Its not Dayz until you cant loot hangers for being swamped in zeds! :)

You have the choice not to play in that view.... Sounds like a you problem... Quit moaning and play 1pp... Nothing more needs to be done.

There was an rpg in the mod......the American one....damit cant remember the name. Was an incredibly rare spawn at the barracks, I actually save up a few rounds and had the launcher at one point....went to nwa and tried to shoot down a heli with it....missed and got sprayed by door gun before I could get behind a tree lol It took your backpack slot so was a good trade off. The missiles were 3 (or was it 6) inv slots each so it was a really dedicated role if you wanted to use it :)

I errr.....may have been guilty of this in the mod.... :) ....Only on direct though lol

Would the takeover of a complete new studio, dedicated to zombie AI qualify as focusing on the pathfinding issue....because that's what they have done. So while they can continue implementing crucial survival elements to the game the pathfinding studio has one task to focus on. When it drops the procedural navmesh will really change the way the zombies behave. But its not an easy task to create one for a map the size of chernarus. As long as its in by the end of the alpha, which we are only halfway through, its right on schedule. Yes but the alpha has only been up for 5 months. The relece of alpha was simple saying they had a working platform to build on. Those prior two years were not about adding features ect, but about creating the engine to support there vision. Its not uncommon for games to take a few years to make. If you look round the forums a bit you will see them moving to get rid of things like this. Just last week they moved the mag ammo count serverside to remove the unlimited ammo glitch. Sure I heard they found something not long ago that will stop people getting through walls but I cant remember what the fix was. Basically the right people are on the job....but Rome wasn't built in a day ;)

Not sure about SA but pretty sure Arma2 had a proper yearly cycle thing going on. So if it was, say December, in game it would get dark very early. Maybe the devs have got it set on that sort of date. I have experienced the server being lit completely differently when reconnecting from a DC (not a restart) for no real reason lol. Maybe a desync or server lag issue?

Hey guys, so at the moment I see quite a few posts saying something like "this is the SA not the MOD" or "you cant compare SA to he MOD" and this bothers me. The MOD had a winning formula. It was amazingly popular, even with its many flaws. When they announced SA the said "a standalone version of the MOD" not a completely different game bearing no resemblance to the original. I really believe that it had so many things nailed and all they need is expanding on, not completely changing. Why shouldn't they remember there roots, and what made dayz such a success in the first place. Now that's not to say they shouldn't learn from there mistakes there and bring that knowledge into the SA. But in my eyes that formula shouldn't be tampered with too much, and should be upheld moving forwards through development So what do you think, should we remember and hold true to dayz's roots. Or throw them out of the window and do it completely differently?

Am I the only person not looking forward to private hives or modding?
Karmaterror replied to Lady Kyrah's topic in General Discussion
Im split on this, Private hives yes, modding no. I realise the two kind of go hand in hand , but the benefits of a private hive are so much more than just the ability to mod. The create proper little communities of players, the players build reputation amongst that community and a form of polotics arises. For some those long term survival dynamics are what makes dayz, and in my experience its rare to find such a community inside the public hive. But as far as mods are concerned I hope we can avoid them for as long as poss. They will only splinter the community and as you say people choose the path of less resistance. When mod comes along that sticks barracks in every costal town, starts you with a mosin and has hundereds of vehicles, that's the one most players will choose. That will kill vanilla dayz :( But, I have to say again, I think private hives and moddability are 2 separate issues. Private hives if done right, could deliver an awesome experience to people :) -
Why we Should Compare SA to the MOD
Karmaterror replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
Indeed there has to be flexibility , but at the same time there (for me anyways) has to be some level of conforming to the old method. So that we retain that authentic dayz feel, and style :) -
They have a dynamic system that raycasts all the time to generate the navmesh. Its a little over my head to be honest, They call it a "procedural navmesh". Its not like a static one, as hand creating a static one would be too time consuming :)
-
I get your topic, I just disagree. I think that persistence is crucial to the dayz experience and they were my reasons why. Does no one remember the mod.....the persistent world was one of its main features :(
-
Camps that last have to built in obscure areas with little to no player traffic. That means a big hike to get back to something that may not even be there anymore. That adds to the tension. Anytime you are away your camp can be destroyed. There is absolutely no long term survival goal without persistent camps. They are the source of clan wars, pranks, late night raids. I think people are forgetting theres only one way to die in dayz atm....other players. When few angry zeds can actually kill you, or a car crash can lead to unconscious until it blows up, or you can crash the heli, or get run over.........or...or OK iv run out for now but that's why we need persistent camps....yey put up a tent (maybe make 1 supply run)......YOLO bandit crew find you and kills you.....tent gets deleted....what was the point lol ;)

