I've been all around the east coast of the US. I've lived in PA, NC, and FL all throughout my ongoing childhood. I have 2 houses, and not because my family is rich. In one I have a brother, small dog, cat, grandmother, mother, and brother's roomate. In the other is my dad, my step mom, and me. High school sucks. Orange juice is my favorite drink. You are reading this. That's about all the useless facts I got, sorry.

    Zed "Reptile" Vision?

They don't have "poor vision" persay, it's just a different type of vision. Honestly, when you stink, you aren't going to be smelled unless super-close anyway. They would still be able to smell you, but it wouldn't be a "human" smell. Say you had blood gushing out of you or someone else's blood-stained clothes. That's where smell would be a factor. The fact of the vision is that other senses develop, in this case it would be blindness develops into something else, but their not blind, just seeing in a different way. Reptiles see, they just don't know what living thing is there until it moves. Unless you want to give an upgrade to their 'taste' sense? Or their 'touch'? Zombies thoughfully chewing player meat, and running their hands over walls and guts. Sound like what you had in mind?
  3. If you join BB and get in with Zabn he'll tell you all of our secrets.... Until then...
  4. Do you like the world? Want to save it? Maybe just live on it so you don't really like it but would like to save it so you and whoever you care about can go on living your lives because without a world you would thus be unable do carry out functions in which to live and therefore would be counter-constructive? Well then you're at the right place. This thread, right here, is dedicated to the Balota Buddies server group. You might be asking, right now, what does planetary endangerment have to do with Balota Buddies? Well, stop asking useless questions, and just TRUST ME. What is a community without trust? Moving on. --------- I believe that this community would be more populated if people had a push. So here it is; the push. Think of this thread as not mine, but the whole forums'. (Awwwwww ) While being titled "Hell on Earth", Balota Buddies HQ is housed on the 13th Floor of Terror Tower in Disney World, Orlando, FL. Unfortunately, since power is not an option in such a place, BB engines that are used to run our equipment is fueled by the lost hopes and dreams of children who are unfortunate enough to wander that far off the ride. And you know kids, they're dreamers! Needless to say, we get a lot of power, though the problem is that all unused power from the dreams is squandered, so we're unable to sell the power back to the power company. This means we still need donations for our server to run. Our community though, is just too lazy to push you to donate, so don't worry, you won't be locked in a dark room in Mexico while beaten with a pillowcase full of onions (they keep us safe) and that security, I think, is what keeps our members confident, and encourages the ones who can financially contribute to do so. BusinessmanD' The extents of our terror and controlled locations stretches from the US (United States) to EU (Europe, primarily UK), and AU (Australia). The people who live in these lands are happy and are compulsive liars; if they tell you any different they are trying to gain sympathy and this should be reported to either Inception., Star, Delta, or Derpy_Hooves to be dealt with. We thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe. Servers are well run, usually manned by 1 or 2 admins at a time, depending on server pop. If not, you can count on the snitche- I mean the wonderful people who help clean out the trash- to report to admins and moderators. It leads to a very consistent world with the player base, as people develop habits such as medivacs or kill teams, and things can go as far as you can gather intel of personnel and even plot against them! You know, if you're a creepy person and you can manage to find a pair of binocs.... Though it's mostly between habits when the real action happens, and in that you'll prove yourself. Interesting about the consistency, too, there's often been times where a vehicle I find and lose one day will appear again in my possession, a few days later! It's always interesting, I'll give you that. Take your pick and team up, as this section of the Inferno has a Wasteland server, complete with server-side spawning (might still be in-development, but otherwise there), which runs very clean and fast. BB owns its own Factions server- a modded version of DayZ to increase playing as a group. Features such as custom faction skins and GUID-activated gates is on the AU Factions server. If you're a dirty American, don't worry, you fat, filthy pig! BB is working on getting a Factions server active for US! Cold winds have been known to sweep through occasionally, and the all too often scream of a player getting his/her guts ripped out by a bloodsucker. Namalsk is an option here, as well. Scripts