    Epoc, should I bother?

I can see why Epoch doesnt appeal and to be fair I really didn't like the sound of trading and currency what not when i first tried the game earlier this year as I'm a massive fan of post apocalyptic stuff and to me it wasn't how I envisioned spending my zombie survivial experience. However I would say the mod works very well in practice and gives a lot more focus and longevity over vanilla day z. The crafting side of it and modular base building has been done really well and can be quite a challenge to do. The currency based on precious metals also works very well too. It makes scavenging and looting much more interesting as you can sell almost anything (dependent upon the server), so no more just hitting the high value military barracks! As has already been said - it really does depend on the server you play on. Personally I dont agree with safe trader zones so our server doesnt have them. For us the trader zone is meant to be a hotspot of danger, yes you can buy and sell stuff, making a lot of money and getting your hands on some good stuff, but it's a place where you're at your most vulnerable and likely to be killed. Also we've adjust trader prices so anything that makes survival easier costs a lot more gold, things like night vision, safes, choppers, cars, high end weapons all cost a lot more gold which means a lot more scavenging and trading etc. So again it all lends it self rather well to a longer game and survival experience. It also means stakes are actually much higher than in vanilla too as now instead of losing all that decent kit you can carry on you or fit in a small tent, you stand to lose a lot of gold, be it in physical gold, high priced items, vehicles or bases, that represents a lot of time and effort! Again not all bases are indestructible, our certainly arent on our server, and they usually do require some form of maintenance, which is done by using mortar which by default is not something you can just buy but something you have to search for - the bigger your base, yes the more you can store but also the more maintenance you need. I guess it depends on what sort of base you want, you can build your own compound with time and patience , which is purpose built and difficult to infiltrate , sure. Or you can take the easy approach and just fortify a quiet little building out in the middle of nowhere and scrimp and save to get a safe (which you could lose at the trader by being sniped by a bandit!). There are many different ways to achieve the same thing really but all have their pros and cons. Those key features aside there are also some other brilliant additions such as the additional vehicle s(there were even more before the last patch but a whole pack had to be removed :( ) , the loot weight system (you may have more slots available potentially but you can physically only carry so much weight!), there much more loot available, the crafting (which was available before vanilla), more clothing options, better loot locations (you have to hunt around for loot!), tougher zombies and even the chance you may turn into a zombie (its pretty irritating actually but can be good PvP). The mod it's self is one of the best developed mods available. The dev team havent just given up after the first release and they are constantly improving it and taking on the feedback of the community. Its actually quite a well balanced mod and it's truly, in my opinion, a much more multi-play suited game . True it's not in the die hard zombie survival genre but it's a very well thought out mod and lends it's self well to MMO and long term sand-box gaming. You really should try it, there's a reason it's rapidly becoming the flavour of choice and I sincerely hope this mod is ported to stand alone!
  2. IT'S BUILDING WEEK ON OUR SERVER! Starting Saturday we will be hosting a fun little event on our Epoch server encourage to let members get creative! We will be hosting "building week", which will basically see our members being encouraged to create their own little strong holds and camps. At the end of the week (Sunday 17th) members can then submit screens/videos of their base, with the top 3 bases winning membership points and some in-game gold! Full details and rules can be found in our events section of the website! To help facilitate this our trader stocks will be boosted and additional building items will be made available in large quantities. This is planned to be the first in a series of similar events designed to indulge our base building members and to encourage activity on our server, and the entries made in this event will need to be improved upon for future events - so there will be no submitting of the same awesome bases! Check out the events section for more info!

Looking for someone to team-up with?

