As a viewer my only advice is be entertaining. Don't sit there and be a high school teacher who hates their job simply reciting what you see. Get into it, be fun and entertaining.

To persevere or not to persevere?
-AoXo- replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Stop treating it like some cult mantra and start treating it objectively, as a gamer, for the mod it is - not the "game" you want it to be. If it's been breeched by hackers and it makes it unplayable for a lot of people and they leave then so be it. Fix it or let it die. That's how it works. -
It's not really, simply for the fact that most people don't care. You might cite the OP as a case in point, but that's really after a number of times and he's come here to comment on the state of the game. He's not raging with tears, just trying to understand a portion of the game. If someone killed me in game for no reason I'd roll my eyes. the fact you get satisfaction out of that makes you seem pretty pathetic imo. >.>

When the update came out last week my download was 8Gb which I believe is the entire game lol

As others have said using the "it breaks immersion" excuse can't really fly if people are using Vent, TeamSpeak, Skype, etc to communicate.

Really? Your hands were shaking? >_>

3rd person when moving around, 1st person during combat or when in towns/enclosed areas.

Having content isn't the same as having information and skills spoonfed. I played DayZ enough to know that there isn't anything in the game. Having drag races is the same as saying that driving legally in the GTA games is part of the game. Driving legally is "something you can do," but it's certainly not part of the game; just as drag racing is "something you can do" but not part of DayZ. To suggest that it is part of DayZ is to suggest that it was intended (or as with other examples, allowed) and thus a conscious design choice, instead of it just being there as a side effect of bored or mischevious players. My issue is that "drag racing" is not content and most people are asking for "content" not "spoon fulls of rainbows and puppies". when people say "We want to fortify towns" or "we want some minor quests!" they're not saying "HEY ROCKET WRITE ME A LINEAR ON-RAILS STORY AND GIVE ME A MINIGUN AND INFINITE AMMO PL0X" (sorry for capslock) they are asking for content. Allowing players to fortify towns, or turning on power grids etc is all about letting the player do something he wants to do, but can't. Having NPC quests where you go to a certain town, find another NPC and fix him up isn't spoon feeding anyone with rules or motivation. Plenty of people want to go out there and help other people, it's just most of these other people are jackasses. It's near impossible to find someone you can trust, let alone someone who will trust you. I've never even seen a car or vehicle yet, and I'm sure if I did I would be gunned down before I found ANY parts, let alone get it up and running to go drag racing. What we can do, what content the game allows us to use, and what other players allow us to do are three different things, and in my experience the lack of content leaves players ruining the "rules and motivations" of other players who are already limited by a lack of content.

Night time doesn't serve a purpose
-AoXo- replied to jayboltz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Your soup has a fly in it? Learn to like the taste of flies or don't eat your soup! Problem solved! Except, not really, is it?I don't like that the day-night cycle is so long. I think 90 minutes of day and 30 minutes of night would be a nice cycle. It would help the game be more dynamic and not be so forceful so that people could just learn to adapt to it instead of avoiding it. I'm only stating an opinion so no need to tell me what Rocket can and can't do with the Arma engine. -
I get how this game is meant to be played
-AoXo- replied to roarboar's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because they just want to go around killing. They ignore the pretense of the "survival sandbox" and just treat it as an e-peen enlargment operation. Most people are after loot or dominance, not the survival experience. I've been playing this game like a zombie survival game. I try and avoid towns, I camp out and try and live off the land, I avoid confrontation and try to help people when I can. Unfortunately most of these people end up shooting me in the back. What did they gain? A few measly supplies they could step into the next house to get? All I can conclude is that the killings serve no purpose and take away from the supposed pretense of the game. -

What (should) keep you on the move is the need for survival. However, if you have a (decent) weapon at least, and enough food and water you don't really need to do anything. In a real situation you would be doing things to prepare for the future, but there is no "future" in this game because it's just a moment-by-moment setting. Food will never run out - it will just respawn; ammo and guns will always respawn and you'll just get lucky with these. Since you can't really prepare for much, you can't really keep yourself busy and just like in a real situation you resort to just sitting around and staying on guard (i.e. camping a room) or coming up with your own goals, which is what really puts you in danger and wastes resources. -
I'd like to see more pistols and hunting rifles and other civilian weapons. I don't really care where the runs are produced as I don't feel that it really has a distinct european/soviet feel anyway, so I'm fine with weapons from all over people included!

