The Current Combat Log System Dosen't Work
Karmaterror replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
I see your point, at the end of the day its on the player, but il stick to my guns on this one. A live system has a much better chance of ending with an interesting interaction, the pics I put in the OP show that. Maybe im the only person who finds it immersion breaking to shoot bots that don't move lol Anyway I saw in recent Q&A that the logout system is a WIP, for me there is hope, so lets wait and see :) -
You make a left-handed option in the character development menu.
Karmaterror replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Is this to help when the gun is on the "wrong" side aiming round a corner? Because I remember a game where you could change stance so it swapped sides. Maybe a feature like that could be good aswell, so we can change it on the fly. Could pick a native in toon menu then, have an accuracy debuff if using your non native stance :) -
I keep the P menu open while I lay in my nest. I define a hopper as someone who logs in and is inside balota barracks within 30 seconds. You soon see who the none hoppers are and can focus on watching for that new player.....close menu when they join and go to scope....low and behold few seconds later full tacti cool guy runs into the barracks lol :) PS Im sure some innocents do get caught up in the mix, but for the most part that is the MO of a hopper so il continue to shoot them aswell. ;)

Thiss one comes from playing the mod on servers with Global Chat. I kind of miss the txt popping up of someone saying, "you down there in electro....i seeeee you!" or whatever. Justthe ability to communicte over distance without a radio. So.....how about a megaphone that if you hold it in your hands it upps your direct comms range to 1-200m. Could lead to some great standoffs and negaotiations. Also entering a town where a bandit group is using it to try and get someone to surrender could be fun :) So, what you guys think?

Another idea, probably far-fetched though
Karmaterror replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
That's a really good point. Id never thought about it before now, but it instantly made me remember the no corpses or something in a certain country in L4D2. Isnt there a chance some countries might even have a problem with some of the games current content? eg, handcuffing and force feeding someone bleach. -
Yeah this games all about double taps....double W for sprint, double shift for toggle walk, double caps for open mic......and double tap that player....just to be sure ;)

Didn't the devs say most sounds are placeholders for the moment? I want something that sounds like the DMR from the mod, now that had a satisfying noise when you pulled the trigger :)

Persistent storage containers; do you like the idea or not?
Karmaterror replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
Il bow out after this one because il keep repeating myself lol. If I build a base then I put effort into it, if there isn't a big enough reward I wont bother. Now it dosent take anything away from permadeath for these reasons... 1, it too has perma death....at any time you could loose your entire camp. 2, ok so you can regaer.....but only quickly if you make camp by the coast....if you do that it wont last. 3, if you camp in a reasonably safe place a death will still put you up to an hour away from your campsite. 4, that hours run will still entail facing everything the game has to offer on the way there. 5, theres no guarantee you will make it back to your camp, you could get close, then get shot, another hour trying to get back 6, anything in that camp you had to make a trip to a high risk area to get, weather you make 6 trips this life to cater for the next....or one every time you spawn, you still have to make the trips....every time. 7, tents don't spit out gear, you have to earn that gaer and then find a place where the tent will last. Camping has a lot of tactics to it, and the long term survival of your camp is a main goal of any basebuilder. Basebuilding is what I do in dayz, if I haven't got at least a 1 tent 1 vehicle camp up within 2 days, something is wrong. And I can tell you right now, if tents go when I die I just wont bother :) -
I don't think they will do that for the entire game, because the hive system is one of there main selling points. But private hives are on the way, and they will have your guy bound to that server. The devs also mentioned groups of servers. Personally I will always play private hive if I can. Its a more immersive experience as players always use that server, build there, get killed there and take revenge there. Lots more politics between powerfull groups, and a real sense of surviving against others :)

Best loot route(personally+map route)
Karmaterror replied to Apocrypha8's topic in General Discussion
NWA>Zelengorsk>the base south of zelen Then backup....rinse and repeat lol That's got everything....hospital tonne of residential and mill. I think people are gonna end up living in there own small sections of the map when its done. With the med centre going in there wont be any need to ever hit the coast :) -
Persistent storage containers; do you like the idea or not?
Karmaterror replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
Don't die is already the goal lol....basebuilding needs to add something. Don't forget aswell that having some safe(ish)...because its never 100% safe loot will promote player interaction. How would persistant storage after death be anyting like arma lite? I don't understand that. Arma never had placeable storage in the base game, that was all custom scripted for Dayz mod. This SA will take a lot from the MOD. Tents should function almost identically because it creates more styles of play. Camp hunters will emerge, basebuilders will go to work. But if it all gets deleted then there is no point whatsoever, may aswell just carry your inventory gear if its gonna be like that lol :) -

Karmaterror replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
If we loose them when we die.....whats the incentive for making it? To me there would be literally no point to any basebuilding if its tied to my toon, it would only be an extended inventory. The whole point is that you don't have to go to a high traffic area to gear again, that was what you spent the last week stocking for lol -
I think its authentic to a degree. I mean if the apocalypse hits, the first guys im going to try and meet up with will be my friends. So that's ok that they made groups from outside the game. That being said all the guys I play dayz with I met in the mod. This is where the current state of the game comes in. With only having what you can carry people are reluctant to approach others. But when basebuilding and vehicles come in things will change. You can stash that nice rifle and your fave cloths, then go out with crap loot to interact and make friends. Maybe offer some surplus loot that's quite valuable to the other guy, building the friendship. I think this one will solve its self as development progresses :)

