One Thing Needs To Be Addressed [ROADMAP]
Karmaterror replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Well that's how they explained it.....they have a global item cap. If they don't spawn loot they can spawn thousands of zombies. But as it is now theres thousands of loot items and only a few zeds. So, if they turned down loot they could (theoretically) spawn more zombies. Yeah you will have to search for the stuff to build a barricade, but I just don't think they gonna last long vs respawning zombies and player traffic. With tents they didn't have security....but the security came from placement and concealment. Someone will find a barricaded house 10x faster than a well placed tent in the woods. Then its just a matter of loot the right tool and return. I hope both make it in game, id love to see what people use more. Physical security or locational (concealment type) security. The "on the fly" bit means you may throw one up if you have the parts to just give a bit of flank protection during a firefight. I carnt see anything we can knock up while under siege from the zombies to be more than a rushed temporary type thing. Like you block one of the orange house doors, cover the other, and if someone tries come in the back ya hear a hammer or whatever breaking it down. Or the zombies clawing at it. Tactically I thing barricades will be great, as a base building thing....not so sure. Anyway, back OT, If a house was fully barricaded the server could boot you to main menu with some sort of message "Your current location is unavalible on this server", so you have to swap server and move away. They can mark "no log in zones" like barracks and stuff, so they may be able to write a script that checks all that houses barricade sites, then decides weather you can log in there or not :) -
Yeah zombies are gonna be a big part of this game....if it follows the mod looting any built up area will be hell. Just check out some vids to see where the SA will be going. The mod had a lot more zeds than this, constantly respwning and agroing through line of sight, gunshot sounds (a big sniper rifle could pull the entire citys worth of zombies to the sound. Also the very sound of your footsteps on concrete could alert them. Expect all of that to come in the future. When it finally catches up with the mod, the norm should be, die 20 times......find a gun this life.....die because you fired it and pulled all the zombies.....learn never to shoot in a built up area.......become hermit scoping from treelines lol Don't know why everyone saying the agro strait away tho, iv killed many with an axe now and after reading forums was ready to be swamped as they respawned......never happened. First there still aint enough to be a problem 2nd they don't come strait after you. Chances are the extra ones showing up are the ones that were further away, but were still pulled by the initial shots. Then when you fire again, you pull the ones you killed first, that respawed while the others arrived. Pro tip.....In any town swap to melee for stealth. Only fire your weapon near zombie locations if forced to by another player. Good example....go into a barracks on NWA in the mod.....fire a round.....now shoot each zombie that walks in. It will literally never end, you will run out of ammo and be cornered. Best way is to axe them so as not to pull more in. If you don't have an axe its sometimes a better choice to squeeze down the corridor past them, taking a few hits, but getting out and away, instead of firing and sealing your fate :)

One Thing Needs To Be Addressed [ROADMAP]
Karmaterror replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Guess what I mean is its never going to be feasible to set up a house as "your own" because things will exist to get past any defences you put in place. The player traffic will mean that your house will be discovered eventually. So for me at least, concealment is a better option for making a base. That's why I don't mind if they just log in inside the building. Those type of barricades are just "on the fly" zombie stoppers. Or maybe to block a rear enterance so you will hear someone coming in that way while you cover the other door. Maybe im wrong and the barricades are intended for constructing bases, but I hope not. How about how the loot spawned in the mod? That was reasonably quick, I think it was loot spawns when player is within X metres from the building. Loot despawns if no players within X metres. Sounds exploitable and lets face it.... it is. But the other side of the coin is that you could move between 2 high value loot locations, yet due to loot spawn %, could not find that thing you needed even after visiting both 10 times. In that sense it had balance. I liked that, and it frees up more server resourses for things like zombies and player cap, by having areas with no players spawn nothing. They said in there test builds that they could run thousands of zombies. But with the global item cap thingy, there number is capped and tied into loot item numbers. Id be happy with the loot system from the mod, and give us those thousands of zombies. Was even going to make a thread suggesting they turn loot spawns down by 25% and put a few extra zombies in, because a lot of loot is just repeats atm lol :) -
I can already see the basic mod in SA already
Karmaterror replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
Don't want the SA to turn into the mod....with all those mods of mods?? Then post a screenshot from (dirt dirty) Epoch.....facepalm :P I feel like the SA has anticipated this, just look at how many more mill bases and barracks there are on the map now. The whole west side is mill loot paradise. Theres no need for more guns mods and stuff. I hope they keep it kind of like the l4d system. Can have skins for items that only you see, and addon maps. But nothing that changes gameplay at its core. One thing I would really like to se is a skins for gear items system that works like the old A2 faces system. For those that don't know that system was that you could set a small custom image file as your guys face. Everyone else on the server would be able to see it. Now if they could "port" that system to use on any gear item, we could see some truly unique items floating round Chernarus. If you get someones....lets say...."custom UK tac vest" that they have skinned bright orange for kicks, that tiny image file would be stored on your PC, allowing you to keep the items unique look. Imagine seeing a survivor in something you skinned, and lost months ago :) -

