I've changed my FOV, but since it affects how you look through a scope I want my FOV back to the default settings for a 1280x1024 monitor. I've found the config file, now I'm just wondering if this is correct: thnx

Free DayZ StandAlone TeamSpeak @ 37.187.195.75 - ZombieWorld.eu -- SA Server is up !!!
Quazoosl replied to U.G.N - Jedi Panda's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
made a mistake in my GUID, finally found it. it must be b7f8f1b0f50fcb9dafdf4d952bf18498 -
Wouldn't it be logical that in a zombie apocalypse, when you get killed by a zombie that you get infected? Your corpse would then rise again and starts roaming around. The infected corpse could drop what they are holding in their hands at that time (hatchet, rifle or handgun) because of course Z's are quite stupid, but still keep the rest of the gear on them (backpack, tools etc). Perhaps when you get hit by a Z there could be a chance you get infected while alive and you'd slowly start twitching and have increasing time intervals of uncontrolled Zombie-like behaviour? Perhaps in it's early stages it would be curable with an epi-pen. I'm just thinking out loud here, what do you guys think?

Yeah the forum is quite big, and the amount of hits you get on a search query that are not related to what you're looking for is also insane. But I know now. Thank you for explaining. I didn't know that. I'm really looking forward to exploring the whole story in SA :)

Hi all, I first played DayZ on a 8800GT and now I've upgraded tot the GTX560 Ti. Needless to say, on my previous graphics card the game was barely playable. I wonder if anyone can help me find the optimal video settings for my graphics card. To be honest don't have the idea that the video performance improved even half the rate it should have. Could I be doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I heard about that backstory in SA, would be cool. Since you clearly state it isn't possible due to the backstory, I've gotten quite curious what that backstory is so far? As you state in a later post that no-one really knows how Chernarrus got infected except Rocket and his brother, isn't it a bit premature for such statements?

Well duhh... Everyone with a reasonable knowledge of the English language could tell you that 'disappear' and 'be removed' both have different meanings. Hence why I find it odd that you would spend the time to respond to me. And if this was your true meaning, why in such a condescending way? Maybe you're just rude - who knows? Only me...

There are other ways in which they van disappear: Exploding vehicle, flattened tent, backpack without enough space and finally death in combination with server restart before body is looted.

I'm sad to see it go. Some might see the gun as an unfair advantage. I don't. Just like NVgogs everyone has the ability to find them. They are just rare. Being able to keep it though sounds as a particular unfair advantage. The only possibility of getting it now is to kill someone that has it and thus has an advantage over you. ( Assuming the people having it are smart enough not to die in another way) Taking the gun away doesn't sound fair either. I think ppl should get a replacement for the gun. If possible an item of their own choice. My vote though would be to bring it back.

Buildings exploding! Users dying!
Quazoosl replied to Jack Weesy's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Had a building explode when a friend threw a smoke grenade. Wasn't hackers because we were te only ones on the server. -
If the bandit skins are still in the standalone I'm going to be pissed.
Quazoosl replied to electroban's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
@OP: Well you are clearly looking for a game in which your actions have no consequences. This is not that game. -
Well if you don't intend to have fun I think you might be playing this game for the wrong reason. And about the loaded gun, I'll just quote myself on that:

Do you feel bad when you kill someone?
Quazoosl replied to mitor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Accidents happen, but if it wasn't an accident I don't feel bad. In my first day in DayZ I met a player driving a bus and he gave me a lift. I had a shotgun and he was unarmed. He tried to convince me that since I was new to the game and I had never fired a gun before it would be wiser to hand him the gun. At first I refused, but when I saw that he was a bandit (I had just read about them) then I said: "ok... you can have my gun." We got out of the bus and I shot him in the head. That was the exact moment I was hooked. I just know it would have been me in stead of him if I had given him my gun. Yeah I could have walked away, but this was very exciting, desciding wether to kill him or not. Asking myself if he would suspect something? What if I missed? The best part was that after I shot him he didn't have the option to start whining about it. Thats one of the things that really annoys the hell out of me in other games like call of duty. I just knew he was freaking out behind his pc because his elaborate plan to kill me had just backfired and it had cost him his life, and his bus :) Don't get me wrong, I'm a pretty nice guy (hero) in game, but when it comes to bandits I shoot on sight. And I don't feel the least bit bad about it. -
Well I think this game (and every other game) is about having fun. I don't see the fun in having to crawl to the nearest zombie. That zombie might be in the closest village, and you might not have any idea where that is... And people that are going to do that will kill themselves anyway. Why make it hard? Yeah it's taking the easy way out. But thats what ppl that commit suicide do isn't it? I think it only adds to the realism. a custom death message like: 'PlayerName committed suicide' would be cool I'd say. Then everybody in the server would know someone has pussied out like a baus. You could even add a humanity penalty.

