Weird Mouse movement DayZ standalone.
Karmaterror replied to Nibiru (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hit "start new topic" in top right of board page.....maybe its better suited to the troubleshooting board though. This thread was more complaining about mouse accel. Havent heard anyone mention a delay in turning though, so might be a technical issue :) -
I wont argue that the gamma is a very very bad thing. But the pitch nights have to stay when the server is in that phase of the lunar cycle....its too authentic to just strip out. How much can we dumb it down and still call it a sim? If the date is right, and the cloud cover low you get the exact same view as you would with gamma up...that black and white but perfectly visible type scenario. A common fix for pitch black nights in the mod was to lock the server to a specific date, so the full moon was out. Maybe servers should show date in the list aswell as time. Then with a little trip to google for lunar phases of that particular date, you can choose the night you enjoy more. PS anyone who says it doesn't go pitch black like that has never camped out away from light pollution in the UK lol :)

What you can't see, shouldn't be rendered
Karmaterror replied to Gabe Newell's topic in General Discussion
Well im confused...I read OP as Should only render things we see as....well things we see. Meaning its not rendering vybor when you are in electro and so on. I read it has having nothing to do with distance or a 3pp "fix" lol As for that im sure it already happens to a degree, we do have gradually less detailed lods. The engine may very well be rendering the low lods for everything all the time, as in arma you could have view distance to 10k without editing configs. So maybe its not required in a game where 3k view distance is max :) The devs have mentioned the occlusion in the past so hopefully they on it :) -
Sensitivity Broken for Anyone Else?
Karmaterror replied to Devon206 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Oh man I was afraid of this.....*heart sinking* Hope they have a lot of additions planned to make it more realistic. -
I got no problem with it. I usually stick to one or two servers so getting kicked never happens because I know they are safe from that. On the odd occasion that I do dc twice rapidly, the timer is a little annoying, but nothing more than that. If I ever do get it I just do something around the flat for 5 mins....vacumea room or 2, move washing to dryer, throw some dishes into soak, let the dog out. There are a million and one ways to kill 5 mins, no need to sit and watch a timer. Basically just find good ping, that you can maintain a stable connection to, no kick servers....bookmark them and stick there. Spend an hour or to building a list if you want loads, then (as long as your not hopping ;) ) you wont have to worry :) This is coming from someone who plays through a mobile phone using its wi-fi hotspot function when in work.....never been disconnected enough to see that timer though ;)

major bugs and glitches that should have priority over other things.
Karmaterror replied to blackmauser95's topic in General Discussion
Not true, they take much longer just aren't open to public testing. This game isn't taking any longer, we are just allowed to watch as it takes shape. total of 3-4 years is an ok development time for a game. I read somewhere that Chernarus took 5 years to build.....5 years! :) They have stripped so much from arma, most recently mouse acell. By the end of alpha I don't think much will be left at all. Its like gutting an engine and rewriting it. They are also heavily focusing on updating the engine and moving it forward. Pulling out the renderer to make way for better direct x. Also trying to get 64bit servers going. Better multi-core support, its all being addressed. That's about as core as it gets, and is very keyed in on bringing the engine forwards, removing some inherent flaws. Not to mention they are still adding items and mechanics in the meantime There plan seems good to me....update engine, other team works on zeds, all the time adding content that will function even when the engine updates are applied....patience is key, 4 months in is just to early for the whole "loosing faith" talk :) -

I don't care if this new team takes months to do the zombies, as long as they do them well. Even 6 months from now would be well within projected alpha time. They do have a survival sim to build in the meantime, survival mechanics could be arguably more "core" than zombies. Without that its just another zombie game. OP there is a list the devs look at all the time....the dav tracker. Upvote these issues if you want them solved. But assigning a whole team to zombie AI....what more can we really ask them to do :) -

