Players "want" it because they haven't got used to the idea that it becomes boring when they give you all the gear. They are too used to dying. Once they mill around for a few hours, they'll go back. But when they do, they don't have any servers to go to. Also, there are a lot of people who, like me, can't find a private hive that doesn't do this but doesn't want to join a public hive unless they have to. Playing on maps other than Chernarus, servers are pretty much all private hives. Yes, the community wants it, but we need more servers that aren't like this because there is a section of the community who actually wants to play the game, seen? Right now, that's pretty impossible. The majority of the servers in question are all US servers too, and while most of the servers are probably in US, I can usually find DE and UK servers that actually run vanilla or have third person turned off. But there's a problem, because I can't expect a good connection from them. I'm saying that the quality of this has gone down. Back in the old DayZ, you started with a bandage, painkillers, and a coyote backpack. Now people get enfields on startup. It's sickening to me how people can just take rewards and not care a bit about not getting them. So instead of insulting me like a child, why don't you listen to what I have to say and understand that: -I do not care if these servers exist, but right now they are waaaay too big in majority -I do not care if people play like this, as long as I can play my way too, but I can't, because no or few good servers. Sure, I don't agree with it, but I can't force it upon them. -We need more servers that appeals to the other side of the community. Seriously, it could be like 13 or less servers out of near 2,500 Chernarus servers, and it'd cover it. But practically all those are all about massive amounts of vehicles and starting gear. How is this too much to ask? All I want to do is play, and play my way, and my way of playing is reasonable. I'm not entitled to servers sprouting up at my word of complaint, but I think I got quite a few beans from this so you can see atleast 1 server full wants this to happen. Again, once more restated, I do believe these servers are wrong, but that's my belief. It doesn't matter. What does matter is I need a server to play on. I don't care how many of these custom loadout and vehicle servers there are so long as I have a server I like to play on too. And right now I don't. Unless you go public. But then I get hacked, ghosted, lootfarmed.... ect. Also, using logic here: If just about every server has these things, and just about every player playing DayZ plays DayZ, every player has to join a server. Since there are lack of any servers that don't offer normality, they join the other ones, because they have no choice. Again, public hives, but public hives are just stressful.

This is a server that feels the need to give out custom gear because either the owner can't handle DayZ in its naked form or wants to have server traffic and offers gear as bait. So, no, you don't always spawn with one (unless the new update has that happen, because as of now DayZ commander has 0.72 as latest). Personally, I believe these servers are idiotic and they're taking over the server base. Finding any server that doesn't give you everything at the start is getting challenging, and public hive servers usually only pretain to Chernarus, which is making all this rather annoying. What does this have to do with urban legends? Well, I heard that there was a server that was actually challenging, told to me by a friend of a friend of a friend's nephew in a gas station on Thanksgiving day. By lore, the address has been lost and no one knows where it is, the server not showing up in DayZ commander, or Six Launcher. But this is just a legend. Almost all private hives now are crap. Possibility of a good one existing is extremely low. Anyone have Nathan Drake's number? I could use his help here.

This next tale comes from Chernarus. I consider it a version of a familiar tale you might recognize. I had to go to Three Valleys. I had a friend waiting there, and I spent no time waiting, straight hoofing it down the coastal highway towards her location, not a clue where Three Valleys was. About 30km from Berezino, I'm walking, and all of a sudden, flames rip out of no where, engulfing the background into a hellish theme, gripping the sky and burning the oxygen away. I looked away from it, and it went away. Looking back, it erupted again. Only one way to go, I charged directly into the blaze. And it moved for me. As if showing me a path. So I walked. I ran. And eventually. Out of nowhere. I see. A box. Lying on the ground. I look past it, and the flame disperses. I look back, and it again returns. The flames centered toward this box. A medical box, in the middle of a field. I took a look inside. Contents: temptation. Temptation sent to lead me astray on my path in DayZ. I struggled, seeing everything I would need right in the box. And I found it. Pretty much it's loot. I closed the box. Then remembered. NVGs. She wanted NVGs. Grabbing a pair for us, I set out, my newly acquired night eyes adapting keenly. Little did I know all hell had broken loose. 15km away, a chopper blew up in the air, no warning, nothing around it. No survivors. More explosions followed as the ground started shaking. Cries of the undead could be heard from far and wide, as well as the screams of men and women. 4 more successive explosions. All cars. All people. Dead. In the side chat. And I watched it with my NVGs. The trees were next, as they were ripped from the ground by the root, and strewn across the ground in a careless bouquet. As for me, I saw the flames. They were closing in. Fast. I counted down the seconds but it beat me to the punch. The burning sent me reeling. The flame purged me. And with the purge, brought truth. The realization that I had opened Pandora's Box, disguised. My character burned, then died. When I went to respawn, the server was down. It has been down ever since.

