The islands offshore on the coasts should have a better purpose rather than it to be sniper hills :/
Karmaterror replied to rydekk's topic in General Discussion
I really want skalsky (spelling argh lol) gone, give us new islands ranging in size dotted up and down the coast. Keep loosing gear if you swim so its almost an endgame thing, for placing camps on. Also move them out a bit, over 1000m, so sniper shots are hard. Since they didnt add a river that would give boats a real purpose :) -
See now thats one of the things i love about dayz, you could be the most geared up player, pretty much have it all. Say you need a toolbox though....and then (mod again obv) you hear on general chat that a noob freshspawn has one...its great. OK now most would just shoot him for it. Our group prefers trade, that toolbox is infinately valuable to us, but maybe not worth much to him as he carnt even carry all the car parts to fix one. We have given away some excellent gear just for simple things. My personal "can never find it" is a box of matches lol :) Awhile back i did post an idea about skills, my method would be to have the books gain certain skills much the same way current gear items do. Its not too gamey and holds pretty true to life. We mostly study a subject before we try it practically anyways. Some example would be... Find a Heli...Awsomes...but you carnt fly it untill you have the opperation manual. Find a car and toolbox.....still carnt fix it without the "worshop Manual" or whatever. Having a book for either a certain ammount of time, or reading every page a few times (once a day ofc ;)) could mean that you can now perform that task without the book. Give it to a freshspawn or something, or make a tent into a library. Now thats sort of skills, and if they added enough trough books it could mean that player life value goes right up, depending on what books you have read. A qualified pilot toon that can fly without the book may take up to a week or something to achieve. Maybe they planning something like that, because as it stands i carnt really see a use for books. What would you think about that as almost, but not quite skills?

Heres why i dont like a skills system....we already got it. Except we dont have gamey little skills trees, perks or anything like that. The skill rests with the player and there gear. Ganna go back to the mod for example....I pick up a toolbox...I now have the ability to repair cars, I gained a skill. And now i dont want to die because i have that skill. But i dont need a gratifying little "level up" or "skill aquired" thing to tell me. The other point is experience, players do get better at all aspects of the game as they play. They will get better at using each gun as they use it. Now i do think that skill system would be ok in as much as when you die you loose that experience. But that brings me back to my other point, if we aquire skills through gear, are we not loosing those skills when we die?

What files exactly did ya delete and from where? Sorry didnt see 2nd post lol. All your save game stuff is saved on the hive not locally. A fresh steam account should have no issues at all, have you changed anything else at all? Try reinstalling steam, and then verify the game cache after you reinstall it. You do that by right clicking the game in steam library, then go to properties, then local files, then should be a button to "verify integrity of game cache"

Have you tried a defrag of the HDD? Apparently that worked for some. Also did you clear out anything dayz related in documents aswell as common when you did the install. Maybe try that plus a reg cleanup with defrag using ccleaner after the uninstall, but before the reinstall.

Locking sound when trying to open a "locked" Door.
Karmaterror replied to alaskafish (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
While it could be cool, i dont really see a need for it. Only because ya know its a fake door when no action menu stuff comes up. Maybe right towards the end of development as a bit of "polish" :) PS, this is maybe one for the suggestions section ;) -
When i read title i kinda thought it was gonna be to dupe people. Like shoot myself in the leg then wait for someone while screaming for help lol. But for it randomly going off in your pants, couldn't we just use the safety. Maybe add this and a safety switch aswell, then its your own fault if it goes off because you didnt put the safety on :)

Just call this guy....Oh the fun we had on the nimitz with these things :D LTL rounds could have similar effect but just without the complete incap. Maybe crawl only and blurry vision for X amount of seconds :)

OK so im confused atm....I know...that in its self isnt surprising...but.. Whats with everyone thinking that when private servers come out people will be able to mod the shit out of it, or enforce PvE only, or generally mess with Dayz. I was under the impression that when they did come they would be opperated on the main database, or shards of it. Allowing for server "groups". But also that the data would still be managed by the dayz team. As I understood that would give all the benefits of a private community, but keep it "vanilla" Dayz. Now with that being said I know modding is also a long term goal. But will we at least have a year or so where the private hives remain un-tainted?

Beans for this one :) I remember all the doctor dentist face skins for A2/Dayz mod. Running round as freddy or snake was awsome, and there was a huge selection of face paints already in arma that you could choose from by editing a line in player profile. Having something in the game would be great for customisation.

Are people opting to play SA more than the mod?
Karmaterror replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
They all just KOS, day and night lol Id like to hear what people do aswell. I explore or try to interact, but when you have seen most of the new map and carn't find anyone to interact with....running round just gets boring. At least in the MOD i can try to fix a car or build a camp until interaction occurs naturally. -
Are people opting to play SA more than the mod?
Karmaterror replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
I did the same. I drop into the SA a lot but get bored very quickly. The mod just offers.....well.....more at the moment. Its got basebuilding, vehicles, loads more guns and loot in general. Dont get me wrong...i love the SA and i know at some point it will surpass the mod in every way, the food drink system already makes the mod's feel simple and old. But for now il be spending most of my play time on the mod, until the SA gets more.....beef :) -
Played a lot of the "life" mods, not much Altis yet but loads of Chernarus. I think a standalone could do well, but not as well as dayz. Life never took over the way dayz did, sure by the end in A2 there were basically 3 options...Life, Wasteland or Dayz. Some Domination servers live on but not many. Id say its around 70% Dayz, 20% wasteland/life and 10% original game modes or domination. Maybe thats changed a bit with the SA being out, havent really browsed the servers in A2 for a while. Personally i think they backed the best of the mods that came out of A2, and while backing another wouldn't be a bad thing, I dont think the demand is as big as with dayz :)

