Basically you got a server too early lol I looked into it but decided against until the prices drop, and mor importantly, private hives come along. I think that's what you are wanting here. A private hive where you can enforce your own ruleset. Doing that on the pub hive just isn't feasible from the fair play viewpoint. So you enforce pve....then a bandit clan joins, gets fully geared at no risk. They then locate to an amazing nest and swap to a pvp server. A bit of patience and you will have pretty much everything you want in the OP. You have made the best move you can by letting it expire and waiting till dayz can fit your requirements :)

An interesting question here is.....What Mod?? When I reference the mod I think of vanilla. I hated epoch, overwatch and so on for basically making it into a RPG zombie version of CTI. Adding junk like economy and traders, then letting us establish these completely unrealistic bases. To me in a survival game a tent should be your only thing to call home. A tent with some wire fence round it is a "fortified base" to me, there was never any need to go so ott Some people probs think vanilla was boring, and that things like epoch gave it more depth. SA has a fine line to walk to keep everyone happy :)

His 1st ever death?? Its always bitter but never more than that 1st time lol. He just needs to regear a few times to see its easy and natural. After 5-10 deaths you just accept it and move on. I always have that rage feeling but now it only lasts about 2 seconds before it gives way to curiosity about how it went down :) You could always try to goad him... "whats up man....to noob to regear :P" Or kill yourself and regear to demonstrate how easy it is. Or grab a nice loadout for him in your pack, then say he dosent have to loot Or accept hes a rage monkey :P

I understand your point of a saturated market and the inability to generate new revenue. However I would say this much. Out of all my friends that I played dayz mod with....less than 50% have actually bought the SA. They have watched vids and read reviews, even undergone preassure from me to get it lol. They still haven't. I think theres a lot more money to be made with the SA. A lot of people aren't interested in buying an incomplete alpha. They want a full game to enjoy, and are happy to wait. I think there is a lot more market potential for dayz SA, but to tap it they will have to deliver :) BI as a company dosent seem (to me) to be about quickly churning out a product. They support and nurture there games so that years down the line they are still being played and added to. Wasn't that long ago they released the ACR dlc for A2. And the fact Arma 3 has gone through alpha....and beta....yet just the other week got a 700mb map update is a testament to this :)

No "Specialized" Cartridges [Torchia Tweet]

I don't want everything super rare, but one or two guns that hardly ever spawn would be awesome. I think it could work with the .50 cals, for two reasons. One they aren't that OP....as you say an SVD is just as deadly in the right hands. Two it unlocks a very rare and valuable ability....the ability to stop a wheeled vehicle dead in its tracks , instead of aiming for a wheel or the driver, someone could just lapm the engine block a few times and boom. Im with ya on the spawn system, I don't see whats wrong with just loot respawn % chance. Don't get me wrong the global item economy sounds great, but its not needed for every item. Just those few "party pieces" would need to be managed :) -
My answer is no.... We have all the info we need on the inventory screen. It only takes a couple of seconds to check and all status things can be seen. The only ones it dosent show are broken arms or legs, and that has real in game implications for us to spot. It feels to me like a constant intrusion on my immersion, especially in rain lol. I think it would be much better to just keep adding to the list of inventory boxes for other statuses, and keep our in game screens clear of clutter. So what you guys think, keep em or get rid?

Do we really NEED status messages anymore?
Karmaterror replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
In my mind it would be an uninterruptable animation....but only last a second or two. At the wrong time that could stab you in the back, but the length would make it not so bad to live with. Alls it is for in my eyes is a visual que sending the player to the inv screen to do a detailed assessment :) EDIT - oh yeah and an increasing amount of effect on gameplay. If your stomach is 50% sore (orange status box) its just one 2 second animation every 5 mins or so.....if its 95% (or a red status box) then its happening much more frequently...like once a min. -
No "Specialized" Cartridges [Torchia Tweet]
Karmaterror replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Maybe they just mean in the short term, like they want to focus on the guns they can do right now with the ammo they have. Then maybe later do some specialised stuff. I hope so at least, we do need a couple of guns in the game that 90% of players never see, making for those "omg....is that guy carrying a ...." moments :) -

Id love that....even now in alpha :) Inv only all the way for me lol -
Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?
Karmaterror replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
What restrictions are you reffering to? I always thought this engine was one of the most open and easily modable ones iv ever seen :) -
Is there an ETA on ambient sounds ?
Karmaterror replied to TheLast-StaR's topic in General Discussion
The engine is getting one hell of an overhaul at the mo. Waaaaay past fixing bugged sounds, that's an issue for beta, they cant spend all there alpha time fixing bugs and have 2 complete features in beta. They need to get all there 20(or whatever) features in and functioning one way or the other. Then when we enter beta its a whole year of dedicated bug fixing....balancing ect ect. Now is the time for big acomplishments,...IE, network bubble, Guaranteed network messaging, 64 bit servers, renderer upgrade.....if that isn't fixing the engine I don't know what it.... -
Do we really NEED status messages anymore?
Karmaterror replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
Well its good to hear its a placeholder....they do love those don't they lol Ithink a simple animation and status box on inv would be great, no clutter but all the relevant info relayed to player. The animation lets you know you have a headache or whatever, then digging a little deeper into inv you can see the severity. Animations could be real simple... Headache....hold head for a sec every few mins....gets quicker with severity Stomach pain.....hold stomach....same as above Sweating/High temp.....wipe brow....same again -

