    Take on helicopters (DayZ SA)

Maybe me and you could get into a hugging match then if they do incorporate the harsh mechanics of ToH. ;) Its a pretty nice engine - you can see the collective change the angel of attack of the blades, you can damage the engine from using the throttle at wide open, and you have to correct tail drift for over torque adjustments when taking off, ascending and descending. The buffer zone from being close tot he ground makes landing a lot more realistic and fun. Crash landing using autorotation from a over worked engine is a real thrill in this one. Its to easy in DayZ. You have to operate the helicopter within its parameters rather then going full tilt, full throttle all the time. Not to mention harsh weather conditions such as wind, and temperature changes, along with high altitude flying in smaller craft... ;D

    Easiest Way to install/update DayZ

    DayZ Commander commands DayZ...
  3. Agreed - to what you find entertaining in that perspective, I find fishy. Some of your other videos would say otherwise... with quotes (well, not really quotes I just remember hearing from your other video) such as "Wait for him to teleport them all to the airfield and we'll run them over" as you circle in a blue van... or maybe it is just luck in that your legitimacy to "work with" hackers is common in your clips. I won't be joining you in January. Frankie is raw, real, and where its at. ;)
  4. I see hackers as people that should be shun'd. They completely ruin the experience of DayZ. They have the ability not only to make gear and its status worthless, but also the ability to ruin other players day and hard work. They remove all longevity of the game. Accepting items from them is the same thing as using the hackers yourself - in my honest opinion. Didn't enjoy the video either to be truthful. Inaccurate engagement of the Helo - which for the most part was you just trying to be cinematic leads me to think that some of this stuff was staged... as with most hacker videos. I didn't finish it either. Going to watch Frankie.
  5. All of his videos seem to be laced with hackers that help him out.

    can host how???

... This is just a great post - to go with a great forum user name. I couldn't stop laughing. Since you ain't paying rent you might want to check into other options, such as server hosters - they can make it effortless to run and maintain servers. DayZ.ST is not so bad.

Why do I lag in Dayz? ):

This. People often get lazy with laptops and forget they are like cars - they need to be able to rid themselves of heat using the design they've been built with. Laptops should really be called Tabletops - because thats what they need to be on. Get something to read the GPU and CPU speed/temp (often refer'd to as widgets for windows) and check to see if they are at a harmful level based on your products guide lines... heat and cause damage that cannot be undone.

    DayZ breaking computer?

