Java Language is pretty easy. It uses object-based coding and has lots of tutorials, modules, and libraries for beginner programmers. Learning about objects and how to interact with them will be what you'll learn in this language. You can use tons of applications for it, and say your dad had a desktop PC and your mom had a Mac and you had Linux and you wrote it on your computer and wanted to give them the app? Java will run on many, many machines requiring no porting except installing the regular Java, so you can even take work projects from computer to computer very easily.

No, but taking a more proactive approach, you need to ask yourself some questions: -was the server a private server? -was the server password protected? -if yes, was the password easy to break? -if no, HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THAT'S HOW HE GOT IN! -did the server run on the default port? -do your friends like to mess with you? To ban him from the server, you need to use your admin controls, in which I have no idea how to do, so atleast you have something to feed Google now. Instead of banning him from the server, I would just change the password (if you set one) and change the server from running on the default port. Edit: A little background info on George Smith- he is the husband of Granny Smith, like the apples, and asked rocket to add canned granny smith apples to the game in memoir of his wife who passed away the day the mod came out. Rocket said no, George Smith is mad, and just kind of sits there in-game wondering what to do about it.

This should help: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/22703-day-z-urban-legends/ I recommend reading all the material, as it could be valuable to you. You should find something about your man there.

We need more ambient life that affects the player. Cows, sheep, chickens, and goats have all been infected with the same thing: stupidity. They: -do not run when you fire at them -do not run when they hear you fire -do not run when zombies are freaking out -do not try to attack the player when threatened -do not run when player is near them As well as some other things animals do but don't in ArmA. IMO*, instead of adding bloodsuckers like in Namalsk to all the maps, why not make more ambient life? Bears that will maul you, coyote that will hunt you, and just little cute kitties living in barns that you ruin their day when you walk in, but they might leave their food, giving you the catch instead? These things to me- dangers in the forest and elsewhere, and giving the player the OPPORTUNITY to be resourceful without having to be resourceful, seems like a good idea, doesn't it? Off-Topic Edit: I'd just like to point out also that there is a pile of hay in the barns on both sides and we might be able to do something about it that has a feature similar to what I'm getting at in another game so if you could please understand what I'm talking about and- *deep breath* support me on this.

I believe that story has been posted already, and could be your friend. In my opinion, its rocket having fun on any old day. It'd be my choice for the day too.

No Sense in Dying Alone *Revival* [Recruiting - Closed]
person915 replied to person915's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Why, why do people apply when recruiting is closed? Actually, this isn't denied from a full team. You did not fill the application out correctly, and quite frankly, you lack confidence, or atleast you seem that way. You should have came in here, and known you would be accepted. You should have said, "I'm an awesome person to have on anyone's team and no one should be able to turn me down reasonably!" Though I enjoy the traffic, if the previous statement does not fit the situation, with all due respect, you should have turned and left. I'll consider starting another branch of players as you don't want a group, especially a new group, to get too full, but don't count on it, because seeing as I still need to get everyone together starting another group makes everything more difficult to manage, so starting one before I know what I'm doing is begging for collapse. -
Nice video. What happened after with the chopper? Also, if you want higher res recordings, try running in windowed mode to a certain display, probably like 720x1080 or ect, and then upload it accordingly

When was the first time YOU killed someone in DayZ?
person915 replied to tacticalbanana's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
About you playing a bandit on Tavania. I hate bandit skins, as in having them. You know, unless it's on Utes because that's really what it's there for. Anyway, I spawned in first time, first second, first life of Tavania as a bandit skin, and could not suicide to get rid of it. As a result, I got shot at many, many times, in which I killed THE one, or atleast one (depending if I actually HAD a weapon) of the people shooting at me, actually earning me the bandit. Also, a bit later, my friend and I went to the giant town with the morgue, and we sat there for literally 20 minutes while I repeatedly bloodbaged, morphined, and bandaged my friend, to no avail, still having the wretched bandit skin I was never supposed to have in the first place. And pfft, trying to get people to believe you even though it is a known bug is pretty pointless. I get so much crap for that, it limits my doors to what I can do and experience, and also, having a bandit skin will earn you it faster than anything else. Once you have it, you can either man up and keep it or die from people that see you. Example: Unarmed, asked for a ride to Boye from two guys with cars, when we met on the road by a mountain. Their response "NO", then "WAIT" in which they came back, and shot me, unarmed, standing in the middle of the road, me deciding to just take it as there really was no point in trying to survive. Those guys were douches (talked to them later, a lot, and they were), and now we move on to a normal guy. I spawn, and I find an M9SD randomly. I take it, and have 1 mag. I go further and see a TON of zombies between a hill and military bunkers, literally about 75 in that small area. I see a car. I check around for players, thinking with this much zombies, anyone inside those bunkers would be having a helluva time or shooting by now, so I go over to the car. No loot, and it's fine, except for the wheel is out. Now I see a survivor coming from the bunkers, and he talks to me. Not being able to holster a pistol, this was going to be interesting. He had a double barrel. We just stood in the open, and I pointed my gun away from him, trying to type in direct as he was speaking. He decided to hip fire me with the double barrel. Agro'ing zombies, I pull out my pistol and shoot him 4 times in the chest and once in the head, dropping the SoB. I bandage and take his double barrel. I ask him why he shot. "A bandit with an M9SD and a car looks like their doing good, and I only had a double barrel, and was getting scared." First off, I found the M9 randomly, and only had 1 mag, now wasted from the encounter with him (I shot him while he was falling out of reflex). The car was not mine, and was broken. My bandit skin was not supposed to be there. Oh right, and I had no food or water while I was almost at orange, along with no medical supplies and tools other than my flashlight. Doing great. You see how this just makes more and more bad things happen? -