I hope those cows are placeholders for something. They look just like the mods, any hint of new AI on them atall...that's the big one im waiting for??
-
They had these servers in the mod.....I didn't know for ages then was shown one by a friend. Absolute KoS fest....that's all they were for, people who felt zombies got in the way of there PvP. Personally I think it takes a lot from the game when you don't have to brave the zeds for loot. Not against it, but not my cup of teas sorry :)
-
True, I sorta thought it would be more of a way to pull players back after long breaks....like this month Tac vests will be spawning in the tables....then for the next month something else, and so on, maybe with 6 items so each month its a diff one. Imagine someone posting a pic of there gear with all 6 featured items. Then they would play more on a certain month to hunt down a specific item instead of shelfing the game indefinatly and playing something else. It may be too much effort, and as you say too much like the already planned global loot economy :)

[EXPLANATION] How software development works
Karmaterror replied to Element47's topic in General Discussion
Best run down of development ever! :D -
So how much of a thrill do you cheaters get when playing DayZ?
Karmaterror replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Cheaters = God complex....Nuf said lol The theme tune they all circle jerk to is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jnv0ejmLlY&feature=player_detailpage -
Not at all never said that, I used rugby as an example of how fast a human being can change direction, or side step. You are only moaning that people in a game behave like people in a game its not an issue with the representation of human movement, its an issue with the mentality of gamers ;)
-
Are you really saying now that people strafing side to side as they run across a field, to avoid sniper fire is unrealistic.....man....facepalm. Watch a game of rugby, humans can change direction almost instantly when they have to. Cricket is another example, when they get runs they quickly change direction to go the opposite way and that does not take long for the direction change at all. Humans don't carry momentum very much, we can stop on a dime and be off again in another direction instantly....... bleep test anyone?? :P
-
Oh man I bet that guy was pissed to loose an item hed kept for so long....and cant get again. That's dayz though.....maybe an idea there... do like "featured" items that only go into the loot tables every now and then creating some truly rare items in Chernarus :)
-
Here ya go... :)
-
LOL Try the first town up the east coast. They would presumably all head there 1st before heading up to berezino or off into the map depending wether they want deathmatch or survival :) Berezino itself is always the wild west. Or if you want some good combat against geared players get to NWA. Will be much less frequent combat but much more challenging and rewarding :)
-
I would think that "for personal use " is ok. The problems come when people start posting guides and vids about chernarus+ in A3 editor. Or sharing it around with friends. But from what I read its not great using it in A2/A3 editor because the ai wont react to the new buildings or something :) EDIT - I may be wrong though lol

i wanna start hoarding ! whats up with persistent storage?
Karmaterror replied to brumey's topic in General Discussion
Soon (trademarked) hehe Seriously, I think we are looking at a simple form of it in the next patch. Then from there they can build on it once they know the system works well. Think it was gonna be fridges first, if I remember right :) They will come and im sure the devs haven't abandoned the idea.....I did hear they floated the ide of making everything persistant....literally every item....maybe that has something to do with t not happening last patch :) -
Without an alpha we wouldn't have them doubling in house team size... Without alpha we wouldn't have them bringing a whole new studio in for zed AI.... Without alpha we wouldn't have had half as many bugs found in such a short period.... Without alpha we have had such a big cash injection.... Without alpha we would still have a tiny team working there asses off, while trippl A studies bubmle there way to something generic but enough like dayz to pull in the masses. If I may flip it a bit.....was it not that the alpha was a bad idea.....but some players choice to buy at this stage? ;) I mean they could hold out....using some vids and the torchia pics as teasers untill such time it looked at a stage they could play. The alpha though....that has only been good for dayz in my eyes :)