Depending on what video card you've got, that could be a harmful temp. I've heard some cards max at 70C, while others 110C... So now that you know the temp of your card, might be time to do a little footwork and see whats a correct operating temperature of your unit. Often when a card gets to hot it just blanks the screen to take a break - sometimes these features fail thats why I've recommended the current path. I haven't ever seen one display a odd color'd screen like the one you've got though. If its not the temp of the card, which it doesn't really sound like it off hand, it is either as stated above - a driver issue (these things can become corrupted) or a RAM issue. Some people have had luck doing a COMPLETE DRIVER uninstall, and reinstall, then update (if needed). Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for your video card are rather easy - you should be able to locate a nice tutorial. Make sure you've got the correct ones downloaded before messing around, and do a complete UNINSTALL first... the "repair" options sometimes don't do their damn job.
  12. A struggle suggestion, gentlemen. Not a fight suggestion. POLL REMOVED, TO MANY METHODS LISTED. GREEN TEXT ADDED ROUGHLY 14-16DEC12 ORANGE TEXT ADDED 21DEC12 Since they stated that the standalone will have a melee system I think another smaller system within that could do wonders.. So for all you guys that skim read posts and then troll it - you need to pay attention, I'm not saying this struggle suggestion needs to be or is the main combat system. It could be built into it and perhaps a smaller option of the over all theme. I'll try to spoon feed it. Concept (Overall) If two players are within a foot of one another - each player has the ability to initiate a "struggle" - I'm not talking street fighter brawl - I'm talking a realistic struggle that you'd find yourself in if you bump'd into another person while rounding a corner during times like these in game... The two players will be given a few options once one of them was picked struggle within range. 1) Give up (a static option) (Pressing your assigned key gives up.) 2) Attempt to reason (This key will just make your character voice a audio sound - indicating if the other person presses this key - the struggle will stop under mutual agreement (Pressing your assigned key issues the sound.) At any time, number 1 or number 2 option can be picked by pressing the static assigned key. 3) Struggle - now for this section I have several ideas... First 4 Methods below are based on a standard QTE Method 1 of struggle - A series of random keys thats dictated by the server must be pressed. (for example both players will see a W key on their screen) whoever presses the W key fastest - wins that key step. The first person to get 5 keys (adjustable) wins the struggle. Method 2 of struggle - Turn the struggle into a button mashing keyboard breaking frenzy and make the player feel the pressure of the struggle. Again a unkown total number of key strokes could be placed to decide the winner - this key will be a static struggle key, such as S. So whoever pushed the S key fastest to reach, say... 85 - wins the struggle. Method 3 of the struggle - Players both have to enter a series of keys in a fast manner, whoever completes the random series of keys first that the server dictated, wins the struggle. Method 4 of the struggle (14DEC12) - Your character starts to go into a "tunnel vision" mode (just a visual deal), at which the player needs to use his mouse to look into the more visual area of his screen to keep focus in the struggle (from a FPV, as if you are in Alt-double tap's mode.). This would require the coding of a mini hidden game in the background so to speak - the person with the highest score at the end of 8 seconds wins, and the struggle is completed by the 10th second. This would eliminate any type of discrimination against a player that has a crap connection as compared to something with a better ping. Second batch of methods inspired by WiFiN (21DEC12) with his permission I'd like to merge the two ideas and get the best input from the players that we can... Method 1 of batch 2 - Players have a series of options to pick, as follows - one option is selected (server automated, server picks the winner based of decided percentages) 1) Attempt to break free - player being attacked has a higher percent chance to knock down his attacker if picked, and is given time to flee 2) Attempt cheap shot - a low-blow animation is taken, equal chance of players landing 3) Attempt choke - player attacking has a higher percentage chance to attempt to choke out the person which leads to a minor knockout 4) Attempt to stun - both players can pick the 4th option at any time - for example maybe the attacker realized hes attacking a guy that has a buddy, and needs to stun this fella to move out - has a lower success rate but a higher yield for a swift end result. A stun will have minor effect on the performer when failed Method 2 of batch 2 - Players take active control with options in the struggle. Options cannot be spam'ed and players must wait for the animation to complete before another attempt. 1) Push away - percentage chance performed, players break free and both stumble away 2) Trip - percentage chance performed, winning player has upper hand over downed player. 3) Punch - percentage chance of the out come of the punch (minor life reduction, knocked out, knocked down - possible broken bones from being knocked down) 4) Knee - percentage chance of the out come of the knee (minor life reduction, major life reduction, knocked down - possible broken bones from being knocked down) Conditions to enter a struggle (15DEC12) - Condition method 1 (16DEC12)-The conditions to enter a struggle would be limited to 1) being extremely close to a person 2) 1 party being stationary. That being said - a person could run up to a shooter if they are not careful, and start a struggle if said shooter remains stationary. This however would not allow players that are currently in any type of axe-circling match be tricked into a struggle - if the players are under constant movement to prevent any abuse / trolling of a struggle.. Condition method 2 (16DEC12) - The player will have the option to attempt a struggle if they are at the back of a opponent, if the opponent has been stationary for a small period of time, a higher percentage chance of a struggle taking place is present. If the person is active - the chances of a struggle are lower. This will keep players from trying to move behind one another only when fighting to discourage abuse and over use. Why would we need this? I think this would add to the over all excitement of that random close encounter you come across once in a blue moon. The person that looses the struggle suffers random outcomes - such as being knocked completely out, being knocked back, or even breaking a bone from a fall from the spar. It could also be used on zombies that you've approached unaware, to take down silently. The chance of infection should be higher when this close of contact is made to a zombie of course. (21DEC12)The over all reason to keep this as a quick time event (THAT IS SHORT, NO MORE THEN 10 SECONDS) - as based on other players systems that sub-posted threads of my idea, is because if there is a attack/counter attack move - players will often just play defensively towards one another and this could generate a rather prolonged and annoying locked in fighting situation. With that being said I also added a small fighting method under the updated section - one that might work but would surely extend the whole fighting script... "Well wouldn't players just try to get into a struggle when its 1 vs 2 - just to keep the guy from firing?" If the animations where done correctly, and both parties in the struggle shifted about, making it hard to get a shot without hitting your buddy close range this would be a minor cure to the problem. Players have to be extremely close to engage in a struggle, and chances are if its 2 vs 1 at such a close range, might not turn to well for you in the first place. The struggle shouldn't in my opinion last any longer then 10 seconds, and the camera angle should be cinematic to the effects of a fight (perhaps a forced first person view while in the struggle, and it will return to which ever state you had it in afterwards 3rd or FPV) I think its a small addition, that down the road would add to the depth of DayZ. I'm not saying I want to see it in the DayZ standalone tomorrow, there is way more important things on the plate... would it would be pretty funny to be a fresh spawn, sneak up behind a bandit, and just start beating his ass - or if you are the bandit that gets crept up on, and you end up kicking him down and gunning his little bambi chest out. I'm sure I could enter more details - this is just a rough idea... be gentle community, be gentle... Some users get what I'm going for here - others don't.

