Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?
Karmaterror replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
Can someone define "meta gaming" for me, iv seen it used in a lot of different context and each time im more confused by its true meaning lol. Things like the gamma and third party VOIP systems are to me, a part of gaming. Maybe they negate some of the ingame mechanics but that's true of any game. What was the point of group based comms in BF2 if everyone just used TS. Its just one of those things we have to live with. The gamma thing does need a fix, and has been discussed a lot. But limiting access to the settings menu doesn't seem like a viable fix to me. If 5 min wait isn't enough to put off the die hard hoppers, then I don't see a quick game restart every now and then to be much of a solution. I think the best fix would be the A3 lighting system. Then for walki talkies vs VOIP.....well....not much lol. Best I can think of is to make the ingame comms much more accessable and user friendly. That way whats the point of tabbing to set up TS when we can push 1 key and have our walkie on. In the end though I think we will have to accept that VOIP is here to stay, take solace that at least your game experience is richer for not using it :) -
Few possible fixes... 1, close steam then go to task manager.....ensure you are viewing processes from all users than make sure there is nothing to do with steam lingering. This can cause some games not to start, or even steam not to start, if that process doesn't close with steam. 2, If it says Dayz already running then there is something in task manager related to it, again make sure you are viewing processes from all users and try to find anything related. 3, video card drivers.....these things can cause so many problems with games. Go to manufacturers site and check for new ones. Iv had games stop working that worked fine, only to have them work again after new drivers went on. 4, long shot..... but try clearing your registery with something like CCleaner, old entries can cause conflicts. That's about all I can think of for now. If the problem has persisted over a reinstall it makes me lean towards drivers being the issue, if all else fails try steam support, they should be able to help :)

Nice....god knows how many years and 3 steam accounts in and I never knew you could skin it either. Just found a good site and bolstered my skins folder up, have some beans :) -
Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?
Karmaterror replied to Ugly (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I agree with the OP that all relevant information should be displayed here, I understand that the devs like to use twitter or whatever to communicate, but im not a twitter person. The only time I see those things is when someone links them on here. Im perfectly happy with the changelogs for each update, nothing wrong there. But I would like to see this site as the main goto for every piece of info available. Would it be that hard for the devs to move from twitter to this site, considering its the official one. They could have a separate board to communicate with eachother that only they could post on. But one that could be viewed by the public, call it the "Dev Boards" or something. That could have news, annoncements and dev comms threads we could all view. That would really make the community feel involved I think. Even just a "News Hub", where someone posted each and every update from the other sites on a locked topic here somewhere......anything to correlate it all :) OP I say, yes you have a good point IMO but maybe exercise a bit of diplomacy. The mods and devs are open to criticism evidenced by the fact your thread is still open ;) -
Went Back To The Mod Last Night - The Little Things