Hi guys, Reason So my friends and I tried to follow the great example set by the cherno police and players like Frankie and we went camper hunting. For me this nearly ended in disaster because I needed a lot of time to adjust the zeroing of my AS50. When I had a rooftop-camping bandit in my crosshair I first had to determine the distance, adjust my zeroing and by the time I was nearly done with that the rooftop-camping-bandit had spotted us and bullets were whistling past our ears. One of us got killed, the other got shot and luckily we at least were able to secure his corpse and loot. Zeroing Help Sheet Because of that unsuccesful and nearly disasterous adventure I'm currently working on a zeroing-help-sheet. The idea is that with this sheet you can quickly determine the distance to a target. It would work as followed: Spot an object, determine the relative height on your scope, glance at the sheet to determine the distance and adjust your zeroing accordingly. Example: You spot a standing Z, it is two-and-a-half mildots high on your scope, In the column Standing Z you'll find 720 m distance in the 2,5 row so you adjust your zeroing to 700. Practising this ofcourse will in time give you a proper feel for distance and you'll need the sheet less and less. As soon as I've finished the first version of this sheet (guessing later this week) I will of course share it with you guys. But there are other ways... Yes I know, but this way I think is the best. Using waypoint markers or rangefinders both require you to lose eyes from your target (if you haven't predetermined the distance to where you spot someone or don't have someone in your squad spotting for you) and scrolling I consider to be lame glitching. If you know a faster, easyer and/or more effective way please enlighten me! So why are you posting this? To create this sheet I need the height of all the things that can be usefull in determining distance. I found that standing Z's are 1.8 m, monkey Z's are 0.9 m and crawling z's are 0.4 m. I am assuming the height of a standing player is 1.8 m (the same as a standing Z), and the hight of a player in prone is 0.4 m (the same as a crawling Z), but I figure crouch-running and crouching players have a different height than a monkey Z. The formula I use is (ObjectHeight×1000)/MildotHeight=Distance The questions I'd like to have answered: Is the information that I am using correct? What are or where can I find heights of usefull in-game objects? What objects you would like me to use? Information about aiming with differently scoped sniper rifles. An example of an object I'd like to use is a barn door. Quite common and and any other common objects that can be usefull. If it's common and has a fixed height I can use it. I'll be testing some heights myself using waypoint markers and my own scope, but some help would be greatly appreciated :) Credits DayZAzzminov PsySyndicate

*sigh* I'll just quote myself on this:

Will the standalone have private servers? I couldn't find any info it but if it will not this will be the dealbreaker for me personally. I've seen a lot of games get ruined by hackers, and the only thing that up untill now has worked to keep hackers out has been private servers. Call of Duty 2 and 3 have been utterly ruined by hackers because of this. In call of duty it was very frustrating getting killed by a hacker, but that had no effect on your character. Even if the devs manage to keep the DayZ standalone pretty much clear of hackers because of the permadeath the impact a hacker can have is enourmous. I'm curious how the standalone devs wil plan to deal with hackers. Will it be played through steam and have VAC? That would be a good start. Also I think the option to report hackers and have active global admins dealing with hackers straight away is important. The community has a lot of willing members that I am sure will gladly volunteer to help out. I've been working for days and days to develop a character, find loot and find the rarest items. If I was killed by a normal player I would have said well played and allthough the loss had been huge I would have had peace with it because it was fair game. The fact that yesterday I lost my coyote backpack, rangefinders, m4a1ccosd, AS50, m9sd and all the tools in the game (exept for that dodgy crowbar) because of someone driving around in a bullet proof tractor shooting me with an auto aiming gatling gun has made sure that in this mod I will never ever join a public server again. I'll rent my own server if I have to. Now I don't wanna be all whiny about it, I think the mod is fan-fucking-tastic and I haven't even payed a single cent for it. I even bought Arma II + Operation arrowhead (wich up untill now I've never ever played and probably never will) just to play this game because I'm in love with the concept. It just doesn't get much better than that. If the standalone doesn't have private servers though I won't buy it. period. If the plan is though to keep allowing private servers and you're looking for people to help out in ridding the game of hackers just tell me where to sign up.

