I feel this has been one of the best additions to the game. It makes it more challenging to hide in a bush and snipe a town. I really hope they re introduce wild-spawning zeds again soon once they figure out the FPS issues. Before wild spawning zeds and the tendency of all zeds to wander towards you, people could just hide in a bush or tree just uphill from a town and leisurly snipe anybody that came through. The new mechanics force you to keep moving, reposition, and deal with dispatching zombies that are now close enough to you to aggro when you sipe the poor bastard in town that's foraging for a can of beans.

People are still making these hyperbolic posts about how the game is now "impossible to survive"?? It's really not as bad as you're making it out to be. Adapt, learn, change your tactics. The game is now more challenging, but still *very* playable. Learn how to be stealthy, and when stealth doesn't work, learn to weigh risk vs reward and decide when it might be better to just skip the grocery store and either move on or come back. Watch any zombie movie or TV show and you're garanteed to see a scene in which the protagonists have to weigh the potential risks of death or infection against the benefit of of obtaining something from a location that they have to enter. It's part of the game (finally, after months of simply being able to walk around stupid zombies) and if you don't like it or think it is unplayable then maybe this isn't the game for you. BTW, there's plenty of DayZ mods that are running on pre-1.7.7 settings with easier zombies, so give them a try. You might like it more.

Thank you for explaining this. It's really a relief to hear and it sounds as though the zombies will be at a really good point once you guys get things working for the next release. The hard work is appreciated!

ABSOLUTELY correct! I cannot stress enough how much NikoGT hit the nail on the head. Challenge needs to be there, and hopefully the lack of challenge that the hotfix introduced is due to the issues that R4Z0R49 mentioned with the divide by 0 infection rate, angle of attack and range. R4Z0R49, your efforts are appreciated more than you know! I thing a lot of us agree that 1.7.7 was a giant leap in the right direction. I applaud you and everyone else involved for doing your best to improve the game. Thanks!

Dupers in 1.7.7 don't know what hit them

Fantastic video! Way to keep your cool. Thanks for sharing! -
Wow so many responses! Well here's my two cents. LOVE the new update! The intensity is back. Zombies feel like they are in the movies...you MUST avoid getting bitten (slapped in our case)! PvP gunfights are difficult, as they would be in a zombie apocalypse. You now have to calculate risk vs reward in everything you do, even looting a can of beans from the grocery store. Night time play is terrifying! Thank you Razor and everyone else that put work in. Job well done. There are bugs, but that's expected and I'm sure you're working hard to fix them.

cool, thanks for the fast response

Sorry if this has already been asked, I'm on a phone and searching is limited. The last change log I read had "?????" next to setting season to lock full moon nights. Was this included in the update? (hoping it wasn't). Are NVGs still in the game? On a trip, can't wait to get home and play on the new update! Thanks for all the hard work!

What ever Happend to the original DayZ?
BC_Hawke replied to *Exile* Sami's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Plenty of vanilla private hives? Really? Because I'm having a heck of a time finding any that are populated. Can you share some links? Not being sarcastic, in really looking for some good vanilla private hives. -
Cool thanks for the fast reply

n00b question, I searched but probably entered the wrong criteria...if I update to 1.7.5.1 will I still be able to join 1.7.4.4 servers without issues? I play on a few private hives that haven't implemented the update right away. thanks

Just an update, I spent some time optimizing Windows and DayZ settings to run better, and as of now I get 45-50fps in the woods and 30+fps in the big cities on servers with less than 35 people or so. On 40+ it's about 35-40fps in the woods and 15-20fps in big cities. Not stellar, but what else do you expect from a 6 year old computer? As stated before I'm running an 8 core Mac Pro desktop 3,1 (early 2008 model) with 4GB Ram and an Nvidia GTX650 Ti video card.