Karmaterror replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Things I miss.. 1. No status messages, I feel more immersed than when im seeing messages pop up all the time. (like when I used to look for server with no "side" channel) 2. Dispersal of hospitals and mill loot, miss how the north was the holy grail for guns, and the coast had the only hospials making us move around the map more out of necessity. 3. The barricades, wrecks ect ect, sure these will come eventually and think they will really help set the post apocalyptic mood (ps good call from devs to use the run down looking market from the proving grounds map :D ) Think you covered the rest in OP, im playing a lot more mod than SA at this point tbh :) -
The Public Hive- Am I the only person who likes it?
Karmaterror replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I prefer private hives, its such a different experience over the long term than the pub hive. It becomes more group warfare, think the walking dead, with different groups set up all over. Then comes the diplomacy, making and breaking pacts, sometimes on the fly when more than one group clashes. Then theres the persistence of your actions. You cant just be a complete douche one day and expect everyone to forget by the next, because you just picked a new server. You really do build a reputation with the server regulars. I see the allure of the public hive, but its not for me. It promotes to much action without thought when you can just take all your stuff to a new server and be born again :) -
wind direction/speed feedback to the player
Karmaterror replied to akafugitive's topic in Suggestions
True, its not something we have to put much thought into for a good guess. But for accuratly countering wind on bullet physics i think we do need a tool included with that gives accurate readings. Further adds to the gear curve aswell. Relying on enviroment at first untill you have that gear piece. Even if they just had the debis in the air blow in the right direction, with varying speed, that could be just as good as an arrow but without the gamey UI intrusion :) -
wind direction/speed feedback to the player
Karmaterror replied to akafugitive's topic in Suggestions
I really dont like the idea of some magic arrow you can make appear to show wind direction. We should have to read the enviroment for clues to wind speed and direction. I could go for a gesture to read it, and the lootable wind measure thing. I think it should be just as hard to use as the compass aswell. Then spotters have a proper detailed job to do. Being a good spotter could become an art form. First provide bearing, then swap to wind measureing tool and give that reading, finally check map for a good distance guess from grid squares. All would seem pretty "authentic" to me :) -
Remove Zombies until they're fixed.
Karmaterror replied to Sir Schmoopy's topic in General Discussion
Rocket said at that rezzed thing that the new team they have has been working on the navmesh and is closer than he expected to delivering. Cant believe there are still threads about the zombies clipping when its so obviously an issue the devs are working on :) -
If you want him to play you have two options.... 1. Buy him the game yourself then lay on the guilt. That option isn't so good though because he will always feel as though he was forced to play. Your best option is number 2.... 2. You have to find a way to sell it to him, do it through videos, screenshots and stories. Screenshots are probably the best way to sell dayz, as it looks awesome. Vids may show too much of the clunkyness and put some off. Some quick sales tips.... Excitement, you always have to be enthusiastic about what you are trying to sell. Sheep Factor, This is basically like saying "mrs robberts who lives on your street has already swapped energy provider to us" the person then thinks there astute friend cant be wrong, so they do the same. Do you have any shared steam friends who own dayz? Fear of loss, This in most cases would refer to a limited time offer, in this case the alpha. Sell him on the fact its currently at a reduced price and now would be the time to buy in,