You didn't fill out the app right. Almost. So close. Still, the thread is closed. You can fix your app, and by the offchance I need some spaces I will contact you if your app looks good by then, or just leave it since I don't think I'll be needing spaces here. -

You filled out the app correctly upon me glancing at it for a few seconds, but unfortunately the thread is closed. If I need more spaces I will contact you via reply on this thread and a PM, but I'm not expecting you to be totally ready and willing if that should happen, as you are technically denied at this point. Thanks for playing. -
So, basicallly, I ran around today because I saw another thread on the forum for this, clicked it, and it had a link, said "there has already been another thread for this" and I was like, "oh no, if this isn't my thread, someone already got to it and mine should be locked too!". So I went to that thread, and followed ANOTHER link to my own thread. What a morning. Anyway, thanks for the info, I kind of understand DayZ+ now. I might go play on it, since how the game works it's less likely for people to create servers that drown you with SUVs and Mountain Dew on startup. Unfortunately, I feel like I'll see ladders. Everywhere. EVERYWHERE. But due to this question being raised, and not easily answered (except by the forum team), I feel like there should be an easy-to-find info page in big neon lettering somewhere, or atleast a summary in the thread it has ect ect. So then there are not more of these threads popping up, wondering.

Its your story. Take responsibility for it.
person915 replied to Waffenator's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think through many threads and discussions the community has decided what it means to have "This is your story." involved in the features. Basically, can we have different pants, shirts, hats, gloves, boots, ect and still say, "This is your story."? Yes, yes we can. It does not make it like Far Cry, while it is a great franchise, you play as a character, though in an open world environment, or like Zelda, but completing quests in a main storyline. Also, it does not become like Fallout or Elder Scrolls, playing as a character you create but through scripted quests and such. As for the explanation of German superweapons and ect.... Honestly, you wake up one a beach with painkillers, a bandage, and a backpack. Chances are, you have no idea what happened to you last night. Or many nights, for that matter. This apocalypse doesn't need a reason and doesn't need justification. All we know is what's now, and that's what keeps us engaged. BUT Would I like to see hidden documents and newspapers that if you searched for it, you could learn? Yes. The only problem is, people go posting and now everyone knows. In my opinion the solution is to create multiple instances where multiple factors contributed to this apocalypse so no one can really distinguish what fired first and all that guff. In that way, you have created your character's story. To learn the truth. Then of course, I'd love to have things in the game no one knows anything about. Put berries and seemingly useless items and you can (with a few accidents and experiments) develop a way to seal doors with a jel-like substance. Now I do not actually think sealing doors with jelly is cool, but some equivalent, as the effect is not the point. It is creating or having the possibility to create but in a real open form, as you take it on, pursue, and complete it yourself, and the effects ripple. For instance, say you got killed without writing down the recipe and someone found these strange potions? Who even knows what they do? How did they get them? Quest. As for some of your ideas like ammo and inventory, and WWII... I always found that games I play did not meet the standards I wanted them to. So, I did what any sensible person would do. I stopped complaining on the forums (I do not believe you are complaining at all, though) and I started to learn Java. Basically, I want to take my favorite games or game styles, and put them into my own vision, but of course make them so it isn't a travesty of a game, i.e. WarZ to DayZ. Sure, I have some ideas myself, when someone on Steam doesn't greenlight a game called The Intruder which was one of my most prominent and proud thoughts that would help me with AI programming, and would call it the same thing minus "The", but hey, what are you going to do? Walt Disney was right about those "Thought Bots" or whoever actually came up with the idea that something was stealing their thoughts. Seriously, no. It was just very scary and strange coincidence that ended in a disappointed loss for me when no battle took place. I like hardcore games. I like games that you can mold your own story, except when there needs to be a story told. I like games that give you a challenge, and show you something new, and show that "made with love" touch. So I had an idea for something that hasn't much been done yet, and that was zombie survival in an time era c. Black Plague, or WWI ect. I don't think anyone had done that yet or well, and I think I have the mindset to make it work. Now I just need the skill. Sir, please stop stealing my thoughts and posting them on the forums. Just kidding, really just keep DayZ the way it is, because that's what works. You put too many game changers in and it doesn't work, like some of the latest Final Fantasy games. So add dogs and all that, but don't add super-robatic mechs that you can find in Cherno, if you get the analogy. Of course, your idea might just work if the game "isn't DayZ" which is what I'm aiming for. Also, about your ammo idea, that sounds good (though I was a bit confused, I'd need a table or visuals to totally understand); from what I gather you want it like FarCry where you need holsters and pouches to hold everything, but it also slows you down, which to me is excellent and a good idea, since it isn't changing the game as far as implementing Transformers because no one saw that coming. More so, I see now editing, that you want it to be like using ammo boxes and the like to put in inventory, which I think if combined with storage on person factors could be a really cool feature. DayZ likes inventory to be clunky and difficult. This is more of expanding on and idea than making a new one altogether. And so I'll probably edit this later once I see some embarassing grammar mistake, syntax error, new idea, or explaining and old one so it actually makes sense. Basically, all content in this post and resulting is subject to change. -
I had a friend that survived for 3 months, when he died by a scripter when he was extracting me out of NW airfield. We both died, as well as anyone else who entered NW Airfield. We could tell it was a scripter because of the way our bones broke and how we both died with no shots in us or anything, in the pitch darkness wielding no light sources except my friend who had on NVGs. His name was snowcrash. I myself get too bored of being on the same life and suicide usually.