So s this going to be global Dayz stats tracking, or just for your servers? The Mod servers i used to play on had stuff like this and was good for all kinds of things. Identifying who was a bandit, or who moved around a lot. And for settling disputes...like "dude i jus owned you with 600m M4 shot"....."proof or it didnt happen".....quick visit to stats page..."you asshole!". They were private servers though, if this was to work globaly and on pub hive it could be awsomes :)

Just click where it says your name on the main menu then type away :)

Weird Mouse movement DayZ standalone.
Karmaterror replied to Nibiru (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
That's the point of negative acceleration, up to a point the mouse will respond normally, but move it too fast (like you would in a normal fps game) and it will punish you ;) Its supposed to stop you doing twitch shots in fractions of a second. But from what we see in the vid its effects vary way too much from player to player. Once you adapt to making slower more controlled movements it should be fine, its just a matter of finding that "sweet spot" where it responds but doesn't pick up any acceleration :) EDIT - Just done some tests with this in-game and it seems to me that you can rotate a hell of a lot quicker with a weapon in your hands than without. Maybe its trying to simulate the inertia of the weapon moving or something. Give it a try and see if holding your weapon helps atall :) -
Heres what i see here, OP dosent discuss a thing, just analyse every post and make some remark based about something that has no relevence to the discussion, but that he can be right about. Now from some of the posts i see OP dosent like people "running to forums to complain about KOS"....so let me ask you this Is playing as a friendly just as valid a playstyle as bandit? Could someone playing a bandit be just as annoying to one person as someone playing friendly to another? Is making a topic that complains about friendlys equally as pointless as a topic that complains about KOS? I often go to the coast to attempt to help people. I don't force any help, I only offer it. If they say no I leave and look for someone that will want it. But heres the thing, helping people IMO entails much more risk than hunting them. Helping means I have to expose myself, not just shoot from 300+m and stroke my ego over it. I want a challenge from the game, and the situations that arise from trying to be friendly can be more than playing bandit. For example if I see you, and manage to get close enough to let you know im there. But then find out that you actually hate being offered help and try to kill me....thats a lot more fun, and challenging (as you already know where I am, and have the advantage of knowing im friendly) than just popping you when I see you search a loot pile.

Weird Mouse movement DayZ standalone.
Karmaterror replied to Nibiru (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
lol love that scream at the end of the vid 27 :D @ ErichZann The acceleration only applys to 1st person, there isnt any in 3rd i dont think. Im guessing you switch to 1st to loot, and thats where the problem is. Try upping the sensitivity a bit, and or messing with the DPI on you mouse(if you have it). I tried some tests with this, using a friends mouse and did notice that on high DPS the accel was a lot more prominent. And you are sure that you are moving in slow controlled movements, not 3 quick wrist flicks to spin 360? Some of it may be people just not understanding how it works, but even with that it shouldnt vary so much player to player. There has to be a setting somewhere that we missing. Il post a vid of SA later if I can, including my settings for mouse and stuff. If we all do the same maybe we can get to the bottom of it :) -
Hey OP, I know it sucks when people just KoS all the time, but it is a part of the game. You wouldn't get that constant fear/paranoia if they were all gonna be friendly. I too feel that running north has no purpose....at the moment. I would advise giving the mod a try, maybe when steam has A2 on sale for like a fiver. When you play that there is real purpose in heading north. You create a buffer zone between you and a lot of the combat happy people, and with base building have something to work on up there. I find that I meet a lot more friendlys up there aswell. Playing the mod a bit might give you more of an idea where the SA will go, as I believe many of the features will still be in SA just heavily improved upon. The food/drink system is just one example of how much more in depth things in the SA will be. It may even restore your faith in the game a bit seeing what it can become with more features. Either way the game at this stage carnt reflect the way people will play it when its finished. Maybe let them at least get core features in, that will distract players from KoS, before you write off the game ;)

How I have stayed alive for 6 weeks on a single character
Karmaterror replied to knar33's topic in General Discussion
You don't get wiped with every update, it normally due to the server maintaining its connection to the hive or something. By having a list of trusted servers, or like me just stick to one, then you can almost completely avoid ever having your toon wiped. -

Nice, mines been alive for a few weeks following pretty much same rules....except I trust stairs lol Iv stuck to one server since the start of alpha and haven't had 1 wipe ;) -
The current implementation of the logout timer is trollish.
Karmaterror replied to airtonix (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
One thing I don't like is that our groups resident bandit is now talking about stalking people and killing when they log with no risk lol. I think he just found a glaring bug with this system. If we could have both it would be good, so you can sit and wait if you want, being able to break the count. But if you DC or alt f4 even mid way through the count, your guy stays in place for the rest. Just a normal DC would mean your guy sits and starts the count, log back in within 30s and regain control :)