Server hopping to negate barricades wouldn't bother me, id never use ahouse as a camp anyway. There will im sure, be a tool in game for removing barricades, so trying to "secure" a house as a base will never be a good idea. All I can see it used for is to alow down zombies, or a tactical advantage (barricade the door to stop yourself being flanked. I really hope we get tents again eventually, that's the best way to make a concealed base. I think the loot respawn will negate hopping to a degree. ATM if you loot all the mill places, that's it. You know whats there and know that will remain the same until server restart. With the loot system, it may be more time efficient to keep re-visiting locations to gear up. Basicly its a variable that will effect this behaviour in players, so we need that in to really assess the state of server hopping fully :) -
You can do this the other way around aswell and its really good fun. Used to do it on an old mod private hive...if I found a camp I didn't trash it. I just moved all the vehicles say 1000m south of were they were. Then when the owners log in, and start moaning about there camp. You announce that you have there cars....and if a certain ransom (usually something silly like 3 cans of mountain dew) are placed on NWA tower at 12:00 midnight....the location of there cars will be given. If not they will see the screenshots on the server forums the next day of all the smouldering wrecks ;)

Ghillies aint anything special, anyone could knock one up in no time. But you wouldn't do it with natural flora.....if ya start gluing or sticking leafs to a tshirt/jumper, they would all just fall off soon as you started moving. I was able to try a friends one out when he was home not long ago, they are just made from strips of material in the appropriate colour. That being said there wernt many strips on his, and he did say that they sometimes grab handfuls of flora to just jam in the gaps. Might be cool if the craftable ones could be messed up. Say you need a sewing kit, any undergarment to attach the strips to, and say 2 torn up anythings for the camo. That way if you decide to craft one it would be the same colours as the garments you....I dunno...."cut into strips". Then not only can we make ghillies to suit where we play most. But if you made one out of a red and a yellow torn up shirt its not gonna turn out so well lol :)

Im not against thermal scopes being in-game, as long as they are rare as hell. Really like the idea in OP that they could burn through batteries quickly, maybe even use a special type of battery that is as rare as they are. On the subject of global item economy, I have a concern. People said they were against persistent storage, as clans could stockpile weapons. Now, wouldn't global item economy only foster that. What I mean is, on the mod, a group could have a big camp, 20 as50, 5rpg, plenty of rockets......but as50's, and rpg's would still spawn. So no matter how well entrenched they were, me (or any other) could always find the same hardware to fight back with. Now if one group has all of the 5 AS50 in existence they truly have the monopoly on that weapon, no more will spawn to balance things out :)

