Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Karmaterror replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
This is good, getting that "don't fire your weapon in town u nab!" aspect back a bit. Melee should be bread and butter weapon in towns to keep a low profile, firing a gun only in an emergency.....and being ready to bolt from the horde of zombies when ya do :) -
Im hoping the loot system ties into persistence so a restart will mean nothing but a little more server performance. So when its restarted it comes back with loot in exactly the same places as before. That would kill the restart mentality outright. For rairity, its something that cant really be tweaked till they finish populating the tables, add some more junk loot and refine the systems a bit :)

Its in the patch notes for stable, no (disabled for this update) or anything :( Thanks for the info, I like the building system. When they said it was going to be per quadrant I thought what!?!? that's a huge step backwards from per building. Preferably id like to just see the mods style in there, approach building loot spawns (OFC managed by the global loot economy) then walk away and it despawns :)

Isn't item permanence counterintuitive to permadeath?
Karmaterror replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Don't start calling item persistence a crutch aswell....man I hate it when people try to enforce an opinion that way. And its fine for perma death. Your camp has perma death aswell....at any time it can die....even without you dying personally....if anything that adds to the survival dynamic. You could very well run the 30-40 mins back to your camp and find its gone....now if you skipped looting because "hey I got a camp" then its just hurt....not helped you. Also its not "instant regear" If you camp anywhere sensible (where players wnt find it) it will be a considerable run from any spawn point. As in the mod you could find you have looted most of your essentials before you arrive back and may ot even bother visiting your camp. If ya think peepes sat at there campsites guarding them in the mod, you are wrong. Iv never seen that in over 1000hours of play. They place stratigicly in a concealed spot and continue playing. Campsites were hunted methodically, on high pop (50 or above) a camp wouldn't last more that a few days. Persistance was not a cruthch, it was a design decision in the mod and did nothing but add a huge dynamic to the game.....something im sure dayz would not have been half the game it was without. Still the biggest point is that the camp also has perma death.....that only adds to the tension and survival aspect of the game :) -
Screenshots>f12 Heasdset>I recommend turtle beach x12 - Got it for £20 on Amazon and works great On Topic - If you are a lone wolf keep all your best gear, people will shoot you no matter what you are wearing. To me theres no point trading down to look friendly when the other player will just justify the kill some other way...."oh look a bandit gearing up" when really they haven't a clue how you are playing. Practice getting close without getting seen, then making contact before they know you are there. I think it helps a lot when they know you could have ended them already, but have decided to make contact instead. Fosters a little mutual trust maybe. Some people will still backstab though....even after a while and a few loot runs together....such is dayz :)

Some Constructive Criticism about developemental direction: (WARNING! LONG POST!)
Karmaterror replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Hmm seeing a lot of "development slow" type posts here but it just isn't true... They budgeted one year to include core features and lets take a look.... Hunting....IN Navmesh.....IN Tents.....IN Cooking....IN Network bubble....IN Real Melee...IN Loot respawn....Waiting New renderer....Waiting More zombies....Waiting Vehicles....Waiting That aint bad, more than half way through the features a little over halfway through projected alpha time. Bearing in mind the logistics and other issues involved with allocation of the funds they didn't know they would have when the project started. Some of the guys saying they have business experience should be able to understand that. Also the budgeted a year after alpha to refine and polish the features. Now with what they have accomplished thus far plus the rest of the alpha and the beta......sorry but they are pretty much right on track. Bar the understandable delays with funds allocation. Its simply impatience, they told us it would be a year till all features were in....it hasn't been a year yet.....they told us another year for beta.....that hasn't even started yet. No fanboi-ism in this post.... just facts :) -
As far as im aware....not yet :( Its something I really want in aswell, the three I was waiting for were Hunting, Camps and item respawn. Once it is in il play a lot more, only thing il really be waiting for then is more zeds :)

