Dayz - The engine of disconnected unresponsive controls

In Games like GTA the vehicles/civs only spawn in a radius around the player. They aren't populating the entire city all the time. With dayz you can have 40 people running round spawning stuff in (well when it gets turned on). Imagine GTA trying to populate its map with 40 player radius zones to populate. Im not blindly defending SA im just saying it can at times have a hell of a lot more AI in it than a game like GTA. -
Theres lots of threads about loot and zombie respawn. I hope both are turned on eventually. Woldnt feel like a "persistant world" if loot didn't respawn. Plus it just encourages server hoping :(

They are all gameplay features....to be added further dwn te line. Right now secure stable servers are what we need. Its like building a house. Need strong foundations :)

Night time isn't too dark.... Most places have heavy light pollution. If you go to a remote area of countryside you will be shocked just how dark it is without streetlights...car lights, light coming out of every window. Yes in the first stages of night its pitch black....but when/if the moon is out and the clouds are thin you can see pretty well. Last year, for new year, I climbed a mountain (well more like a hill) in wales. It never dawned on me to take a torch. When I got there I regreted that instantly. I couldn't see my hand in front of my face when we got away from the car park. Nor could I even distinguish what was a puddle on the floor and what wasn't. Ended up falling over countless times and stepping in more puddles than I want to remember. My point is that when theres no man made light anywhere for miles....its damn dark!

I think anti hack and server stability are top priority atm. But when they start working on gameplay more, I think this will be one of the first things addressed

I think ya just gotta bind a key to swap to 3rd person (in mod was num pad enter) Get those lag issues on the official feedback tracker thing, see "bug reports" pinned thread :)

I like it! Don't listen to the peeps saying it looks "generic" it looks like a really nicely polished version of the inv. Im sure there are already plans for the in game inv, but I hope that the devs see this and maybe draw some inspiration from it. Have some beans :) -
Don't see it being too hard visualy. Theres already gas masks for arma 2 that give an overlay to restrict view in 1st person. So overlays for glasses and stuff should be poss. Havent a clue on sounds though, would be cool to have everything a bit muffled when wearing a helmet :)

Its just baffling me lol....without a single light ray to even light that painted "skybox" night texture how could we see it? Iv just got a picture in my head of (I think its) hammer editor where if there isn't a light source somewhere you carnt see a thing. Everything outside your torch may aswell not exist lol -

yeah but there is slight shiluete visability against a slightly lighter sky because of the moonlight....without it wouldn't everything just be solid black....I mean 100% stuck in a void black? -

STUPID QUESTION ALERT! Isnt the moon our only light sourse at night....if the moonlight its self was gone then wouldn't it be pitch black. There would be no shadows or anything?? -

Maybe in future you can pour it into a can and place the can back in a loot pile. Then watch trough scope as guy comes out of the market throwing up everywhere....might also make it esier to handcuff/detain people :)

This is one of the reasons loot and zombie respawning should be very near the top of the dev list. Like you say with no loot respawn people can server hop inside buildings and know instantly wether its been visited or not. And a big yes to private hives (see my post in "server owners get nothing") Nice to hear about those plans for private. Should give us the best of both worlds, private hive, but keeping it vanilla :) -
Ok pleeeease no one tell me its an alpha....I know lol What im reading hear is disheartening me loooads :( From this thread im gathering that there is no new server/client architecture. Wasn't this like the first thing that was confirmed for SA, and to a point, the reason for making SA? Rocket come and set our minds at ease here lol EDIT - Aha you already did :)

PRIVATE HIVES ROCK!! Everyone needs to stop confusing "private hive" with "modded server". There are awesome private hives out there running vanilla z. Also they DO help fight hackers trough things like whitelists. The main reasons I like private hive over pub... 1, No Ghosting....this was gamebreaking for me early on playing the mod. I hated the idea of people going into a 0 pop server and then joining a high pop in the perfect sniper spot with 10 mags and loads of food and drink. That's almost as bad as having starting gear....they never have to fight past the players on THAT server to get the gear. 2, Community....When that server is your "home" server you get to know who the regulars are. Who are bandit groups and who will play nice. A lot of concessions are made between groups about camps and stuff (but theres always 1 or2 full on bandit groups). Its more about long term survivability on private hives for me. 3. Consiquences....So on a pub hive you piss of the main group on that server....oh well lets just swap server and carry on with all our gear and no come back. On a private hive if you piss off the main group (and I know this from experience lol) they will hunt you down again and again, can become clan wars up north. 4, Anit Hack......Lots of private hives run a whitelist. this is great and allows a hacker never to return if removed from the list. Not to mention the other anti-hack scripts.

Why isn't my quote button working!!! Anyways in your reply to my post you ask why they would relece an alpha like this. I gave you 3 good reasons....none of which you addressed in your reply. The game is not ready....therefore is not out. What is out is a pre relece alpha for bug testing. By buying it you are saying that you want to participate in the games development. Not that you want a complete game to just play. As a bonus you will get a discount from the retail price. Is that not completely fair? Is that not akin to paying every person who assists in bug testing 20 quid or 30 dollars?? -

I think SalamanderAnder is right. Its the higher density of buildings is giving the illusion that your traveling less distance. Watched nearly every vid I can get my hands on since it came out and scaling dosent seem to have changed atall. Wasn't the plan to extend the map into the north/east...is that already in SA or is that something for later down the line? -

Read the everything you need to know that rocket posted. The resons for a paid for alpha are... 1, Makes the project financially viable 2, People who participate have made a financial commitment 3, Limits the ammout of people who participate to those willing to part with there hard earned cash This is completely fair. A free alpha would lead to snap reviews by every tom dick and harry. People would join the free alpha not understanding it fully and think it was a finished product. If they have to pay they will do research first and make a more informed decision. Also you have to remember if you buy into alpha you will get the full game on relece, so its really a discount on the retail price.....that aint a bad thing at all. Edit - Also would you not prefer a game where the people playing it have an active input on what features should and should not go in. A game where one of your own ideas could help to shape gameplay. As apposed to the devs ignoring the fanbase....doing only what they want, and creating something that isn't what people wanted. -
Can 3rd parties host servers yet? Got a friend who right now carnt get a slot on any server, he said hes more than willing to pay a hosting place to do one for him but dosent know how. So....is it poss, and if so how lol?

Hey guys, iv decided to hang on buying SA for a couple of dayz till my new graphics card arrives, hopefully Thursday :). So for now im just watching some vids. Seems like there aint many zombies and they aren't agroing easy like in the mod. Just watched some guy running up and down roads in cherno without a train, in the mod if ya run down one of those main roads youd have super agro after ya lol. So what are the zeds actually like from someone whos played??

I think this is down to loot not respawning and the food/drink being set a bit too fast. Soon as loot respawns ya should be finding enough stuff, and appearntly some foods actually dehydrate ya ;) -

It seems zombies and loot only respawn on server restart....so if the server has been up for a while then people might have just killed the zombies and taken the loot. It is planned to get it all respawning though ;) -