I would play Utes, but lately battleye has been kicking me for trying to change skins when I log in, because I earned a bandit skin. Utes is a great map when you want heart-pumping action in a very short time period, so running around this holiday season, (this sounds like a commercial, just go with it) playing and hour or two of Utes was pretty fun. I'm always a nice guy on other maps, but when I'm on Utes I grab an Enfield and start training day. It's pretty good for that, and considering just about every training mission is on Utes, too, it's pretty fitting.

No Sense in Dying Alone *Revival* [Recruiting - Closed]

I don't even know what to make of this. The intelligence of this post is so low that I don't understand it pretty much at all. What tickles me is that you came back to this thread after what, 5 weeks? It took you THAT long to come up with this as a response? I find that sad. Normally, I wouldn't even reply to this, seeing how this thread is dead and colder than Namalsk snow, but I hold a standard to my threads, and I would not let this go unaddressed. Stupidity must be studied and understood. So tell me, what did you gain from this? It was fun for me to bash your face in with words you probably don't know the meaning of. What else did you do but lash out like an immature kid? Once again, you have proved unworthy of acceptance into this group. I am so glad I didn't accept you. I can sleep well tonight. -
DayZ is a mod, and no doubt when the SA comes out, what will there be? Mods for DayZ! So what will the mods be? Let's see... The class system and skill trees. That will probably be a big one. More gore. People have been asking for this. More weapons. More zombies. So what do you guys think? What other mods do you think people will make for the SA? How do you think it will affect the game? I think it will give player minorities satisfaction. Will modding even be possible due to distribution of server software and liscenses to run, as well as having just one minor mod difference in a whole server? Discussion.

That is, unless they make a DayZ version that isn't Hive oriented. They'd basically have to make it work like wasteland. Maybe rocket will let developers put their mods up for compatibility on a site, like I think Minecraft should do with their XBLA version.

Have you ever wanted to join veteran servers that are first person only, veteran, or ect but were disappointed by the lack of players? This thread strives to change that. Here, we will post server addresses of some good, hardcore private hives for all the maps, warranted there is one. That way, when we play, we will all play on those servers and have company! It's not like we're starting a group to find and play with eachother, we are playing on the same servers but separately. When I can, I'll be looking up some addresses and posting them here in a spoiler. In the meantime, if you'd like to participate, let us get an idea of how many players we are dealing with. Post your: -ArmA name -Timezone in GMT and play schedule -Maps you play and how often If you would like to suggest a server to add to the list, please post in the suggestion: -complete server address -server IP -features (no first person, ect) -review of the server based on your experience, mostly in active admins, hack protection, gameplay, lag, restart times, ect -keep in mind a review of how challenging the server was will go farther than recording your fortunes -you will need someone registered on the thread to go in the server and do a follow up, supporting your claims Keep in mind these are hardcore servers, so they must have/be/not have the following: -be veteran difficulty -have crosshairs, nameplates, and tracers turned off atleast, preferably first person only and no death messages -do not feature give aways, an excessive amount of vehicles, or starting gear that gives any more than an extra bandage or so -preferably no side chat, but is acceptable -whitelisted servers must be stated as so by the suggestor and posted in a separate section by me Let's get busy! You know.. in the gaming sense....

