    Factions and Territory

First of all I’d like to welcome you to the forum (or at least your first post). This is a fantastic post obviously well thought out. On the whole I agree that factions and territory should be considered more seriously and developed much more in SA, but I do find some of your ideas difficult to envision working, especially with the amount of variables that would need to be considered. That’s not to say I’m not excited at the prospect of some of your ideas! I like this idea in principal but I find it hard to imagine how it would work and how it would affect other players in the server on it’s own (I know you are trying to apply it along with the other ideas in your post). Especially when you consider that the Zombies only spawn in towns at the moment. So if this remains the case your idea and logic would presume that players would try and secure parts of cities, towns or small villages as strongholds. Surely it would only be a matter of time on most servers before most towns and cities wouldn’t be spawnining many zombies actually inside them? After a short time possibly yes they would spawn around the towns/cities , but this would only make the game eaiser for other players and NOT the factions themselves. If for instance a faction of around 12 players clear and secure an area, say a good chunk of Kemenka , then all retire for the night and a couple of other players come on and find the place zombie free, would they be able to loot? Would a note on the map (if they have one) denote that this area belongs to Faction X? Wouldn’t that just make it easier for other players to loot gear that a faction fought hard for? How could they defend their loot? It just seems to me that this might severely disadvantage those playing in a faction and encourage solo play. I’ve read a number of good suggestions on “sleep” time, i.e. the times you log out and leaving your character in the game world. Good suggestions I’ve heard are having affects on a players stats such as food/water levels and even their senses based on where a player left their character. To me this kind of makes sense and opens up more areas for survival in the game, making players conscious of the environment more and encouraging them to get better survival kit, therefore making survival more than just gun and food looting. I must admit I do like the idea of other players being able to stumble upon your character when he’s holed up (sleeping) but I’m not sure how practical it would be and I feel it would just become irritating after a while when it would inevitably be abused. Especially when you consider again it would be factions that would take the biggest hit with such a system when combined with the above idea as they would be more easilyf ound on a map – i.e. there’d be areas of the map with either no zombies spawning or they would be spawning in a pattern AROUND a certain area of the map. Even for solo players on a map the size of Chernarus, players could and would easily stumble upon a players “bed” and 9/10 time would just kill them or rob them. No for me there would need to be a better balance to this system before it would be considered workable. See now you are talking, this enables factions to defend their selves, particularly now as you have given them a way to easily kill their opponents by just waiting till they are asleep/offline! Crafting should feature in the game to some extent, and naturally larger groups should have more resources and “bigger” craftable items and possibilities. However I find my self wondering what about those who don’t want to be in a faction? How long before most servers have large areas of the map inaccessible to them because of factions? How would servers regulate loot? It seems this may well just force players to be in factions just to get a chance at limited loot items. Also what happens when a server goes down or reboots? All that hard work gone? I don’t know seems a bit twitchy for it to work just yet. I tend to feel that theres not enough balance to your ideas just yet. I really do like the ideas of factions in the game and even secure territories, just think it needs to be really well thought out and it needs to be finely balanced offering equal advantages and disadvantages for those who do and don’t wish to play within factions.
  2. I'd just say yes, ARMA 2 is a great game but even the community of that will reduce come the release of ARMA 3 early next year. I'd say just wait Day Z SA will be quite cheap anyway as EVERYONE gets the reduced version in it's alpha state (Minecraft model) and I'd wager you won't even look at ARMA 2 and the Day Z mod again once it's released. If I'm wrong and for some reason Day Z mod does go on to be a serious alternative to Stand Alone you can always buy ARMA 2 later (or get it in some kind of collectors pack with ARMA 3), chances are it will be cheaper after Stand Alone's release anyway because no one will be buying it again! Common sense should prevail here!
  3. Id leave it till stand alone Alpha is released, talk is it's going to be the 21st December.

    Looking for a TEAM!