Killed once for defense, killed again because I wondered about it. Played Utes, and it satisfied my bloodlust. Now I kill whoever tries to kill me. And I do it well.

The Infamous "No Entry 'bin/config.bin/CFgInGameUI/MPTable.shadow'"
person915 posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Recently, I got the No Entry 'bin/config.bin/CFgInGameUI/MPTable.shadow' error when I try to start Arrowhead through Steam. Now, searching through previous threads with this same problem, they did not help me, but I did learn a few things that I can help qualify and get this thing running faster. -It has nothing to do with Steam. Someone had the disk version and still got this error. -It is not my firewall. No settings on my firewall changed prior or after this happened. -Windows is not blocking the program. After setting it to unblock 5 times, it stopped asking. Though, where can I go to find this? I actually need to make sure. That aside, I'll explain what happened before this happened. I was on the ArmA mission editor, and I was making a battle, and I wanted to have cool sounds, so I went to the main menu, and while I was in vanilla switched JSRS mod on with the "enable" button; JSRS is a sound mod for ArmA 2. I then had to restart the game and got the error. Now, I've had this problem before, and doing what I did then does not fix it now. Verifying the Integrity of Game Cache in Steam does not work, even though it has reacquired multiple files, and reinstalling battleye for both games did not work either. Then, I tried reinstalling, then doing the cache and BE again. Nope. I installed a beta patch, because, why not? First, I would have to successfully start the game so I used Six Updater with no mods on the preset, and got through fine after it said once I had a bad serial key on startup. Now, I installed the beta patch, and that went fine after that. The game itself still didn't work, though. So I went on Six Updater and reinstalled JSRS, and figured out it needed CBAs also. I can run the game through Six Updater vanilla and not, but when Steam tries to run it, no one is happy, even when running Steam as an admin. I'd like to point out that when I reinstalled I deleted all the mod folders in both my program files and documents, so when I reinstalled it, the game was completely vanilla with no possibility of mods on it. -
When was the first time YOU killed someone in DayZ?
person915 replied to tacticalbanana's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I actually made a thread about my first kill, and I'll tell it in short but here's the link: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/109168-a-cruel-mistress/ I was in Elektro, which in DayZ terms is like saying "One time at band camp..." and I had just finished looting the office/school. Looking both ways whilst holding shift and crossing the street, I cross my fingers and hope that no zombies will see me as I go into the pub. I heard a growl, and ran up inside. Getting on the stairs, I aim my gun down at the door, waiting for my train to come into the station. I see a zombie run past the door. This was not good. Anylitics have always been my friend. Here, I knew it was not my zombie I agro'd because it would not have behaved that way. Also, I did my best not to attract attention to myself, so a zombie seeing me would have been quite curious. Sure enough, a man with an AK comes bursting through the door. Checking the room to his right, he merely glanced as he went up the stairs, zombies at his heels. If not for this pressure, I might well have not survived that encounter. In less than a second, the man was at my face. In less than another, I had fired half my clip into his body, and watched him fall over in a bloody hump. Somehow, he had managed to fire at me as well, in fact, WHILE I was putting bullets into him. The zombies now climbed the stairs, and I crawled into the hallway with broken legs, hoping they would just turn and leave. My flashing red blood was not just for show. They did, and I made my way down the stairs. I took the man's AK, his M1911, some of his tools, and a morphine injector. Back on my feet, I continued on, somewhat saddened at the fact a man trying to kill me had to have a survivor skin, but proud that I had held my ground and did what I had to do to survive. -
You have no idea how scary it was to get this pic. ----- I also have a legend as well. Recently in Namalsk, I found something that struck me as unusual. So, now we know why there are bloodsuckers and zombies and such... That is, if you've played Half-Life! Now, I just need to figure out where BM's base is in Namalsk...

