Sorry, we couldn't find that". I cant seem to find the posts even if I look through manually. Doesn't really matter but I can't quite remember what I said to deserve beanz and we all love getting the little red number at the top meaning "YOU HAVE BEEAANZ" All hail the Bean. Hail!
  8. :( Have posts been deleted? I got beanz. I like to see the beanz.
  9. One can only hope you're right. I thought it was the ability to look over walls and round trees and over grass when prone.
  10. Glad to hear it! My reasoning comes from my experience with the mod. Based on that, community feedback seems to prefer 3rd. But as Terrorviktor said if there are official 1st only servers then thats something.
  11. Well it looks like it will be 3rd person then. Thats virtually a deal breaker for me. And don't give me the whole server options lecture, how many 1st person servers are running the mod? None.

    Snakes

No no, not kittens. Rabbits. With big sharp pointy teeth.
  13. Anyone else getting a threat detection from AVG about battleye?

    Dirty Death Messages

You mean more realistic for snipers. Snipers have it way too easy.

    Dirty Death Messages

I'm all for this. I did make a thread about death messages ages ago but no harm in bringing it up again. Death messages go against everything that DayZ is meant to be. Along with sidechat, humanity and third person. I never liked humanity because it just gives people another reason to kill for fun. There would and should be no good way to tell if a person you meet is trustworthy. I would even go so far as to have server player lists hidden. Not knowing whats going on in the environment is the whole point. We shouldn't be able to know how many players there are and all their names. It should just be you, standing on a beach with no clue who else may be around.

    50's, L119, or none?

I hate snipers in games. Its just lame. Hardly anyone who isn't trained in firearms would be able to shoot anything with one. I tried to shoot a hare with a scoped rifle at less than 100m (IRL) and missed it by about a foot. As far as I could tell it was bang in the centre of my sight, still missed it. Why? Cos I haven't used a scoped rifle before. Then the guy who let me have a go chuckled and popped it easily. Unless you can simulate the difficulty of using a scope so that it requires actual skill, they will always be OP.

    is the game stil alive?

I have tried playing a few times recently. But to be honest it just didnt grab me like it did when I first played it. For me DayZ was a survival game, I just don't like trying to survive countless invisible snipers and constantly running around with a train of zombies. You cant shoot the z's cos of all the extra aggro, and you always have to resort the rediculous hiding in a bush thing. The best experience I now have is the first few times I play on a brand new map that I and others are not familiar with. As soon as players know every detail of a map it just becomes about who can get to the loot spawns first etc. I am really hoping that the SA engine will be different enough to allow the game to be what it should have been.
  18. Shadow Man

    How long have you survived?

I never last long, maybe a couple of days. I think the longest ever was a week maybe. I just can't help hanging around in Cherno waiting for something to happen!
  19. Shadow Man

    Anyone else agree?

I don't need any more info from the devs. It has always been certain that I will get the SA. What I'm more interested in is how people will play it when it finally arrives. If its the same old deathmatch then I'll be off to play something else. I'll pop in every now and then to see how things are and if it becomes the game I wanted then I'll play it.

    Free Guns! A Fresh Start

I will be amazed if no one goes full auto once they have a weapon. I may have to go and stand around as a spectator just to see it.
  21. Well you could agrue that a person when shot may not die for some hours unless hit in a critical part like the heart. A shot to the gut may be so painful a person could not function, it may not kill you straight away. An infected person may have nerve/brain damage which stops them feeling pain allowing them to continue if not definitely dead.

    Melee combat

I played Condemned recently and it occurred to me that the melee system it has would suit Dayz quite well. The whole idea of grabbing a branch from a tree or a log or a stone off the ground and slugging it with the zombies would be awsome. Personally I'd like to see less people running around with military weapons, almost to the point that at least half of all combat is melee. Whether or not pvp melee works due to latency is a possible problem, but even still, having to physically batter your way through the Z's would be great fun.
  23. Shadow Man

    Melee combat

The point was to have a more realistic and varied melee system so that you need to think a bit more about a situation. The different weapons would all have different stats. Can you imagine actually fighting with a brick? A small branch wouldn't do a lot of damage, so against 1 enemy you may be ok but with 3 or 4 enemies you would be better running away. Or use a more dangerous weapon like a nail board (which you could make yourself). You could make a spear if you hae a knife for a longer reach stabby weapon. Also you talk as if there AREN'T any axe murderers already. I am secretly hoping someone will mod the SA into an almost gun-free game. The odd one here or there. No scopes, snipers or automatic weapons, and very limited ammo. Of course pointless without a melee system though. At the very least we should be able to punch someone in the face.
  24. Think I might start a new creative world on Minecraft. Timewarp straight to Standalone release day!

    Hot air balloons! (New transport)

There would be one universal experience for anyone who actually uses the hot air balloon. *Lights burner* "YAY!" *Gains altitude, admires the view as he serenely rises above tree level* "Ah, well isn't this ni..." *Hears gunshots* "Uh oh" *Falls to his death* Seriously, who wouldn't shoot at a hot air ballon?