    My Hand Shakes

This game, can in general give you a idea of how you would respond to something drastic IRL. This is why I love DayZ. Your hard earned work can lead to a shot of adrenalin when you encounter another player. Think frosty, and calculated rather then thinking about the what-ifs... a lot of people can show mental stress in a physical manner - its called loosing your cool. ;) When something happens IRL, something bad, that is - just remember you have a hard time keepin' cool bro, and don't spread your panic to others, it spreads like wild fire without leadership. Not saying you are a wuss or anything, not all respond in the same manner to stress - your a flight guy from the sounds of it, and they often survive general situations.

    DayZ breaking computer?

Get a nice little widget to tell you your GPU temp - dust that bad boy off (you'd be surprised how much dust can get on that thing.) I think it'll most likely be a temperature thing... Either way - there is a way to stress test your GPU to see if thats the problem in this case... http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/ Sometimes GPUs will run at a very high damaging temperature - and cause irreversible damage to the GPU unit... ;( Just to get a rough idea, I run under heavy load at temps of around 50C - I have had a day or 2 that I've gamed for a long period of time... and have had to let her cool down and figure out what was sapping her so bad. I burnt up a crappy Radeon 7600' 2G on the Arma engine already.
  15. I'm thinking slightly after Jan 5th - oddly enough once a lot of steam sales are to call it quits... :|
  16. Are you jumping into the game to fast? When I started playing DayZ I was getting the same thing, tried the same thing you did... oddly enough one time I just waited in the lobby for ever, and it updated and then started up correctly...
  17. I'm still amazed at how the SA information pipeline is being handled Lok - I mean... we've got guys that are looking all over the internet just for hints... ;( Dark, dark days these are...

5.1 - can often tell where the shot came from, how far away roughly, (within 50-100m)... all I care about. ;D

    Hobo Bike crafting

My fav by far is the 3rd one. I would totally put my Alice back on the bike frame if I was in that kinda situation.
  21. I like the idea - but heres some food for thought. A M9 unsuppressed still cracks out at 160ish Db, a suppressed one with a nice setup will still ring out at roughly 130Db... these things are very quiet in game in relation to how they really sound. With high-end technology these things are still loud - this plastic setup... which I've seen attempted before does lower the noise... but not quiet as much as the movies portray. With that said though, from the games standpoint - I like the idea. Note that the above video is a .22 ... damn near a BB gun with subsonic ammo... videos of the M9 and Glock 17 are posted on that website...

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

His main reason for being quiet was to not give away surprises he was putting within the game... he said that himself. I get this... but I feel as though being quiet IS NOT A BAD THING, as long as you don't tell your community you'll be giving them a update in regards to progression, weeks ago and never come out with it... I think everyone has reason to be asking, day in and day of about updates - not riddles, on a rather quiet topic now... saying "the standalone is good" is not really a update. I do believe that everything on the alpha is ready to go... and that there is untold factors in regards to steams sales that are holding it up. Arma 2 OA was around the top sellers BEFORE the sale started... from BIS's standpoint - releasing a new cow (DayZ SA) that can be milked before the old one dies away (Arma II OA), is not good business, they didn't bring ol' Dean under their wing because DayZ has 5 active players... and lets face it - most the players that are buying Arma 2 OA are either script kiddies that got snag'd playing god at DayZ, or those last few souls that live on earth that are just discovering DayZ MOD...

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

No. I'm just a end-user. I don't need to be a big boy! LoK - I get what you're saying, I guess I'm making a assumption because its a smaller team we'd have a better line of communication as of the status... instead its some how ass backwards. ;(

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

Yea your right - asking if a game is going to come out this year is being extremely pushy on a team that told us they would have a news post of how the product is doing weeks ago. Very unhuman like of me, or anyone else that simply wants to just have some news because I'm such a DayZ fan. The fact is really simple to the matter. This is how simple if could be to settle the dust of the crowd. If BIS told us they'd have a Arma 3 update several weeks ago and did this - do you think there would be the same type of response? http://www.bistudio.com/english/home/news/projects/347-status-update-for-arma-3 Hes got big-boy fans (1.4mil?), and hes in the big-boy games now, time to put on big-boy pants and push through for his fans. Hes living his dream, sure he might be under stress right now - but hes doing his dream job as he stated. I haven't been this excited for a game to release in a very, very long time - is it wrong for me to crave information - specifically very null and low level information, such as "Will DayZ come out before the year is out - or am I simply wasting my time playing Private Investigator for DayZ SA?" Not asking when we'll get a human on Mars...