WARNING: Do not kneel near Zombies.
Karmaterror replied to pacific_coast's topic in General Discussion
I have funny scenario in my head....Wannabe hero decides hees gonna save you from the zed while scoping from the treeline. Bang....oops shot the wrong one hahaha ;) I took a beating a few times in crouched stance last night, but didn't get any insta death. -
Wow you really are full of it,. One quote please where I brag about being good, or brag about corner camping, or brag about anything. I never said wussies....I said they were afraid. Fear and being afraid are common human emotions nothing more nothing less. I know that fear of peekers is a big motivator that pushes people to hardcore. The friends I play with on there don't think its negative, but admit that's why they are there. That's the point I was making. And that basically I think dayz should remain as it is with 3rd servers and 1st only servers. Want some reasons... Appeals to a broader spectrum of gamers - good for sales 3rd is an effective tool used in video games for storytelling -helps you connect with the character by watching him/her interact within the game world. Hardcore servers exist, for those that really don't want to play 3rd - So everybody wins
-
Hmm funny, because im in 1st from about 1000m from any location I think there could be combat. You also seem to misunderstand me. I did not attack weeds, I posted my views on the subject and was then called a scrub and from then on in he hes shown hostility. Ive ignored the retard comment and other childish snips, while clamly trying to state my points. He even later states that he only calls CoD console gamers scrubs. I don't own a console or CoD, its all just propaganda trying to belittle 3rd players for choosing the view they prefer. I carnt watch the vid now because im at work. Will watch later and respond. :) This was my first post....with simple points...to illustrate my view Grrr again? really? AGAIN?!?! 3rd is no exploit....everyone has it Playing a 3pp server is more challenging for PvP....Hardcore = safety blanket for those AFRAID of peekers If it was really about a higher degree of difficulty then youd just hit that button and play away Its the cries of "level playing field" that show its a safety blanket If it was really an immersion thing...again....insta immersion button right there. Just because you carnt get your friends to play hardcore with you dosent mean whole game should go 1st only. Try harder to move your mates.....if you really believe its better show the devs by actually playing it and making it populated. That's the best way to sell them on this idea. Personally I love what 3rd adds to the game. Really makes me feel connected to my character, and seeing him interact with the world all helps to tell "his story". I love the extra fear looting through towns knowing that someone could be behind any wall...any window...silently watching me preparing for the kill. Instead of some counterpoints or a logical argument (what your now asking me for) back I get this.... Man you scrubs sure are desperately trying to hold onto that crutch that makes you feel like you aren't terrible at the game because you can kill fresh spawns by magically seeing around corners huh? Before he edited it and added some more. So when you decide to call someone for attacking another.....get your facts right. Damn strait my tone changed after that :)
-
Maybe we could spawn there, instead of the coast. Or both, then if the map was a big circle of towns and cities, like in irish's post, we could spawn all along the wooded area on the north and west edges. Might be fun to have to beat some prey animals down with your bare hands, eat raw meat and drink from ponds/streams at the start. Then when you finaly leave the woods and find civilisation, all that awaits is zombies lol. Instead of spawning right next to buildings and a solid coastline for orientation :)
-
Your all missing my point.....the only thing that hardcore servers offer now is THE GARANTEE YOU WONT BE PEEKED ON. That's it.....nothing else.....not one single thing that cant be achieved on a 3rd server with the push of a button. Immersion and challenge are smokescreen arguments, masking the one true reason anyone goes to hardcore.....see caps above^ And I have no problem with that, its fine. But that's why I say its a safety blanket :)
-
That's a blanket assessment of difficulty....not a statement that has anything to do with my skill level....try again.
-
Alls im saying is 3rd has its merits...and a place in dayz. Im not saying...nor ever have...that dayz should be 3rd only. I see a lot of it from the 1st camp though. And your last comment says it all....I feel like they cheatin, this implies its much harder to fight off a 3rd user in 1st....so if its really that YOU want more of a challenge, play 3rd servers exclusively in 1st. If its an immersion issue you could do the same, or play hardcore, but that is a debatable increase imo. A lot of other games use 3rd for the very purpose of immersing the player You wont get any form of PvP challenge increace there either because you are enforcing the view on EVERYONE....hows that so hard to grasp. Its simply a matter of perspective. Ive never claimed to be better at dayz for preferring 3rd on servers. Please do quote me saying anything like that. I play both modes due to friends differing tastes, and having 2 toons is a bit of a bonus. Also im not against 1st at all, sometimes it seems people think I am. Im only against it being forced globally across dayz, I think it would be bad for the game. It would become just another FPS game, 3rd helps set the tone for the RPG elements. Personally id have liked 1st and 3rd to remain server settings, with a real hardcore mode based on gameplay tweaks that could be enjoyed by either user :)
-
Man you 1st guys really do think your better for playing there....whats up...carnt admit ya afraid of the lil peekers. Its ok we all know, go be happy in bubble wrap land haha ;) I can do that aswell Answer this....why not just change view on a 3rd server to have immersion and higher PvP challenge?
-

So the patch broke the anti-combat log system
Karmaterror replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Seems like an alt F4/ Crash issue. Was like this in the mod aswell, if you tried a legitimate log out then you got the 15 sec timer....alt f4 and it bypassed that. I was hoping for the combat log system from the mod just without this exploit. Because lets face it, its like weeds said, people just wait for the log out then rush in for a no skill free kill. Bring out a better more robust system devs....preferably live like the one from the mod :) OP yours does sound like he logged ...the animation glitched...that's why he stood there like a deer in headlights for 2 mins. That in its self is immersion breaking part of the current system :( -
Yeah this ones from the standard A2 chernarus.....sry dude :) The doors did work on that version though, sure you tried movin the mouse around a bit....some doors you have to nearly point at the ceiling to get the symbol lol

