All in all - it should be harder to snipe. The wind should play a large factor in the shot. You'd see a lot more people missing or taking more time to setup if the weapons system had a consolidated data sheet that comes with the ACE mod. I do not however agree with a lot of your postings... and I say why. 1 - When I'm looking through glass, with proper eye relief, space, and good cheek to stock well... I don't see whats off to my sides. I don't think this would be worth any time. I'm on focus for where my scopes at. 2 - ACE incorporates a full range ballistics upgrades that are better. I can get a general wind direction for my location, and the wind speed based on the color arrow. (Yellow light, darker orange/red heavy.) Now this doesn't dictate the wind mid range, which is the only important wind honestly - and real snipers often look mid / back range of the shot to collect data. In real life - you can simply feel the wind on your face, without a compass. You can look at tall grass down range, flags, mirage, rainfall direction, and tree tops... graphically this would be hard to put into the game without having to much - which is what bogged Arma II down in the first place... Yes DOPE books are recorded with firing location wind direction and speed, but thats for a general idea and often these ranges do not have much cross wind - Unlike compared to what firing into a city would do - where a intersection you are firing into could be giving you a strong W - E wind, while you are getting a reading of only a half value N - S E wind at your position... everyone still with me? 3 - Bipods take no time to setup. Recoil from a DMR or M24 is on a more minor scale compared to a AK47, which both use the 308 style round... The M107 is a recoil operated system, it has a 3 ft spring to damper and load another round - it kicks, but not as much as people think. A target can be required and another round sent within 5 seconds if prone (if dust isn't being a brat). I do however not support these skilled standing and kneeling shot for the HEAVY (107/AS50) weapon systems, these guys are 28 pounds without ammo loaded... 4 - The Db a M24 or DMR puts out would be the same to a AK47, and less then some machine guns such as the 240B... shouldn't these players also become deaf also? No weapons are quiet really... again ACE has a ability to put in ear pro.

What was your motive to come to DayZ?
finkone replied to The Aquatic Land Walrus's topic in New Player Discussion
I've played Arma for years - and over looked DayZ entirely. I used to roll around with a crowd of ACE/ACRE hardcore guys that shunned DayZ. I wanted to try it before I deployed... once I came back, me and three other buddies gave it a go. Liked the game for its raw approach, for the intense situation it brings in regards to the no laws, all is fair game... -

DayZ Commander for the win, its sole purpose is to play DayZ for you. You can view recents, make favs, filter searches better (in my opinion) and updating maps, Arma 2 itself, or the MOD is also a mindless task thanks to DayZ Commander. Check it out.

Take On Helicopters (DayZ SA) flying adjustments!

I'd have to do a bit of research on the craft type, or spend 20 minutes doing familiarization with the craft... they all do have a general start-up procedure thought with that said. How sweet would that be - having your buds trying to hold off zombies while you are preping for takeoff? :D I know in the MOD they have update plans to be able to have the zombies pull you from cars, hit you in cars, and thus making auto glass replacements a more necessary thing. -
[DZwT] SAW vs Armed Squad, Rolling Skirmish (TrackIR too)

Different style then mine - I can't stand to give away my position using cover firing to maneuver. DMR user was bad, some guys you won't get to hear the crack. ;) Either way - besides me thinking it was a lame use of ammo... its still a good video bro. I'm a low out put, high hit guy in a fire fight as compared to spray and pray. :D -
I don't think that guy died to be honest. It seems the round struck the ground, then him. I know first hand - I was called a hacker once for a AS50 round landing JUST short of me, bouncing up, and hitting me. It brought me down to 2000ish health. I do believe your bullet hit him, and it was a nice shot - but I also believe that wasn't him dying on the message screen. The agro of the zombies carried on also which is a strong indicator of a player still up - even if lag is the case.

