It may be, but OP having basically no gpu power at his disposal is the problem in this case. His i5 is NOT the problem, while its true that a faster cpu would be nice.
-
I'm telling you it doesn't. I'm not new to ArmA, quite the contrary especially when it comes to dayz mod. I've benchmarked the game on at least 10 different systems and I'm telling you an i7 won't do you any good if you lack a decent gpu. A cpu does not run games modern 3d games period. Yes, it can be a bottleneck which in Arma it often is the case. I've had friends with i7 laptops and GT540m/GT550m struggling to get decent framerates. Why? Because a GT540m is not a really fast card. The i7 alone won't run the game for you, your framerates will suck. The GT550m did a better job although it still wasn't amazing. You need a gaming card if you want to run the game properly. The cpu is not the problem when you lack a gaming card to begin with.
-
The game does not run more on the cpu than anything. The graphics card is still the most important component. When you lack the base performance your game will lag. The 2410M, scoring 3000 points in the Passmark cpu list is fast enough to run the game when supported by a decent graphics card, which the GT 525m unfortunately is not. Even if he had an i7 combined with that graphics card his game would lag on low settings.
-
The GT 525m is your problem. Not a gaming card, it lacks the power to run DayZ mod properly even on lowest settings.

But.. you learn right? What you describe are nostalgic feelings you feel towards DayZ. You have climbed on top of a gas pump to avoid zombies. I can see why new players would do that but honestly after x amount of hours played zombies aren't as much of an issue anymore. You learn to adapt. I can see why one would ragequit when you die and lose your gear for the first, second or tenth time. But after a while one learns that gear doesn't mean everything. You are bound to lose it at some point. I remember finding my first enfield, it was awesome.. but yeah, that feeling can't really be replicated anymore since I've had probably 200 enfields by now not to mention other guns in about 1500 hours of play time. You speak of 'finding the jackpot' when you've found a DMR. In mod versions like DayZero that still is the jackpot. The whole 'coastwars' issue depends much on the server you play on, honestly if you can't find your way north without getting shot every time I would look for another server. Same goes for 'spawning with basass guns at the coast'. Really? You can't find a more hardcore survivory server? Have you even tried? In mods like Epoch there are other goals to pursue. Raiding bases or doing missions with a group of friends can give you that same 'finding the jackpot/big risk = big reward' kind of feeling you've once experienced whilst finding a mere lee enfield. There are still ways to get the adrenaline rush of discovering or accomplishing something in the game. Firefights up north, around missions or bases and whatnot still provide the most intense moments I've ever experienced in any game period - because in the end, no one wants to die and everyone wants to be the last man standing. It's not DayZ that has 'gone to shit', it's you not adapting. Try finding some good servers, a mod variant that suits your gaming likes, a nice community and a group of friends to play with before generalising all servers and mods to a huge pile of shit. If anything, its amazing that DayZ has become so diverse over the past 2 years.

With such a reply why should we ever take any of your questions seriously again? OP stated he knows he has to be patient and doesn't mind waiting even 7 years before its fixed. The next post someone tells him to be patient. I can see why OP perhaps decided to respond like that ;).

Is the DayZ mod still heavily populated? Steam has a great sale on Arma 2 so i was wondering.
Salva (DayZ) replied to wmike20052's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is 110% worth it. I'm kinda confused though, are some people here stating the performance in SA is better than the mod? Cuz I very much doubt it is.. -
And why is OP wrong in asking why the zombies are still a broken mess? It's a legit question. The zombies have been broken since launch (that is, over 5 months ago people, and the zombies had been in development before that as well). Yes it's an alpha, we know that. How many copies has the alpha sold? Something like 1.7 million? Thats alot of money. Therefore, I can understand how some people could wonder why the devs insist on having people hired to make clothing items etc. since the alpha has been such a great succes for Bohemia. Why did they not prioritize the zombie development since thats a very important aspect of the game? The zombies are still worse than even the dayz mod zombies, which imho is quite pathetic. I know Dean has told they are working on zombies, having completely reworked them once or a few times - I don't remember. We've been told time and time again to wait for improvement, but looking at the zombies not much has happened and I (and probably others, like OP) wonder wether something will actually happen in the near future or not. Are we wrong for that? I don't think so. I find that alot of people react really agressive on the fact that some people question the development decisions of the alpha, as if the devs are some gods that can do nothing wrong. But one musn't forget, we are the ones that paid for the alpha and gave the developers the oppurtunity to make it a succes. Wether it actually will be a succes or not is upto them, only they can make the best of it.

Tough one. I found it to be barely playable on a 5870 mobility so any lower than that is gonna hurt. Having said that, the game will run. Just up to you wether you find it playable or not.