Calling All Hardcore Players!!
person915 replied to person915's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Sorry, thought I was in that section. Navigating on my mobile.. I'll do better next time -
have you noticed the absence of me, the OP's argument about your playstyle? Why should I change the title when 'I' amd not arguing to you 'yet'? I think the title is pretty articulate. I'm disappointed.. Not in you, no, but the servers. You can go one having fun or "surviving" all you want, I just want some good servers that don't try to advertise me with so many vehicles or free giveaways like I'm some kind if noob. I don't care how you play. I'd just like somewhere that lets me play how I want too.
-
Wow, this thread has really taken off. Anyway, i'll address some of your sayings w/o quotes because my phone doesn't like it and I'm riding passenger on the interstate. The main thing is that I love private hives. Not only does it prevent people who get AS50s on an empty server from joining in, but it prevents ghosting as well. Also, PHs are usually more secure, faster, and more community oriented. I spent an hour joining over 30+ servers and they all had vehicles or custom loadouts that just made it stupid. For my accomplishment in DayZ, all I want is a clean, organized camp with 1 vehicle and a collection of CZs, Winchesters, Enfields and double barrels. Then I go hunt bandits and be a medic. I haven't had a hacker pop up in a long time. A month or two, actually. Even so, once I die, my camp, vehicles, and gear are left to the buzzards. I don't retrieve them under any circumstance, unless its NVGs because there's just no finding those. So hackers destroying my work isn't a big concern. I like how I operate and never have a proem with doing it because starting over is fun. I often kill myself because I don't like the way I got my gear or the game played out, just because. I don't want everyone to play like this, but keep respectable distance. I mean, I spent 2 days up and down the coast and inside Chernarus trying to find a vehicle, and did not even find a bike. Now you go in and see a working GAZ on a red carpet? Work for it. This game is about reward and consequence, as well as what I said in the OP. So I'll be starting a thread soon about playing on some good private hives for some maps that I know are good, and I'll link it here when it's up. It'll be like a community thread, so we can all agree to play on these certain servers so they aren't so empty. We won't play together, just on the same servers, unless you want to. This way all the pro-hardcore players can have a fun little community to battle with. If anyone starts this thread I'm talking about I will stalk you ingame so hard you will never want to play again. This is my thread idea and please respect that I can't get it up yet but i will when I can. See you all soon, on the real proving grounds.

I'm not joking. My story is real. And I'd really love an explanation. Anyone who has experienced the same thing, PM me. If you'd like to have that experience, PM me.
-
What comes next I can't quite explain. It has puzzled me. What I can assure you of though, is that it is 100% true. Contradictory to my other legends, this one actually happened, and actually left me scared, shivering. It starts on any old day, of any old week, playing DayZ Namalsk. Happy to be back on just about the only Namalsk server that is first person only and gives me good connection, I set out, expecting to find the newly aquired server traffic to be quite interesting. By and by, towns and deerstands, nothing really is any different. And then I see it. Over by Nemsk, a place with 2 deer stands and sandbags that looks like a military fortification. It wasn't player-built. I was not prepared for what came next. Going up to the first deerstand, I climb it, finding nothing. I go next to the second one, prone, scared that the clump of zombies growling and shaking their fists may at any time disperse and leave me on the run. I climb the ladder, and find nothing. Disappointed, I dismount, heading to the middle of the small encampment. A whitish-yellow flash dominated my screen. "What was that? Lighting" I looked at the sky. Ominus clouds were rolling in, but no rain or lightning. Weird. "Heat lightning?" In NAMALSK? Pfft. *Flash* *Flash* *Flash* Each one progressively darkened my screen. Finally, the sky turned yellow and the ground went black. Though every object was pitch black, I could see silhouettes of the clumped zombies now climbing the ladder of the deerstand. I ran out before they could catch me. But too late. *Flash* The last flash sent me reeling to the ground, not unconscious but unable to move. I started spinning, imagining my head looking around wildly as I descended into hell. The screen slowly revoked it's sepia tones, and returned to normal. I could hear zombies screaming, and wondered what could be happening. When I finally got up, I noticed two things. One, the two zombies eating me while I was down were now dead, and I had no ammo in either of my weapons that could have been used to kill them. Second, my blood was now red, turned from yellow-green. And another thing, the last zombie was on my tail. I ran. Losing him in some trees, I follow close to the road until I see another deerstand atop a mountain near a radiotower. I run towards it, scared as hell. I got near the top of the mountain, and I heard the flash again, but it wasn't on my screen this time. But it was close, and it was following me. I've been running ever since. And I assure you, that though it has yet to be explained, this story is true. Take it as you will, as a warning, or just a story, but know it. Remember it. And if you find yourself in the same place, rest assured you know what is coming next.

