    Make Sniping more realistic

The point of zeroing is to counter bullet-drop. Your suggestion seems artificial though, it doesn't take two people to fire a sniper rifle, use a range finder, or estimate wind speed and direction. It might be more convenient, but shouldn't be necessary. I think the missing element to long-range sniper realism (and difficulty) might be the effects of wind in the regular mod. It appears that's what the ace mod has done, based on a glance at their wiki page. But, perhaps the standard "still in alpha" disclaimer applies- dayz is a zombie mod, ace is a realistic combat mod. Hopefully dayz will adopt as much as it can from other successful mods. AC

    Extreme FPS problems

Ok, back to basics then. I'll openly state that I've got no idea, just making suggestions that I hope might help. Do you share your internet connection with anyone else (roommates / family?). If someone is streaming, or downloading, that will have high impact. Are all / any of the other games you're thinking about for performance comparison online, or singleplayer? I've read, but cannot confirm, that the Arma engine is very CPU intensive; do you run antivirus / malware detection at the same time you play? Can you post your windows experience index figures please? Someone here might be able to compare yours to theirs for a similar system, and point out an issue. How does performance in Arma 2 compare? Can you run the testbench scenes, and post results? Hope this helps, AC

Worst way for your squad to go down

Without being an ass, how much did the fact that the guy combat logged change things? Op, you died due to a glitch, and the weird fragile gazelle legs we all have. Your buddy died because they got distracted by dealing with your gear and were caught unawares. The two of you were waiting for someone to spawn in. Being killed by the person you were trying to ambush at that point should make you step back and think about what could have been done differently to improve the outcome. Then you'll be a better player for the experience, and next time, hopefully you'll get away victorious. Don't get me wrong, combat loggers suck. AC

    Extreme FPS problems

Try blowing the dust out of your laptop with either canned air, or a compressor. If your fans and vents are clogged, it can really impact performance. I had a 3x to 4x improvement in fps on my old machine, after cleaning out the dust bunnies. Try running gpuz and check your mobo / gpu temps too. AC

    Share your noob stories

After maybe 2 weeks, same character, 200+ zombie kills, well geared, try to shoot a zombie, and wonder I) why my gun isn't firing 2) why the iron sights aren't showing 3) why Im looking at the little circular cursor ...oh shi...BOOM Lesson: Don't carry grenades in inventory, unless you're about to use them. AC
  6. To the op, perhaps the cco that you were given was a scripted item? Might explain the ease with which it was given, Kudos on keeping' on gettin' back up for more punches. Dayz, it's not about if, it's about when ;) AC

Hacker gave items, not sure what to do

Contact the admin(s) of the hive, and let them know exactly what happened before you login again. Either have the admins remove the items from your inventory, or next time you login put them all on a Zombie body, and hide it (bury it in the ground). IF there's a scripted item check on the server (and I'm just speculating that such a thing is even possible), you want to get all that straight prior to an automated script having permanent affect on your GUID. If you keep the items, you'll feel cheap. Hope this helps, AC

    The Brony Bus Exists!

Awesome bus, who did the skin on that? AC

    Looking for a Coyote backpack

Better to stick to an Alice pack. Coyote makes you stick out like a sore thumb, unless you have a Ghillie. AC
  10. Perhaps your graphics card can't keep up with the extra pixels it has to process? As a check, you could always run Arma2:OA in windowed mode at the same resolution as your old monitor. Hope this helps, AC

