    Not like that atall.... If ofc they stick to what bohimia do it would be say a year after release a dlc with few new cars and cloths comes out. All the base game content is still in there at full texture quality. The textures everyone gets would be perfectly passable, its just you get slightly better ones if you pay. Did you play Arma atall, or dayz mod with just A2 and Arrowhead? If you didn't have PMC DLC every time you spawned....that was a low quality texture, same with hero skin If you didn't have BAF DLC....whenever you had camo clothing....that was a low quality texture A lot of people never even noticed, some of my group only realised when they saw screenshots on server forum and asked me lol

    Yeh that's kinda my point, we sorta have a river already....we just need the other side filling in. Skilasty Island....not sure if that would still be there, just at a wide point in the river. Would probs have to loose the ship wreck. But what about the sea makes the game more "interesting". To me its nothing but wasted space left over from A2 for boats and recreating costal assaults. For Dayz, where we don't have figates and aircraft carriers, its just unused space that could be much better used imo :)

    Point is that even if they do bring out a DLC you wont be forced to buy it. You would still get all the new...hats...for example. But its up to you wether you want to pay for the dlc and have the shiny textures, or you can just live with the downgraded ones and not part with your cash. Seems like one of the fairest ways of distributing DLC. For a map, if they spend a year or 2 after beta making a new map then they should charge for it. Chernarus took years to complete, so I wouldn't expect a new map every few weeks or anything like that. Whats wrong with paging a small fee later to extend the life of the game?

    The original Arma 2 Chrnarus took 5 years to build and as far as im aware is all accurately mapped from satellite images. I don't know if the des are following that idea or creating there own. But total that's like 7 years to create a map like this....its gonna be a legendary game world when its done.

    Forget all this north and west expansion....lets kill 2 birds with one stone 1, add river 2, add landmass If you haven't seen the "coast" in the ACR Arma 2 dlc, check out a you tube vid. IRL the coast is just a river and in that DLC we got the land on the other side. Really felt different, in a good way though, I could just imagine people fighting across it, camping on the other side ect ect. They wouldn't even have to expand the map boarder much and it gives mod vets a whole new landmass to explore, a river, and a place for them to go nuts with new towns :)

    My alternate endgame was base building in the mod, to be fair though that was only to fuel the PvP of our bandit group members. Id bring back a stack of mags from a CS, tent em and by the time id be back from a car parts loot run the lil barstewards would have taken em all lol I agree that PvP is the most challenging endgame, but the PvE aspect is always present aswell, its the blend that works so well. Most games split it...PvE (singleplayer) or go to a zone or game mode for dedicated PvP. Iv seen the zombies polish off a bandit that shot from a firestation tower, when we get that in SA it creates something unique. You don't know what you will be playing against....and cant force it either way :) The customer will come back for that feeling or uncertainty and lack of control over events that dayz provides :)

    And yet again...I log out in disappointment.

    1, Known bug, melee targeting is off atm 2, Never EVER rush a sniper like that.....concealment and flanking are what you need. Move off in a direction that will force him to shoot at a target moving sideways. Then use trees and bushes (even terrain) to mask your flanking move. Its 50/50 wether he looses you in the trees or keeps tracking you. Once you have him in sights and are sure he cant see ya, take your time, make the 1st shot count. And wait long gaps between shots....like shoot...5 count....shoot....5 count. Often the first shot only lets people know they being shot at, they have no idea where it came from. Its the rapid 2nd and 3rd that confirm location. 3, im guessing was some clohs/gear protection. The guys that killed you with one shot probs placed it perfectly for a..... 4, HEADSHOT!! 5, Just run.....they loose interest when they cant catch ya. Then you could always turn and shoot/stalk when they peel off ito a building or nearest treeline. If hes anywhere near you and you are armed maintain your advantage....distance. 6, That's what this game is all about. Things take time to accomplish, that trip could constituta a nights play, but you know you can always pick it up again another day. Try setting smaller goals till you have more hours in game, like tonight is just get to place x, then tomorrow you can loot and move on to place y. Its a marathon....not a race ;) PS, It is considered dirty tactics to gear on a low pop and then PvP on a high pop with that gear. Pretty much everyone does that when they start out. If you are gonna do it then don't log on a hospital roof.....that's my barrel....where I keep my fish lol. Find a nest on the town outskirts that gives you clear LoS on every building rooftop....preferably right under a thick pine tree....then swap ;)

    How many players per server?

    Last I heard they were aiming for 100. I think its still 40 atm, to me 50 would be fine once we are mobile and can entrench properly, 100 would just be a bloodbath lol :)

    BIS and dlc... Everyone gets it for free....if you wanna pay then you get better textures. Hope they just stick to that strategy. Unless its a map OFC, paying for a full map is ok in my book. But you can tell it wont be DLC driven by them enabling modding :)
  11. ....If it was how does it portray humanity? Are we wild animals that would turn on each other like this, forming packs, then hunting down others? I dunno, I think we come off a lot worse in dayz's social experiment, than we are for real. That being said, with the amount of fighting that goes on around the world, is dayz's portrayal closer to home than we would like to admit?