Hi, you are welcome to check us out at The BSB Network. We're a social gaming community that is dedicated to fair and fun gaming. First and foremost we're just a simple, open community for fair and friendly social gamers. We have around 1600 registered gamers, 400+ of which are Day Z gamers. The community is mostly adult gamers over the age of 20 (well over in most cases!) but there are no age, time or skill requirements - all we ask is you play fair and have a bit of common sense about you! Our members are based all over the world and are on at all times of the day and night, but all speak English and most are based in the UK and Mainland Europe with some in the US too. We aim to accommodate gamers of all levels; from those who jkust wish for the occasional hook up with trustworthy decent people, to gamers looking for dedicated groups or clan gaming with regular and organised tactics. We host various ad-hoc groups teams and clans as well as our own internal clan that has it’s members organised into several Fire Teams We also have our own free public Teamspeak 3 Server so our community can communicate and coordinate their scavenges and raids. We've been gaming as a community since 2002, so we're not some ad-hoc fly by night clan that's been quickly set up and will be gone in the blink of an eye! There is no obligation to join our clan or any of our affiliated clans/groups to take part in our sessions though, everyone is free to just turn up and get involved with some games. If you're interested then please take the time check out or website @ http://www.bsbnetwork.com and try to hop on our Teamspeak 3 server and say "hi!". Stand Alone Title

Ok I'm not going to take credit for this as I seen someone else mention it on another thread earlier this month, but what is Day Z stand alone going to be called? Will they just stick with Day Z and put up with the inevitible confusion from us idiots on the interywebs getting mixed up between Day Z the mod and Day Z the game? Maybe they will just call it Day Z Standalone? Or maybe they will they come up with an eloborate new title? Who knows!? However I personally think it would be a nice touch and a great way to reward and invovle us, the dedicated minons who have helped develop this gamem if we had some input on the title... So lets just discuss and throw a couple of ideas around here based on the scenario of the devs going down the road of a new title - well an updated subtitle; "Day Z: Your Suggestion" . So here we go, lets here some of your suggestions for the title/subtitle for stand alone release; Here's my ideas to get the ball rolling (I'm just thinking off the top of my head BTW for the moment! Day Z: Stand Alone (as in standing alone! not very original I know lol) Day Z: ChernaruZ Day Z: Crux (as in the center/middle/core of the infection?) Day Z: Plus Day Z: Bean WarZ Day Z: Bandits Day Z: Aftermath Day Z: Survival Day Z: Red Dawn (as a cheeky nod towards George Romeros Dawn of the dead and the "Red" former Soviet state) Day Z: Desperation Day Z: BiterZ Day Z: Zero (as in Case 0, where the infection started) Day "Z"ero (Modified version of above) Day Z: Virus I'm sure there's more imaginative people out there than me, so what are your ideas?

Have you actually had a dream of DayZ?

I havent had a dream about Day Z as such, but for the last 12 years or so I've had re-occurring dreams about zombies. Most of the time they are the same "story" that is continued over a series of several dreams. It's hard to believe but it's genuinely true. A few years back i even thought about documenting them all and it's often been a on going joke for my mates any myself about them. My partner doesnt see the fun side as much though when I wake up shouting in the middle of the night lol

    Fuel and Cars

Yes it has been discussed before (to death almost) but that doesn't detract from it being a good point, and one I believe has been noted by the developers. The fact is the mod has it arse round - there's loads of fuel but few vehicles! Surely it makes more sense to have vehicles more common (to be honest most of them are crap anyway and offer very little advantage) and have fuel a bit harder to source. To me it makes more sense to have players need syphoning kits as resources in addition to jerry cans and have players rely on scavenging wrecks or rarer spawnable cans fuel in industrial buildings. Syphoning the fuel should be a time consuming business to increase the risk of it and make players more vulnerable when doing it. As far as Gas stations are concerned, maybe have a specialist syphoning drilling kit that's needed and make gas supplies limited for set periods of time in the servers life/cycle to prevent large groups of vehicles constantly being able to refuel at these bottomless pits of fuel.
