How do you make this game look good?
finkone replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
The "fog" is most likely in relation to the restricted draw distance of the game. Adjusting your draw distance ain't gonna do anything to that (within the DayZ MOD). Its set at 1000M for most the servers I've seen, there are a few that went in on private hives and adjusted it. They did it to combat long-guns from what I understand. The fog is Armas way of trying to make the game look pretty without taxing your system if it can't handle it - but its DayZs way of saying "Helll no snake - you can get that 1600M shot because I won't allow you to see!" Embrace the fog - if they are barely within rendering range you know you got a 900Mish shot. Half way 500M you get the picture ... makes for fast ass range estimation to get ya in the ball park if you ever get caught with your pants down. TY for the link to CPUs and how they handled it. -

I agree entirely. I used TS when rolling with a big group - and man... not only does it piss me off when I'm trying to listen for footsteps, or gun shots... but it really sucks me back out of the game and turns it into Wasteland. If they restricted any type of outside game communication I'd be happy as hell. Think of how sick it would be, a 4 on 4 squad fight that happened to get within 80meters of one another... hearing the enemy chatter back and forth, not wanting to yell to your buddies information or movements because the enemy can hear you? That would get me hard. So many times its been to easy to simply ask buds on TS where they are if you loose close range track of them... what if I had to clover leaf around the woods to look for a buddy because we got separated? Or maybe we'd have to set up a SOP to link up... for example flare in the air. Noise discipline would also become a key factor if your voice travels 80M. Radio communication would also bridge the gap - giving players the ability to pick a very fine tuned freq would prevent trolls from sitting all day and finding your channel too quickly (although they should still be able to scan - or even perhaps find a scanner, because honestly who is going to find a military grade comms set and know how to program Day-Time and sync two of them without a SKL? For those of you that know what I'm talking about - sweet. For those that don't sorry...) It would be nice to see terrain features interfere with radio transmissions also. Not to mention learning how to play around with your radio (like ACE/ACRE) would also add a more harsh and in-depth learning experience with DayZ as well. -
So I'm sure a lot of you would enjoy watching me die - heres your chance! Sadly I recorded this at half-size rather then full-size. Decent picture but won't happen again... I'm getting a bit bored lately on DayZ - and my tents where extremely far so I decided to take unnecessary risks after baggin' a Cherno sniper, attempting to kill a script kiddie that appeared behind him... and attempting to befriend a bandit. I was rather bored trying to avoid hackers on the public hive - so I decided to stick it out... PS - screens white due to blood, fought off another group entering cherno but didn't have FRAPS running at that time. Heavy desync due to hackers. ;( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okCCWpYIsrY

Limiting people to not being able to play on a server will make squad battles retarded. I think you'd see combat logging become a larger issue. This would also separate groups of friends playing together... Not being able to loot your own body is also lame - just because you've had knowledge of where you've died doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to access the items. Chances are your body has already been hidden anyways. Giving players the ability to find the rest of your loot for killing you seems even more unrealistic in a game that Rocket seems to be wanting to keep ... realistic. IF they incorporate marking your map to add way-points on screen for ease of use (I know I wouldn't use them) but if a player uses them, and marks his map for guideline reasons - then you should be able to take that players MAP and find his locations that way... This would create a more "damn I need to check this guys body" approach to killing people, keep a realistic feel to the method of finding markers. I'd have gear out the ass if I was able to find everyone's tents after killing them... Just my opinion.

Early warning tactics. Used a lot in the military. I support this idea, I do believe its been suggested before... For a loner' like myself... sometimes I know I'm being trailed... it would be nice to be able to put a trip down, break azimuth, and setup a ambush. I know that when players hit a trip they'd start to freak and it would add to the element of surprise for people that actually use military tactics in a zombie-army simulator...