Where's the best place to find a backpack?
Salva (DayZ) replied to zombieland78's topic in New Player Discussion
Do you remember the list of buildings I posted in your other thread? You can find backpacks in those buildings as well. Check out grocery stores and residential buildings (blue dots on dayzdb.com map). -
Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
Salva (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Wowow what's this? How can you NOT see where he is coming from? He never said he wants casual AS50s every 20 seconds or spawn in with a DMR. He said, in the end a game - therefore DayZ - should be about fun. Have you ever even played the mod yourself? Cuz there's plenty of mod variations that are pretty 'realistic' and rather slow paced in terms of gear progression (DayZero, or vanilla even?), but they still have a wide variety of weapons. It's as if you are stating DayZ mod equals Battlefield, which is the single biggest joke I've ever encountered on this forum. Also imho, what DayZ is 'about' is not set in stone. People have different playstyles and preferences, hence the huge variety the mod currently has to offer. Saying that one doesn't know what DayZ is about simply because he or she doesn't agree with your statement is complete nonsense. But then again, Cerbo Knight's original point was that a game should still be at least fun to play (at least to him). Imho, it's impossible to replicate that sense of 'finding your first gun, compass, can of food or whatever' time and time again. It gets old after hundreds of hours of play. I remember me finding my very first Lee in the mod close to 2 years ago, and it was amazing. But whenever I find a Lee now, wether in SA or the mod, I don't get that same feeling. No goosebumps whatsoever. It's because I'm not playing on my first character anymore, it could well be my 258th character for all I know. Is the game not for me then? Should I quit DayZ while I'm at it? What ís fun to (I think) most people that play the mod is the pvp and the roleplay that comes with it. The gunfights are not like CoD or Battlefield, not like anything to be honest. They are completely random and they never get old. Never ever. I still get adrenaline rushes from gunfights. Scavenging for supplies is indeed a core element of the game but it's not what makes the game itself fun, it's only a part of it. I think many people that enjoy the mod feel that the realism parts should not be overdone, which is currently (according to some, not all) happening in the SA. -
Can anyone shed some opinions about the CZ 550?
Salva (DayZ) replied to crazyandlazy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It depends on what version of DayZ you play. If you play Overwatch or end-game Epoch, I don't think it's a very effective gun to do AI missions or kill people with. There are many better guns. Having said that, a CZ 550 can be a very nice find when you start out a new character in any version of the mod. I think it can hold up quite well as a one of two primary weapons untill one finds a DMR or something like that. The CZ often has one problem though, and thats finding ammo! -
Okay, I did what I told you. This is what my game looks like at 1680x1050 with HUD set to large. I think it looks fine? All in proportion and no weird HUD issues like you described. I wonder, perhaps you forgot to set your HUD resolution to 1680x1050 as well? The HUD resolution has to match your video resolution. Like this:

Where best to find a hatchet and maybe food?
Salva (DayZ) replied to zombieland78's topic in New Player Discussion
Keep in mind that, although you cannot enter every building, some buildings have loot spawns outside (on doorsteps for instance). Thats why it shows they are lootable on that map, but not enterable as a building. Looking for food and drinks in general as well as backpacks, pistols + ammo, bandages, maps en compasses, the following buildings are your best bet among others (pictures taken from dayzdb.com map). Grocery store Office building (sometimes referred to as school) Pub building Orange residential building Red residential building Appartment building (can be a zombie death trap though since it only has one entrance) As far as the hospital goes, you said you couldn't enter it? You mean because of the glass windows? You can smash or shoot those. When shooting them though, make sure you shoot a few windows and not just one. I found that the glass won't break if you only shoot at one window instead of 2 or 3! Also, sometimes a box with medical supplies spawns at the backside of the hospital or at the roof. Might be worth checking out. -
Wow, that Just Cause story is just sad.. Hope you have some luck fiddling around with the options. Maybe tomorrow I could try installing the SA on my old gaming laptop, which has a 1680x1050 resolution. I will install and launch it for the first time on an external 16:9 (main) monitor so that the game is first played in a 16:9 AR (like in your situation) and then switch over to my laptop 16:10 screen (so playing without an external monitor) to see if I get the same problems you described. Just something I can try if you can't fix the problem.. maybe then I can somehow find a solution :/ Maybe it's helpful if we can get some screenshots to work with?
-
Do you mean your framerate is much worse at 1680x1050? I didn't get that part. Also, don't worry about your laptop being an Alienware. In the end it's the specs that matter and not the brand. Any tech person talking down someone else's system brand, disregarding the actual question is a fake and shouldn't bother responding imho. Wish I could actually help you but I know next to nothing about the SA graphic settings. If I understand you correctly, you say that once you go 16:10 on your external monitor the HUD is messed up right? And only when you change it to 16:9 AR (which isn't your native AR) the HUD is fixed?

