Maybe im expecting a bit much from base building. Im hoping for all sorts like wood working benches, makeshift furnaces, water tanks, agriculture. Some way for us to set up a fully self sufficient campsite. That should be the ultimate goal for the dayz player in my eyes.....becoming self sufficient. Untill ofc some bandit crew comes along and wipes it all of the face of chernarus in 30 seconds flat......after weeks of building and scavenging....perma death ftw lol But if they did do it with utility stuff, then some people may be less likely to destroy the camp instantly. If the owner had built a furnace....or for this idea had some caged chickens....the treasure hunter may leave it intact. Hoping that the owner wont realise hes skimming eggs at the rate of 1 per day....or helping himself to use of he furnace without having to build his own :) I think you are right, using it as a distraction would be a little niche, but I think it could be really valuable thing to be able to do. By the time the sniper realises all the zeds are chicken chasing you could have been in and out ;)

I hope mods get held off as long as poss. However when they do come, aren't most of those all private hives? The main pub hive should always be vanilla, and everything that enticed players about it should keep it populated. However I do fear the "vanilla" scene will die out quickly in the wake of mods :(

First discount of DayZ standalone on steam
Karmaterror replied to tenshu's topic in General Discussion
I have no problem with this.....either way people would have moaned... Put it in sale we have all that "cash grab" conspiracy Keep it out of sale.....and they would have even more conspiracy...."its a whole BI sale, but not dayz...look they trying to distance themselves from there failure already" The sale encompases there entire catalogue, Dayz is part of that... So I say HAPPY BIRTHDAY BI! .....and btw....THANKS for the sale, picked me up the mars exploration game :D -
I like the concept, servers would have to stop friends joining via steam. You could add the people you meet on steam then swap to the regular servers when your ready. I cant see clans braving the login timer long enough to all get on the same one of these servers, providing there are enough "anonymous" ones. You could be fairly sure most are lone wolfs, or teams created on the fly. Not seasoned Arma vets, in well organised packs, roaming round wasteland style lol Only downside I can see is not may people wanting to host a server they cant use with friends. Maybe if Bohimia/Server providers could give a cheaper rate for anonymous servers or something, to help promote them being used. Id like and option like this for lone wolfing :)

I support a live cancellable timer. I want an actual EVENT when I meet someone. Not a stupid husk of a player to give me a nice ego boost that I would have won anyway. Some of these guys that combat log I think are just afraid of combat. Making them face it with a live timer will build there confidence. Imagine they try to log as always, but its live....they see you approach through a window or whatever. The assessment then changes....there best chance to survive is to fight and they will know that. BINGO....now we have the firefight that should have happened in the first place actually happening. And if that guy that tried to lg wins....hes now going to feel more like sticking around next time and having a go. Also pump the timer....more like 1-2 mins, and peeps could still do the blind logout if they wanted by implementing that wow thing someone else mentioned....either wait and watch....or log out now and risk it leaving your guy in game :)

Suggestion: Decrease hit percentage => Lengthen the Rush + Reduce Artificiality
Karmaterror replied to cuddly_rabbit's topic in Suggestions
Ahha....I understand now.....yep all for that, anything that makes sniping more involved. Id love the tools of the trade eg rangefinder and wind metre to be like the compass, making "spotter" a real role not something a sniper can do all by himself in seconds. These range calculations could fit that role while the sniper keeps eyes on :D -

Karmaterror replied to cuddly_rabbit's topic in Suggestions
Isnt zeroing a real life thing on some scopes though? I would argue to keep zeroing in because it is realistic and can be a skill in itself. Guessing the range for that first shot is crucial. Get it wrong at big distance and it could end up loosing your prey. Even getting flanked in a worst case scenario. Anything that adds more variables to a shot is a good thing to me. Weapons themselves just need to behave properly, im no gun nut, so not very clued up on them. But iv read all the dispersion threads and agree they need to be fixed.....but keep zeroing that's just another level of immersion....maybe just have it on particular scopes :) -
Use the grss from ACR dlc, Easy fix for grass draw distance
Karmaterror posted a topic in Suggestions
OK we all know the problem.... You go prone in the grass and boom your view is complety obscured. Yeas I know we can crush it ;). But then a person hundereds of metres away can see you because it doesn't draw. So one could argue it works the wrong way round, hurts the player hiding init and hands the advantage to the guy who should have a hard time spotting. Well heres an idea to at least restore some balance to the whole thing. If anyone has the ACR dlc for A2 im sure you will have tried out the chernarus summer cutouts. On those they have a very lush green grass teaxture.....but its actually about the right length for grass. In some situations it will still obscure but much much less. And personally I think it looks cool as hehe. Icant seem to get imgur working atm, so if anyone has any shots to post please do. Il try and update this post later on if imgur cooperates. Those who have tried it will know what I mean though :) -