The issue regarding this mod, the people who bought the game for DayZ
-AoXo- replied to privatewolf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't you see man? It's like real life, you sit around doing nothing and wait for something to happen. It's the anticipation, the preparation for that 5 minute fight with someone who has no clue what they're doing so they just empty their clip into your general direction while you sit there calm, cool and collected patiently waiting for their head to line up in your scopes and then the sweet release of clicking a mouse button and causing them to die. That's what this is all about, none of that "instant gratification" stuff, where you can just turn the corner and get into the action and fun. That stuff is for CoD fanboys because CoD is the worst game ever made and no other game on earth has any similar play style, you know where you can get into a firefight pretty quickly? CoD invented that. People have different opinions about what they think is fun and suggesting features to add in is harmless and a good way to discuss different playstyles. You don't have to be an elitist douche like a lot of people in this thread seem to be. As long as you're having fun and enjoying the game, who the hell cares how you play it? Dismissal of these suggestions and differing opinions will just cause the playerbase to lose interest and the game itself to stagnate, causing it to become like Counterstrike or DotA type games where you pretty much can't play if you're new to it without being harassed, insulted or in general having your game ruined. Let the suggestions come in and discuss the merits and feasibility of them. Who knows? Maybe one of them will actually be a good idea? Ah, Quake, Goldeneye and Unreal Tournament all spring to mind that did that stuff before CoD.I am for suggestions! I just think the "carebear" comments are the ones stagnating it and not letting it move away from Arma the way it needs to. I look at things like the way you open/close doors or climb a ladder - these actions are painstaking slow and I think that's because Arma was meant to be played in a slower manner where you don't have 20 zombies chasing you. When you're in a DayZ situation like that you can't affored to have clunky menu systems hampering you. Likewise, you can't afford to have DayZ which is an open-world survival game play like a military-sim. -

Xbox 360 Xmapper Presets Created for Day-Z
-AoXo- replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why bother questioning it? Some games work better with mouse and keyboard, some don't. He's obviously one person who wants to use a controller for whatever reason.I use KB+M but I know if I was laying down in bed and wanted to play a controller would be handy! If you don't find this useful then don't use it, but don't be a jackass about it either. -

I disagree. I don't think people playing it "wrong" is the problem in regards to this. I think it's that ArmaII appealed to people who want to sit around all day doing nothing, not that that's the optimal way to play. It's these people now who have dictated how ArmaII, and thus DayZ, should be played. I like DayZ, and I like a lot of aspects of ArmaII that I think compliment DayZ very well - but I don't think ArmaII is a well made game, or that sitting around for an hour waiting for people to make decisions is what it's all about - nor would I be playing ArmaII if it wasn't for zombies. That said I realise Arma is not about instant gratification, and that's painfully obvious when I am in any sort of situation that requires me to make quick-thinking decisions and the game reacts too slowly. -
I'm more worried about established players. It seems a lot of bandits only kill for the thrill of it and not the loot, so taking away our only defense isn't going to end too well.

is dayz becoming over saturated in the media?
-AoXo- replied to thoxon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What he meant was, that while there is a lot of users for a mod, considering the coverage that it's getting (and as rocket pointed out the influx of new sales and what not) that you'd think that it had a lot more players. It's about its reception/coverage, not that it's a mod. Hope that made sense and cleared it up! Personally I think mods need MORE coverage. I've seen a lot of good mods die because no one cared about them. If DayZ gets coverage and more players then it gets support which encourages rocket to continue work on it beyond his own interests! (hopefully!) What I think is most important is that people don't play it BECAUSE it's popular, and then complain because it's not their type of game. There are A LOT of good suggestions floating around here that get sunk by "carebear" comments because people think those ideas are trying to change the mod instead of enhance it. -
I don't like the idea of no weapon unless there is melee action. I don't think I'd find myself irl going "oh I don't have a gun so I'll just stand here like a fucking idiot while these zombies eat me". No I'd beat them to fucking death with whatever I could find. So I think as far as any of the other loot goes, I could live with there being nothing, but I absolutly would need to spawn with a gun and ammom simply to over come the stupid mechanics.

I think this is about the loot you spawn with in your inventory? In which case I'm still not sure about my thoughts on it.