Better off buying the mod now, seeing as news is null for the SA release if you've got a craving, and time off - get it. Very enjoyable game. General break down of server types below. Public Hive (Public hive, hosted by DayZ MOD) you can join these hives and have your current gear from the last server, to the next. Tents, cars, and rotorcraft don't follow you to the other servers. Public hives are hacker swamped and often you'll get teleported and killed or something... rude along those lines. Private Hive (Privately hosted servers) with active admins are a safer route - check around the forums for servers looking for players. Leaving from one private to another that is not linked, your gear WILL NOT follow you. Private Community Hive (Privately hosted servers, that are linked together) like the public hive if they have several linked together you can go from one to the other and retain your gear on your characters. Again, tents, cars, and rotorcraft will stay on the server you found them on. The term WHITELISTED means in general a list that you must get pre-approved to join and play on that server, its to protect the server from unknown players and hackers (script kiddies) Trust is a bit higher on a whitelisted private hive, but trust no one... going alone is your safest bet. Tips Eating meat / canned food will restore health meat - 800, can of beans - 200 if I remember correctly. 12,000 is your total blood (health). Bloodbags are used on OTHERS to restore entire blood. Risky to ask for a bloodbag from a player you do not know. You can collect wood in the forest with your axe, by right clicking it while its in your inventory - you'll see collect wood. You can place that wood pile down with matches, and light the fire once its placed. You can cook meat, from hunting animals over the fire - which returns more blood then a can food item. Don't roll off buildings, be careful around ladders and even the smallest falls. Stay away from rocks you can get stuck. Don't crawl under vehicles.

Take On Helicopters (DayZ SA) flying adjustments!

I agree, that so many people would be turned off that perhaps they'd find the helicopter of a larger camp... but instead of even TRYING to fly it - they simply bypass it and opt for a vehicle rather then a rotorcraft because of this... -
So just throwing a little random general discussion out there... Been playing Take on helicopters lately since I've heard that the DayZ engine will be using this engine pretty much... with that said - I hope that they allow servers to have helios with veteran flying status. Helos are WAY to easy to fly in DayZ MOD, and it would be sweet to have to crab walk that bad boy in because of cross winds. I simply love the hard settings of take on helos. Sure you'd see a lot more helo crashes, but also - there where a lot less pilots in this type of situation... the sling loaded crates and so forth is crazy fun mission wise, and I'd like to have that same nervous feeling of my vehicle I'm transporting "flying" the helo rather then the helo flying the load. Just stopping in for XMAS to BS a bit...

Take On Helicopters (DayZ SA) flying adjustments!

Oh this gonna be fun. We will talk about what I've used in my writing, since I don't need to look anything up - you do. I'm going to assume this is the line we are talking about. You must have gotten confused because I put autorotiation prior to mentionin' keeping the helicopter straight using anti-torque pedals... in the event of a crash landing - so I'll let that slide on that part, but explain in more detail what happens when a crafts single engine has a complete failure... I'll spell out some underlying mechanics that are in ToH that ain't in DayZ or Arma 2. When you have a entire engine failure within a rotorcraft helicopter, you loose your tail rotors power, not always all of it - but most of it. This creates a large anti-torque problem. You surely know how helicopters fly without a tail rotor? Right? The example that I mentioned autorotation and was using it for a different situation, but still being placed as a correct term - was autorotation procedures in the event of a engine failure.. which are in Arma 2, and DayZ - but on a childs play scale. You simply need to glide close to the ground on a joke level and pull back to do a rough landing in DayZ or Arma 2, not the case in the real deal, or ToH for that matter. You can find a full detailed understanding of "STRAIGHT-IN AUTOROTATION" which is the term used in Emergence Procedures listed in Chapter 11, Page 1 (of chapter 11), Figure 11-1. Straight-in is what DayZ and Arma 2 ALWAYS offer since tail rotor torque is not a suffering factor in the crash. Which is silly. So next time you post a video - you to sir can use the correct terms since you are a terms nazi - you are using a Straight-In Autorotational landing method, because Arma 2 does not support a mechanical failure of the rotor systems themselves only a power loss to the main rotor, the rear rotor has to be freakin' blown off entirely... which I've never had to land in Arma 2 or DayZ without a rear rotor... So now that I've cleared up some negative nacys coming in here - and we all understand, we can move on. You can get the book direct download from Kindle also if you are still interested in learning Bearded McGee. -
Rossums I'm starting to follow you around. Always leads to a laugh.

Misunderstanding... You came here to state that you don't even want them in the game when I was just requesting to make them harder to fly... So because you didn't give any actual input to the chattin' I took it as if you where simply saying removing them would be your only option as compared to saying "Hey I hate them, make them harder to fly - or remove them." So yea... misunderstanding I guess.