The best loadout is really whatever you feel most at ease with. I had a buddy in the mod who would always use a MOD0....even if we had a tent full of AS50, was just the wep he preferred and he was good with it, even at very long range. If you are sporting the AKM with drum mags, id probs say you would play the approaching role. What you need now is a sniper to watch the meet from a good 400m+ away for cover. :)

EXP - Map now shows the players exact position
Karmaterror replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Hope its a bug.... Player markers....whats next....waypoints.....NO! The main problem I have with player marker is it removes any and all skill from reading a map and means you can never be lost if you have one. If you want your cords without having to read the terrain, find a GPS! :) -
As far as I understand it....just like the mod so... 1, Yes, only on the server you pitched it on though. It stays when you are logged off aswell. 2, Yes and yes. Your tent will always be at risk of someone finding ad looting it. When vehicles come running over tents may become a hobby for some aswell lol

In a survival game with severely limited resources, WTF...
Karmaterror replied to tootights (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Like this, just having the different punch and block types would diversify melee so much. Most of the time people use a pretty default "boxing" style in street fights anyway....I think martial arts moves are a bit too much. Maybe a basic set of kicks learnt from a book or something but that's it. Most of the street fights iv seen the ones that start throwing kicks and stuff loose out to the "brawler" that just takes hits and waits for a good opportunity. With the block system we can do that, like rolling your hands round your head to block waiting for the uppercut chance when they try a haymaker :) Making me want to play some old x-box boxing games like rocky and fight night now lol -
Maybe they protect against the elements. Like...leave a gun just out on the ground and its condition will degrade, but inside a tent and its more protected :)

Only reason right now is to support the game, its in active development so admin tools cannot be created without knowing what they need to manage and how..They could end up having to re-write or add to the tools with each new game feature, so makes sense to just compile the tool at the end. Id expect a pretty robust admin tool to show up mid to late beta time once all features are in, and when private hives are implemented :)

Endgame... Camping (and fighting over camps/Items) Diplomacy (relations, truces, pacts with other groups) Vehicles (fixing, hiding, having them stolen, recovering them, holding them for ransom) PVP (comes last on my list lol) When you loose that camp that you spent weeks building up, you will be pissed and see true dayz endgame. This game is all about emotions, from fear and helplessness at the start, to tension and fear during engagements, then rage (x10 of a normal game because of the effort put in) at dying or loosing a camp. If you play on the same server all the time you will get to know the regulars, and who the likely culprits will be....a new clan war is born :) These wars can be brilliant back and forths....They loot your camp, put everything you own into your cars, then roll off into the sunset.....after destroying your tents for the kicks. Then full of rage and anger you start hunting there camp to retrieve your cars and loot. Its almost never ending. Its cool when yu find your cars.....with some tasty extra items in them. Or you can be really mean and extract revenge.....keep eyes on there camp, wait for them to log in and end them....then fuck up the camp :) Sometimes you can negotiate a truce with other friendly/bandit clans, whatever your style. We had a camps off limits pact with one of the bandit groups and trade going on with the other 2 friendly groups. Once you have a camp you don't mind dying half as much so people are a lot more likely to give it a chance when someone says "friendly". That's some good Interaction endgame. I remember one time in the mod at the NWA, where a clan we had a truce with were already looting. We let them know with a lil "yo, we 300m to your SW"...Unknown to us one of the bandit clans had eyes on them aswell. When they opened fire we instantly backed up the other group, but as we did ANOTHER bandit clan was watching the whole thing. They moved around the outside wall and came up behind the other bandits, then over direct called a truce and formed one big group. The friendly group ran to us and it turned into a 10ish vs 10ish cross NWA firefight, that was some epic PVP end game, reading all the stories from diff angles on the server forums after was cool aswell :)

