Why The Distinction Between Civilian/Military Weapons Is Bad, And You Should Feel Bad
Karmaterror replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I agree that all guns should be included. But isn't the whole mill civ thing just because some spawned at civy loot sites and some at mill loot sites? -
Standalone Priorities - The Big One
Karmaterror replied to BadContrakt's topic in General Discussion
Id think it would go, add base content (things like hunting, cooking, vehicles things like that), then get them all working without conflicting. Next pile in the content (cloths items, weapons ect) and optimise till its playable. The last thing in beta is balancing, Bug fixing and major optimisation. That's when id guess stuff like a laggy toolbar would be fixed. That being said, I guess every team works differently :) -
"New players" reaction to this patch is just like..
Karmaterror replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I agree with OP a bit. I see the respawning zombies as a brilliant step forward towards SA catching up with the mod. I don't care that they run through walls, or that they spawn in the open....because....well....its alpha. This is still progress in the right direction. If you played the mod you got conditioned to buggy patches lol. Also to bugs that just wouldn't go away...aka, lovely texture bug thing with wire fences so they were useless at campsites haha :) -
Now that looting towns is so "risky" due to the Zed threat..
Karmaterror replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I think kos will always be there, but what im hoping is when theres enough zombies, looting a copse will be hard as hell. That way would it be worth....shooting the guy, ruining some of his stuff....then risking zed damage to your own gear trying to retrieve the "mystery box" that is the other players body. Might not really be worth the risk later on. But some guys will always KOS, no matter what lol :) -
Thats just a weak argument.....its just a game, who cares how the mosin sounds.....its just a game, who cares that all our stuff inside pouches gets ruined when we get hit. See what i mean? you could say that for anything, and its againt the "authentic" moto of the dayz dev team. 1:1 is unrealistic, so is mouse accel. Only difference is mouse accel at least tries to simulate the restrictions of movement human beings have. Instead of lazily add ing some head bob, and leaving it 1:1. I would go as far as to call myself a cometative L4D2 player. Iv got somewhere in the region of 2600hrs, and regularly participate in group tournaments. I have sense at about 75%, and use a tiny mouse mat on the arm of the couch. If you normally use high dpi, and low sense then why not try changing some settings, try it with high sense low dps.....the sensitivity in arma has always been extreme. On very low sense i carnt even turn 45 degrees on my mose mat, but at 60-70 sense i can full 360 nearly twice. I think if people play with some settings to get the best out of the system, instead of being stuck in there ways with dpi/sense settings (then yelling its broken), they would see it aint bad at all. PS - I did experiment with this a while ago. It seems that if you are unarmed or weapon shouldered it becomes much herder to turn 360. Even having weapon in lowwered stance helps a hell of a lot. Maybe its a leftover from arma where it was reduced to simulate standing at attention. Or the enertia of the gun is ment to be carrying through. Either way i think it makes gunplay into a real game of managing your emotions/adrenaline and skill, keeping calm under perassure to beat your opponent, far beyond (but not excluding) fast reaction times :) @dgeesio, ahh sorry if i missunderstood, i thought was bbout accel as a whole. I admit i didnt play that particular build, so i carnt say anything about that. I just think mouse accel has a place in dayz, sure mess with it, this time it failed...next ime...who knows :)

It IS a feature. My point was you can twitch shot to a large degree, just trying areally unrealistic spin will result in a punishment.....id love to see something like this in every shooting game out there. All 1:1 is is easy user friendly mode, with just the sligtest ammount of patience this system can me learned quickly. And it really makes you think when in a gunfight, not just spaz out like on a "twitch shooter" and hit your target through mucle memory. Mucle memory plays a part IRL but ever situation is unique. The grouns your standing on, its elevation, stance, footwork, so much has to be factored in. This makes every spin different from the last, with a punishment for doing it UNNATURALLY FAST ;)