This is how dumb punching is in this game.
Salva (DayZ) replied to shaeg's topic in General Discussion
Op said he thinks punching is kind of over the top and asks wether people agree with him or not. I don't think its a fair response to tell him to wait for the final game, especially since punching is a core mechanic of the SA - be it on experimental or stable servers. OP has paid for the game and I think he is allowed to share his opinion on game mechanics, if only for the sake of development. If no one is allowed to share their views, then how can the SA possibly ever be developed in a good way? Whats the whole point of the alpha phase then? Just my 2 cents. -
I doubt there's any way to make it better. DayZ, wether it be the SA or the mod is a very demanding game and your pc is simply not up to the task. Nothing really you can do about it sadly. You've already tried to fiddle around with the settings, thats about all you could have done.. :(
-
Yeah, basically zombies can't run into buildings. What I meant was, say you enter a firestation with 5 zombies chasing you and exit the building via another door (the back door) then those zombies will most likely still be walking inside that building while you will be outside running, long gone for those zombies to find you again. That doesn't work for barracks though, since those only have one entrance.. Finding friendlies, thats a tough one. I find that it depends alot on community of the server you play on. Most Epoch servers have groups of people working together via sidechat, people giving lifts from the south to the main traders (Stary Sobor, Klen and Bash, these locations have god mode) and whatnot. If you feel like trying another server, perhaps give UK 431 NoobsPlayground #4 - Epoch a go. Community is somewhat friendly, and although the server is kinda laggy at the moment I heard the admins are working on it. For specifics on Epoch try this: http://dayzepoch.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

I don't think there is a problem. It's pretty cool to see the discussion that spawns off that short story from OP. Seems like some people don't hesitate to call it an act of blatant banditry, which I find interesting and don't necessarily agree with. There's doing what one has to do in the heat of the moment, which can involve killing and doing not so nice things to others. And then there is banditry. Two different things imho.
-
I see where you're coming from Space Milk, I guess I could agree with you on the fact that this action as a whole wasn't OP 'being nice'. Perhaps normally OP would have killed a person on sight but just this once he tried to be 'nice' in that he engaged in a conversation with the person instead of killing him on sight. Maybe that is what he meant? It wasn't very nice of him to kill the person though as you explained.
-
No, no, no and no, I don't agree. He spotted someone and tried to communicate with that person to make him aware of his presence. The person did not respond, like at all. Not even acknowledge the existance of OP. What would you do if you know there's some guy with a weapon running around in pitch black that you know is not willing to communicate? You get rid of him, before he gets rid of you. Simple as that. How people call this banditry is beyond me. Imho, there is no such thing as: "I'll just leave this guy wandering around on the airfield whilst im still here as well, praying to god he won't kill me". Like, you either come to terms with eachother or one has to die. If people keep taking risks like that in a game like DayZ, you WILL get fucked over. In the end, in my opinion your life is more important than being 'good', whatever that may be.

It takes time to adapt to the game, especially the zombies. I notice that whenever I introduce a real life friend to play DayZ with our group, they are constantly worried about 'a zombie' as if its a threat. They aren't really, only in some situations. There's ways to deal with them. First off, make every shot you fire count. That is, only go for headshots. They will kill every zombie 100% garanteed, no matter what weapon you use. So if you have a pistol with 3 mags of ammo, you can basically kill 20 zombies. You can stand in bushes and pine tree branches, those make you invincible to zombies as they can't hit you whilst you're in those leaves. If you then wait a while, the zombies will wander off. Also, zombies can't directly chase you into buildings as they will 'lose you' and stop running. Entering and then leaving a building that has multiple exits can save you from a horde of zombies following you. However, to make this work, you gotta know what buildings to look for. This takes time. Knowing when to shoot and when not to is another important aspect. Sometimes it's better to run than to shoot that one zombie thats creeping up to you as it will most likely attract 10 others. Once you're past the 'zombies are scary and difficult' stage, you can focus on other goals and a whole new world opens. DayZ, to me anyway, has never been about the zombies. It's the players that make it interesting. You said you've only had about 2 encounters in 6 hours, which is too bad. But when those encounters happen, I find that it makes it a special event simply because they are so rare. I've logged over 1000 hours in DayZ mod and still get that adrenaline rush every time I spot a player. Theres ways to provoke confrontations with other players, especially once you find out where a player typically goes, what the hotspots are. I'd recommend you to give this map a try when you play: http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarus It shows all towns and lootable buildings, how they look (once you click the colored dots) and what you can find there. The game typically shows your location when you log in, some servers even show your current location in the HUD in realtime, making it easier to navigate once you have found a compass. I can't determine what DayZ is for you or anyone else. I just want to stress that it can take some time to get used to some of the (perhaps annoying?) aspects of the game as it can be really unforgiving. Maybe after a while you will appreciate the game for what it is :).

Suggestions on how to start playing
Salva (DayZ) replied to zombieland78's topic in New Player Discussion
All you have to do, after Arma 2 and OA finished downloading and installing on steam is fire them up both one time and then close it again. Then you can isntall the latest beta patch via DayZ Commander and pick a DayZ version. You do have both the regular Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead?