    Balota Buddies Servers

The flip side of the coin is that: 1) You have an Admin (or two) of the BB server replying in the thread 2) ...who was (were) able to guess your username, based on the description of events. 3) and who've invited you to discuss it. I'll admit, I'm openly biased, I play at BB, even though I get 300-400ms ping, playing from Pacific NW US. Why? It's a great community, it's well administered, with friendly people, and people there have good manners, even the assholes. But there's zero tolerance for shenanigans, hackers, and fuckwhits. If you've been inadvertently included in one of those groups, step up and speak your case, it'll be heard. If you've been correctly included in one of those groups, I'd say the admins did a damn fine job. Hope you get it sorted it out, AC
  12. Try the Stud Bar, 399 9th St, San Fran. I'm surprised you had to come here to ask, why not just use Google? AC
  13. Hope your ingame name isnt traceable to your forum monicker. Otherwise you're probably cooked. AC
  14. First of all, were you playing on a private hive, or a server linked to the public hive? Assuming you know specifically where you were playing (check recent tab, if you use dayz commander), explain what happened, and try asking the admin of the server if they'll roll back the database. Otherwise, I understand that you've got to be mad as hell, but this is just one of the things that we all have to deal with. For some reason, a significant enough fraction of the people who like to game online prefer to cheat. They're a minority, but their actions usually escalate to the point of having high impact on everyone around them. I doubt things will be 100% secure in SA either, so the "don't get too attached to your equipment" mindset is probably a good one to consider. ...and it is just a game :) AC (edit, spelling mistake)
  15. Are you certain the item was not scripted in? Did you pick it up from a dead player, a tent, or were you given it as a gift? I've never had a problem with ghillies, (3 found in lootable buildings so far, in 7.4.4). AC
  16. The new planes are crashed wrecks; there's a crashed mi17 (seen on a couple of servers) crashed osprey, crashed Hercules (seen on BB uk46, cherno) Flyable mi17 too ( seen on BB uk 46) I separated what I've seen and where because most of my recent time has been spent on a private hive, which may have a modified vehicle list. I know I saw a crashed little bird there too; the guys in TS said they'd wrecked it.

    Antibiotics are too rare.

Antibiotics are being made more common in the next patch; bad news is that infection chance from contact with zombies is going up by a factor of twenty. The game is supposed to be hard, enjoy the struggle ;) AC (edit, added "up")
  18. Let's stop throwing rocks, and perhaps rephrase the question a little. Who'd sign up for a single life, e.g. week-long tournament on a dayz map? I certainly would, Various kudos categories can be imagined; Most hours survived in game, least hours, most kills, most blood bags given etc. Endless permutations (holy shit, it could almost be a sandbox game), no squads, no clans, small squads, or just free play. Just my thoughts, AC
  19. It's the most intense gaming experience I've had in 30+ years of playing computer games. It's an alpha- it has glitches, bugs and hackers, and I still recommend it without reservation. If you think that spending more than $10 for a meal at a restaurant is too much, don't buy it- wait for SA, and see how that pans out. If you think that spending $15 for a meal at a restaurant is too much, maybe. If you think that spending $20+ for a meal at a restaurant, is fine, even once in a while, buy it, you'll get more than $20 of fun out of it over the next few weeks; SA may well be delayed too. Hope this helps, AC
  20. It's a sandbox game. What qualifies anyone to impose limitations? Play the game as a roleplaying game, play the game as a hoarding game, play the game to maximize or minimize whatever you want. The exploration of all possibilities will make the mod successful long term. I'm certainly not smart enough to predict what they are. AC
  21. To the OP: I suspect he'd be waiting for you, with a bottle of ketchup, and a very sharp knife. Unless, of course, he's spent the last several months playing in a survivor-universe that you've designed, coded and implemented. Yours, AC (edit, added first line for clarity)
  22. If you kill animals with the axe, don't they come pre gutted now? Thought I heard someone say that in TS last weekend. Though, if true, I suspect the poor OP will explode from high blood pressure. To the OP, this mod has many faults, but since there is a mechanism for gutting animals, and you didn't have the equipment for it, it's hard for most readers to be particularly sympathetic. Solutions: find food, find knife, find another player and get food or a knife from them, using good manners or bad. Prior to starving, you could also have quit out, and either come to the forum and asked one of the medics to come save you, or maybe achieved the same in the lobby of the server you were playing in. But, don't be too angry either; the mod is built within the confines of an engine not designed for what Rocket is using it for. There's also a critical message in your experience; in Dayz, the question isn't whether you will die and lose all your equipment, it's when. Your job is to enjoy the struggle in the interim. Hope this helps, AC

    Can't enter any server.

Have you entered any passwords to get into a server in the past few days? Is it possible that you're sending a password when none is required? AC
  25. I think most people have missed one aspect here. You're in the wilderness, presumably without toilet paper, clean water is a precious resource, and you have no soap. How do you avoid getting sick when everything you touch is now covered in bacteria, and you have to eat with your hands. In the crumbling of a civilization, I'd bet that the big killers in the first world nations would be the bugs that were formerly benign because of good sanitation habits. Less developed societies will have already built tolerance / immunity. AC
