Im pretty sure that's exactly how my night would have ended if that guy had something more powerfull than a bison. But I learnt long ago, if you wanna go out and be a heli hero (aka idiot lol) only gear that comes with is 2xfood 2xdrink and either a pistol or an entry level ak :)

My Quick Opinion on Future Development of DayZ
Karmaterror replied to FanaticModz520's topic in General Discussion
To OP the best way iv heard it put is.. "Optimising code that's changing is counter productive" Basically performance and bug fixing needs to be done on a locked "final" version of the code. Otherwise a new feature my end up causing much the same bugs as the last. Then they just end up wasting time fixing the same errors over and over (and the new errors aswell). Best to get it to a point where they aren't really going to be making new bugs....then blitz the bugfix list :) -
If you ask me that's just one more reason for the devs to look into a live logout timer again. That way you can stop the person from logging if needs be. Wont stop the dedicated ctrl, alt, del guys. But for a lot of players just having the logout button greyed would be enough. ATM we still loose the human element at the exact same time we used to....when the player hits logout. We need that human to stay connected to there avatar while they log, and let us stop the process. Would lead to a lot more encounters ending in player to player interaction....instead of player to NPC husk interaction. Anyways....douchbag stories....from the mod but hey... So I log in one night, pitch black, got NVG and only bout 10 online... so the hell with it....lets take the huey out for a spin. Flying over Cherno I see a torchlight bouncing round as I approach. I shout out on global and tell the guy he really should swap to a chemlight or hel end up getting shot. Short convo later and we are in a tense meet at the docks. I tell him long as he keeps his wep lowered I wont tae off and he can have a lift wherever. Turns out he didn't have a wep.....bonus :) So he asks for a ride to NWA, no probs I say. We bearly get off the coast and I spot a CS burning bright against the night sky. I tell him that when we land, let me sort the zeds and he can cherry pick the loot (had big camp at the time). We get back to the chopper and hes now nicely ready for NWA, with some camo cloths and a bison with some mags. By this point the server has emptied out completely for the night and its just us 2. So I set it down right in front of the hangers and he gets out.....then I saw it...."hang on a second m8"....I knew what was happening......why didn't I take off... Instead I decide to type good luck....or something equaly ironic....as he starts laying bison rounds through the windscreen. I quickly realised as my screen blurred that I wasn't going to fully spool up in time, I was starting to get lift but hed easily land 5-10 more rounds before I took off. Only one thing for it....I held W and let the heli do its whole front roll onto the rotors. A second after I passed out from the gunshots I heard the boom of the heli go up....and a very satisfying second death message pop up right after mine :D What a f'in DOUCHBAG!

Why does Dayz not have a proper gun detection system ?
Karmaterror replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Id go for an auto lowering for obstructions....or an auto raise like in the screenshots. It would just make movement more fluid and realistic. Still keep the manual lowering and give it the same effect, then you can tell if that guy against cover has his weapon drawn or has it properly lowered :) -
What is Persistent Loot going to look like?
Karmaterror replied to Mr Jizz's topic in General Discussion
I don't like the idea of stuff following you round from server to server. The base should tie you down to that server, if you want a base on a high pop you have to build it under those conditions, not just build it elsewhere and then "bring it along for the ride". I thnk that the whole tents everywhere scenario will be combatted by the "global loot economy". So if 50 tents are up on that server no more will spawn there. And when a few servers have a lot of tents they will spawn less across the entire hive to keep it in check. Only as tents are destroyed would they come back into the loot tables. Maybe that's whats the holdup on persistant objects, with them wanting to do something like backpacks as persistant. First they need a way to control the amount that spawn :) -
No streamer can really moan about getting sniped. Maybe a little out of date now with no sidechat, but... Dayz rule No.2 Never tell anyone where you are :) Maybe stream sniping is what all the sidechat ambush baiters are up to these days lol