[Petition] Password or Kick permissions for SA servers !
Karmaterror replied to ProTECK's topic in General Discussion
OP don't worry, you can have a nice RP server soon. You just have to wait for the private hives to be added. Then you say who can join your server. Hes got a good point though, if a server can be shut down for kicking people. Then the server owner needs some way to provide evidence for why they were kicked. And the other way round. As someone else said maybe there is a way to check the logs? EDIT - if not then should start a new petition "Let server owners check logs" :) -
ATM i think this is a glitch, but it may end up being in the game. Not only when they add stuff like empty tin cans to the loot tables, but in the mod they also had a use. You could use the old cans to boil water and avoid an infection.....rly hope we get that functionality added soon :)
-
One could argue it would be just as formulaic if they spawn further out. The formula would just change a little. The only thing I can see it bringing is a lull in the zombies, allowing players to loot free from threat. You should never be free from threat.....ever....when looting towns in dayz :) Nail on head for stealth mechanics. I hate that I can run up behind standing zombies and they don't even react to my footsteps, and everything else that's wrong with it atm lol. PS..tried the mod recently? the cranked the zombie damage values, makes them at least a bit of a threat, those 2 hits the survivor used to shrug off can now lead to <40% hp, with a bleed that can be quite life threatening :)

What Mods do you want in the SA
Karmaterror replied to king_of_the_beans's topic in General Discussion
NONE!! I WANT DAYZ PURE AS THE DRIVEN SNOW!! But yeah....bit late for that lol :) -
I loved the zoom and don't see why its gone.... BRING IT BACK DEVS!! I always just thought of it like this... Zoomed down sights - putting your eye right by the optics (loosing some peripheral vision) Not Zoomed - having the sights/scope a little away from your eye so you can still get some decent peripheral vision.
-
Basically I don't see them as bases because any grown man with a pickaxe will get through any wooden constructed barricade in mins.....give him a sledgehammer and he would just come through the wall. Slowing down zeds and survivors yes, building a long lasting base.....not feasible if they hold authenticity of how easy it would be to get in. They may even go that way, of very easy to get past them. I hope they do.....should be like tents in the mod (and I really hope we get those back). Major advantage to have one, but can all be lost in minuets :)
-
That bit yes... That bit I say no. If you put your stash somewhere its going to last, trust me, it wont be near a spawn point ;) Many times in the mod I was reasonably geared before I even got anywhere near my campsite. So sometimes I didn't even go back.....till I wanted to stash something. So I still got the whole survival, start with nothing experience every time :)
-
Did ya play the mod atall man? That's the dayz experience....you should be constantly under threat from the second you enter the town till the second you leave (that's your threat assessment hehe). Looting should be constantly hampered, with the chance to be killed by them high and again constant. If we let people clear areas of zombies its gonna be so boring. Well that's my opinion anyways :) PS not defending this spawn system though....its a good start, but needs a lot of work. Im really looking forward to the new pathfinding for them. But my big fear is that they will never exist in the numbers they did in the mod. Best iv done so far is 4 standing zombies in one screenshot. If I look back to my mod days could easily shot 20 or so wandering just from the buildings id made them spawn from. Put another player inside the town somewhere and the numbers could get epic. If it really wants to out do the mods zombies for me, then we need moooooore lol :)

I used to move my friends cars....and other groups, if I found there camps. Then ransom them for stupid stuff like 3 cans of mountain dew left somewhere at a certain time. Was great to see a m8 join and go "wheres my fookin heli".......then me "we have your heli.....and all your cars.....unless ransom of......" :) PS I love that putting junk loot in your friends pack.....so trying that when we can finally look in each others packs :D

7 you say.....Iv lured a medic to zelengorsk.....*polishes mosin scope* :P

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
Karmaterror replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
What if I said most MMO's just give the illusion that your interacting with many players. When in reality each instance of that map would only be able to accommodate so many players....say 100. That means while the game may boast millions of players you can only be on the same map as a small % of the playerbase, but you can connect to more by switching instance. That's a lot like dayz ;) -

Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion
Karmaterror replied to sidwulf's topic in General Discussion
1:1... Dayz just lost a big realism/immersion feature. Iv never felt so much like im controlling a human as I did in A2. I shed a tear today while most of you will be smiling :( Hopefully that weight system will still have people messing up under pressure. Something needs to go in to replace accel and make us feel like a living creature with limitations. If it starts feeling like a normal FPS game with superman on speed reactions I wont be a happy bunny lol -
Dunno if this is the same tthing, but I feel people are more inclined to stay in one area on chernarus+, because every type of loot is avalible in many small parts of the map. Building diversity and cool landmarks could be one waay to make people explore. But I think loot spawns could do it just as well. Take the mod for example, a lot of things only spawned at NWA. This made people head there over and over. They would go from different spawn points and would explore on the way. But now why bother? theres barracks on the coast, all up the west side, even one with the enterable building mid map. Now if they adjusted loot spawns to make it very specific, eg, only chance of a mosin/M4 would be NWA leaving only the sks avalible at most of the other barracks. I think that on its own could encourage a lot more exploration. OK so they are all heading to the same spot, but from different directions and discovering new places each time. They may want to revisit that place or show it to a friend :)

Caught a whole clan of people cheating(site mods, there's proof).
Karmaterror replied to FalloutPrime's topic in General Discussion
You do realise that to some extent the firestorm over it isn't helping. All your doing is publicising a clan that knows how to dupe....watch there recruitments inbox triple now. I know duping is bad, but we all know its out there. The best defence is most peoples ignorance to how its done. Ever heard the phrase "theres no such thing as bad publicity" ;)