This - my most enjoyable times of playing DayZ are when I rarely get murdered. I'm care free at that point. I know the bastards going to hide my body so I don't even attempt to head back to the location I died. When I've got nothing to loose is the best time and DayZ shines during these times. It can be annoying to link up with friends, but that makes it all the more reason to go slow - look out - and play it safe. Once I have nice gear, my patience level is retarded, because I don't want to make any mistakes... When I'm on the hunt for matches... I'm truly feel free... ;)

Take On Helicopters (DayZ SA) flying adjustments!
finkone replied to finkone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This. I'm not trying to limit people that can fly to just keyboard - I myself use a Joystick, I won't lie about that. I can however fly very slowly, and ugly using the Veteran setting, but cannot get to the pilot level I can use with a joystick. Its a valid point that whoever made about limiting the ability to fly from players that don't have a joystick and I think it could hinder the game a bit. Like I said though, I can fly with just a keyboard/mouse on veteran adjusting trims. -
ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!

Fraggle go enjoy DayZ SA - I'll hold down the fort as a temp forum team'er. :D -
I don't get it...? I do however love the ignorant tags used to state what this video is about... "New Spawn Kill Bandit Hate Me Matthew"
-
At this point, I think it will be similar performance wise that is. They will be using the ToH (Take On Helicopters) engine...

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
finkone replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Lmao @ the last sentence... up until that point I was wondering why someone would say such nice things. I do however have my own opinion on... Is DayZ MOD free... Yes... it is. do people buy Arma II with the sole reason to play DayZ MOD? Yes... they do. How did a game that was released in 2009, climb back up to the top of the top sellers in Steam during sales? Because of DayZ. Big ol' BIS wouldn't have racked in a F ton of money from their GAME, they racked in a F ton of money because of ROCKETS "Free" MOD. So honestly - yes... DayZ is classified as free... But I wonder if they took a percentage statistic of the people who bought Arma II in Nov/Dec/Jan - who went on to download and install ACE/ACRE, or try Wasteland. That percentage would be small my friends. I also have a opinion about how much the SA should cost... and my opinion on that is whatever the hell ROCKET dictates - its his baby, its his long nights, its his work. I'd pay 60 bucks for it as a buggy ass Alpha - because I know Rocket is not going to fail us, and keep working hard. -
The selection of people testing as Rocket stated would be first and fore-most the people that have openly contributed to the MOD with great effort. That of course being Forum Admins, Persons who maintained large test networks on multi-server hives, both private and public, and major contributes to the mod - and also I keep seeing people that are very popular on twitch, or youtube getting invites, as they will be able to release nice quality footage of the game rather then amateur stuff. Now... if they are really getting invites is beyond me. They could be lying. I've yet to see anything gameplay/gamefootage and I don't know if the testing has even begun.