Sorry but most people just need to spend some time with the system and get to know it. When I first started A2 I hated it....but now that I hotswap between games like l4d and dayz, ....I realise how much more realistic it feels. Games like l4d with 1:1 mouse imput and being able to spin round 3 or 4 times with one mouse motion is whats messed up. Sure its user friendly....but dayz is the anti game, nothings user friendly, its functional. Mouse accel functions well IMHO, to make people learn to remain calm and controlled under pressure. I have no probs turning 360 in under a second in dayz.....faster and I get a penalty (barrel overshoots target, or extreme case points to sky or ground)....whats wrong with that? Is it that its just most gamers want games they can sit back, eating a dohnut, while chatting on Skype, playing chess....oh and at the same time blasting everyone in sight? This game just demands a bit more attention at first, once you adapt its the 1:1 stuff that feels unrealistic. Challenge any firearm owning forum members to post a vid of them 360'ing with a rifle keeping it level, and eyes down the sights (with stable footing) in under a second :P Arma/dayz really makes me feel like im controlling a human being, drawbacks and all, Not superman, dressed in army cloths. Anyway man up and learn to play......rant over :)

Don't know how good cooked meals will be at first. Im guessing food values might get some major balancing towards the end. Id love to have something ranged and silent....for when the mass zombies arrive. So I think it will have a use beyond just hunting, maybe could be a way to stealth another survivor without having to enter melee range. I hope there are aggressive animals, don't know if they are in real Chernarus, but id like to see wolfs. Give them some pack mentality, and very high speed....making it pretty hard to solo a group of them. Hopefully finding the rocks is an option. I know a rock circle would hold more heat for warmth as the rocks would get very hot. But we have an improvised backpack....so maybe an improvised fireplace that doesn't need rocks? :)
-
When we get respawning, numerous zombies....people wont be wasting valuable ammo on them ;)
-
Im hoping when enough zeds are added we get that whole "don't fire that gun here u nab!".....itl get us killed!!" mentality comes back a lil. Then even if you spot a survivor imitating a zed....it would be a judgement call wether you take the shot or not. With enough zeds taking the shot could mean the end of you aswell :)
-
I want them but I don't mind waiting. They are really really usefull tool to have, especially for guys who don't loot military as much. I think its more about where they would spawn. I know as a freshy I don't want to run strait to a mill zone because of bandits....id rather get a bit gearer around lower risk residentials, then hit up an airfield or base. If these spawned in residential, it could make them more of the "entry level" optics. Something to aim for at resi borfore heading on to mill. Then we can scout properly, without having to visit a high risk area to get that ability :)

Personally id have considered shooting him for not trying diplomacy when he had the drop on ya....but thats just me lol. Least he redeemed himself with the medical help, iv shot people who I was unsure about before now. Probs killed some friendlys by mistake cos they didn't hear my instructions or language barrier. But most of the time people realise its over, and are really happy when I just leave em cuffed with all there gear intact :)

This been suggested a lot, personally I think it would help loads. Just make the zombie agro distance much smaller if you are imitating there stance. Id say it would be very adventagous to someone who has a sniper watching the town. When I snipe the thing that gives away survivors over distance is the way they move....and the train they pull. If I was doing a quick scout (say im desperate for food so needs be done quick) I could see myself missing a survivor if they were walking like a zed in reasonable proximity to other zeds. Sort of like blending into the crowd (when we get "crowds" of zeds lol). Id like to see zombies clad in different cloths that are in the loot tables aswell. That way a survivor blending could be great because the zombies have he same cloths items as us :) EDIT - Add this to a thread I just read about the zeds attacking eachother and a blended survivor could be a lot harder to spot if some random zeds are having fights with eachother in the street :)
-
I wish they would fight eachother more aswell. Make it like L4D....if you play vs and are in spawn mode, you regularly see 2 commons get into a fight when they bump into eachother :)
-
For me the problem now is options. The old way a lot of weapons only spawned at NWA.....and that was the only place with barracks. Now theres barracks everywhere and as said in another post "no hotspots". Sure more of the map will be getting used but there isn't one key place anymore, a place where you know every survivor will want to get to for the best gear. SA feels like one of those mod servers that put barracks on the coast and in most towns lol :) EDIT - also hospitals are a big one.....the only ones in the mod were on the coast.....and best guns at NWA....this made peeps constantly visit both the extreme north and south....but now everything you need can be found in one small section of map :(

Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't
Karmaterror replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Hahahah the mods for SP games in op being cheating made me laugh. I got a lot of mods for fallout geared around making it harder/more realistic. Am I cheating for using these? As a general rule of thumb I stay away from mod armour and weapons in that game, as most are overpowered (edited stats) super gear. I think that's what the guy ment with mods, finding the good immersive ones can be hard.....but worth it when ya do :) For dayz I say gamma is a cheat....even tho we could all turn it on. That pitch black with nothing but a cone of torchlight is awesome. Most realistic night iv ever seen on a game. Trading is part of dayz.....its always a big risk and souse of tension/excitement. Also helping others is a valid playstyle, so having someone bandage you isn't cheating in my eyes. The only main "cheats" in dayz are script driven....which is a shame....scripts can be used for good aswell as evil....dayz mod was built on em :( EDIT - Oh and as for PP off.....yes that's a cheat. The blurry vision puts you at a disadvantage (as having lowHP/Injured survivor should. For people getting headaches or w/e with it....stop trying to focus harder and see "through" the blur.....will only end in headache, Just relax, take more time approaching a target area, make 10x more observations and use less RMB. In short its fine....you should be at a big disadvantage when on low HP (especially now that we can just heal over time) ;) -
What do you do once you're fully geared?
Karmaterror replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I found my endgame on sat....make a thread and give the gear to the best joke posted :) This might even make me play more SA this week...then I can do same comp next sat....because other than gearing there aint much to do. So il just keep resetting my gear each week and scavange again haha :) -
Survey: How many of you played the Mod or ArmaII/III?
Karmaterror replied to airfell's topic in General Discussion
Played OFP, then didn't come back to the series till A2. Played so much editor, domination and CTI at first. Then I asked a friend "whats all these dayz servers?" was hooked on the mod from there on in. Got like 600odd A2 hours, and that dosent count the time I spent on dayz mod because commander dosent log those hours. So its probably a stupidly high number, guessing way over 1000hrs. But the SA iv only put about 30odd hours in because its so lacking atm. Il stick with vanilla Mod on Chernarus, Namalsk or Celle for now. Then come back to the SA when its fleshed out a bit more :) -
you know you played to much DayZ when......
Karmaterror replied to War Path's topic in General Discussion
...your walking down the street felling uneasy, because you haven't checked your 6 in a while :) -
So I decided since its Saturday I need some laughs. Post your best jokes here and the one with the most beans by 6 this evening wins. At that time im willing to come and meet the winner ingame and surrender all my gear as there prize. I currently have an all black cloths loadout with some green pants and shirt for daytime play. LRS mosin, food, drink, and some other bits and bobs... All this could be yours.... Just make the forum members laugh :)
-
The prize has been claimed :) The transaction... The new reborn me...
-
Little late back but mrSnaku is our winner.....PM away to arrange the meet will report back when its done :)
-
hahaha did wonder how paranoid people would be..i can approach unarmed. Or just sit in the open somewhere and let ya kill me. Somewhere with a lot of treeline so you will be able to check from anywhere that im there. ATC tower roof on NWA rifle slung in wave stance? Ah well whoever has trust will win ;) This toons been alive for months....nearly since alpha came out...its time for his story to end in a heroic way :)

What is wrong with this picture?
Karmaterror replied to Caboose187 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Not sure...but I think a lot of stuff gets marked as a "vehicle" in A2 scripting. Like calling lights from game logics uses a create vehicle command....same with loading up ammo boxes with custom gear. Maybe its that, not that im against driving a boonie hat around chernarus....but that might make some people question there decision to eat those berrys lol :) -
Where are the updates? **crickets chirping**
Karmaterror replied to Spinnyd223's topic in General Discussion
....go play the mod for now, Aphas clearly aren't your cup of tea. Il add that such whining when we are on what month 4? of a 2 year projected build time, is premature by a long shot. If we haven't got cars of key features 18months in I might start to worry, but for now theres no problem whatsoever with the pace of development. The mod will defo hold your interest more for now. Hell just last night I was laughing to myself....Was thinking about everyone foaming at the mouth for hunting and cooking.....as I casually gutted my sheep and cooked up some mutton on the fire :) I love how some people talk about features like cars as if they are just an idea. They were in arma 2 Dayz mod. All the team is doing is reworking them (like how they reworked the health system). The support for them always has, and always will be there. They were very clear that this game would be a featureless buggy mess for the most of these 2 years....you were informed ;)