are being worked on every day to enhance the DayZ experience, such as refuel scripts and taking the good car parts off of vehicles! There's a supermarket in Kamenka that is full of anti-depressants (to avoid the high suicide rate of that area), and there are scattered medical camps in remote locations. NEAF is now a hotspot with a total of -more than NWAF- barracks and is frequented by snipers. I'm not going to spoil it, just know that you'll learn quick what to do. Team up with regulars, make some friends, and have an adventure! Develop the world around you and take advantage of the consistency of the server. Safe zones, strongholds, and etc are all an option if you have the manpower and the know-how. I challenge you to change the face of this place! Make it ugly! Right now, all we have on are cute puppy faces asking you to join: ...oh, and... don't mind that last one... that's just Steak (& Potatoes).... Also, before I just ask you to do some random thing that you have no commitment of actually doing, let me start off by showing to you a short list of what everyone loves: rules. Rule #1- The cake is a lie. Rule #2- We don't talk about Rule #1. Rule #3- We don't talk about Rule #2. Rule #4- Respect, love, and hugs is our motto! Rule #5- Use common sense. Rule #6- The world is flat (so we may all be on the same 'level'). Rule #7- More on how things work, Balota Buddies has a system to make sure everyone is doing the right thing as they're doing it. Being in the TeamSpeak (ts.balotabuddies.net) is essential when playing on BB servers. Don't worry, if you like another TS, you can open BB in another tab or window and head over to the AFK channel while you talk on the other TS. Be sure to answer if someone needs you, though! Being on TS assures that players can be appropriately handled. Also, it ensures that, since one of the TS rules is that anyone in your channel is henceforth removed from your rampage of banditry and destruction (otherwise known as you can't PK your channel buddies), players have a chance to get into a safe zone from you. Or talk some sense into you. Etc etc. Side chat is enabled, but voice is not (allowed), and side chat has a sort of functionality replicating a bug zapper. It looks pretty, and you get closer, and all the noobs make funny noises as they fry at your feet. You'll see what I mean eventually. And so, if I've managed to keep you interested thus far I have done my job, and there is still more to be done, so I will continue to pursue in your interests! The purpose of this thread and the relevance of its placement is regarding the fact that I will not create a very long run-on sentence explaining what you must do while I write it out in my head as the mind-narrator progressively grows faster in speech with less and less air- *gasp* in which the purpose of this sentence is to inform you that since people need a kickstart to get into something, this thread introduces somewhere to hub, where new players can come into BB and not feel alone, and start amazing groups, whether it's RP, objective-based, or just fooling around! Or maybe you want to be a lone wolf and be registered as such? You can now have that title, if you just reply to this thread and follow whitelisting instructions. What I'll be doing is anyone who shows interest in this can PM me with their group or lone wolf "application". All applications will be accepted. They must include a wild, silly, wacky, or otherwise outrageous -relevance to topic is optional- name that is fun to say, a bio and/or list of objectives you have for BB included. A member list can be set up if you so wish, and to start off, I'll be asking the gracious members of BB who have a group to make their own bios and such and posting them here for you all to see! Pre-existing BB groups will be marked with a [bB] to see who has how much of a foothold in the wasteland. If you're STILL not convinced, then take a gander over to all the links I have to track down from the BB members of their wonderful videos displaying their wonderful personality and chemistry, as well as just what goes on in these servers. And if that isn't enough, BB is always looking for talent that can contribute, and will be sure to use resources you give them (if actually DO have the 'talent', not like the "mom-posted-your-stick-figure-drawing-on-the-fridge, good job" kind of talent). So make stuff for us! Anyway, the links will be here soon, I'll put down some of the ones I know without the permission of the authors, now.... We have our own meme's! (best to look at these once you've been in for a week or so) http://balotabuddies...-buddies-memes/ ...and pictures! http://balotabuddies...72-screenshots/ ...and imposing ideas! http://balotabuddies...-bb-propaganda/ Flaming Defibs (it's short for defibrillators, presumably) videos, here! (by Nugo) The People of BB: Bill Nye the Science Guy -a few words from him: (More coming) Oh, gosh, I forgot to link you to the foothold of our operation, our site! Heart Beats Steel, Any Day

