    The now what question.

    There needs to be more PvE I think. There isn't enough of a challenge out there that needs teamwork and is truly challenging. PvP is then the biggest challenge a player can find. I can understand the KoS from boredom argument. I have logged on many times, run to the huey at camp, gone out in hero skin with just a pistol and bloodbags. Only to be shot by the first nab I help for the heli, then see him die roughly 2 mins later when hes found out how to take off. Have that happen about 20 times and you get tired of being friendly. Then theres having a tent full of snipers and not felling the urge to use them. Theres only so many "supply run to NWA" missions you can run before you get bored. Im guilty of just throwing on a ghillie and running to a city, taking pop shots till someone sneaks up on me lol. Its the only challenge left. Maybe give us something to do that's takes real teamwork and is rewarding could help. then again....there could always be backstabs afterwards ;)

    How do you get around?

    I like to be on foot or piloting heli. Foot is good for stealth, sorta in the treeline near roads. Can have some real fun in huey, but I suck as a gunner so pilot seat for me :)
  3. Hey guys For me my perfect server population is about 20-30 players. I feel like that's enough to have encounters with people but not be in a firefight every few mins. However I have friends that prefer servers with nothing less than 60 players, a bit too much imo. And a guy I know only really likes servers with low population, say no more that 15, his argument is that he wants a feeling of isolation from dayz. I guess its down to play style a lot, so whats your ideal?

    DayZ Backstory: How the Infection Began

    If this were the backstory id love to see BI add a bio weapon strike somewhere in the A3 campaign. You could be part of the team going in in hazmat to S&R. While your in the dusty streets the odd strange figure can be glimpsed running through the streets in the distance. Never more than a silhouette against the dust, moving in that arkward crouched run we all know so well. But your mission doesn't allow you to investigate it at all. Maybe nice lil hint to dayz.

    Make grass render further

    SA is a new game....sorta. So it should be more grapicly demanding that arma 2. You wouldn't expect to run BF4 if you were struggling to run BF3. Its the nature of games that grapics improve and hardware carnt keep up. That being said I have a 3 or 4 year old PC, that cost £350 (excluding grapics card because I already had one. I can force grass draw in configs to 1000m without issue, and that's running up to 150 AI. My specs Phenom 2 x4 3.2ghz 4gb DDR2 800mhz ram 2GB GTS 450 eco Normal 250GB HDD All dated tech, and not every setting on high...but most. And id guess that if I bought another £350 machine without a card now id be getting DDR3 ram and a much better processor. you don't have to spend loads to build a gaming rig. So get the grass view distance up devs! and I really hope that the view distance itself is much hiher in SA. Jus look at those dev blogs where its clearly set to the full 10k....maybe more if they forcing it ;)

    Servers when Standalone opens.

    Read that there was something about a server tools pack on steam DB. That would sound like steam aswell, most of the steam games I got have server tools in the tools tab of the steam library.

    Place better value on humanity system

    The only advantage heros get is that small increase in run speed. Im sure the vest is just part of the skin and doesn't give a damage resistance. Iv always thought that the hero should get a more camo'd skin as they more likely to wanna hide and avoid an engagement. Give the bandits a more brightly coloured skin so they pay the price in terms of stealth.

    SA Idea - Tutorial Mission

    Ok, my idea is that we have a small tutorial mission at the beginning of the SA. It would be completely optional and would just cover some basics of looting. The idea is to stop the hours of teaching a new player the ropes. Many of my friends from l4d2 came over to Dayz and I lost count of the times iv had to start at the beginning. Im thinking it could be set in Cherno and start you just outside the city. When your first waypoint comes up it pauses the player and a hint/mid screen text comes up explaining the waypoint. First waypoint takes you to the market. The first time you transition from grass to tarmac it pauses you and explains about the effect of running on different surfaces, stances, ect. When you get to market it talks you trough what can be found there and makes you pick up some beans. Next takes you to firestation and makes you pick up a gun. Then a small crowd of zeds could appear, you all get paused and some info on zeds pops up. After that you can kill these few zombies, and when they are all dead this starts the normal spawning of zeds. Last waypoint takes you to a tall building where you are picked up by a heli and flown out to sea. There could even be a natural transition strait into a random server after it to keep a "flow" going. Oh and a waypoint in there somewhere to explain a lil about fixing a car. Carnt see this being too hard to make using standard arma 2 editor mechanics (well apart from how to trigger the full spawning of zeds) and could help new players feel like they know something going in.