    I agree that cooperation would be more prevalent if it were for real, and fully realise that behaviour in a digital world is not at all a true depiction of how they would act in a real situation. However given that its a sandbox and players choose there path in a world without rules, it does sometimes seem like a small window to true human nature...untainted by all of the above mentioned cultural, historical, sociological (right word???lol) influences that we just accept and incorporate into our lives.

    That's true. no pvp servers in the mod were duller than watching paint dry. Some servers went to the other extreme and ran no zombies, so they could run more players lol I do like to play the avoidance game a bit and as soon as persistence is switched on il be trying to entrench on a server somewhere. So I will want to avoid pvp when im running loot, the brilliant thing is that at any time I could bump into your crew....armed to the teeth ready to gun me down from various angles. That's what makes looting in dayz fun for me, at any time I could be sucked into a pvp game when that night I really just wanted a solo run to finish my campsite off :)

    That's as it should be to me...played (and still do) a lot of the mod. There they don't stop until you stop shooting...or run to the trees and loose them in the pines. Once we can stealth past em like in the mod it will need more by quite a bit imo :)

    Does the Arma 2 mod not work anymore?

    You need the BEclient.dll from the BE website I think (maybe one called BEServer.dll aswell. It tells you on the site where to copy and replace. Then you should be good to go :) PS last I heard commander was getting an update so it would work again....is that still on the cards? PPS if you haven't played the mod in a while I think you will be impressed, its had a lot of updates from the team who took over and they are really good. Like tracking players through blood trails, nutrition system like SA, fishing....loooooads. My eyes popped out when I read there last changelog lol

Well disregarding 99% of the changelog and just picking up on the big thing....NAVMESH How long have people been moaning about zed clipping and not following doors ect....hell there was a thread a day about it. Now how many threads have you seen saying "gratz" or"thanks" or "well done".....people love to complain and blind themselves to actuall progress IMO
  18. That could be your problem right there, changes to the experimental build causing conflicts in-game. Defo try what Irish said and reinstall the stable files then try again :)

    This whole thing about weather the game is survival or PvP/Interaction orientated....I say why cant it be both? Sure theres a lot of tension and thrills in PvP, but theres also a lot of the same thrill and tension from trying to avoid encounters....stalk people....try to make contact without it degrading into a firefight. That can be just as good endgame as getting into an epic gunfight. With some serious alterations survival could be very difficult in this game, and I hope they go that route. Id rather die 5 times to zeds trying to get to a gun, that find one every life easily. But that relies on many factors. Upping zeds for one (they are the loot guardians aren't they), then altering the loot tables to make hunting much more viable than looting for food (zombies will help this aswell). Is dayz a pure PvP game....No Is dayz a pure survival game...No Dayz is whatever YOU want it to be, and exactly what YOU make of it :) PS....anyone ever think they slowed strafe speed to make leaning preferable. Ya know....like IRL....no one would strafe there entire body out from a wall to take a shot....they would lean out...new strafe speed promotes this....realism bitches! :D

    I like the fact we are getting restricted in movement more. Humans don't move like they are depicted in games like CS or one of my faves L4D. Now yes that movement is fun and responsive, but I came to arma 2 in search of something else. Something more realistic and based on tactics not just my best wasd combo followed by snap shooting my way to victory. I found it, the PvP was awesome, I couldn't "snap shot" even if I wanted to cos of mouse accel. Was just what I had been looking for, more realism and challenge. Then I found dayz....all those things...with zombies and some really great survival elements....it was like they were making a game just for me lol I want the SA to be what they told us....a "standalone Version of the mod". I want gameplay as far removed from CS, L4D, BF2 as poss, packed with all those great mill sim features....without them its just another arcady feeling game. I thought H1z1 or rust would fill that gap, a nice accessable jump in and play dayz style game. Leaving dayz to be the niche simulation equivalent. TL;DR - Get controls close to Arma 2, just with refinements. Mill sim elements should remain in SA
  21. I say they should just persist on server, Its just weird to have camps popping in and out of existence, and creates some problems. What if the spot you camp in is taken on that server, and your tents just pop into existence when you log in. Just as the clan who belongs to the other camp is unloading loot. They would just take your stuff, and use switch server to a low pop to safeguard there gear. If you choose to pitch a tent on a high pop, you should have to live with it. Not just swap server twice to move your tents to a low pop before quitting. That got me thinking, maybe if a server swap was considered as a bit of a trek, then it could incur a nutrition and thirst penalty, that kind of regulates it for the players. You would have to stock up a lil for the trip between servers, and loot fresh stuff when you got to the new one. Might stop hoppers dead in there tracks aswell lol. If that's what you meant.

    This thread was great, I hardly ever play a bandit and it was full of ideas, I sorta wanna play a bandit now to try some of it out. I kinda like the OP's idea because both people survive...for me a successful meet in dayz is one both players walk away from. Even when its just a tense couple of minuets in a town, when you both didn't shoot and just offer a quick trade say goodbye and go separate ways. Now im thinking maybe I could leave a paper trail of notes around a town that lead to one house. Then handcuff a friendly, take there gear, leave them with just the note that starts the trail. Maybe even watch through scope, see if they find it or give up :)

    Dynamic Loot Spawning

    Noticed this in the patch notes, was bit surprised not to see a discussion about it as its one of the bigger points (for me anyways) with this patch. Anyone got any ideas how it works yet...like is it the quadrant system or per building like the mod?