You think you know what's up? That's really arrogant of you. I find AKs, M16s and ect all the time. I don't pick them up because there's usually 3-5 clips in them and that's just no fun. I find chopper crashes and pass by airfields same as any other guy. Don't assume I can't find anything. You ever go to an airfield? I find just in NWAF barracks about 8 assault rifles, 3 sniper rifles, maybe an SMG or two, and usually atleast 1 LMG, so don't bullshit that civvie weapons are easier to find. You only see crossbows in supermarkets now, with the occasional pistol. Pubs usually don't have much civ weapons anymore except for, again, pistols. A CZ550 is hard to find except on a few select days when the server decides to spawn them. Even in barns, it's hard to find guns besides hatchets, and I check behind the hay stacks and on ground level too. Even if I do find a weapon there, it's only with 1 or 2 mags. Sure, they can be found most places, but in small quantity and not all in one place, unlike your little stanag weapon that you found 9 mags for within 100m of eachother. CZs are even harder to find ammo for, especially when you ACTUALLY NEED it. These guns have steel components? Well I didn't know tha- of course I knew, know-it-all. That's not the point. That's art for art's sake. They're not full-metal like the other guns, but that's not the point either. Pretty much ALL civilian guns are made of wood either in part or predominantly: the Enfield (metal straps on shaft, shaft wood, stock wood), Winchester (has a metal gearbox, wood stock), double barrel shotgun (essentially wood laced with metal, metal gearbox), CZ550 (plastic scope, wood gun, metal barrel). Even the AKs have wood on them, though I don't use them that much. The M1014 and Remmington 870 are metal, but like I said, that wasn't the point. It's funny to think you ACTUALLY thought it meant a whole lot while everyone else accepted it for what it was and did not overthink it at all. Good job. You fail to see how it makes me different, however? Because people underestimate it. They think DMRs and M4A3s are everything, when they're not. You can kill someone with a Makarov with 1 shot, if you shoot them in the head. A player. I dunno how you get "high powered" off of the CZ, because my mentioned kills from it were 1) no more than 400m away, 2) hit the person in significant vital areas INCLUDING the head, as the sniper in Cherno was pointed out. That's not overpowered, that's anatomy. Hitting someone with a DMR, M24, or M40A3 will USUALLY knock that person unconscious and break their legs. The CZ would IRL knock them on their ass, but in DayZ it simply hurts them a lot. DMR does about 8000 blood damage for a torso/appendages. The CZ does about 5000-6000 for the same. I killed the sniper in Elektro because of the close range and area I hit him in. The sniper in Cherno was hit in the head, which would kill him indefinitely. Plus, I had no idea what their blood levels were at. Who knows, maybe if they were full, if they weren't already, they would have survived? On the contrary, had I been hit anywhere by their .50s, I would have been dead, instantly. If I had gotten hit by the DMR (which I did, but got lucky) I'd be in pain, probably knocked out and on low blood. Even with that, I killed him. With DMR mags, anyway, you can find them more common than Enfield mags, and in towns where the gun doesn't even spawn. There are less barns than areas for DMR mags to spawn in Chernarus. I'm saying people who think that military guns are all the rage are full of shit. Servers with all these military spawns are doing nothing when you can as easily kill someone with a Winchester. And I see your point of contradiction there. If they can kill so easily, and I 'bash' on guns that do that, how does that make sense? Headshots, remember? Is one reason. Also, the element of surprise. Going forward, I'm not just talking about the gun, but the player who has it. A clever hiding place or a good ridge is all you need, or even the right skill. The point is if the exact same fight happened in which you had an Enfield in the first fight and a FN FAL in the next, you would have little change in the chance of you winning the second battle as you did the first. What matters is actions and reactions, and that's it. And THAT'S where that comes from. I'm also saying that players who join these servers with intense military spawns are denying themselves the feel of insecurity and tension that comes with a SURVIVAL game. They can just shoot, and shoot, and shoot, and don't have to care, while as combat with closely finite resources is a much better one as you can't just suppress someone around the corner until you get an angle and kill them. It's not in the survival spirit, because all that loot was found so quickly and in one place. There was no scrounging, effort, or meaning to it. It was smoke grenade > run into barracks > get gun with lots of ammo and steal ammo from gun right next to it > run out. And if you can't see that, then... wow.
  6. Ok, I can't read that blue text. AT ALL. Anyway, I think radios in cars and cassette players would be a good idea. You can use the music to attract zeds, like turning up an old car radio all the way and running away. Of course, unless Green Mountain had power, or the various other radio stations around Chernarus, you'd get only very loud static. Then, you can just drive around with a radio on if the radio station is on, or play a cassette if you have one. Also, if someone crashes their car and dies, imagine trying to get the loot in the car with all the zeds swarming around it from the noise.