Hi mate, you're welcome to check us out @ BSB Network. We're primarily an open adult gaming group playing on the public Musty Gaming public Epoch servers (awesome servers) for PvP fun as a good sized group, and on our own Epoch server for slower paced PvE games. We play in organised groups and teams but still have a laugh and a bit of banter as we play. We have supported day z since launch and will be supporting stand alone and have been gaming as a group since back in 2002 - so we're stable and consistent. We have our website and Teamspeak server and you're welcome to hop on and run with us any time, membership not necessary. We have no silly requirements or rules (like you have to be on 10 hours a day!! ), all we ask is you play fair and have a bit of common sense. Hope to see you in game soon mate. Details on our website @ http://www.bsbnetwork.com my steam name is bsb_box
  4. Active and recruiting. Play on our PvE server or join in on our coordianted team play (as one big group) on the Musty Eu gaming servers.

  12. Just a warning folks that I happen to know for a fact that at least two of these guys' founding members have previously been Battleeye banned for hacking (one of which on two separate occasions), so be very cautious.
  13. Still open for players to join. We play on our own Epoch server and also active on the Moustache Gaming Cherno Epoch servers. Visit website for details.
  14. Not actually sure if this is the right board for this but I'm sure one of the lads will kindly move it if there's a better home for it. Anyway, just thought I'd start to produce some of the map updates I've made over the last few months and have had running on our various servers for any other server admins that may wish to run them and save them selves time and effort messing about with editors and what not. Its my way of saying "thanks" for all the freebies I've received in the form of scripts, packs, updates help and support from the community. I have a whole series of these map updates I am working through to package for released on this thread (so come back soon and check out the other available updates!). The first of these are listed below. More pics will also be published soon too! Both of the of the first two map updates below are presently running on our Public PvE Epoch server (so fully work with Epoch) and you can see/sample them first hand by visiting our server, details in my sig. These are all free to use and distribute, I'd just like to request that files arent edited to remove BSB remove from the credits. Cheers BSB Improved Chernarus_v2 (With prefab bare-bone base structures): A general map update that adds various additional buildings scattered nicely around Chernarus. Its a great quick map add-on to instantly update your Chernarus map to a improved and custom looking map, with better loot spawns and more points of interest to visit. It gives an instant look of an edited map and doesn't affect FPS performance. It Includes;- US Military base at the NE Airfield UN military camp & aid station & NW Airfield Regional military camp at Balota Urban improvements in Cherno, Electro, Balota, Kamenka, Berezhino, Tulga, Zelenagorsk etc. Several barracks added and scattered about military areas. Nothing OP and they are always spread around and not grouped together. Various military checkpoints & roadblocks scattered accross the map Several hidden survivor prefab camps ready to be improved and fortified Perimeter fence around Klen for additional security (or alternatively to conceal bandits as they sneak up/ambush!) Much more This is stable and the final release and will not be improved or modified any further as it's an early version of my work. It's fully playable and shouldn't give many/any problems. Pictures coming soon! File includes installation instructions (readme file) Download here: http://files.enjin.com/59994/bsbdayz_files/bsb_chernarusplus.zip BSB Maze v2.1 This adds a massive player maze just to the west of the NW Airfield. It's got plenty of loot and hidden gear within it's walls. Offers lots of fun but can be very dangerous! Brilliant map update ideally suited for PvP tournaments and other fun events but still fun to add to maps for general exploration. This map update is still being developed so more improvements are coming to this very soon! Pictures will be added shortly too! File includes installation instructions (readme file) Download here: http://files.enjin.com/59994/bsbdayz_files/bsb_maze.zip Feedback, suggestions, requests etc all welcome via our forum @ http://www.bsbnetwork.com
  15. Cheers man, as I say its just a thanks for all teh freebies I have had form other good admins and scripters, so it's only fair. There's many more to come and I will even consider making map updates for requests if I get the time.

    Looking for a serious group.

You're welcome to check out our community, we have several little groups active on our Epoch server. The server is running a very challenging config with a few balanced map additions, AI (not all over the map just common enough for you to be watching your six), balanced trader prices (good stuff costs money - no quick gear ups!), 200+ dynamic vehicle s(none of the military grade armed vehicles spawn dynamically), lots of mixed groups, some clan members, some not. Anyway more details at our community website @ http://www.bsbnetwork.com