Shooting Players and Him/Her Dying From Blood Loss?
person915 posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If I shoot a player and they die from blood loss a minute later, or he/she get mauled by zombies afterward, does the game count it as a kill by me and I lose humanity if it was a survivor/hero? Was wondering because I got into a situation, had to shoot a man and let the elements finish him off, not sure if zombies reached him, I broke his legs and he pressed respawn, or if he bled out, but wondering if I'm closer to bandit now.. -
Shooting Players and Him/Her Dying From Blood Loss?
person915 replied to person915's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
At this point, the holiday and the fact I couldn't play made my timing absolutely worse, so I don't really care who I play with as basically everyone else is gone from lack of engagement If you don't mind playing Tavania occasionally and Namalsk quite a bit, with of course Chernarus thrown in the mix, your welcome to come. My Steam is psn_cjd_22 and I'm giving it to you because I picked up one random guy from a server and I play with him a lot now too, so to say that denying you who has been following me around quite often is fair is a ludicrous statement. Edit: That story is pretty funny. If I wasn't drowsy I would have enjoyed it more, though. You're lucky the bandit just looked at you. Once, I met one in Cherno and wasted no time in hoofing it past him and almost getting obliterated from M16 shots. If I wasn't observant and hadn't been listening to my surroundings, he would have got me easily. Then running across a field while he was shooting... fun. It actually was. Anyway, see you there. -
Shooting Players and Him/Her Dying From Blood Loss?
person915 replied to person915's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd like a good laugh. -
Right now, all I see when I check my server browser is: "200+ vehicles" "max vehicles" "1400+ vehicles" "500 vehicles, 5 helis" or "custom loadout" "special starting gear". Have we forgotten what DayZ is about? What happened to that pride of finding a vehicle that you know is unique, repairing it, and saying "Well that's what I did right there. And no one else can say that."? What happened to "It took me 15 hours to get this AS50, but it's so worth it."? Now, there are just people mucking around making the server base pretty much as if you were playing regular ArmA 2, stepped into the airfield base, got anything you wanted, and went and captured towns. But with zombies there. I'm disappointed with the server base right now. It isn't about vehicles, and it isn't about gear. It's about surviving and forging your own existence into the landscape. Gear and vehicles included. When you take that away it just isn't DayZ anymore.