I can try. I've never actually had a hatchet when fighting a bloodsucker. Well, that's not true. I've never had time TO GET IT OUT while being CHASED by a bloodsucker. I'm sure it can be done, but if you mean in terms of combat, sometimes it's better to run from a fight and live, rather than fight it out. I've done both.

There is no "superior weapon". That's one of my points. I've heard people, and I myself have done this once or twice, where someone with a 'big bad military gun' sees me, and I still manage to sneak up and kill them with a hatchet, virtually unscathed. It doesn't matter if you have surprise or not, all you need is SOMETHING.

    Heart Beats Steel, Any Day

After taking out a sniper in Cherno with my CZ550, after he had hit me once already with his DMR, and considering it only took 1 shot from me to kill him, yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. But also, that if you continue to use these weapons which have an overabundance (because ArmA is a military simulator so the ratio of civvie to military guns is about 1:75, and in DayZ probably 1:15), you're denying yourself a truly immersive and exhilarating experience. It's like when you are fighting in The Last of Us against the infected with only a few bullets. It's that intensity combined with DayZ's intensity and risk of life, added on the thrill of taking down another living being. Using a gun where you can find ammo boxes with tons of ammo for and never have to worry about a thing, only to take a chicken run back to one of the convenient places to get such a weapon of the same caliber with about the same ammo when you die just ruins the whole thing, in my opinion. If you had to WORK for all that, fighting through tons of crap to get the ammo stash, or looting tons of places until you collectively found it all, not throwing a smoke, running into a barracks and using your SD to take out anything that follows you in- THEN, it would be as worth as now scavenging for the dwindling supply of CZ ammo around Chernarus. It takes you places, and those places take you places. That's where the party's at!

You confuse me with your language. Essentially, no, you don't need it. Usually people with those things just use it to kill. Come standalone time, you'll be using it to keep things from killing you; and most will be left behind. Come the day when not a DMR to be found, get ready, bitches! I THINK you're being sarcastic to who my post is directed to, but unsure. If I'm right, the above lines aren't of much relevance to you.
  11. I've grown tired of the bullshit. DMRs, SVD Camos, LMGs tearing through bodies... ...grenade launchers, .50 cals, ACOG scopes- they can all go to hell. For some odd reason, people still seek these out. As myself, it's nice when I find one. Though lately, I've taken to using only a certain tier of weapons. The Winchester, Enfield, CZ550, Double-Barrel Shotgun, M1014, and the Remmington 870. I have killed just as many people just as easily with these weapons than any others. Namalsk- up against a man with a helicopter, warm clothing, AS50, who knows what else. Armed with: 1 hatchet. BEGIN! I sneak myself up to where he lands. He's waiting for something. There's a C130 crash nearby. I could go and get a weapon from it, and shoot him, but he probably has a buddy there, who he's waiting for. I watch him from the trees, hoping my suit and tie doesn't clash too much with the shrubery. 5 minutes. Moving as he's distracted. Zombies, gear in the chopper. It feels like a damn campaign mission. Undetected. There's a chopper in the distance that also lands nearby. Perfect distraction. I run straight for him, and he turns around in just enough time to move out of the way. I run after him, knowing he can't bring his gun up in enough time to be able to aim AND hit me, especially with no crosshairs. I finally break his legs, and chop at him, recoiling his view upward, the two shots he fired missing, flying upward to land in the ocean somewhere. He is now dead. .50 military gear survivor vs. newspawn w/ hatchet. Didn't need no fancy gear to take this guy down, all I needed was to play smart. Chernarus- 2 .50cal ghilles in Elektro on the NW hill. Armed with: CZ550, 5 shots. ROUND 2, FIGHT! This truly felt like a survival situation. Seeing the snipers, I had gone around the town to Pik Kozlova, first checking the top, with, unfortunately absolutely NO weapon. I snuck down and saw them. Keeping close, I followed until they went ahead on a hill, and I went into the barn in hopes of finding a gun. CZ550, 1 mag. I sneak out and around utterly undetected by anything, and there, I see some movement ahead. At the edge of the treeline, there's a ghille, aiming his gun over the town. I hide behind a bush, set my zeroing to 100, and wait for him to be still. I couldn't see his head since a bush was covering it, so I aimed just about where I thought it would be, and shot. 1 ghille falls over. Double tap in the head this time- you know, to make sure he wouldn't turn and come back. 1 left. I just fired 2 shots from the same direction, and I have no clue as to where his partner is hiding. It ends up he gets away/logs off/hides, and I couldn't find him. There's been plenty of other battles- those two are the most recent. My point is: In DayZ, it's not about the gear, so stop acting like it is. Joining all these servers about starting with rifles, pistols; everything you'd ever need. Hell, I've killed with a crowbar and gotten out with only 1 or 2 small holes! You don't need these fancy assault rifles. In fact, having 5 bullets and NOTHING was FUN. That's right. I knew I had to make the shots count, or I was dead. Or I was done. And they would win. Sneaking up on someone and breaking their face in with a blunt blade is exciting. Why do you deny yourselves these experiences? Challenge yourself- push yourselves to the limits. DayZ is a game of heart, will, and determination, not having a load of steel on your back and in your hands. Wood is lighter, travel faster, kills the same. It's not even about the kill. Plenty of times have I been unarmed and escaped an armed opponent, so it's not even that. There are those of you who rely on your big fancy rifles to get things done. And there are those of us who can use just about anything, and be just as dangerous. Just remember, when you are spoiling yourself, grabbing all these murder-machines, not giving a second thought- that there is atleast a handful of people who can take you out however they please. Don't get comfortable. I'm not saying you shouldn't have these things. I'm not saying you shouldn't use them. What I am saying is- when you trade in a unique experience for something so unoriginal and devoid of the essence of what truly makes DayZ a game- having a problem, and overcoming it no matter what- and striving onward, you aren't doing anything for yourself. Feel each shot eject out of you. Wince as it goes. And feel relieved when it hits the target, and your problem is solved. You LIVED. Because right now, there's an over-abundance of servers that just don't quite get the memo. Barracks in Kamenka... military crap EVERYWHERE.... This confidence gets you killed. DayZ is a survival game, get it?