    Shooting open doors in SA..

    I like it would keep a flow to the zombie chase. Maybe kicking and shoulder barging doors for when you haven't got a gun.

    I prefer private hives for tracking player movement an stuff. bit useless if they can join anywhere on map with any gear ;)

    Best settings for spotting people

    Id never sacrifice those gorgeous graphics for a tactical advantage!! That's just awfull lol. But if you want to then go ahead, probably wont even help you that much though. Basically if you have most of the settings low as they would go with a very high res it will make it easier to see them.

    You can still have that feeling....jus skip the tutorial. I would skip it myself aswell ;). But out of the friends I brought over from L4D about 4 have spent an hour or 2 on dayz and never come back. That because they said they didn't have the time to run round learning stuff....or couldn't be bothered. Its sorta the casual gamer argument, for someone who just wants to come online and have some fun a tutorial could be great. Maybe even inspire them to continue playing. eg, "man I wanna find a car like on the tutorial"

    Idea to improve survival odds

    I like it, maglights are fairly common and are not a piece of "military" equipment. Many UK taxi drivers carry them in the door sills as protection. If it took a few swings to finish a zed, say 3-4, and maybe more for viral zeds its would seem pretty balanced. With item degradation aswell, you would still have to avoid zed contact as much as possible. If it was night and you broke your flashlight by clubbing too many zeds round the head with it you'd be screwed lol.

    Get an Alpha out!!

    Ok, im starting to worry that SA could end up DOA.....if it ever even arrives. Just look at the falling views on the dev blogs Im not moaning here I just want to raise some issues that are worrying me. Firstly is this Dead Nation thing. Im guessing its not an official dayz thing (might be wrong). I mean the website is a complete rip off of this one, and the gameplay is not far off the same. Some of the good stuff from the SA is gonna be the new weps, the mass inventory system and of course the updated map. Arma 3 has the mass system....and a huge range of new weapons and a completely new map to explore. I have already heard friends say that if the mod gets good enough they may not even buy SA. Another thing is, how long will it take a game company to "Ok, this is taking too long". I fear they may shelf it if the player base drops and moves to the A3 version. Also worrying that this may make them look at it from a purely financial standpoint, eg. deciding they missed the opportunity to cash in on its success. I think we need an Alpha asap, no matter how buggy. I mean did you see the state of the arma 3 alpha.....even to this day it dosent have a full compliment of vehicles or even a campaign. Maybe a similar set up with an SA Alpha....buy into it for 20 quid, help find bugs simply by playing it, and receive the full version on relace. Theres probably other points iv missed, so, what do you guys think?

    Problems with dayz mod

    I wouldn't use sixlauncher...stick with dayz commander, its very easy to use. Just to be sure follow these steps. 1) install arma 2 ONLY.....then run it once to main menu and exit 2) install operation arrowhead and run it once (might show as combined opperations) to main menu and back out. 3) download and install dayz commander 4) open up dayz commander and go to install/update tab 5) in this tab first make sure beta is up to date, then go down and make sure dayz is up to date If you missed out step 1 or 2 when first setting it up this could be the problem ;)

    make time more real for player task

    Id swap the values for blood and car....5 mins fit engine and 3mins bloodbag. But maybe add stages to each thing, that way if you have say waited 4 out of 5 mins for and have to break it for zed/pvp, then you wont have to completely start over. Fitting a wheel - stage 1 - Wheel on car - 1min Stage 2 - Wheel nut 1 - 1min Stage 3 - Wheel nut 2 - 1 min you see where im going...say 5 nuts, that's 6 mins to put on a new wheel. Same with bloodbag, maybe - Stage 1 - Wipe vein - 30 secs Stage 2 - Insert needle - 30 secs Stage 3 - Hook up tubes - 1 min Stage 4 - Wait for transfusion - 1 min That's 3 mins for Blood Bag