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Karmaterror replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Yeah im not a fan of how they behave either. I wish they were faster and hit quickly, atm the attack animations are so slow, and there AI....well lets just hope the navmesh helps. They defo need an overhaul there, but I really think the need for stealth will be born from numbers. I remember that tipping point in the mod...when so many were wandering in through the doors I had to just leave, maybe leaving loot behind aswell. Melee should be the bread and butter weapon of choice when moving round looting, until a crossbow or silenced gun. Firing a noisy gun in a town should be a big no imo. Only if you have to for a PvP encounter. Like my first ever enfield shot in Cherno from a pub....sooo many zeds that came up the stairs....had like one mag, no melee, and thought I was a badass..."you are dead" :) -
Why are there basically no 3pp:off servers - grow a pair.
Karmaterror replied to dubghall's topic in General Discussion
That can happen in 1st aswell....what if I come up behind someone....and they ya know....don't see me. The point is its much easier for your enemy to remain concealed and track you in 3rd.....so its harder on you....simple.....LOGIC £rd also gives a lot back to the defender after the 1st shot....they can take cover and scan....thus making life harder for the attacker. On a 1pp server the attacker can cover the over they are using and move knowing they wont spot unless they lean.....on 3pp however they can....so you have to be a lot more cautious on your approach.....HARDER Arrrggghhh This is exactly what I mean....if the rest of the server can do that....as apposed to cannot....that will make life harder on you....simple. You cannot comprehend checking rooftops from a hill prior to entering the town....!?!?!?!? Man I see why some of you guys need everyone else on the server to be in 1st to survive now. And that means what....you have to keep scanning every few seconds....harder....simple logic again. Well theres some logical counter points to everything you are saying. Im sorry if your ego is getting more and more bruised as you slowly realise it is in fact you that has been playing "easymode" while the rest of us man up and face the challenges presented by a 3pp in a shooter game. But its ok, no need to reply, we all know that you guys run crying from the 3pp peekers....why should we expect any different here :) -
Need to talk to a DEV. Or someone like that.
Karmaterror replied to srgt.scales's topic in General Discussion
You don't need a dev... Zeds are based on 28 days later zeds....not walking dead ones. They aren't the dead coming back to life type, they are the infected with something type. Rotton food is there for 2 reasons so far, first is poisoning people, second is to make the loot tables have some sort of "junk" loot. Its just a way to dilute the tables and control loot rarity :) PS the devs don't have the time to be talking to everyone, I highly doubt the will be able to do a personal Q&A with ya. But there's lots of people who are well informed around here who can help ya :) -
Sight alignment yes, The gif one is maybe a little over the top, and it looks a bit like its the butt of the gun that's swinging out of line....shouldn't it be the barrel? But something like that would go great with wind/weather effecting shots aswell. I don't get why the guns don't just have realistic spread...by the time its finished making a shot with them as they are now + everything else will be hell lol. The second part about trigger simulation got me thinking.. I used to play PR and I did love the mechanics of it. But that system seemed a little simplistic, something iv not really seen before in a game is it simulating you actually pulling the trigger. Don't know if it would work but maybe some system where to fire the gun you have to click hold and pull back...all very quickly ofc, just a little. Then depending on how smoothly you did it. it could effect the shot down range slightly. It could be used to simulate guns with "hair triggers" aswell. Some would go off with the smallest movement back, some would need a bit more of a "pull". Maybe its a bit much....but that's what jumped to mind :)

OK so what im thinking is that the devs could have some more fun with the alpha process. Might help to spice things up a bit until its more feature packed. Couple of my ideas would be.. 1, Playing around big time with the loot/zombie ratio As I understand it there is a global item cap on the server. Zombies, loot items, basically anything that spawns on server up counts towards the item cap (do correct me if im wrong on that lol). So they could do a "mini-patch" that reduces loot and increases zombie numbers for a week or so, then readjust it (maybe for crazy loot numbers) and so on. Might be more of a beta thing but a bit of preliminary data never hurt anyone. Also it would just change up the landscape of the game a bit every now and then (like a bit more frequently than the patches). 2, Playing with time acceleration Same as above really, speed it up, slow it down, keep it changing and record some feedback. Again maybe more of a beta thing, but could be done now to test the water and keep things fresh. So would you guys be up for some big messing round with mechanics to have some fun with the alpha.....or would it just piss you off to have things changing all the time? Also any other ideas for some fun they could have with the tools already ingame during alpha?

Teeth man teeth lol Trust me you can and will find a way if you have to. I once had to cut bungie cord with 2 rocks in a Malaysian jungle....wasn't easy but got there in the end. Maybe we could get the option to rip tougher cloths with a knife or something :)

At What Point Will You Say, "This Is Now DayZ"?
Karmaterror replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Tents/persistant storage Increaced zombie count Stamina system That would probs get me playing more...add... Vehicles Finished Map Infections And il never look back :) It just feels like a stripped out dayz still, when a few of the features from the mod make it back in (tents/camps) in particular, it will start to feel a lot more like dayz. People wont be out soley to Kos....well some will....but most combat will be random encounters while you are trying to do something else....stock a tent....get car parts...ect ect :) -
It could just be bad luck....or it could be a bug that's been around since A2. That bug is that other people cant see your direct, but you see theres, or vice versa. Usually a relog sorts it out, if not find a different server. The problem is even if you know people can see yours then others may have the bug and you don't see theres. The best thing to do is buy a mic....for some odd reason iv never had the bug with voice....only text :)

