Beans for sharing this. I fully support giving modders the tools they need to pump out great content. Hell without a modding community we wouldnt have dayz. P.S. That map looks reall really nice, hope its avalible to download for arma 2/3 aswell as dayz when its finished :) -

Read it all....you are moving your mouse in dayz too fast!! lol. Slow the movment down and you can 360 in about the same time as an "ego shooter", the only time you are penalised is when trying to move too fast. There is no limit to the speed you can turn in dayz .....as long as you move at a CONSISTENT speed. Sensativity has no effect at all...its ALL about wether you move consitently or wether you accelerate as you turn. Im gonna have to make a vid to show this to people lol....whats good recording software besides fraps? -
We make our own currency based on what we need. Iv traded NVG on the mod for a morphine shot before now. Or had a guy give me 400 SAW rounds just for a drink and a meal. We dont need a global currency because there is no store on the map setting the baseline for prices. And there shouldnt be, the world has collapsed, life, and currency, as you know it, are dead :)

The problem is for everything they put in there needs to be a counter, otherwise the guys with the tank would be invincible. If they were to go in then we would need rpg's or .50 cal rifles again. And then why wouldn't we just play arma for that fix of high end mill gear combat. A smaller much more vunerable chopper could be better, but just down to the speed and "go anywhere" nature of them i wouldnt want them in. Its easy enough to start swinging and avoiding fire, then just dip below the next rise to be out of danger. We always just used to leave ours running with noone in it lol. Just spool up then hit eject....not get out, and instant ready to go heli :) Maybe with both TOH engine and a small none military helicopter (ohh yeah and no more than 1 per server if they did!) it could balance out. Suppose i wouldnt mind 1 small heli with crap load space but (obviously lol) vtol, then an an-2 with really good load space but hard to land outside of an airfield or very large field.

You do know that rockets initial vision had nothing to do with zombies at all. He wanted to make a pure survival game. It was only later that zombies were added to make the game more "mainstream" and add a constant threat to the player. I dont mind if the 2 did sit down and chat, but i feel that roeros input would more benefit a linier story based game like the walking dead episodes. With this being a sandbox in witch the player tells the story, there isnt any real storytelling to be done by the devs. And thats where romero shines, tense, suspense packed story telling.

I always used to have my base at zelen in the mod. Noone ever went that way and i liked the 3 markets up the west side of the map. SA ruined that, so much mill loot round there it will never be quiet again :( lol

Yep the vehicles need and are getting a full overhaul. Personally (although i would love to see it) years of sim racing have taught me that manual clutch just isnt possable on a keyboard. Sure its doable, but it would never feel right at all. Best bet, like others have said is a semi-auto box. Clutch is taken care of but shifting is done by the player. As for helis, i dont like the idea. They are overpowered by a mile, and not just for picking people up. You can scout the entire map edge in around 10 mins. Find and destroy any camps out there in 20. Then be back at base after checking all the mill spawns in 30. What i would like to see is a plane....like the AN-2 that found its way into a lot of mod servers. The advantage/dissadvantage with a plane is its inability to vtol. If they made it a lot harder to land, and the distance required to take off and land was uped, then it couldnt be used the way helis are. Sure you could get from north to south pretty quick, but you are limited on where you can safely land :)

Ok so im back on the mod while i wait for next big SA update. But i carnt seem to find a tent, iv checked maybe 10 markets and nothing :(

Ok heres just a few thoughts/ suggestions from my time in SA so far. Player Spawns - We need spreading out along the coast again i think, preferably the south coast. Put some distance between us and make getting north difficult. Balota - Balota imo should be portrayed as a civy airfield. Maybe 1 or 2 mill tents somewhere with some sandbags, just for a couple of soldiers to be posted at. Not loads of barracks. Move the barracks to NEA and have us all spawn on the south coast. New mill base south of Zelen - This should have a lot less mill loot, maybe make it more of an industrial location (JCB to repair? :)) Same again with 1 or 2 military tents, just as if some soldiers made camp there. Now players will have to push north to get mill gear, unless they get lucky on the coast. I also think adding 1 or 2 mill tents to the big citys would be ok aswell. Just no high end barracks on the coast. I just feel when loot respawn kicks in there is gonna be no reason to head north. No one will play the survival aspect so much when they can just gear quick and have a nice coastal deathmatch. They could place a few barracks on the island, and assuming we still drop gear when we swim, it would stop people getting high end rifle with the only purpose of killing fresh spawns. Put 2 barracks there with a bit of distance between then and you have the island made for casual deathmatch players. They dont play to survive so they wont be bothered about taking the gear back to the mainland. And the island will attract more people looking for the same thing...instant action :)

Yeah more spawns for sure, and if they are going to spawn us all on the east coast then maybe portray NEA as a civy airfield. Keep Balota mill loot (maybe a bit less barracks) then it and NWA are the new places to push for.

