Can public hives be whitelisted? I played on a great vanilla private that had a list. At first they were plagued by those script kiddies, but the list sorted that right out. They had an automated form so hackers could get in. But with the admins watching all server chatter from an IRC link, they would be removed quickly. I remember at first any player could access the IRC....even direct. Me and my friends had to convince the admins to put it so only they could watch it....as the bandit group kept snooping our direct chat lol. but when they did it was a nice place to play. -
True but il take an extra 10-20 secs loading and have some nice visuals, than just a black screen. :)

Yeah a vanilla private hive is hard to find, but when ya do, the immersion and community aspects are increased ten fold :) -
Sees car in field.... Approaches cautiously..... Puts hand on bonnet.... Oh its warm.... You are Dead! :P But this could be good to avoid pvp, you could check the car parked in trees at NWA. If its warm just go to sniper hill and watch trough bins till they move on. For every evil idea there is a good one ;)

Hey guys just read in another topic that loot will spawn in on server up, then be limited til server restart.....is this correct?? If it is I see a massive problem here, one that's already had to be addressed in the mod. Its the old crashsites problem, where someone would just log in at restart....find all the CS within 10 mins and leave no loot for players joining later on. So whats the score with this?

I love this idea....ya want a real KOS deterant here it is! Only id go further, chance for jam yep, but also chance of misfire. The misfire actually causing a small amount of damage to the player. With a very small chance to actually cause a bleed. I wanna hear about bandits dying because there uber sniper misfired....caused a bleed....and they had no bandage :). The helpless costal bambie would have no idea he just technically killed a bandit....or did the bandit kill himself with his evil ways lol. This would also give heros something else to think about when dealing with zeds. I guess I just feel that taking that shot on a helpless bambie could have dire consiquences....and could even kill you, even though that's not very likely :) -

I wouldn't mind this.....wouldn't have to explain anything just a little cutscene whilst loading. Could do it with a little bit of humour like in Dead Rising. All you see is some slow...panning or slow fly over shots of a few random towns. Then when the load is nearly done, you get sort of a slow chase of a survivor running away from some zombies in slo-mo down a Cherno road....text fades in "Welcome to Chernarus" ...camera does a fly into position behind your toon from 50/60 m away...as it does "Have a nice Day" Now your in and playing. Maybe make it feel a lil like a tourism vid....or jus like any other game cutscene showing off the map. Could make the game feel more polished than just black screen....load....go. That cutscene described above could have a flyby recording of every town on the map, and just randomly uses as many as it needs till your done loading. Wouldn't add any backstory, just some eye candy during load. Show off some of those new towns they made :) Just thought, might be nicer if the text was first "This is DayZ" then as you take control "Your Story..."

I want this! would be awesome to lure survivors. And if you could (to some extent) lure animals with it, that could be used brilliantly for loosing zeds....if, of course they make zeds chase animals. Id lure something to the treeline...quickly loot...then run strait back at the animal and let the zeds have a well earned munch, as I wonder off back into the woods :)

Damit....and my hive promotes themselves as "100% vanilla" lol...guess bike skin changes aint as bad as extra barracks and self bb an all that though :) P.S. what is the skin that's ment to be in vanilla? the flames one?

Glad to see this isn't a confirmed thing....jus let out a lil sigh of relief. The post I read regarding this went something like "its already confirmed that loot will spawn on server up and not respawn" Hopefully you guys are right and its just someone jumping to conclusions :) -

I still uphold that tis is gonna be a mistake.....trust me clans with veh convoys will pick the map clean before the new players get a look in. Get it all back to there camp and that's where the loot will live. Its proven with the heli crash system. This is basically turning every building into a CS that dosent respawn. Also I never mentioned care packages....im ONLY a vanilla z player......prefer private haives....but gotta be vanilla. Was just using that as an example of how having loot spawn on server up and not respawn has already proved a problem....and then has had to be changed. True that I can only carry so much on me......but then my 4 friends can carry there loot.....we all use backpack space and vehicle inventory. I have no worries we could beat everyone else to all the high value military and pick em clean within 20mins of restart (provided we have heli) This is a mistake!! lol -

so you wouldn't be gutted to log on 10 mins after restart.....say a 10 min run to NWA from your camp.....Only to find that that 6 strong clan that always has the heli has picked every military spawn clean in the 20mins since restart and theres nothing left? -
Parachutes should defo be added to the loot tables. Not just magically appear as we jump from helis. Maybe a system where however many chutes are stored in the heli is how many times someone can para from it. So if me and my say 4 mates have a huey with 2 chutes in inv, then only 2 guys can para out. Another nice touch could be to have an open chute spawn on the ground where you land, then you can pack it back up using the same animation used for....well....everything lol, the fixing a car type one.

Another thing that's been bugging me for a while and sorta carrys on from the bandit/hero skis is the bike skins. Whenever I find a motorbike its always either the green USMC one or that stupid flame coverd one, like this... Now I don't mind the dirt bike being in there, but why the USMC one or one covered in stupid vynal that wouldn't look out of place on a kids pushbike :P. Id rather see this dirt bike, and include the old moto, I think it fits the dayz-verse so much better than a USMC dirt bike.....