Why are there basically no 3pp:off servers - grow a pair.
Karmaterror replied to dubghall's topic in General Discussion
1. then by that logic 1st is also unfair if one arty is aware and one is not. the attacker has the same advantages. 2. roof campers....yes....if you didn't ADAPT realises that could happen and check the roofs from an elevated position prior to entering the town... Also even in 3rd the shooter WILL have to expose themselves to take the shot. Regular checks of the roofs for that shadow popping up are crucial. Theres 2 reasons its harder in 3rd, less time to aquire target when exposed, and more concealment for the enemy. So now you cant be shot by a camper in 1st?....come on. Its perfectly possible thers a sniper in one of a dozen nests on HC around any given town....you may not spot them and you may get shot. That's a problem with the mentality of some players.....not 3rd person view. Now this is what I talking about right here.... Why exactly shouldn't we look at how it effects the other players....that was the whole point of HC.....to effect the other players on the server. Don't try and sugar coat it....if people just wanted to play 1st that view is avalible on any 3pp:on server....it was ALL about how it effected other players. Now you say its harder for you to track someone.....its also harder for them to spot you.....by your own admission its easier to spot in 3rd and harder for you to track in first. Logicly its harder for the guy you are tracking to spot you. Experiment with it....so much easier to get close in HC....I know from experience. You said it best at the end...."makes it a different game" yes its different because there are 10x more possabilities to think about during a firefight. But not easier at all. So the defender cant take cover and start scoping with 3pp.....just like his attacker? How does one person "hold all the cards" if 3pp makes spotting easier surly logic dictates its easier for a defender to spot an attacker than it I in 1st. It makes no sence....first you guys say... "its easy mode to easy to spot and kill" - well if that's true for you its true for the other 99 players....its easier for them to kill you making it a harder experience.....come on guys that's not rocket science....that's simple common sense. As I said in other post though, yeas 1st is harder on the individual and more immersive. But harder environment....no way....3pp is where the harsh environment is at :D -
Absolutly love the idea of them leading a pack of angry zombies back to you if it goes drastically wrong. Every little system like this should have a chance to fail....keep that dayz uncertainty and tension. Besides....animals are unpredictable at the best of times...I have this great scenario in my head now... "hey m8 watch what we can do with chickens now!" *releases chicken at big city* *chicken runs towards city.....many zombies get pulled* *chicken shits its self and runs strait back at them* *2 guys run from epic zombie train (and the chicken lol) while one says....* "yeah.....great that was m8!"
-
This is a great idea. Seen it before but not quite like this. If the zeds were attracted to blood we could teather an animal outside a city and cut it with a knife, then it slowly pulls zeds as the scent travels on the wind. Could slowly start seeing them wander towards it then attack when close enough. For the letting them free one im all for that. I made a thread about small animal cages and had same thinking. Let a chicken out of its cage at the city limits....it runs (almost) strait away from you, pulling the zeds as it goes. Should always be a chance for it to fail though, maybe a high chance to pick a direction within 90 degrees of player facing, and a much smaller chance for 180 degrees from player facing. Then every now and then an uncoopretive animal would bolt away at 90degrees....strait away from the city you were pointing at.....DOH! :)

I see the DLC being mostly items like cloths and weapons. If you look at bohimias past they tend to just update the map as a whole, to keep consistency, that "DLC" is never paid for. Then they just give everyone the extra guns/cloths but if you haven't purchased the dlc you get reduced texture quality. I don't see any problem with them following that ethos for DLC :)
-
Yeah the thing to remember with vehicles is they wont be spawning in in a working state. I think some have a rosy vision of stumbling across a bike on the coast...jumping on....and going for a ride. When in reality it would be more like find a bike....spend 10-20 mins crawling along to a tree to hide it in....then going out to scrounge all the needed bits....then going all the way back to fix it. Even then it could have been moved by someone else and all that time was wasted. They will be a mixed blessing if they do nerf run speed. So be carefull what you wish for :D

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Karmaterror replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
While I do agree that individually they aren't a threat, im sure this problem will be combated (at least slightly) by increasing the numbers. So while its easy to dance with that one zombie and keep him occupied, the other 10-20 attacking you will just swamp you and deal damage from all directions. Basically one zombie should never really be much of a threat....there power comes from there numbers :) -
That would be good for steaks and fish, anything where you are frying something. But broths and soups wouldn't need it, maybe if they did it so it could burn much easier without oil, when trying to fry, because lets face it, if you were starving....you would fry without oil lol :)

BIG NEWS ! submachine-gun, tents, teddy bears, and much more
Karmaterror replied to rotteck's topic in General Discussion
The model for "packed tent" looks a little lacking....jus looks like a green cylinder lol New animals look cool as....everything looks good lol Good that we can get different sized tents (well that's a guess from the "medium" bit), hopefully much later they will add military tents. Every shape and size from a 1 man bivvy to a big mill supply tent. Just ones that will blend a bit better :) Tents though....man been waiting for this....its getting more and more like dayz now :D
