It sounds like your getting spotted a bit too easy, always try to be stealthy. If you pull zombies around then everyone will follow them to you. And if you see a player with zombies after them play it cool. Chances are they too occupied with the zeds to see you if you sneak in closer. And I always have a pause behind a wall or something to catch breath before kill so the sights are good. Also as mentioned the editor is a great tool for learning anything arma. You tube has hundreds of tutorials.

Temperature for sure, its not needed anywhere near as much as it should be. I remember when I went on Celle and had to stop most times it rained and build a fire.

Sounds great, could have similar stuff with hand to hand, grab and hit style. Maybe make everyone a righty, so both survivors could grab, then have a blow for blow untill one gives up and tries to break it. And id love to see 2 survivors slowly circling with knifes, trying to gab eachother :D

I like the idea of "cells", iv wanted this for a long time. A while back I di an idea about including some community maps by leaving the roads off the main map.....but being able to then leave that map for another....just awesome. Could the map changes be done simply by a script that atomaticly logs you out, then into the new server, all hidden by a loadscreen. On a private hive I could see multiple maps joined together working well, but would it be difficult with public hives? just thinking that it not only has to save your gear but also the map your on, also any keys for safes would be useless in another public server group. And all for safes, only issue that always pops into my head is...what if someone kills me while I have my safe key but dosent take it. Maybe if the key is not on anybodys person and isn't in the game world somewhere, EG on a survivor body or inside a car, then the safe could be emptied and the key returned. Its a lil how tent cleanup works atm. -
I say put them back in just reduce the spawn chance to something akin to rangefinders. If 1 shot with an M24 can disable a car, then whats the issue with the .50's. These things existed before the apocalypse....so, unless the zeds have made a load of medieum stashes in the woods and hidden them all, they should during/after. Saying that hackers will just spawn themselves a ghilie and an AS50 dosent add up to me.....as it is they can spawn themselves a dmr/M24 and a ghillie and be just as deadly. The only thing that I like about no .50's is it makes sniping a lil harder...nothing that zero's and rapid fires.

That's a bit of a game exploit lol, but I see your point. Personally if I got away with my life and just minus a had id play on...just for the new experience. Besides survival is everything to me on dayz, that "DAY 6" or w/e on login is a lil badge of honour hehe.

Another gruesome but brilliant idea lol. Only prob I see is that guy is now limited to using a pistol until he dies.....maybe new item...Hook Hand ?:D Great way to identify thiefs and people could swap stories as to how they got there Hook lol

Your OP makes me think you don't know much about the game engine :P Pits will never work....SA is a revamped arma2, new locations and features...but still arma 2 engine and limitations. Bear traps ...already in, Trip wires....already in. And the tripwires can be used with grenades, flares and smoke.

No one is around to give you lessons....hence the purpose of the book. Yes things are different in games than in real life, but an idea like this makes it more realistic and adds to immersion. The whole goal with arma/dayz was realism. My point was that the ability to gut an animal is governed by a piece of gear.....so that you have to work for that ability. Flying a heli should be no different, it should be something you have to work for....ie. find the manual and all the parts. Another thought on this was it could have a new building to go with the system. A library somewhere. Books could still be found in markets schools and stuff, but only basic ones. The library would have a chance to spawn more books of more types. But military books should only spawn at high value military. -

When did I say they should doge bullets or run 10X faster than you? This would not only make them slightly slower over longer distances, but would encourage people to play QUIETLY as you said! making 1 zed much more of a threat than normally. These people have had there brains ravaged by this unknown infection, and that should show in the way they run. -

That's my point! they shouldn't be easy to kill.....that just makes it boring. Like I said the L4D devs had to address this with there second game and I think dayz devs could face the same thing if they just make them too easy. Trust me you will get much more satisfaction from killing a zed if its hard than easy. So basically if the zombies are hard to hit while moving you wont play, but if its nice and easy you will? Would you prefer easy to kill zombies that after a weeks worth of play you can headshot every one every time, even when moving.....or hard as hell zombs that can still catch you out when you've been playing for months :P -

Agreed people without the proper training couldn't do it. But that's the same for a lot of things in dayz atm. Like I for one would have no idea how to gut an animal properly even if I had a knife....but as a game mechanic its a good way to manage the ability. These books could be a great way to manage other abilities beyond the current toolbelt item like fixing cars or flying. Its never gonna be perfect but wouldn't it bridge the realism gap slightly? -