I see what ya mean, also if they add citys to the north you would have cities on either flank to choose from as you push west for mill gear. Maybe im not seeing the big picture yet lol. Still think having the island as pvp paradise, and some spread out spawns could be cool though :)

This is common sense at its best, server options means that we dont have to loose one or the other :) After joining its only 1 key to test it out, and be sure :) -
I wouldnt mind that, just alter the terrain and expand the civy town :)

not sure about dev diary, they do have tumbler and stuff. Maybe we will get one around feb, or when something big happens. P.S. Dunno how ya did it, but maybe not use black txt ;)....anyone else just highlight txt in first post :)

o im looting trough Stary and I see a zed chase someone into the market. I proceed to the market and see the guy killing zeds at the back.I wave from the door to show im friendly and after he kills his last zed he waves back. We both take some stuff from the market, then I wave goodbye and go to loot another house. While im looting I see hes followed me into the house. I don't really mind as he seemed friendly so I just leave and head towards NWA. Iv only been running down the road a few seconds when he comes barrelling past me in sprint axe swinging as he goes.....I still give him the benefit of the doubt and leave my axe on my back while jogging. Suddenly he gets a hit in and im bleeding.....that's it! I draw my axe and we start dancing round eachother swinging axes. After a few seconds I manage to kill him. After getting some extra food and drink I carry on my way. Let this be a lesson to all you little backstabbers.....just because some of us play friendly dosent mean we wont kick ur ass if you try something :P -
You negate that very argument....you kill on sight....but are a die hard 1st person advocate.... Kill on sight is purely down to the mentality of the player, i use 3rd a lot, but im a friendly player untill fired upon.

There is also no reason....none at all to completly remove 3rd. Espeially when 1st person servers exist. All that is is forcing a gamplay style on people who dont want to be restricted to one point of view. Its forcing your preference. How is catering for both styles a bad thing? And dont say exploits....because any third exploit dosent effect you in the slightest on a 1st only server. -

Its sad but probably true, and don't get me wrong i love fps games. But i also like slowing down and enjoying 3rd person. At the moment dayz offers both, those that are that bothered about it can go to 1st only servers. Personally i don't mind so much if some guy peeks a wall to see me for what's added in other areas. If you were in a restaurant and they served 2 dishes, you wouldn't demand everyone else eat the same as you, because thats what you prefered :) -

In combat im in 1st....outside 3rd...why should i loose 3rd when its quiet? im gaining no combat advantage. Most good RPG's have 3rd to aid storytelling and buildig a relationship with your toon. How will your gameplay improve tenfold.....when you are already playing on a 1st only server? it wont :) -

Screw you guys lol! 3rd rocks, ok so its got flaws, but you guys act like everyone using 3rd is looking round every corner, its just not true. I use 1st for combat (as do most of my friends), because 3rd sucks up close. That doesn't mean I want to be locked to it all the time I play. You have to see the game as more than just a combat simulator now. Il never understand why people aren't happy with the hive split, maybe because the servers aren't as populated as they hoped :P While it may be for some, for me 3rd isn't a crutch or a bandage, its a storytelling tool. It adds a dimension to the game, seeing your survivor interact with the world adds massive immersion. Removing it would feel like the game was moving back towards Competitive deathmatch shooter, not towards Survival horror RPG :) -
I think 1 month (or just over) is a maaaaybe a little early to say "hacks will kill this game" lol. Yes its frustrating but so is lack of features, but like those will come with time, im sure hackers will fade with time. Signing up for an alpha is kinda saying you will put up with it for a chance to watch the game grow :)

If anyone thinks guns are too rare now, i think you are in for a shock when its finished. As it stands theres so many items that arent even in the loot tables yet. Even just things from the mod, which will probably be expanded on just like the food and drink. Heres just what i can think of off the top of my head... Vehicle parts - Engines Wheels Scrap Metal Fuel Cans Windscreen Glass Main Rot Tents Barbed Wire Sandbags Tank Traps Then imagine theres about 20-30 guns. A lot are civilian models, and not very good. Ammo is rare, and so many types that finding matching ammo for your gun is hard. Then imagine every loot pile has a high chance to spawn one of 10 "junk" items, like empty tin cans , or toilet roll..... Welcome to Dayz :) -
Litterally every function that was scripted in the mod is being rewritten to work on the server itself.....without any scripts. I think its to help vs hackers, so any script injection of any kind is cheating. That will take a lot of time, sure they could just pull features from the mod and use the old scripts. But then whats the point of the SA lol. I think we will see features from the mod roll out very quickly, once this whole network bubble, and server stability are sorted. They needed mass players to stress the servers out and test it, so that when features do arrive they can handle it.

The day SA came out i uninstalled the mod.....2 days ago i put it back on lol. I dont want to explore everywhere and make the SA seem old before its even anywhere near finished....but i still needed my dayz fix lol. For anyone having trouble finding a good vanilla server....i found one called "Dreadz", got everything i needed from a server. Its Vanilla, Private Hive and so far iv seen it with about 20 players at peak. Found it (and others) by searching "vanilla" in dayz commander :)