Sniping is dangerous wherever you do it tbh. Me and my buddies from the mod had a little saying " If you think its a good spot......other people will as well" Its always best to have a buddy in a different nest, you can pull fire for eachother when you need to move or just have him spot. Having him as far from you as poss is good so that when peeps take cover from your fire, he has LoS from the other angle. Id guess electro would still have a bit of traffic, maybe more the nostalgic mod players though....and most of them will check both hillsides to the north before entering. If its a bit quiet there head up to Berezino, looooads of nests around that place :)

Why is it so hard to install and run?
Karmaterror replied to craigotron's topic in New Player Discussion
You will see on the "install/update" tab, very top, something like "arma 2 beta patch" then a version (and wether its up to date or out of date). If its out of date just use the drop down box to pick newest version and hit install :) -
Why is it so hard to install and run?
Karmaterror replied to craigotron's topic in New Player Discussion
Hmmm are you trying to install dayz mod or standalone? EDIT - If its standalone the all you need to do is buy it on steam, then it automaticly downloads and gives you a desktop shortcut. If its the mod then google "dayz commander" 1, Install commander 2, Go to "install/update" tab 3, Make sure dayz and arma 2 beta are up to date 4, Browse for a server in commander 5, Enjoy :) -
100 players is great if you want deathmatching and gunfights all the time, but if you want to actually survive, build a camp, have warz with other clans, have diplomacy with some clans 100 is just too crowded. Even as little as 20 people can make the map feel very alive when each of the 20 is divided between 4 groups. Each group having some tents and vehicles means everyone is mobile and well equipped, so encounters happen more often. When everyone is mobile and entrenched a server with 40 people could start to feel crowded :)

Why Randomly Spawning All Over The Map Is A Bad Idea
Karmaterror replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I agree, there needs to be some sort of separation from safer campsites and spawn points, There would be no tactics in where to camp if people spawned anywhere. Also random spawning could leave you a 5-10 min run from NWA, closer if true full random. That takes all the accomplishment away from making it there in the first place. Was nothing like that feeling of finaly getting there in the mod after dying couple of times to zeds/hunger and/or bandits, then finally that tense moment as you cross the wall and go in, knowing if you get shot, you are right back on the coast again :) -
Harder yes, but for some just survival is fun. For me at the moment the PvP is dull, only when survival itself becomes a real challenge will PvP encounters actually mean something :)

This is something else dynamic lighting might help with, if the moons light can bounce properly off all the surfaces then night should look totally different. Hopefully by full release there wont even be a gamma slider. Maybe just 3 pre-set options. But but....yeah ok lets not go over old ground lol. Lets just say it is possible for it to be pitch black under specific IRL conditions. So I would like to see pitch nights in, maybe just say 25- 30% of nights. That way some nights you would have to swap server for a playable night. That would have a natural drawback of being separated from your camp, but could also give you a chance to find a part or something that's rare on your home server atm :) One good thing with the mod was that a lot of snipers didn't work with NVG, I think the only one that does atm is the dmr. Maybe they could do nvg as super rare, and a scope that works with them insanely rare lol. Global item economy could keep it in check maybe :)

Sway looks much better, do we have the hold breath system from A2 yet?? That was awesome, even if you were completely out of breath you could steady your aim for a very short period. It also adapted, holding breath when not out of breath lasted much longer. Then after so long you got big sway as your breath ran out, returning to condition appropriate sway after a couple of seconds :)

Don't think itl happen but id like to see just things like texture mods and maps. I like the way L4D handles there mods, they sort of have a similar problem with it being a competitive game. They could let the community re-texture stuff like cloths, food, and weapons. Or they can make a new map that the set rules apply to. That way if you want your m4a1 to look like an old m16 you could...or have an exact mod replica of the hero costume made by a modder. If they used the old arma 2 face system and applied it to the items that were moddable, then maybe we could have it so everyone sees your custom texture for "blue check shirt" or whatever, even if they don't have that mod themselves. However the way BiS do mods, be able to do pretty much anything with it I guess :)