This would be even better with a chronic ammo shortage.....people would have to be even more stealthy around zeds. or you could end up wasting your only bullets on 1 zombie trying to hit the wobbling head. Also its nothing to do with survival.....like I said they wouldn't be ducking and weaving , more scrambling.....falling and slipping...how are these people who have had there brains destroyed by an infection still got perfect coordination to run without slipping. Another example I could do is if you see a criminal try to run away from the police...they can slip and fall repeatedly. That's because they are completely focused on getting away. In the same way a zed is focused on one thing....eating you....they aren't reading the ground and calculating there footsteps. -

Don't worry about no cd key message with beta patch....everyone I know gets same thing. You may have to reinstall...I think the steps are.... Install arma2 Run arma 2 once (jus to main menu and back out) Install arma 2 OA and run once Then download and install dayz commander Install dayz from the install/update tab Also install the beta from this tab Then you shoud be good to go :D -
Seen a couple of threads about hand signals, its a good idea and there are a lot already in arma to draw from.

So you ....without any instruction ....could fly a helicopter??? I think not. And even if you had read the book then you would need it with you for reference.....pre flight alone would take several flight lessons to perfect. These woudnt be books you could actually read....they would be books that just enable an ability....eg hunting knofe.....without you can kill an animal....but you carnt gut it. Heli book would work the same .....you can sit in a heli without it, but to fly you need it. Comparing firing a gun to flying a heli is bullshit lol, a gun has what maybe 3 things to interact with on it...trigger, safety and maybe sights zeroing. Now think for a second about how many controls and switches are in a helicopter.....no chance you are figuring that out without guidance. -

Im not saying they should shout "shit hes pointing an M4 at me" and start ducking and weaving. "they will run in a strait line because that's what they do" How do we know that's what they do? these aren't zombies technicaly....there infected...so if the infection messes with the brain then why wouldn't it effect there motor functions?? I just want the head to move up down left and right as they run at you trough a slight weave that could look like they are slipping and sliding around....then stumbling and getting back up. If we can fall over then they shouldn't only be able to....but should do so a lot as there brains have been torn apart by an infection. Its mainly a challenge thing .....a head that never moves except towards you is not a challenge to shoot....I want a challenge. -

KEEP PRIVATE HIVES!!! lol, personaly I don't like playing on public hive servers because of the people that can go gear in a quiet server then join a full one with full gear in a great position.....its completely unrealistic. Your server should be your home, and you should know the regulars. Makes tracking player movements actually a part of the game. That being said, mod servers and any form of modified hives should not be allowed. Only Vanilla Dayz. But if I had it my way every server would be a private hive! :P -

Yeah I understand why they do it....I just feel that they should keep it in as a feature, just improve on it. Watch, if they run strait at you in SA people will be moaning that its too easy within hours ;) -

I like this idea. Id have them as toolbelt items that limited how much you could interact. Just the way current ones do. E.G. you carnt fly a helicopter unless you have a "helicopter oppertion manual" on your toolbelt. Or you could have a toolbox but still carnt repair a car until you have a "Auto Workshop Manual". That would also mean that there would be a lot of different toolbelt items and no one person could carry it all (well maybe in pack). Then if in a group you could play roles, 1 as pilot, 1 as mechanic and so on. Also would slow people that can basically unlock all the abilities that already exist within an hour or so by filling there toolbelt. -

Hence replace it with the stumble animation....or make it look as if there running is haphazard, like loosing footing ect. -
All for auto walk key... in fact suggested it a while ago.. but not while tabbed. An auto-walk is needed for standalone, in arma not much need to run as you can just use vehicles at bases and stuff. However Dayz is going more for a RPG style, and if you look at other games in this genre most have it....im thinking Skyrim/Fallout3. It could be a lil immersion breaking, but isn't it the same as seeing an AFK player was just sat in a bush and even if you scream at him you will get no response. As other people said, you don't have to use it if you don't want to. But I for one do not wanna end up with RSI just to have a little more game immersion :P

As someone mentioned the BAF addon will make the textures for camo cloathing and some guns much better. Also the default survivor skin is from the PMC addon, most you tube vids are shot with this addon so you may have a very basic looking survivor skin. For lag your grapics and processor sounds fine, im smooth 99.9% of the time on a phenom x4 2.8ghz with a crappy eco GTS 450 graphics card. That with most settings on high and jus select things disabled likr post processing and AA. Theres a lot of guides for video options to get good results.

Yeah that's called loot farming....im guilty of doing it myself lol. But with new patch its 15mins before building respawns so its been combatted loads. Farming is incredibly risky though.....especialy at NWA with the easy sniper spot on each barrack. And that's my point....a CS is so much safer to loot than a barracks so the loot shouldn't be good all the time ;)