    Zed "Reptile" Vision?

I have to say it SHOULD be less buggy than what it is now. Theoretically, of course. They can give it a whirl, if anything.

    buildings in SA

It depends WHERE you can hide them in houses. Under floor boards, in walls, attics, and inside old, unused boilers would be excellent places. Even in the dog shed. But hiding them just IN the house is not a good idea. Also, if you hide a tent next to some surrounding rocks, it's better than trees. Much better. I'm all for putting my ammo boxes in old, rotted out basement boilers. Or chimneys. That seems like a real good place.
  14. person915

    Zed "Reptile" Vision?

As of now, zeds have a sight system based off of visual. They can see you (more or less) based off what stance you are in, if you are next to cover, ect ect. This proposal suggests that zeds operate off of movement for identifying targets as do some reptilian creatures, saying that if you stay still, they can't see you - or atleast not very well at all (*remembers Jurassic Park*). I think it will remove a TON of unfairness that zeds have in detecting someone visually. There will be no zeds across a field randomly running toward you even though you are crouch-walking next to a wall as every other zombie facing you is completely oblivious to your presence. There won't be any zeds to see you crossing a street while you are laying on the ground and you have 0 bars for both hearing and visual (that is, if you stay still until their view goes). Not only that, but it opens new doors for getting away from zombies and sneaking into towns. To get away from zombies, instead of leading them into trees to make them walk, you simply break direct visual contact, and since they can't see movement, stay still behind the wall you just went to, and let them all pass, leaving you undetected. Of course, if a zombie runs into you, then you're pretty screwed. Stances like standing and crouching should have a slight visual range for zombies, simulating swaying, breathing, and otherwise unavoidable movement of the body, so say when they are within about 14m of the player standing they will NOTICE, and come to investigate, and when crouching, they NOTICE at about 7m. Changing stances should be considered as movement to zombies. Movement based identification also means that when you shoot a gun, if you hide and stay still you can avoid getting detected by any zombies that might've heard. Another feature would be that if you failed to do this, the zombies see you freakin' SPRINTING away from them, and therefore have essentially a clear sight for murder. Since they see you off movement and you move to run away, they'll stay on your heels until you can outsmart them. It also encourages players to take things slow around zombies, and instead of it being easier to aggro all the zombies in town because they'll glitch and see you anyway, there's a way to actually do things - don't move a damn muscle! Until it's safe and you can move on, of course. And perhaps, when they see something, and they break visual and cannot see it anymore, they should run after it for a short duration until stopping. This makes the player hiding out from the horde have a chance to be physically RUN into, and the chase begins again. I believe that zombies should have to notice a player before they go after it. They should run toward where the object is GOING, ALWAYS. This effect is so you can throw flares, cans, and other things to distract zombies, so the go to investigate the movement they just saw, combined with the noise. They don't run- they investigate. They have no reason to run yet.