Karmaterror replied to Karmaterror's topic in Suggestions
Cheers Orlok, that's exactly the grass I meant :) Surely they could just rename the texture files that the object id's reference (guessing that's how those mods do it). Might be worth a try in beta, just see how well received it is. Unless ofc they have a planned trick up there sleeve for grass draw :) -
Great use of a piece of rope :) Context menu to "leash goat" then lead it away....point at any tree, context menu to tether goat to tree....love it :D

We are getting a full overhaull of animal AI, I cant see it being a huge problem to implement. The scripting for the release would be not to hard....travel in direction player facing for random time then return to normal wandering/avoidance patterns. Then we need X amount of models for the cage...."empty" "caged chicken" "caged rat" ect ect. They swap if yoy can corner a chicken and scroll to "catch chicken". All feeding of said chicken could be done via context menu and just give the cage 2 inv slots that wll only hold something like "grain" and "water". If the cage is empty of either for so long chicken dies. Then maybe a few more models for "dead caged chicken" ect. If its dead then you get a new scroll to "clean out cage" and try to get a new one :) Im looking forward to farming aswell. The mod already has plants that grow in the wild and pickable berrys are the 1st signs that it will be poss in the sa. It was easy enough to add astatic object in arma so adding a static, "hoed ground" texture (thinking alopment sized) shouldn't be so hard. From there lootable seeds addd to the "hoed ground" and away we go with basic farming :)

The Current State Of Development - DayZ - Understanding the Development Process
Karmaterror replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Mods will always evolve faster, they only have to decide "can it be done with what we have at our disposal" If its yes then ok lets try....if not ok lets move on. With the SA its a case of the same question but the answers change.... If its yes...ok lets do it.........if its no.....ok what needs to be done so we can do it. That then starts a whole host of changes, not even possible for modders. Its a whole different kettle of fish. Did the guys making these mods have to pull out chunks of the engine to update them....or begin re-writing how AI traverses the map? No they worked with what they had, ultimately (due to armas open modability) they will achieve great results. But that cannot be compared to making an engine from the ground up. Encountering a problem and not working round it, but backtracking and implementing support for it, something modders cant do :) -
The Current State Of Development - DayZ - Understanding the Development Process
Karmaterror replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
You need to do more research.... This is a rough timeline as I remember it... Bohimia release A2 Rocket and co make dayz mod Bohimia offers rocket the chance to devlop a standalone version of his mod They make an engine based off other bohimia angines Here we are now :) The initial money for the project was fronted by bohimia.....some would argue that a lot of that money was a direct result of dyz mod boosting A2 sales. Bohimia is a studio not a publisher, they make all there own games in house as far as I know. So yes Bohimia is responsible for dayz sa as I see it :) -
Current Zombies are "placeholders". What will final zeds look/be like?
Karmaterror replied to blazinone's topic in General Discussion
Finished zeds will be kick ass! Nice close spawning to keep preassure up during looting and make it near impossible to fire a gun in towns Stealth will be just as effective as in arma....if not an even better brand new system :D -
Is DayZ being developed right in your opinon?
Karmaterror replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Personally I think its going fine. You say you feel things like zombies are being left to the wayside....I cant understand that, not when they re-invest a chunk of profit on a dedicated zombie AI studio. If anything that makes me think they are priority number one. Just because we aren't seeing in-game improvement with every patch dosent mean the work isn't getting done. With something like a navmesh I would expect it to drop like a bomb, without much warning, in one of the updates. Then from there do fixing and tweaking :) -
The mod was bending something to your will, this is not. This is being coded from the ground up for dayz. Hence...taking a while. OK so the BRAND NEW physics SDK is a lil wonky...but its a prototype. Nothing works flawlessly on the 1st attempt. So the whole engine s flawed because this new feature didn't work perfectly 1st time round?