Have people in this game gone insane?
Karmaterror replied to gianni001's topic in General Discussion
I feel your pain OP....I was shot for the 1st time at NEAF....after id been shot and (guess he was looting my corpse) I made the mistake of saying "Good game.....did you have eyes on for a while?" or something like that in direct chat....begin a torrent of "you nab fuc***" "Suck my balls"....blah blah. One of the best dayz experiences I ever had was me and a friend bumping into these 2 guys in a ural....now we started it lol....we shot at them from our huey. But that engagement ended up lasting nearly an hour. Them trying to run us chasing....me dropping off my friend to snipe them while I flew distraction. It ended with 1 death on each side and me flying to grab my m8 while the other guy must have drove to pick up his. The best bit of it all was discussing it for another 30 mins after we were all safe. They were real good sports about it all and we had many more run ins over the coming months, all ending with lols on both sides and a good convo about the whole thing afterwards. Don't loose hope op, there are a lot of mature people on the game. I think we will see them come together when private hives arrive. Making communities free of this childish immature crap :) -
OP what are the "carebear" mechanichs they have put in so far? Item damage is quite a realistic feature imo. And from your posts it seems to be working...." I cant unload a shotgun into someones chest if I want there gear".....that seems to be doing its job then. If you want the gear your gonna have to get closer and make a more precise shot. That gives the other guy more time to spot you....this makes the engagement more interesting for both sides. Its risk vs reward....do you risk getting close for the gear or take the shot instantly. Anything that makes us think more and employ tactics is a good thing. From my point of view 1:1 mouse input and the healing status are way more "carebear" than item damage :)

Right....time to have a look at these new mouse controls. Good having a topic posted aswell. This would have been how I heard about it if I hadn't noticed it in downloads on steam :)

Might have been suggested before but id love to see this added. Yes its a blatent rip off from l4d but I think it could be implemented a ot better in SA. For starters, shooting the car could set it off, just like l4d. But, as we aren't spraying all the time, it could also be set off by opening one of the doors. All cars could be programmed to be alarmed, but each restart just enables a few random ones to keep us guessing. Maybe there could be a tiny tell as to wether its alarmed, bandits could then pick an alarmed one and shoot it when there prey was close as a major distraction. When shot it should draw all zombies in a big radius, say 400m, making it a little quieter than the as50 from the mod. With the right tool we could scilence it, or it could just run out over time (as if the slight charge in the batt dies). That's about it I think, what you guys think?

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
Karmaterror replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Im guessing walking to catch your breath would be doable, so it would be double tapping shift every 100m to keep him going. That's how it could be managed to make it not viable for afk'ing, but still work to save our hands in the long run :) -
The reason Zombie clipping isn't fixed.
Karmaterror replied to Dontstealmycheese's topic in General Discussion
If the original cabinet designer said it would take them 10 days.... And your on the phone 2.5 days in saying "why aren't they finished yet??" Then are you being impatient....or is the cabinet company in the wrong? You post as if the games final version was put out already....not like we are 25% into alpha....12.5% total dev time...check out guppys dayz SA loading bar for a visual aid. Also as I said last time....with the money they made...they have bought a whole studio and put them on working on zombies (that seems to be your main gripe).....so they have done exactly what you wanted...put profit back into the game to address a core issue. -
The reason Zombie clipping isn't fixed.
Karmaterror replied to Dontstealmycheese's topic in General Discussion
Yes from a short term financial view, not pouring money into the game would protect profit. But how they handle this game now also speaks to the credibility of the company. Ultimatly its what they value most.....a quick cash grab now. Or to protect there integrity. Choosing to back his game properly will build there reputation. That reputation will decide the minds of many customers in the future. A company with a good reputation is much more likely to survive, BI will already be thinking to the future beyond dayz, and the implications there conduct with dayz will have on that futre :) -
For the fuelling maybe a semi-automated thing could work. Add a "Fuel Car" or even just a tank next to the tracks in a station. Then give us a "connect Hose" scroll option. Could still be a 5-10 min affair if you wanted full fuel, but at least it would leave the player free to cover it. Maybe even have loot items required to start refuelling. Could be cool if they positioned some of the other engines and cars so there were ways through that required getting out and flipping switches. If they wanted to go full realism (and with bandits in mind) they could have those boxes that trip the breaks placed along the tracks. Then have a key to the box as a super rare loot item in train stations. Could lead to interesting wars between people trying to run a train service, and the railroad bandits :) All in id love a train....maybe 2 per server :)