Oh man, people are getting it... ;) -
Do you have any idea of how much fuel in general is stored at air strips? Even small ones? You do know that there are additional fuel sectors which you've most likely just driven by numerous times that are holds for aircraft? There are small dirt strips located all over the world, all over the place - that a lot of people don't even know about. Maintenance of a small, naturally aspirated rotor craft is lighter then you think... And you're right - if your car stalls you get out... its a safer means of travel... which was half my main point. If your helicopter starts to falter because sometime is flying like a idiot - its the dangers of the air and the nature of the beast. Hearing a gun shot or a car doesn't even get my blood pumping any more. Don't get me wrong - I'm more alert then normal under these circumstances... The loud wooop woopp woooppp woooppp of that 2 bladed huey, and the general mentality that comes with it "These guys are well situated if they aint hackers" is whats sweet. I understand its your opinion to think helicopters shouldn't even be in the game - that was your statement. I can't even begin to understand why then you wouldn't want to make them harder to fly - but whatever. ;D
-
Well in that case, ballistics should be removed and every weapon should be a ray gun. I can hit my target, first time, full value, 800-900m ALL DAY in this game, because its a game, and the only thing not letting me engage you out more is draw distance. So in terms of ... realism... not a average joe is going to be able to pick up a weapon system in regards to it being a long rifle, be able to dial in to 700m without any type of DOPE (data of previous engagements) and make shots with it all day, but yanno what? They can. I'm asking to use ToHs additional realism features and some guys are getting scared. ;) So I guess with you're approach we will have to bog down everything, to make sure its friendly for all ... and not a dark twisted hard game that it currently is... I could go on for HOURS with that approach SO YOU CAN STOW THAT CRAP!
-
I went ahead and threw a quick idea on the suggestion boards - pretty much from whats here. Touched mildly on the spawning thing also within this form.
-
On the public hive - this is the current state of the game anyways at the current time. I cannot locate them - well I can, and have, but its rare. A long with other vehicles. With that said - you are right. Increasing the spawn rate of these helos would 1) Make them more accessible to ALL players (regardless if they make the error when flying them) 2) When the hoarder finally does wreck it'll be respawn'd faster, and the hoarders will have a harder time flying them so they will be more fair game. Daze23... Just because the zombies hit - doesn't mean you'd never find a helo or airplane. Often these guys that own them have a recreational small helicopter that they leave while away on business. There are 3 small airports within the game, and from what I understand, DayZ which is for Day Zero (The first day) they should be in the game by the time line of it. Not to mention the pilots that didn't get to make their way to the strip to flee, the ones that will get rob'd and shot at the strip, the ones that are away... I think helicopters should be fully incorporated into the game. There would be small pockets of resistance that are skilled enough to maintain themselves and equipment in my opinion. Sucks that they are used as a primary scouting tool to find camps... but then again... My gut sinks when I'm in a open field and hear a helicopter coming in fast... these types of experiences BELONG in the game.
-
Perhaps I'll bump it over to the idea area - since what started as a general talk seems to be turning into support of a idea... :D
-
Have no faith. Be calculated. Its cold outside. Wear a coat. Get a canteen, matches, and a axe, stick to the woods - enjoy the rest of your days ALONE. ... I honestly watch players now a days, and don't even engage them or talk. I've had to many people claim to be one thing and be another. No punishment for playing bandit in DayZ - which is what makes the game sweet. In real life friends, are the only ones to be trusted off the bat. Even virtual buddys that you've gamed with for a while could be a minor risk... ;D

We all know his hardware could be better, but at the end of his OP, he stated that hes seeing a decrease in performance - thats what hes looking for help here with. :|

Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone
finkone replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Even with head-bob down all the way, I still get a bit of sickness when using FPV for prolonged periods of time. So no. Play servers that force your wanted game style. Nothings to stop me from using my ears instead of visual to set a ambush... and yes - I will hear you running. I can't stand the limited visual range of FPV. Thats why in games such as Warband, and War of the Roses they included 3rd person because people need more vision for the game to be more appealing, and realistic. The amount of setback presented from 3rd is completely minor, because BOTH PARTIES have the same ability to watch. So many people that want FPV only have had their asses handed to them by someone. -
You guys are all wrong. Shark suit bro. Keep you warm, stay quiet, they ain't bittin through that crap. Only problem is - I gotta find space for my nut-sack (not my ammo bag for the 249, my actual nut-sack)...

Replys in red of what I think...

I'm talking about adding additional flying features and preexisting mechanics of the engine they are using - not making people attend to school to work on things... The mechanics of flying a helo in ToH as compared to DayZ or regular Arma II/OA are a joke. Its fun to fly in ToH, its just E-Z street on DayZ. As long as it ain't one of them gay electric cars I can put some wrench time into it. A lot of Americans will surely know how to work a M4 with that said also... not my fault... Making it harder would also make it more of a risk for players just flying around, looking for tents ... or underground bases, or caches - whoever they will be working it in SA...