Yes....slow us down! .....A LOT! I see way too many posts reading like "but it only takes 30 mins to fully gear then all i have to do is KOS". Ok, now imagine that running to NWA is NOT something that can be achieved in a night....even if you run your toon to exhaustion. Now you have a real devision of players as you head north. You are not going to just run into a bambie who put a weight on the key and made it to NWA his first night on the server. This way a nights play could only consist of looting a city and maybe trying to make it 2 or 3 towns into the map that night. That dosent take anything away from the survival aspect....it in fact intensifies it. Imagine its day 4 and you and you buddy have finaly....fiiiiiinaly arrived at nwa. Imagine that heart racing feeling you get running in now....then multiply it by 10. Because now if you die you wont just run back there in 30mins. Its a proper new life....a proper fresh start. Theres no way your getting back to your body before the restart :P Also would help a lot with people who play like me on a new server.......Usually i get enough food and drink, then head strait for the map border. 1st night search east side, 2nd night north side. every time find a camp somewhere with a nice fixed car and some guns. Now if i had endurance and that would take 4-5 days to do....id think twice about it and would probably stay closer to towns. Also like the idea of them bieng slowwer than you.....untill stamina runs out. This adds a new thing to manage in game, a new tactical decision to make..."can i sprint to that building with my current stamina....or will i slow too soon and get mobbed by my train"

Mine comes from a challenge amoungst my L4D buddies to come up with 2 words that have your name in somehow. My name is Mat, so i ended up going with Karmaterror, unfortunatly this leads to my friends continuously calling me Car-Mat-Error......to there never ending amusement lol :)

SSD is Solid State Drive, not ya sound card ;). It replaces a normal hard disk drive, and performs much better. I recently bought a new PC for A3 because my older rig was getting a lil sluggish. new one gets me 40 fps everywhere in dayz (higher in woods and stuff) and it only cost me £350, dunno what that is in AU monies. AMD 6 core @ 3.4 8gb DDR3 ram 1gb r7770 500gb SSD SSD really isnt required at all but it does help. Also for the guy expecting higher FPS with V-sync on.....dont ;) V-sync caps you at 60 fps. I remember wondering why i never got more on L4D....then i tried it with v-sync off, and all of a sudden im pulling like 360fps :D

That guy wasnt an incompitent fool......he was just paniced lol You on the other hand..... Climbed a ladder within earshot of the player...allowing him to find you....FOOLISHNESS Then used a glitch to acctually get the kill.....INCOMPITENCE On a player that couldnt shoot back.....COWARDICE Do you hate yourself then?? :P -

Man the start of that post.....its like saying BF4 was a flop because it was harder to run than BF3 lol. Of course A3 will run slowwer than A2....not only has it got all the graphical updates, but a much larger map. Not seen dead rising 3 but i remember dead rising 2 had a lot of zombies....but if ya remember it was all instanced (if thats the right word), so you loaded from one small map to another. The small maps allowed for very high detail and large AI count. On a well populated dayz server you would still have as many zombies as on a single dead rising map. Only they are spread over a map thats probably hundreds of times the size of one of those little sections on Dead Rising. Battlefield benefits from having both small maps and no AI to spawn (well in deathmatch anyway) Thats why they can handle the destruction and awsome levels of detail. Its always a compromise in a game engine. Although i have thought to myself that dayz would do very well on the GTA 4 engine, i always stop and think, no. It dosent look anywhere near as realistic, its got no physics for bullet drop, it would probably fall to pieces trying to handle 100+ players. Arma 2 is great engine for dayz.....harsh, survival game....harsh, realistic (if demanding) military sim engine :) -
You wont have to worry about it working in dayz, once installed itl just work ;). I couldnt find any of the DLC on that GOG.com site. Maybe a retail copy of DLC would work. If all else fails consult google ;)

Arma 3 "sharring" Dayz's Chernarus Plus terrain?

This is a great idea IMO. Especially as SA wont be modable. This would let us use the A3 editor with Chernaus+ just for military play. Maybe seen as its an arma 2 rebuild just allow it on arma 2 combined opps. Only problem i can see is that someone would very quickly use the dayz mod files to make Chernarus+ a dayz map. Then that kinda steals a feature away from SA. -
Hostage-taking - probably a terrible idea

Not saying you should play any diffrent, and if you wanna keep jus running up to ppl that stick you up continue lol :). But what i would say is you are kinda missing out on a player encounter by just doing that. If you force the kill, thats the only outcome.....but if you allow the robbery to take place theres many ways it could end. They could turn out to be friendly and just approached it as a robbery to be safe. Or maybe an SVD wielding hero will see whats going down and come to your rescue. Or....of course....and most likely...they will jus shoot ya. But for me an encounter should be fully explored :) -

I feel that every month that SA dosent come out is another so many players lost. With the barrage of zombie survival games coming out at the moment its just a matter of time untill one arrives that truly rivals dayz. When it does it wont be built on an old engine, it will be done as a ground up project, and will appeal more to the masses. If that happens before SA arrives, then i think it will be DOA. All you will have is the die hard players who followed the mod playing...all moaning about the new mainstream game and telling everyone how dayz was the daddy. All while we hunt for a server with more than 10 players.