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Karmaterror replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Grrr this is how dayz should be....fire a shot in a built up area and expect death! Didn't you guys see those doodle rants, death to zombies should be commonplace. It should go die 20 times to zeds.....find a gun....die because the shots your fired pulled every zombie around you. Even in the mod if I went for some gunplay vs zombies in a city, id leave my good gear in a tent. Just take an LMG few mags and couple food and drink. Why? because I fully expected to die. If not from the constant stream of zombies my shots pulled....then from the bandit who followed the train to kill me. Point being avoiding agro, or managing it when you do agro one is all part of the experience. Not continuing to fire when your first shots pull zombies is a good start! haha Many ways to manage agro... Don't fire in built up areas unless you have to Use melee and stealth (just staying out of zombie LOS for now) Just because you have 1 agroed, don't stand up and run, stay crouched and keep moving properly, don't fire in panic....it will just pull more zeds Agro is your friend! Agro points out a survivor so blatently when your scoping from the treeline In teams 1 guy can agro the zombies and keep them busy, allowing a buddy to loot pretty much unhindered. This is all part of the dayz experience. Ok so I agree this system needs work, but its still an big step forward towards that Dayz feeling.. And enough about collision....we all know about it. Just use your imagination, think when they follow buildings properly, spawn out of our LOS, and exist in much greater number......Its gonna be EPIC :D -
POLL: Change the instant zombie respawns... a bit much?
Karmaterror replied to Sgt.BigBeasty's topic in General Discussion
This is how dayz should be....grrrrr. Fire a gun anwhere near a populated area....high chance of death. I carnt see why so many moaning threads....did no one expect to die to zombies in this game. If your still pulling a train then fall back away from buildings into the woods......swap to mele so you don't pull more. It should be like this....firing a gun in cherno should result in a never ending wave of zombies draw to the sound. Only way to stop it is to go quiet. Even then it wont stop strait away, you will have to dodge or finish the ones still arriving from your last shots. Didn't you guys see those doodle rants for the mod. Dayz should be die 20 times to zombies before you even find a gun! Not find a gun 5mins after spawn and be rambo kitted for a zombie clearance mission. If you want to go take on zombies with a gun, you will have to work for it. Even in the mod if I went to a city to have a zombie battle id leave good stuff in a tent somewhere. Just take an LMG with a lot of ammo and a couple food/drink. I fully expected to die....if not to the constant stream of zombies....then to the bandit that followed said stream of agro to find and kill me. Point being getting agro is always a bad thing, learning to avoid, or contain it when you do agro one is all part of the experience (not continuing to fire after the first shot pulled zombies is a good start haha) ;) Did they even fix the hearing? or can we still just walk on concrete right up behind them? Wait till your very footsteps will draw a crowd....making stealth a real game aspect :) PS agree that collision is bad, but just imagine if they did follow buildings properly....because they will eventually....its gonna be EPIC :D -
The only solution for DayZ: Simulation.
Karmaterror replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Nice post, this is very much how I hope Dayz develops. One thing id add is you mentioned multiple people interacting at the same time for construction. One iv always wanted to see is 2 or more pushing a car together would give a 3rd in the driver seat an "attempt bump start" scroll option, if the battery was dead. Could be a chance to fail if the car is going too slowly, the skill is looking at the speedo for the right speed :) -
Simply put Day z wil have 2 types of HIVE....PUBLIC and PRIVATE. The PUBLIC hive will allow for gear and char to transfer between servers. The PRIVATE HIVE servers will have the char bound to that server, and will probably have password or whitelist (filtering players based on GUID (cd key sorta)) capabilities. These type are planned but not implemented yet. But ATM kicking players to keep you server private is against the terms and conditions, for the whole gearing then swapping thing :)
-
The spawns would be good, if guns didn't spawn in schools and industrials. But hey we haven't got anywhere near a full compliment of loot items yet. Think when theres all the car associated loot diluting the tables, then if they add junk loot (aka the mods empty tin cans) finding things of value will be a lot harder. Then id imagine there will ne a lot of balancing of loot in Beta time, that might be whaen we see gun spawns reduced and have them spawn at more logical places ;) But guns weren't everywhere I the mod...we had crap stuff in towns an semi ok stuff in firestations. But if ya wanted good guns the only place was NWA. That made it a great hotspot. Now with barracks everywhere I feel like its destroyed that pilgrimage to nwa for a shiny rifle :( But maybe later on the other places like balota and zelen will spawn nice....but not great gear. Then NWA would become the holy grail of gun spawns again, well, except for CS :)
-
Little confused, a private hive server is the only way to completly stop hopping. They where your toon is bound to that server. This is already in the works, and we should have them soon (ish). But right now theres only public hive servers. The only ones iv seen, that try to enforce "clan only" or whatever, are breaking the rules. Never experianced that loot dissapearing thing either :) PS - if you mean the servers where you join and all your gear is gone....these servers are just having problems staying connected to the hive. Its not a built in feature ;)