Remove night-time for now, until it's fixed?
Karmaterror replied to TheGreatPerson's topic in General Discussion
I think its that we didn't have dynamic clouds in the mod so they never effected it....now there are 3 factors to the trick lol :) -
Lack of development progress.....this baffles me every time someone says it. Maybe its because you haven't goy Kool Zeds yet, or the whole "they still run through walls" thing. Is it so hard to educate ones self and research what they are actually doing. The have implemented 2 very noteworthy systems into an older engine....those being Gauranteed network messaging and the network bubble. On top of that they are working on 64bit servers and pulling the renderer to update it. And as for that zombies through walls thing....google l4d navmesh tutorial.....then take a pot guess at how long it would take to do something akin to that on a map like chernarus. Not to mention they were only able to bring on board a dedicated studio AFTER the initial success. They had to take time to decide how to spend the money, where to spend it, sit down with people and discuss how to spend it. Then after deciding the studio they went with has to actually be brought up to speed on the engine....and then.....after all that.....START WORKING. Money can create as many issues as it solves I will concede that 10-20 mins is completely unreasonable to ask someone to make there server conform. Work social engagements could all get in the way of doing it. But hey if you didn't conform in the first place to the ToS you kinda did it to yourself. Also im sure a quick reply email to say your at work but will make the changes ASAP would have been ok. PS why compare hacking to server admin rights? server admin rights wont change for the pub hive....ever, hacking will be phased out by ban waves....I really don't get this. You are not in any way being vilified like a hacker

Karmaterror replied to TheGreatPerson's topic in General Discussion
Hmmm you sure? I jus tried it and its like it always was....clouds off >gamma up>brightness a lil.....easy to play on a server set at 2am ;) EDIT - All gamma ever did was change it from pitch, to a washed out black white and grey colour scale ;) -
10-20 zeds in a horde? Think more like 100-200 myself ;) The mod had 4-6 zeds spawning out of nearly every building, you could build up monster agro in the big cities. Im all for hordes, I have a cool scenario in my head where a survivor thinks hes spotted another survivor on the horizon of a hill. The lillte KoS nab decides to shoot him......only it wasn't a survivor....it was a horde that he only saw one of. When he shoots its like something out of Total war games and a mass of zombies crest the hill sprinting towards the sound :D

Devs just make it a live logout already.....iv said this many times before. Noone has therecombat or "interaction" preserved by this method. Wasn't that the point of it, to make an actuall angagement or meet happen where people just logged out?? Now we have exactly what we had in the 1st place....we loose the human element instantly and have no chance for a firefight or interactin. The bst way to get players to engage in thes activities more is to desensitize them to it. A live timer makes them not only face the situation (maybe making it less of an unknown and therefore let it happen next time), but it also actvly teaches players what they are doing wrong. As a hunter I would much rather my prey stand and fight when I get close if they know the attempt will fail. Rather than just be confronted with a lifeless punching bag. They have said the log out is a work in progress so hopefully something will be done about eventually. This is a yolo troll system that we have now.....it trolls the legit players by enticing us with an interaction/firefight....then leaves us with an empty experience ! :)

Me 2! Never posted it because I thought it was just me. In a way its good to know it isn't. If anyone fixed this please help.....I cant remember but im sure it happens on A2 aswell. I do remember noticing it when I upgraded my rig and it had an AMD card :(

Remove night-time for now, until it's fixed?
Karmaterror replied to TheGreatPerson's topic in General Discussion
Well I live in a rural area of the UK, and trust me dark means dark. Means you cannot see your hand if you hold it at arms length from your face and cannot see the floor directly in front of you lol. The flashlight isn't perfect but most aren't searchlights lol. They do have a very restricted illumination area. If the torch is supposed to be a cheap civil one (the one we spawn with I mean) then it should be useless. I think some peeps want the normal flashlight to be like on of those ott hiking ones with 2 halogen lamps and a belt battery pack. Now those things will light up an entire hillside up to about 200m, but the dark void still appears after that. To put it into perspective....I enter and leave my house multiple times per day.....at night I still trip on the step sometimes because I cant see it :) -
So now your ranting about bugs, you can have what you want if you just want. I get you need to vent but man, tis turning into unhinged ranting, about more than server admin issues. You wouldn't buy a new car that states 50mpg then rant if because you aren't getting 60mpg. You were fully informed, and made a consumer decision. Maybe not the best decision, but you seem to have wanted something it clearly states you cant have...... YET ;)

Karmaterror replied to TheGreatPerson's topic in General Discussion
This^^..night is....wait for it....DARK lol Also you spawn with the flashlight, don't see how so many people moan over night time. Making it lighter is breaking a very nice realistic night time, keep it dark devs, just sort out the gamma adjustments so all the whiners stop with the "Its unfair cos he can see me and I cant" :)