has been noted ;)

I don't assume that dev's arent trying hard to keep a game (relatively) hack free, I do know that it has been tried before by a lot of game developers and they all have failed. (But I will dig through the devs posts perhaps I will be convinced... I doubt it though.) My question wether the SA will have private servers still stands but I feel a slight suggestion to a negative answer on that topic :P Yeah I can probably read that in the devs posts aswell... I guess I have some reading to do. OP? can you clarify?
-
Strictly speaking not, you're right. I think I suggested a suggestion though. It all depends on how much of my post the devs plan to incorporate into the game. But when that question has been answered I will be sure to clearly formulate my suggestions in the proper forum to be sure I'm not suggesting one should ask a question about a possible suggestion in the suggestion forum :P
-
Good idea! Requirements should be broken bones and a loaded gun though imho.
-
Well I never thought I'd admit being wrong when I was right. I must have been very very tired :P Let me try and explain it clearly now: imagine you have 2 bullets and you stand on a flat plane, one bullet gets shot horizontally and the other one will be dropped from the same height at the exact same moment. They will both hit the ground at the same time assuming the bullet doesn't generate any lift, even taking air resistance into account. I'm quite certain that this is how it works since this is the exact example that I have been taught. If you're interrested, the formula for the vertical travel (travel in the y axis) is sBy = sAy + vAy* tA-B + 1/2 * ac * t2 The case we are describing is 2 bullets both fired at the same angle from the horizontal plane, one gets shot uphill, the other downhill. 1 is the moment of firing, 2 is the end of the bullet path. s = distance (height in this case) v = velocity t = time ac = accelleration (9,81 m/s2) The end height without drop would be: sBy = sAy + vAy* tA-B The drop is 1/2 * ac * t2 Since the accelleration doesn't change and the time the bullet travels doesn't change the drop remains the same. This would mean that aiming uphill would require you to shoot lower. I don't think the engine takes that into account.

That's the beauty of it, you can try to do 'the right thing' but that's harder and takes more effort. This is what I do when meeting the following players: Bandit shoot on sight Ghillie keep in crosshair, if he's teamed up with a bandit I'll shoot on sight. Survivor never turn my back to them Hero Cool, fairly certain he's on my side If you are meeting new people to team up with it helps to meet on teamspeak. If you'll be in the same teamspeak channel it'll be less likely to get shot because it has become more personal. Story time :) About two weeks ago our team of 3 were raiding NWAF in the middle of the night. I was having fun aggroing the zombies grouping an ever growing amount of Z's in a cluster by driving in a circle around them on my bike whilst my teammates were looting. They kept spawning and spawning. This must have been a hilarious sight. Needless to say I was attracting more attention than I was paying. Suddenly the bullets were whistlng my ears and I got hit a few times. I took off like a madman on my bike with about 80 Z's on my tail whilst informing my teammates of where I thought the silenced shots came from. One of my teammates was able to take one out before the end but in short we died and lost it all. All the gear we've collected over the course of a few days and our first real vehicle at the time: a motorbike. At first we were determined to find them and kill them. Shortly after respawning one of my team met some players and joined their teamspeak. We suspected they were the ones that shot us. Whilst I was plotting on how to ambush them while my friend was informing me of their location they (against all expectations) were very friendly and let him tag along looting the south coast. We found the player that we had killed was in their teamspeak so now we were sure it was them and we confonted them. They felt guilty about it all and we got back our motorbike and the gear they looted from us! Now we still work together and sometimes join forces. We're carefull enough not inform eachother where we stash our tents and vehicles but there has been talk of permanently combining forces. You can imagine it is quite a lot of fun to later bump into eachother on another server, join their teamspeak and have someone say "Hey m8, where are you at?" "Ok, hangon, I'll pick you up with our chopper and we can go hunting for some crash sites togehter!" In short: Being friendly is playing the game on hardcore difficulty yes, but it can be very, very rewarding :)

Sweeet!! thnx m8!