[C@$] 24/7 Daylight No Crap - Hacking clan server? (Screenshot)
Karmaterror replied to t1337dude's topic in General Discussion
Orrrr lets have a bunch of us arrange a time and go gank them for cheating....vigilante justice ftw! Imagine all of a sudden there server fills with 20+people all logging in at NWA with LRS levelled at the firehouse...we just need a mole to confirm they are there :) -
Made a thread ages ago about this, but it got munched up as they all do. I think the way to go is to have skills degrade over time, if say you don't perform the action, or read up on that skill with a book. Then even a freshspawn could find a book, and have a skill that a vet has forgetten or never learned. Than the freshy could be a valuable addition to the team. If skills stay then its just going to make vets more powerfull and freshspwans so weak they carnt fight back, and the problem with skills that you learn by doing is that people will just grind them up on low pop and then switch to full servers. So Id say find a book to learn it, then maintain the skill by performing the action. If you don't you will eventually loose that skill :)

Tips for better situational awareness?
Karmaterror replied to Sunslayer's topic in General Discussion
Your AO is around a 1000m radius from the town you approach. Be combat ready when you approach that range. Scope from a vantage point.....but include the town, the treelines surrounding the town, and its entrance/exit roads. Take your time with treelines, checking under pine trees for concealed snipers. If ya set up a nest, clear it first....if you think its a good sniper spot....then someone else will aswell. Also check your 6 regularly weather moving or scoping...think that's about it from me ;) -
While id rather have seasons in chernarus, this is an unfinished project done by rocket himself... http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=13238 Now if they couldn't get seasons in....please...please rocket..... finish this, and make it the first Dayz addon map :)

Zombies needs to be primary objective for the devs!
Karmaterror replied to Putts_UK's topic in General Discussion
They pumped the damage again ya know....its 3 or 4k(can't remember exactly) per headshot hit now. I went from full to half hp in 2 zed hits earlier :D -

Karmaterror replied to Putts_UK's topic in General Discussion
Dayz started out as just a survival concept, they only added zombies later to make it more "mainstream". With that in mind I aint surprised rocket is doing the survival aspects first. I hope they continue to focus on them for now, and give this game some real depth. Keep it in a league of its own as far as survival mechanics go, then later they can sort out the zombies. We always got the MOD while this is in alpha aswell, and those zeds are a decent threat now, with there massive damage per hit and numbers :) -
For me the answer is yes, and its mainly down to the map. In the mod I had to visit the extreme north and south often, for ammo that only spawned at NWA, or for medical supplies in the costal cities. But now with there being hospitals off the coast, I don't find myself there very often at all. I can find everything needed within a much smaller area now. I don't think its changed how I approach people, they are still very tense moments, and I try to apply everything I remember from the mod to give me the upper hand :) So has it changed how you play?

Id buy one, don't have much occasion to wear a dayz t-shirt, unless I was at home lazing around. But a big dayz poster in a frame could look good next to my old movie ones...beans :)
-
Tired of being pushed around? I can help!
Karmaterror replied to Kalibyr's topic in General Discussion
Well you gotta give him beans for the effort lol....start gear servers + popular in mod + this thread = supply and demand haha But just to add, something I read on page one about him maybe using your account to gear you up... !NEVER GIVE YOUR STEAM PASSWORD TO ANYONE! :) -
In a way I agree, defo about keeping the stable branch....well....stable lol. But those complex features are a must have, and I do think its best to get them in early with the most time to iron out bugs and make them work flawlessly as you say. I know the original idea for Dayz mod was a pure survival game, zombies were only added to make it more "mainstream" and probably to be a constant threat to the player. With tat in mind im not surprised R is going for some really in depth systems. I like to play for survival, not just to shoot people. But as in the mod, its just too easy atm. With any luck these systems will move survival to the forefront of the game, instead of pvp and stuff. If your bored of the SA....and I can understand why atm lol. The mod is always still out there, and that's got vehicles and basebuilding. Now when I swapped back over il admit....it felt old at first. But if you can stick it out, get geared....then that's where the mod still wins over SA. Now your geared and have options for things to do. Should I fix a car...or look for a tent....find a heli....go look for other peoples camps. All of that will come to SA in time but for now I agree with you, once your geared, its painfully boring and "running simulator" is the best description :)

So I finally got my all black loadout, but the hunter pack was ruining it a bit. So I thought, how hard would it be without one. After some inv tetris I got all my essentials into the combo of tac shirt, cargo pants, and assault vest. Im hoping it pushes me into towns much more often for food and water, had enough in that pack to survive in the hills till beta lol. So what you think...is a backpack really needed?

Bring up Iron sights middle of run?
Karmaterror replied to OldWolf (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I THINK you have to relaece W then reapply it if your sprinting to be able to aim, was that way in the mod anyway....I could right click in sprint but it wouldn't scope till I stopped. ;)