I've figured out that combat experience in DayZ can't be matched up to spending a few hours with the Enfield on some domination server. So, me, having less than 6 hours to play DayZ A WEEK, remembered what my friend once told me about Utes. "Oh, it's a small island with one airfield and it ends up being a deathmatch there." Hm... some good, fun, bloodlusting action for one or two hours? Sign me up! So I installed it and it didn't take long for me to get my first kill on there. Let me count them up now... 1...2...3...4...5...6... just about that, in less than two days in less than 3 hours. Considering, I find Utes a considerably challenging experience. Because I can see them- someone can see me. You have to be extremely careful. In this place I am the hunter. I find my prey and I track them, and I learn. I can become skilled in combat. And when I get to Chernarus, I'll continue being my doctor self, all with the knowledge and experience I have learned in Utes. One by the AC, one by the rock... another on the field and another sent in shock. A few rounds to the head and shoot another one dead- still one left now but a pull and he's down and out.

In the land of ice and snow, the one thing that is more or just as valuable as food and warmth is friends. The NSDA- Namalsk Survivors' Destitute Alliance Destitute? Yes, destitute. This group is for those lacking. Lacking food, water, warmth, and clothes. We stay together, live together, and die together. We search for what we do not have. And we find it. There is No Sense in Dying Alone. NOTE!: We play on a server with no crosshairs, deathmessages, tracers, or third person. Please be aware of this! What You're Getting Into Requirements- Apply Here -
No Sense in Dying Alone - Namalsk (NSDA) [Closed Temp.]
person915 replied to person915's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
DENIED! This should be obvious. Not only do you have to include "Stay Frosty" in your application, but the thread title says "Closed Temp." Admittedly, it should say "Closed Perm." Still.... FFS. -
I want to set up a TeamSpeak server. The server is fully-functional, except no one can join but me. I believe this is because the server isn't ported on my router. BUT... porting is a dangerous and delicate thing, as it can let hackers into your system fairly easily. Now I'm fine with the default 3 channels and like 32 people on your TS; it doesn't need to be any bigger than that for what I want to use it for. But I can't rent a server. That is not an option. So what is port forwarding, what are the dangers, what are the benefits, what am I doing when I port forward, and what are your sources? (I can figure out HOW to port forward, just need to know what I'm getting into, what to do and what not to do, and how to make it as secure as possible)

Is there going to be an Xbox version of the standalone?
person915 replied to A.Williams's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Once, I bought fallout 3 for PC. Expecting the game to look worse than NV on my PS3, I was prepared for the worst. Going in-game, I soon discover that medium graphics settings look better than any game I've seen out on console. Turning it up to high, i feel a stir in my pants. No, but seriously... The game will look like crap or near to it, theyll have to downgrade the map or the changes in it, redo everything to port it over, remap the buttons and make strange new combinations for the dwindling number for them- basically, it becomes minecraft pocket edition. -

DENIED! Did you not see that recruiting is closed? Atleast for now it is. You didn't even fill out the application correctly. Tsk tsk.... -
Long story short, I need NVGs. It isn't your job to ask why, just when and how. So what do you want for them? A DMR? M4A3 CCO SD? A combo of something? I'll get whatever we've discussed upon and have it ready upon transaction. We will meet in a secure location and the deal will go down, quick and simple. The location and time will be negotiated as I understand you people as well as I don't have all the time in the world for these things. So, post your request for payment for the NVGs, and we'll do the rest in private messages, or Gmail using IM. My email is [email protected]