I hope they do. -
You had no problem giving people a tutorial on how to use ladders through walls, hide in bushes to get away from zombies, and any of that other crap - not to mention being able to avoid zombies rather easy from your video - guess it just ain't easy enough. I don't even know why I came into this. :X
-
I don't know about the rest of you - but I don't want to slow pansy zombies. I want these. THIS GUY WASN'T EVEN IN CHERNO - HE WAS IN SMALL OL' GUGLOVO!
-
From a performance side I could see your argument, and would almost agree with that... But in the same sense - I'm not seeing a drastic change. Did you try another server? And lastly... And what really put me off to this post in general... is the fact that the original poster has a tutorial on how to evade zombies at which he is very sucessful.... And you want slower... zombies?
-
Maybe I'm just a tard - because I've seen no increase in zombies ... in the past day or so....? I mean someone correct me if I'm wrong... if they some how forced a new update or server side changes to increase spawns... far as I'm concerned... not... seeing it?
-
Me and a buddy can split up, make it in and outta cherno with whatever parts we need in less then 15/20 minutes. I don't understand what you are doing wrong.
-
Red quoted parts are my main replys I guess. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I'm entitled to my opinion on your opinion. Your entitled to a opinion on my opinion on your opinion - although at the point I might start to loose interest. 1)I disagree completely, and I am more of a common gamer. Zombies are to damn easy to avoid. 2)Ever seen 28 days later? Maybe this is the goal of ROCKETS Mod, not yours. If they where set to slow, they would be insanely easy to loose in game... not like you can run into a building and out the other side and loose the zombie.. oh wait... you can.... not like you find a small pine tree and sit at the base... oh... damnit... wait... you can. 3)Whats really intense is getting in and looting without making zombies come your way - rather then being able to simply run through the entire town and loot it because zombies are slow. That sounds lame. What happens when I get a gun with some ammo? Because they are so damn slow - if I happened to get trapped in, which is rare because now I'm very good at looting under timed pressure - I'll just simply shoot the one or two zombies I alerted and RUN to the next building without care because they are.. well.. slow? No thanks. Game would be interesting for about 3 minutes - that is, until I find my first axe. 4)With the way current zombies are ... I could back pedal circles around them and change random direction and not get hit... Do I really have to upload a video proving this or could you just go watch Frankie run around in Cherno while hes talking to bambis? 5)Now we are really showing ourselves as the generation that requires instant gratification... I enjoy the hunt of the loot - I don't think its bad how it is at all. 6)Yes - ok we agree on something, even though its minor. Automobiles are rather easy to break. I don't have any issues if I use mine with care. I've also broken random parts before in the past doing minor, slow giving off road driving (IRL) - DayZ doesn't punish me for this. 7)Well thats the nature of the beast, and how a lot of games go. At first you are excited about small goals - then depressed when these are ripped from you... which is what your over all post consists off. DayZ is about the experience, the excitement of running into another player for me... it is not a very kind game for looters/camp builders/car hoarders...
-
Well one of the things that DayZ will have to combat, at which is going to be a up hill battle, is the anonymous nature of players that do not know each other, and the endgame goal. My point is - that if you see a person in real life, you in general act entirely different towards them, as compared to a video game where the person will never truly see your face, or know your name, the way you speak, your body language, this even goes for dangerous situations - often there are warnings signs such as body language, gestures, voice tone... you get the picture.(you think that little kid would keep calling that grown ass man a N word on Xbox if they where perhaps face to face? No. The term being anonymous which gives people freedom to become "trolls", to act unrealistic is the main problem) There is major morale differences that takes effect in real life on MOST (some people are just' freakin crazy) people that are put through a set of harsh circumstances. There is not negative nor really truly a endgame yet within DayZ. Having a bandit skin ain't bad. Change clothes if ya' disagree - thats not even close to a negative effect on a person for a negative action against' another player. Until they add more content to the game (having to fight off illness), add a bit more of a endgame experience(building better bases, even underground), and/OR implement some type of WORKING morale system into the game the end game is hunting of players, and player bases. They are the most effective loot spots in the game - and sure are fun attacking. If you do however notice from the topics of things the team wishes DayZ to have in the future - you can clearly see they are taking steps into the right direction - that they are trying to address these over all issues and make this once MOD, a true GAME. PS - If the woods scare you more then other players, that just means that you don't have good gear yet. I enjoy my life as a fresh spawn. That frantic pace to find matches, a axe, all the common regulars... without the fear of being killed because I've nothing of true value... those are the times that I often feel free, and have the more exciting experiences.

Everyone getting together, walking backwards, off the edge of the map, while pooping on your own clothes - will break the game. -
I hate walking dead the series....

Love the show - I still think that Rick be goin' crazy and that phone ain't really even ringing... Pull your shit together Rick. Pull your shit together. -
Damn man - so far all of your posts have been saying thanks, I wouldn't have said anything but I just took my normal stroll around the forums and I keep bumping into you saying... thanks. Please fix your signature its killing me now I've seen it in like 6 other posts alone tonight! ON TOPIC I'm kind of worried about the zombie AI to be truthful they don't sound like they've got as much love as they should have so far. I mean I know he said they'd get attention, and that they run in doors - I just hope they don't zigazag any more, and they don't hit us through walls. Another thing that has me worried lately is he posted on twitter I believe something about fixing a weapon error - they now fire in the right direction... hah You closed testers are gonna have your freakin' hands full.

Backpack along with all my ammo disappeared randomly...
finkone replied to riddk's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't get attached to your gear. Get attached to the experience the game has to offer. When I started, I'd live in the hills, collect things, and have a nice base to hang my hat, alllllll alone, at the end of the day. While it was a fun gaming style for a bit... after the server I called home died one day, and never came back... I have heard of players reporting items disappearing from being hacked in... since your hunger levels where so low - maybe someone was playing on your character some how and decided to give you pack away? Low ammo, low food... Did you start in the same position you logged off at?