No, I don't want vehicles and all that removed. Basically, all I want now is a server that runs straight vanilla. No EXTRA vehicles, maybe less, no custom starting gear, and first-person only is great. That's really all I want. Now, outside of that, I like to play the game a certain way because I have fun like that. As an example, my friend and I met up along the east coast of Chernarus and we took up arms with an enfield and double-barrel. We needed food, and we needed blood. She was passing out, so I had to rush and find a survival knife and an animal, and not be seen because I would be hit and possibly die. Then after that, we still had something to do. We needed some ammo. We needed more food, more water, better gear. And it drove us. That was fun because I was constantly engaged, and it didn't feel like losing. It felt like surviving. Making with what I had and trying to sustain myself. It was great. If I could, I would totally revamp DayZ, but that isn't the point. Still, I enjoy the servers that run like Public hives but are private hives and ect, so that really doesn't matter what I would change about it. That's my vision of this game. What I do. Touch and go, done with one challenge but created 3 more. Always running.
-
Players "want" it because they haven't got used to the idea that it becomes boring when they give you all the gear. They are too used to dying. Once they mill around for a few hours, they'll go back. But when they do, they don't have any servers to go to. Also, there are a lot of people who, like me, can't find a private hive that doesn't do this but doesn't want to join a public hive unless they have to. Playing on maps other than Chernarus, servers are pretty much all private hives. Yes, the community wants it, but we need more servers that aren't like this because there is a section of the community who actually wants to play the game, seen? Right now, that's pretty impossible. The majority of the servers in question are all US servers too, and while most of the servers are probably in US, I can usually find DE and UK servers that actually run vanilla or have third person turned off. But there's a problem, because I can't expect a good connection from them. I'm saying that the quality of this has gone down. Back in the old DayZ, you started with a bandage, painkillers, and a coyote backpack. Now people get enfields on startup. It's sickening to me how people can just take rewards and not care a bit about not getting them. So instead of insulting me like a child, why don't you listen to what I have to say and understand that: -I do not care if these servers exist, but right now they are waaaay too big in majority -I do not care if people play like this, as long as I can play my way too, but I can't, because no or few good servers. Sure, I don't agree with it, but I can't force it upon them. -We need more servers that appeals to the other side of the community. Seriously, it could be like 13 or less servers out of near 2,500 Chernarus servers, and it'd cover it. But practically all those are all about massive amounts of vehicles and starting gear. How is this too much to ask? All I want to do is play, and play my way, and my way of playing is reasonable. I'm not entitled to servers sprouting up at my word of complaint, but I think I got quite a few beans from this so you can see atleast 1 server full wants this to happen. Again, once more restated, I do believe these servers are wrong, but that's my belief. It doesn't matter. What does matter is I need a server to play on. I don't care how many of these custom loadout and vehicle servers there are so long as I have a server I like to play on too. And right now I don't. Unless you go public. But then I get hacked, ghosted, lootfarmed.... ect. Also, using logic here: If just about every server has these things, and just about every player playing DayZ plays DayZ, every player has to join a server. Since there are lack of any servers that don't offer normality, they join the other ones, because they have no choice. Again, public hives, but public hives are just stressful.
-
This is a server that feels the need to give out custom gear because either the owner can't handle DayZ in its naked form or wants to have server traffic and offers gear as bait. So, no, you don't always spawn with one (unless the new update has that happen, because as of now DayZ commander has 0.72 as latest). Personally, I believe these servers are idiotic and they're taking over the server base. Finding any server that doesn't give you everything at the start is getting challenging, and public hive servers usually only pretain to Chernarus, which is making all this rather annoying. What does this have to do with urban legends? Well, I heard that there was a server that was actually challenging, told to me by a friend of a friend of a friend's nephew in a gas station on Thanksgiving day. By lore, the address has been lost and no one knows where it is, the server not showing up in DayZ commander, or Six Launcher. But this is just a legend. Almost all private hives now are crap. Possibility of a good one existing is extremely low. Anyone have Nathan Drake's number? I could use his help here.

This next tale comes from Chernarus. I consider it a version of a familiar tale you might recognize. I had to go to Three Valleys. I had a friend waiting there, and I spent no time waiting, straight hoofing it down the coastal highway towards her location, not a clue where Three Valleys was. About 30km from Berezino, I'm walking, and all of a sudden, flames rip out of no where, engulfing the background into a hellish theme, gripping the sky and burning the oxygen away. I looked away from it, and it went away. Looking back, it erupted again. Only one way to go, I charged directly into the blaze. And it moved for me. As if showing me a path. So I walked. I ran. And eventually. Out of nowhere. I see. A box. Lying on the ground. I look past it, and the flame disperses. I look back, and it again returns. The flames centered toward this box. A medical box, in the middle of a field. I took a look inside. Contents: temptation. Temptation sent to lead me astray on my path in DayZ. I struggled, seeing everything I would need right in the box. And I found it. Pretty much it's loot. I closed the box. Then remembered. NVGs. She wanted NVGs. Grabbing a pair for us, I set out, my newly acquired night eyes adapting keenly. Little did I know all hell had broken loose. 15km away, a chopper blew up in the air, no warning, nothing around it. No survivors. More explosions followed as the ground started shaking. Cries of the undead could be heard from far and wide, as well as the screams of men and women. 4 more successive explosions. All cars. All people. Dead. In the side chat. And I watched it with my NVGs. The trees were next, as they were ripped from the ground by the root, and strewn across the ground in a careless bouquet. As for me, I saw the flames. They were closing in. Fast. I counted down the seconds but it beat me to the punch. The burning sent me reeling. The flame purged me. And with the purge, brought truth. The realization that I had opened Pandora's Box, disguised. My character burned, then died. When I went to respawn, the server was down. It has been down ever since.