Does sidechat ruin anyone elses game?
BC_Hawke replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Side chat ruins the immersion, and DayZ is designed to be immersive. I hate it for the same reason I hate "1,000,000,000+ vehicles!!!!! More heli crashes!!!! 24/7 daylight!!!" I've found it extremely difficult to find any private hives that stick to original DayZ settings. The private hives are all becoming care bear servers and it's attracting all the rug rats that make CoD so terrible to play. All the vehicles, daylight, and the enabling of side chat take away the intensity of the game. I want my DayZ back. I tried going back to public but I literally get hacked within 10 minutes of joining every time. Looks as though the only option is to wait for SA. -
Looking for private hive with same or similar rules to public servers
BC_Hawke posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I've been playing DayZ for a little over a month and I'm loving it but I'm finding it really difficult to get a consistent gaming experience that holds to the original experience that Rocket intended with DayZ. I've tried public servers but it seems I get hacked into thunderdome within 45 minutes every damn time I join one. I really like the private hive idea, but it seems almost every hive is 300+ vehicles! 24/7 daytime!!! more heli crash sites!!!!! I used to play on US-LA a lot but since they added airplanes it takes all of 5 minutes to take a bus to an airfield and get a fully repaired plane after a server reset. Too easy! Not to mention the server lags with all the planes flying around and they took out the perfect idea of 2 hours of night time per day. On top of that, it seems most private hives I've joined either don't spawn repairable choppers, or they only spawn ONE and the admins/clan that runs the server control it all the time. I played on UGF for a while but the UGF clan always has the only chopper that spawns and they haven't been putting night time on the server. Lastly, I've found 1 or 2 servers that are set up nicely but numbers are low so there's never any action up north. In all the time I've played this game, I have yet to experience repairing a chopper or finding NVG on a server that actually has night time. This is what I'd like out of DayZ: - Good connection - Close to official DayZ rules/spawns - Some night time play - Good PvP with groups/squads Do private hives that offer the above exist and I just haven't found them yet, or am I asking too much? tl;dr I'm sick of private hives with tons of vehicles/weapons/24/7 daylight...any with regular rules? Thanks! -
Looking for private hive with same or similar rules to public servers
BC_Hawke replied to BC_Hawke's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Assuming it's the server in your sig? Thanks, I'll check it out. I wish there were more vanilla DayZ private hives with good population. -
What on earth makes you think he bought a Mac for the express purpose of playing DayZ? Can your $500 computer run Final Cut Pro, Compressor, & MPEG Streamclip, "bro"? In case you're too dense to figure it out, I need to run that software in my line of work, and it only makes sense to run Windows on the same computer since you can. My Mac is 5 years old so DayZ chugs but I'm sure anyone with a recent Mac pro or MacBook pro could run DayZ pretty smoothly on Win7. Not everything in life is measured in DayZ FPS, bro (city or woods). STFU if you don't have anything to contribute.

Sick of spending hours to be killed by hackers? Tired of crappy admins? Forget all that and join our server!
BC_Hawke replied to 2gunz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'd like to try the server out. Game name same as my forum name. Can I get a PM or do I need to reg at the other forum site? EDIT: Just curious...I read the rules and they sound good, but is there any decent PvP on the server? To me it's boring if all you do is evade zombies all the time. -
Yes. You could have easily figured this out by searching google. I'm happy to help you get going in the right direction but I'm not going to hold your hand. :)

Journo, I have to say that video was absolutely hilarious and it's what got me to sub your channel, so something positive came out of it. In their defense, without knowing who the Cherno Journo is you did sound like one of many trolls out there that just yell "don't shoot!" while messing with you or trying to steal your gear. I'll tend towards shooting someone if they just jump in my vehicle without my acknowledging them. I've seen people steal gear from the back and bail. Props on how you dealt with it, it was a very funny DayZ moment! Keep bringing us informative insights and interviews from Chernogorsk and abroad! Edit: I'm sure the US-LA admins would gain some support if they made amends with the Cherno Journo and agreed to an interview! I want to see a chopper evac to the interview location with full admin staff on guard! Best part is when you interview them about the execution you won't have to re-create it in Arma 2 editor LOL!