    Different foods

    Id like to see some food growing in the wild, stuff like.. Berrys Fruit Mushrooms (maybe with some side effects if you eat the wrong ones) Also in farms some stuff growing in fields like veg. Inspired from the bunny rabbits eating all the lettuce post....maybe be able to lure animals with food...like use your 1 salvaged cabbage to lure a rabbit and turn it into a bigger meal.
  18. Ok so I was looking at the ban appeals, mainly just to amuse myself with the excuses, or watch the hackers squirm. But something I did see was people following you tube download links for bogus SP Scenarios. Then getting there key stolen. Not everyone is net savvy and can spot a dodgey link. So I was thinking, I still have the old SP wrapper for DayZ, and wouldn't be a problem to upload it somewhere and post a link on here. Only problem is you have to roll back DayZ in commander to use it. What im wondering though is, would this be frowned upon? I know Rocket didn't react well to the SP thing, and asked the guy who made it to take it down. But with it being so old does it really matter now. People will always see a you tube vid of someone messing round in SP+editor doing some crazy stuff and want to try it out. Maybe this is a way the community could fight back against these CD Key stealing Mofo's.
  19. That sounds like a lot of variables, considering how buggy the engine can be with simple things lol. Overall I support this, even though I think its nice to reinvent yourself with each new life. But living with choices should be a part of dayz.

    I like it....maybe include animals. Used to love the pitch black nights when all of a sudden a cow would just wonder into the headlights....used to scare the crap outa me. And imagine the convo's....."still on your way mate?"......"Nah man.....hit a cow and trashed the car :("

    Just because no one has asked yet.....what does "full edition of arma 2" mean? Did you just get Arma 2....or Arma2 + Arma 2: Operation arrowhead. You need both to play ;)

    Mid/Higher end gaming comp - Low fps

    I woulda said drivers first but you have tried that. How old is the PC? I only ask because I have experienced FPS drops of up to 50% just because my heatsink blades were completely clogged with dust. I smoke a lot so I blame that, but maybe you have the same issue. A few other little things to try.... 1) hit, start, then type power...go into power options and make sure you have it on high performance so it uses all of you resourses. 2) make sure video memory is set to default in-game so it uses everything you have. 3) (I carnt see this being the issue if you have wiped your drive) but maybe try cleaning the registary with something like Ccleaner. 4) also a clogged GPU fan/heatsink can have a huge effect on performance, and if your CPU fan is clogged likely your GPU is aswell.

    So how many NVGS...

    Iv found enough NVG while iv been playing. But I remember times when I have hunted for weeks....eventualy found some....then my friends come join me on the server. I say something like "jus gonna stash my NVG at camp till later"....they reply "its cool man we got like 3 spare sets at our tents"....in 2 days!?!? Rangefinders....hah! maybe 1 actual find in my whole dayz playtime. The rest have been given to me or taken from bodies.
  24. Good guide, tried it out and all worked perfect. As for the whole pad vs M+KB thing I say use whatever makes you happy. A word to the wise though....people with M+KB will be able to aim quicker ;) that's the whole reason Microsoft scrapped making the 360 cross-platform so console and pc users could play together.

    STANDALONE: give value to life and REDUCE KoS!

    Id like to see the start a lot harder, making medical needs out weigh guns and ammo at first. But as for stopping KoS, im not sure... That's because with it as it is, someone might risk some loot to talk to someone, however if they have had to spend hours getting fit, then I think they more likely to just snipe ya before they go into town rather than risk there healthy toon to a backstab or firefight.