Il admit this was a very VERY old visit to dayzdb....but it told me 450 audiable range for zeds :( I used that value for my entire dayz mod sniping time aswell lol.....man I coulda been so much closer to zeds spawns :)

LOL,....some yanks.... Just because its a "poor" country dosent mean there isn't devision of wealth. Seeing a BMW or Merc wouldn't be out of place at all. See those office blocks in the cities.....ya really think the manager or CEO will be cruising to work in a GAZ....me thinks not. In fact the "poor" countys have the best alarm systems, look at South Africa with flamers and electric shock kits, personally think alarms would be pretty common. Now I was going to put in OP that maybe shooting it is a little unrealistic. The alarm sensors (if knocked) could go off from a shot, but its unlikely. So manybe a 20% chance of it going off from a shot....orrrr a very specific hitbox (different for each wreck model) to trigger it. The doors opening would be the primary way to set it off. Could even have some doors set it off some don't, as if the door sensor had seized :) Oh and no....cars shouldn't blow up on shooting the gas tank because that is Hollywood BS. But me thinks your view of other countrys is also a lil tainted by some Hollywood BS ;)

The reason Zombie clipping isn't fixed.
Karmaterror replied to Dontstealmycheese's topic in General Discussion
Seriously what are you on about....they only knew it would be so successful after it was put out there. THEY HAVE identified its success, and have started allocating funds to provide more staff. Its been 2 months since that was even a viable option. So in those two months they have bought out nother studio and dedicated them to zombie AI. That's a huge investment in only one part of the game. And was done pretty quickly (within 2-3 months) or realising the potential of dayz. As for your bounty idea....it wouldn't work. Dev teams around the world would undercut eachother to get the contract.....each making more outlandish claims to secure the contract. Then what if they don't deliver? simply because there estimates were dreams just to secure the work. NASA picked the lowest quote for the ISS....it overran by something like triple the budget and twice the time. That's what can happen when you make companies compete with guesses. They instead hand picked a team they trusted and put them to work :) -
Here is the REAL reason a lot people go to HC servers.....Its about the effect it has on the enemy....not them. If it was just about the effect on themselfs then there is a button for that. Its about not having 99 other people with a "magic periscope" or "wallhack" or whatever its being called these dayz. Simple fact is that having 99 players in the server with you that are armed with a "magic periscope" pumps the threat level through the roof compared to 1st....something SOME elitists have a hard time grasping. Glad at least someone can identify this key motivator....you have my beans :)

Im sorta thinkin that because they have been configured for loot it might be where we find most of our car parts....maybe each one will only have one or two working bits left but I think its the idea. Especially with them saying wel be salvaging parts from other cars to make ours. So some may have a little charge left in the battery :) I just think itd be awesome to be stealthily looting through a city on a 100man server.....then open up a car door and the alarm goes off alearting everything to your pos....imgain the fear for those initial seconds as you try to put distance between you and the noise....or franticly try t make it stop because you need the altinator or something from the wreck:) EDIT - Guess it depends on what spawns in the cars in the end....if its parts could work. But if its like family holiday or motorist gear (maps, bags, simple tools, food/drink) then maybe not :)

Hehe yeah....that value could be adjusted for balance....my first thought was make it really pierce the scilence of chernarus :)

This whole post should have been the nav mesh tutorial vid for hammer lol That might have hammered (no pun intended) home just how fiddly and time cosuming nav-meshing is.....even on tiny l4d levels :) -
Woooah that's some range Hopefully these are the more common "entry level" set, mill spec adjustable ones later. Are your FOV settings stock?

Will tents and bases reduce KoS mentality
Karmaterror replied to Jolunn's topic in General Discussion
Yes and no... At first people will be preoccupied with finding a tent, then finding a good spot to place it, filling it up with loot. So they wont be out just to kill people all the time. But once those tents are full of gear, people will want to go on a good old KoS spree because they have a reserve of gear. Them having perma-death, just as your player does means theres always the chance you can loose it all instantly to a group of camp hunters.....a dayz mod profession lol Ultimately I see tents as being the things that make the inland areas much more populated with players. Not just because people don't want there bases right by where people spawn, but for the logistics of being closer to a high value loot spot :)