By the way, while I'm willing to help out with people's questions, you've really got to take a little time to read before begging like a sad puppy dog. I mean, come on...installing windows via bootcamp was mentioned in this thread, and all you have to do is hit up google and/or youtube! It's that easy! http://www.google.com/search?q=installing+windows+7+bootcamp&aq=f&oq=installing+windows+7+bootcamp&sugexp=chrome,mod=0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=windows+7+bootcamp+install&oq=windows+7+bootcamp+install&gs_l=youtube.3..0.837.6638.0.6806.28.20.1.7.7.0.343.2874.11j4j1j4.20.0...0.0...1ac.1.8qQzWtpQ34Y http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3986

Search the web for how to install windows 7 via bootcamp (onto a separate hdd preferably if you have a tower), then go to your standard DayZ instal wiki. With bootcamp your are fully booting up in windows, not emulating, so it's like using any other PC windows install. I'm running DayZ on a 2008 Mac pro tower 8-core 3.2ghz with 4gb of ram and an nvidia gtx 650ti 1gb video card on Win7 64bit. Unfortunately I only average 20-30fps in busy areas of the map, but I think it's b/c I need more RAM. My 4gb is pegged the whole time when I play. As for the whole "why play on a Mac" or "pc vs Mac" crap, people have their reasons. I'm a die hard windows user but my career demands that I have Final Cut Pro at home which is Mac only software. Why waste money on two computers when I can have a dual boot setup with OSX strictly for video editing and Win7 for everything else?

Hey everyone I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in on this discussion. I've been playing DayZ for about a month now and I play almost exclusively on the US-LA server because I get very good connection to it due to proximity and I've had good pvp experiences both friendly and with bandits/aggressors. Sorry for the lengthy post below, but I really wanted to share my experiences after all that's been mentioned in this thread First off, I've had nothing but good experiences with the admins. Most of the time they are flying around in choppers or driving in a URAL and they often give people rides up north just to lend a helping hand. I've heard people complain that they shoot fresh spawns but I've never seen it. The only confrontation I've had was once when I was being held up by bandits who started shooting at Lockie (admin) who was flying over Elektro in a plane. After shooting at the plane, the bandits let me go after exchanging some supplies with me, after which Lockie did a low pass and saw me. He assumed I was the one shooting so he landed and sniped me (very legit kill, no hacks or admin abuse...just got out and shot me). The next day I was on and had just spawned and Lockie and another admin picked myself and 3 other fresh spawns up in a URAL and took us up to Stary to gear up at the military tents. All in all we had a good ride up there, taking out a bandit along the way that fired on us and looting a heli crash site. Lockie could have easily held a grudge and executed me for supposedly shooting at his plane but all was forgiven. They also helped me once when my character glitched after being hit by a zombie on a ladder. I was passed out permanently but wouldn't die, and nobody could see my body, so there was no way for me to die and respawn. I mentioned it in side chat and admins flew over in a chopper and shot in the location that I described my body to be and it killed me so I could respawn. Now THAT's good customer service! Now, I *have* seen them ban people without letting them state their case (a friend of mine picked up a hacked weapon and got banned for having used it). They listen to you if you address them in game, but my one main complaint is that there's no website or forum for the server (save a URL to donate money to keep the server running). Also, if you mess with them, they give you little slack. But if you're going to troll admins on a server or abuse side chat voice communication, then what do you expect? A friend of mine got banned yesterday but he was constantly trolling the admins and giving them shit, so...tough luck I guess. As for them constantly being geared up...so what? It's their server. I haven't seen them use hacks or use their weapons unjustly (though, execution of the Cherno Journo did seem excessive LOL). Finally, I'd like to point out how aggressive they are about fixing what hackers destroy about the game. There is almost always 1 or more admins on and hackers get banned very quickly. They also do their best to help you out if you've been the victim of an obvious hacker. My crew got wiped out by a hacker at NWAF the other day and after they banned him they picked us up in a chopper at the coast and gave us all a ride back up to NWAF so we could re-gear up and pick up where we left off. That's above and beyond IMHO.