Karmaterror replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
I really did like that old UI, I just feel it would look nicer with nothing at all on our screens. Have it all there on the inv, quick to access and check, even in a firefight but no clutter :) -

Karmaterror replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
I think I know what ya mean....things for illnesses like "my stomach hurts" or something. That could also be done in the inv tho with a box that just states "stomach pain", maybe a small ingame hint like your guy rubbing his belly/head or whatever to lead you to checking the inv :) -
Do you think the aiming cursor should be in the game?
Karmaterror replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
Im sure they said its going away soon. Maybe someone knows the link. Im all for it going, only way to fire from the hip is to guess :) -
Personally im stuck in limbo at the moment... I play the mod for 30mins.....im pining for the cloths system, food drink system and extra buildings of the SA So I swap over.....30 mins in im pining for tents, vehicles, weapons and loot tat spwans in proper places. Not to mention zombies that can actually be a threat when looting. So I usually end up on the A2/A3 editor messing round with zombie scripts lol A few more things into the SA like respawning loot, zombie AI and base building....then il never look back. For now though id recommend the mod. Once you got your personal gear, toolbelt ect, its not so much a case of "where should I go to shoot peeps".....its more "what should I do next". Theres actually options beyond PvP :)

What song best represent ts DayZ's intended atmosphere?
Karmaterror replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=4N3N1MlvVc4 Don't know why but I think this could go really well with a DayZ promo vid :) Or the obvious choices... Johnny Cash - Hurt / When the man comes around :) -
That was a lot better than I expected, laughed loads....watch it! Next time I suicide a chopper in the mod im yelling "whaterver yolo!" :)

I was thinking about what dean said about private hives maybe considting of groups of servers or "shards". If this was the case I would suggest that they make each server in the group able to support a different map. For transitions id have triggers at the map edges to initiate a "do you wish to travel to...." option. Chernarus could link to two other shards and each other server 2 more....and so on for the size of the hive. If each map maker was to include a few screenshots at the correct res, maybe an ingame item could be needed to allow the menu option to show up. I was thinking a "Tourists guide to....". The item could pull the name on the cover from the map title in the game files, and decorate it with the screenshots included by the map maker. Upon getting the guide, traveling to the map edge and activating the the option, we could be confronted with a window. Here it would have suggested supplies to make the trip. Could read say...."10x canned food, xL water, and a tent needed to travel to......" If you have everything on the list then you arrive in the same condition you left in. However you can always attempt the journey regardless of your supplies. If you have say half of whats needed you will get there, but be in bad shape. Dehydrated, hungry low blood....more so the less supplies you have :)

If they did it they could stop you from re-joining the same server for an hour if you die on it. That way your buddys can still finish the fight and bring your gear to a new server, but you cant just re enforce the battle with your 2nd toon. That being said I feel one on the public hive is fine. We can have limitless versions of ourselves when private hives come along :)

Im sure they are planning something like this in beta, maybe towards the end in balancing things. Right now they want every player to be able to try out the gun, increasing the chances of finding bugs. Iv always thought the people that love SA as it is now, and never played the mod, are in for a shock when balancing starts lol. Im all for lowering the weapon spawns, make them spawn in logical places aswell for natural PvP zones, lets hope the devs go that way :)

Would you want back the reloading sounds when connecting?
Karmaterror replied to GunnyITA's topic in Suggestions
If they made the logout imitate our toons going to sleep, and the login waking up, then they could wake up with a hearty yawn :) -
Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.
Karmaterror replied to Bambi Population Control's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Is the mod the better gameplay experience right now....sure But its had a considerable headstart on the SA and worked within the restraints of the A2 engine. Now they are rebuilding it they can do a lot more. Once the basic feature that make dayz what it is find there way from the mod to SA it will improve a hell of a lot. There isn't even that much to add and il never look back. PS - on the wrecks and barricads thing....they are static objects, not built into the map. That allows them to be cached when no one is around. Id expect them to start placing things like that late alpha, even early-mid beta :) -
Id like to see parachutes as super rare loot items. If you store them in your heli then s many players can jump as there are chutes. Would probs have to have a scroll option to equip chute before ejecting. Always good to manage a safe landing (all be it without the heli) when you get shot down :)
